Hannah L. Browning
Hannah L. Browning, age 18, of Rock Cave, WV died Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Eden, WV. She was born September 18, 1989 in Elkins, WV, a daughter of I.B. Browning, Jr. of Morgantown, WV and Ulrika Maria Flor Browning of Rock Cave. In addition to her parents she is survived by one sister, Rachel A. Browning of Rock Cave and maternal grandparents, Wolfgang and Maria Flor of Rock Cave. Hannah was a student at Buckhannon-Upshur High School and was taking Private Spiritual Lessons. Graveside Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Canaan Church Cemetery at Canaan, WV with the Rev. Ray Ogden officiating. Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Black, Jr.
Robert W. Black, Jr., age 41, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, March 31, 2008 in Upshur Co of natural causes. He was born December 14, 1966 a son of Robert W. and Eula Faye Burr Black of French Creek, WV. In addition to his parents Mr. Black is survived by two brothers Samuel L. Black of Buckhannon, Lawrence A. Burr of Crawford, WV; three nephews, Christopher and Cody Burr both of Crawford and Joshua Black of Buckhannon; one niece, Clarissa Burr of Crawford; paternal grandmother, Daisy Black of Buckhannon; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ray Black and maternal grandparents, Edward and Mable Burr. Mr. Black was a Methodist by faith and had a strong belief in God. He was previously a volunteer EMT and firefighter. He was active in his church, loved hunting, the outdoors and children. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. Friends will be received Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James M. 'Chub' Beer
James M. 'Chub' Beer, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at his home. He was born May 6, 1918 in Sago, WV, a son of the late Kenner and Nettie M. Grubb Beer. On December 10, 1942 he married Susan Katherine Shahan Beer who preceded him in death on July 8, 2007. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Maxell Lee Beer and one sister, Elizabeth Beer. He is survived by two sons, James M. Beer, II and wife Barbara of Morgantown, WV and Stephen K. Beer of Morgantown; two step granddaughters, Autumn McDaniel of Morgantown and Amber Nearranzio of Latrobe, PA and four step great-grandchildren. Mr. Beer was a retired manager for Columbia Gas, a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, also a member of the Masonic Lodge in PA. He served with the Army Air Force during WW II and with the 322nd Bombardier Group. He was a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Disabled Veterans and the Buckhannon Country Club. Friends will be received Sunday, April 27, 2008 from 5-7 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 & # 36 will conduct Military Honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jack D. Buckner
Jack D. Buckner, age 81, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at his home. He was born December 5, 1926 in Cincinnati, OH, a son of the late Asa Jack Buckner and Alta Mildred Hiser Buckner Mullins. On November 18, 1967 he married Marie Walls who survives. Also surviving are one son, Ben Buckner of Irvine, CA; one daughter, Teresa Cutright and husband Alvin of French Creek, WV; two grandsons, Ethan and Owen Cutright both of French Creek; one granddaughter, Julia Cutright of French Creek; two step sisters, Rose Livesay of Englewood, OH and Lou Mullins of Mt. Vernon, KY; hunting and fishing buddy, Bob Retterbush of Piqua, OH, who kept him out of trouble and several close cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepfather, Jim Mullins. Mr. Buckner was a Postal Supervisor for US Postal Service and served in the US Navy during WW II & Korean Conflict. He loved, horse racing, poker, fishing, tennis and was an artist. Friends will be received Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua, OH. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg, P.O. Box 1680, Clarksburg, WV 26302. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Shelia K. Byrd
Shelia K. Byrd, age 43, of Volga, WV the Hodgesville Community died Friday, May 2, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. She was born January 10, 1965 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of Charles G. and Phyllis Beam Wamsley of Buckhannon. On August 17, 1982 she married David Byrd who survives. Also surviving are one brother, Randy Wamsley and wife Luz of Winston-Salem, NC; several aunts, uncles, cousins and special Uncle Bob Tenney; father and mother in law, Don and Barbara Byrd of Hodgesville; sisters in law, Kimberly Gifford and husband Russ of Hodgesville and Phyllis Bailey of Hodgesville; a niece, Jennifer Ervin and husband Scott of Hodgesville; two nephews, Cameron Ervin and Chad Gifford both of Hodgesville and a special family and their children Ron and Amy Pearson of Buckhannon. Shelia was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Ray Wamsley. Shelia was a Child Care Giver for children for 26 years, a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church, Sunday School Teacher for elementary children. She loved children and was a devoted and loving wife. Friends will be received Monday, May 5, 2008 from 2-4 PM at the Sand Run Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 4 PM at the Sand Run Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Butcher and the Rev. Ralph Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Billy Richard Bennett
Billy Richard Bennett, age 69, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born July 27, 1938 in Hamilton, WV, a son of the late Herbert and Georgia Virginia Teets Bennett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Athol Bennett. On August 12, 1961 he married Vera Mae Smarr who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Billy Richard Bennett, Jr. and wife Teresa of Martinsburg, WV, Jeffrey T. Bennett and wife Misty of Buckhannon and Bradley S. Bennett and wife Jennifer of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Ryan Bennett of Martinsburg and Brandon and Preston Bennett of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Chelsey Bennett of Martinsburg, Alexa Bennett and Hanna McClung of Buckhannon; one brother, Herbert Paul Bennett of Boulder, WV; two sisters, Faye Skidmore of Buckhannon and Beatrice Propst and husband Everett of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bennett was a retired Supervisor for Moore Business Forms. He was a member of Buckhannon Moose Lodge # 598 and the National Rifle Association. He served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved staying busy and being with his family. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Tuesday May 13, 2008 from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. William C. Eskew, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Mt. Hebron Cemetery at Boulder, WV. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the B-U Athletic Boosters. Mary Barbara Burr
Mary Barbara Burr, age 71, of Adrian, WV died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in Culpeper Regional Hospital in Culpeper, VA. She was born October 10, 1936 in Piccadilly Newfoundland, Canada, a daughter of the late Matthew and Emma Kendall Flynn. On October 8, 2006 she was preceded in death by her husband Martin Burr. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mattie and Gerard Flynn and one sister, Marie Flynn. She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Cox and husband Jim of Culpeper, VA; two sons, Richard Burr and wife Laura of Summerville, SC and James Burr and wife Sunnie of Warrenton, VA; four granddaughters, Pamela Burr, Sarah Burr, Kendall Cox and Delanie Cox; three grandsons, Daniel Burr, Brady Burr and Casey Burr; four brothers, Ronnie Flynn of Newfoundland, Patrick Flynn of Newfoundland, Lonnie Flynn of Alberta, Canada and Thomas Flynn of Newfoundland; four sisters, Rona Hall of Newfoundland, Theresa St. Croix of Newfoundland, Leona Flynn of Newfoundland and Orella Ciampa of Dayton, OH and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Burr was a homemaker, a military wife and a Catholic. Friends will be received Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A memorial prayer service will be held 10 AM Monday at the funeral home with Father Ron Nikodem as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Laurel Fork Church Cemetery at French Creek, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Clinton Dowell
Richard Clinton Dowell, age 59, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at his home. He was born May 17, 1956 in Hackers Creek, WV, a son of the late Page and Lillian Queen Dowell. On January 3, 1987 he married Rebecca Sue Bragg, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Brenda Sue McCauley and husband William of NC and Patsy Cesaro and husband Dustin of Buckhannon; one grandson, Richard Dakota McCauley of NC; one granddaughter, Camilla Faith Snyder of NC; two brothers, Tom Dowell and wife Sheila and Jack Dowell all of Buckhannon; two sisters, Patty Dowell of NV and Cathy Ours and husband John of Ellamore, WV and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Richard Clinton Dowell, Jr.; one brother, William Dowell and one sister, Sylvia Jean Dowell. Mr. Dowell was the owner of C&G Taxi in Buckhannon and a member of the Eagles. As per his request, Mr. Dowell will be cremated. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ethelean M. Bennett
Ethelean M. Bennett, age 95, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon. She was born December 10, 1912 in Adrian, WV, a daughter of the late Charles and Hattie Dell Thompson Smith. On July 9, 1932 she married Roy S Bennett who preceded her in death on February 10, 1994. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Smith; one brother, Willard Smith and four sisters, Madelean Phillips, Paulean Rowan, Bethelean Stonebreaker and Eilean Wealch. She is survived by one son, Roy J. Bennett and wife Joy J. of Buckhannon; one daughter, Eva Lee Smith and husband Dennis of Weston, WV; four granddaughters, Pauletta Courtney of Clarksburg, WV, Susan Miller and husband Barry of Buckhannon, Cathy Bennett and husband Steve Goff of Buckhannon and Robin Lewis and husband Lenny of Romney, WV; four grandsons, Bruce Bennett and wife Jackie of Buckhannon, Cort Bennett and wife June of Raleigh, NC, Adam Bennett and wife Debbie of McKinney, TX and Tate Bennett and wife Gia of Madisonville, KY; three sisters, Emilean Quick of Buckhannon, Roselean Humphrey of Philippi, WV and Mabelean Osburn of Stonewood, WV; a granddaughter in law, Cathy Smith of Clarksburg, WV; eighteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bennett was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God in Buckhannon. She was also a member of the Floral Rebekah Lodge # 183 and A.A.R.P. and was a dedicated member of her church spending many hours in its various activities. She loved her family. Friends will be received Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tristan Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Phillip W. Barbe
Phillip W. Barbe, age 63, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, July 18, 2008 at his home under the Care of Peoples Hospice. He was born November 21, 1944 in Mill Creek, WV, a son of the late Woodford Barbe and Rhea Haddix Wasmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Marie Underwood. He is survived by four sisters, Jill Bentley and husband Ron of Buckhannon, Jackie Bennett and husband Don of Lost Creek, WV, Dee Suan and husband Edsel of Amargrosa Valley, NV and Janet Kirk and husband Adrian of Tallmadge, OH; two brothers Coy Barbe and wife Linda of Diana, WV and Chris Wasmer of Carthage, TN; several nieces and nephews and all his co-workers at Triad Builders of King, NC. Mr. Barbe was a carpenter and a Baptist by faith. Friends will be received Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Cowgar Cemetery at Monterville, WV. Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Larry C. Bundy
Larry C. Bundy, age 39, of Tallmansville, WV died Monday, July 21, 2008 at his home. He was born December 19, 1968 in Elizabeth City, NC, a son of Luther C. and Eva Lee Byrum Bundy both of Elizabeth City. On May 21, 1989 he married Jeannie B. Butt who survives. In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by two sons, Blake and Brad Bundy both of Tallmansville; extended children, Jennifer Floyd of Summersville, SC and Austin Yates of South Mills, NC; two sisters, Jeannie Twiford of Elizabeth City and Ruth Cheeks of Hertford, NC and two brothers, Luke Bundy of Elizabeth City and Leslie Bundy of South Mills. Larry was an autoworker for Ford Motor Company. Mr. Bundy will be cremated and there will be a private family service. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Christopher ONeill Boyles
Christopher ONeill Boyles, son of Stanley and Dolores Boyles, departed this life on Sunday, November 2, 2008 in his home. Along with his parents, Christophers life is celebrated by grandmothers Ruth Boyles of French Creek, WV and Berdine Potts of Rock Cave, WV; fiance, Charliena Helmick of Buckhannon; brother David and wife Christina of Buckhannon; sister, Michelle Boyles and Derek Davidson of Rock Cave; nephew, David Aaron Boyles of Buckhannon; nieces, Sydney and Casey Hoover both of Rock Cave and Shanna Boyles of Buckhannon; nephews, Cameron Boyles of Rock Cave and Grayson Boyles of Buckhannon; uncle John Boyles of PA, aunt Anne Robinson, uncle Jim Boyles, uncle Kenneth Boyles, and Nancy Merrifield of WV, uncle Ronald Boyles of VA, uncle Gary Potts and uncle Jim Potts of WV and spouses; numerous cousins, loved ones and friends. Christopher was preceded in death by grandfathers, Ford Boyles and James Potts. Christopher was a Christian by faith and enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but his fondest times were with his nieces and nephews whom referred to him as Uncle yaya. Christopher will be missed by all who knew him and the lives he touched, his heart was golden and a piece of it will be in all of us from now till eternity. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, November 5, 2008 from 4-9 PM at the New Horizons Church. Memorial services will be held at a later date with family and close friends.
