Robert James 'Jim' Dowell, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born November 28, 1924 in Buckhannon, a son of the late William Lewis and Bessie Jane Corathers Dowell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rhonda Gail Shipley; three brothers, Myers, Page and Keith Dowell and two sisters, Nora Smith and Dorothy Sowder. Mr. Dowell is survived by his wife, Evelyn Simmons Dowell of Buckhannon; two daughters, Barbara Ann Shipley and husband Randal and Camella L. Crites and husband Tom, all of Buckhannon; two sons, James E. Dowell and wife Louise of Buckhannon and Roger Alan Dowell and wife Candace of Summerville, SC; two step daughters, Roxanne Harlow and family of Buckhannon and Vicky Newlon and family of Cleveland, OH; three step sons, Bob Simmons and family of Buckhannon, Donnie Simmons and family of Weston, WV and Steve Simmons and family of Cleveland; two granddaughters, Melissa Dowell of Pickens, SC and Katrina Dendy and three great grandchildren of Greenville, SC; two grandsons, Travis Shipley and Gerald Zirkle, wife Rena and great grandson, Weldon, all of Buckhannon; two step granddaughters, Jennifer Cutright and husband Caleb of Bridgeport, WV and Jillana Chenoweth and girls of Jane Lew, WV; three step grandsons, Chuck Nolan and family of Buckhannon, Ronnie Nolan, wife Gwen and family of Stanley, NC and Scott Chenoweth of Shinnston, WV; a brother, Howard Jonathan Dowell of Buckhannon; a sister, Katherine Goldsmith and husband Jack of Greenwood, WV; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Dowell of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. He was a carpenter and a Methodist by faith. Friends will be received from 4-8 PM, Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. William C. Eskew, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Reger Chapel UM Church Cemetery on Brushy Fork. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters # 5 and #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Naomi Peg DeBarr
Naomi Peg DeBarr, age 74, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, March 01, 2010 at her home. She was born April 11, 1935 in Gilmer County, WV, a daughter of the late Florist and Margie Adams Woofter. On August 17, 1950 she married Ronald DeBarr who preceded her in death on June 30, 1982. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Willie and Thurman Woofter and one sister, Nellie Hornbeck. She is survived by a companion, Cleston Mills of Buckhannon; two daughters, Diana Tenney and friend Donald Simons and Carol Waybright and husband Sturl all of Buckhannon; one grandson, Douglas Tenney and wife Missy of Ellamore, WV; one granddaughter, Stacy Marteney and husband John of Buckhannon; step grandson, Scott Simons of Buckhannon; five great-granddaughters, Sarah Vance and Julia Tenney both of Ellamore, WV, Rachel, Samantha and Amanda Marteney all of Buckhannon; one brother, Herman Woofter of Niles, OH; three sisters, Norma DeBarr of West Liberty, WV, Reta Jackson of Buckhannon and Pansy Johnson of Nashville, IN and her dog, Peggy Sue. Mrs. DeBarr was a cook for the Buckhannon Country Club. She was a member of the Buckhannon Moose Lodge # 598 Ladies Aux. and the BPOE # 1736. Friends will be received Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Norma Alice Darnall
Norma Alice Darnall, age 88, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at her home. She was born August 14, 1921 in Lawrence, PA, a daughter of the late H.I. and Madge Simons Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert O. Darnall; her life companion, William Bill Douglas and one daughter, Roberta Darnall. She is survived by two sons, Dale Gene Darnall of Buckhannon and Russell Wayne Darnall of Johns Island, SC; two granddaughters, Alexis Williams of Baltimore, MD and Shawna Darnall of Greenville, SC; one grandson, Daniel Darnall of Las Vegas, NV and one great granddaughter, Daphne Williams of Baltimore. Mrs. Darnall worked as an accountant in the Athletic Department of WVWC. Friends will be received Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 6-7:30 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Shreve officiating. Burial will follow in the French Creek Presbyterian Cemetery at French Creek, WV. Eulah L. Dean
Eulah L. Dean, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV the Deanville Community died Monday, July 12, 2010 at Holbrook's Nursing Home. She was born November 13, 1916 in Harding, WV a daughter of the late Gordon and Nora Elmore Sturm. On May 5, 1934 she married John David Dean who preceded her in death on January 11, 1977. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, John David Dean and eleven brothers and sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Vonnie Poling and husband Bob of Buckhannon; one son, John C. Dean and wife Sue of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Holt Poling and wife Mary Alice and J.D. Poling all of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Melinda Crislip and husband Anthony and Amy Poling DeBarr all of Buckhannon; four great-grandsons, Seth Poling, Robert Poling, John David Dalton Crislip and Ean DeBarr all of Buckhannon; two great-granddaughters, Brittany Poling and Jordan Raye Crislip both of Buckhannon and one sister, Maxine Calain and husband Fred of Bridgeport, WV. Mrs. Dean was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mt. Herman United Brethren Church, the Mt. Herman Ladies Aid Society, Farm Women's Club, Eastern Star Chapter # 18 and the Buckhannon Senior Citizen Center where she was also a cook. Friends will be received Wednesday, July 14, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Herman Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made In Memory Of Eulah L. Dean to the Mt. Louise G. Daugherty
Louise G. Daugherty, age 100, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Holbrook's Nursing Home. She was born July 1, 1910 in Yancyville, NC a daughter of the late John Nelson and Haddie Burgon Daugherty. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Tom and Ken Daugherty and six sisters, Hazel Weatherford, Mary McClindon, Marie Wallace, Annie Daugherty, Daisy Daugherty and Martha McCurdy. Surviving is a nephew, Eugene Weatherford of Washington, DC. Louise was a Christian by faith. Graveside services will be held 10 AM Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Heavner Cemetery with the Rev. Gail Harris-Berry officiating. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Lee Warner Hyre Dye
Mrs. Betty Lee Warner Hyre Dye passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday October 6, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born May 18, 1931 in Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Ray Sr. and Irene Smith Warner. On September 2, 1955 she married John R. Hyre who preceded her in death on November 17, 1986. Betty remarried June 15, 1999 to Glenn T. Dye. Betty graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1949 and was the Valedictorian of the Tennerton Branch. She made a career as a lifetime restaurant owner. In 1960 she and John opened the Stardust Drive-in which they operated until 1979. In 1983 they decided to open Western Steer Family Steakhouse which later changed to Lone Steer. She was the proud recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year award for 2007. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, tending a variety of flowers, and bird watching. She also enjoyed RV camping and traveling, and loved working puzzles. Surviving are spouse Glenn T. Dye of Buckhannon, and children John R. Hyre, Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio, Michael Hyre of Buckhannon, Deborah Brannaka of Indianapolis, Ind., Kelly Hyre of Buckhannon; 4 brothers, James G. Warner, Edward E. Warner, and Leroy A. Warner of Buckhannon and William T. Warner of Alta Vista, Virginia; 5 grandchildren, Whitney R. Hyre, Lucas J. Hyre, and Brock A. Hyre of Buckhannon and Aaron M. Brannaka and Hannah N. Brannaka of Indianapolis; and great grandson Gavin A. Brannaka. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Virginia Rhodes and Mary Katherine Tenney and 1 brother Albert Ray Warner, Jr.. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Friday October 8, 2010 from 5-9 PM. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Lowther. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Nuzum Demastes
Mary Nuzum Demastes, age 41, of Rock Cave, WV died Monday, October 18, 2010 at her home under the care of Mountain Hospice. She was born February 20, 1969 in Weston, WV, a daughter of the late Elsworth and Mary Louise Flowers Nuzum. She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Demastes; one daughter, Deseray Boone of Harrisville, WV; one grandson, Hunter Boone of Harrisville; eight brothers, Elsworth Nuzum, Jr. of Buckhannon, Richard Nuzum of Princewick, WV; Allen Nuzum of Hibbing, MN, Michael Nuzum of Buckhannon, Thomas Nuzum of Elkins, WV, James Milford of Fairmont, WV, Timothy Nuzum of Adrian, WV and Jonathan Nuzum of Oakland, MD five sisters, Joyce Nuzum of Clarksburg, WV, Marlene Jeffries and Carolyn Sipe both of Buckhannon, Sherry Friend of Rock Cave and Leah Nuzum. Mary was a Christian by faith. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 10 AM until 11 AM the funeral hour with Pastor David Jesse officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Rock Cave, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elnora Marie Davis
Elnora Marie Davis, age 68, of Ellamore, WV died Friday, October 22, 2010 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV. She was born October 5, 1942 in Randolph County, WV, a daughter of the late Ralph and Ida Maple McCauley Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Davis and one sister, Angalion Davis. She is survived by one brother, Ralph J. Davis and wife Lucy of French Creek, WV; one sister, Linda Carpenter and husband Lonzo of Belington, WV and several nieces and nephews. Elnora was a seamstress for Reidbord Brothers and a member of the Gertrude Chapel United Methodist Church. Friends will be received Monday, October 25, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. She will Lie in State from 10-11 AM the funeral hour on Tuesday at Gertrude Chapel with the Rev. Harold Langevin and the Rev. Jim Arbogast officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Cemetery at Talbott, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Madalene Anita DeGarmo
Madalene Anita DeGarmo, age 81, of Buckhannon, WV passed away peacefully at her home with her son, John by her side while under the care of St. Josephs Hospice. She was born April 28, 1929 in Landisburg, Fayette County, WV, a daughter of the late Roe M. and Laura Iris Sullivan Nutter. On December 25, 1947 she married Herbert E. DeGarmo who preceded her in death on December 27, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Michael Mike DeGarmo, Sr. and two sisters, Rose Imogene Carte and Nellie Nutter. Anita is survived by five daughters, Karen Sue Boyles and husband Ken of Buckhannon, Catherine Marie Simons of Matthews, NC, Barbara Dianne Alherimi and husband Naim David of Navarre, FL, Sharon Yvonne Walia of Antioch, CA and Sandra Lynn Williams and husband Ron of Buckhannon; four sons, James Lee DeGarmo of Amissiville, VA, Edward Francis DeGarmo and wife Carla of Gassaway, WV, John A. DeGarmo of Buckhannon and Franklin Keith Skip DeGarmo of Atlanta, GA; twenty three grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; six sisters, Betty Adams of New Brighton, PA, Elaine Bailey and husband Harold of Buckhannon, Ruth Fink of Monaca, PA, Shirley Meehan and husband Jim of Ambridge, PA, Dale Gallentine and husband Jim of Dumfries, VA and Linda Jo Barnhart and husband Dan of Gainesville, VA and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Buckhannon and devoted much of her time to Christian reading. She was a full time homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday, January 7, 2011 from 6 to 9 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 PM at the church with Bishop Cecil Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Canaan Church Cemetery in Canaan WV. Poling-St.

Charles David Dolin
Charles David Dolin, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, January 7, 2011 at his home under the care of Mt. Hospice. He was born July 23, 1932 in Seth, WV, a son of the late Lorn and Pearl Beheler Dolin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Dolin. He is survived by a niece, Wilda M. Dolin Gregory of Buckhannon; two brothers, Paul Dolin of Weirton, WV and John Dolin of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Dolin was a steel worker and a Christian by faith. He served in the US Air Force. A special thanks to Good Samaritan in Belington, WV and Mt. Hospice and to the Pastor Bryan Headley. Friends will be received Monday, January 10, 2011 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Burial will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV. The WV National Cemetery will provide Military Honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard L. Douglas
Richard Lee Douglas, Long-time Buckhannon native and resident passed away on January 27, 2011, at Otterbein Retirement Community, Lebanon, Ohio. Cause was complications from colon cancer. He was 67. Mr. Douglas was born July 25, 1943, a son of the late Wilson and Ruth Harper Douglas. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one older brother Wilson Douglas Jr. He was a 1961 graduate of Buckhannon High School and graduated in 1973 from West Virginia University. Richard worked as a teacher in Florida and West Virginia and for 30 years as an aide at Weston State Hospital, from where he retired. He was a passionate history buff (especially the Civil War), traveler, lover of literature and classical music, community theater performer and volunteer in children's reading programs. Richard was the nephew of well-known native West Virginian artist Charley Harper, whose son, Brett, brought him to Ohio in April 2010 after initial cancer surgery. At that time he required constant care. However, his heart always remained a Mountaineer with his friends in Buckhannon and surrounding area. Cousin Brett said, He was 10 years older. I always looked up to him. He was a wonderful storyteller and loved an audience. He had a kind heart and instinctively took the side of the underdog. Wish Id seen Richard play Scrooge in your local Christmas performance several years ago! Memorials may be sent to organizations of your choosing. Visitation will be at Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon at 10 am Friday, February 4, 2011, with the funeral service immediately following at 11 am with Pastor Vincent Wine officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Cave Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

William Bruce Davis
William Bruce Davis, age 80, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday March 13, 2011 at his home. He was born August 24, 1930 in Mt. Clare, WV a son of the late John Norman and Nina Belle Koch Davis. On July 26, 1958 he married Helen L. Lattea who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Bruce Allen Davis of Weston, WV and William Jeffery Davis of Buckhannon; two daughters, Connie Louise Mick of VA and Patricia Ann Tetrick of Buckhannon; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Mr. Davis served in the US Army, worked for Marples Trucking and was a Member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Poling- St.Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gilbert Anthony Dietrich, Sr.
Gilbert Anthony Dietrich, Sr., age 69, of Beverly, WV died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at his home. He was born May 16, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Albert O. and Marion Thomas Dietrich. On December 17, 1970 he married Thelma Bailey who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Steven Dietrich and wife Rebecca of Cheyenne, WY, Gary Dietrich and wife Janet of Fredericksburg, VA, Timothy Dietrich of Spotsylvania, VA and Gilbert Dietrich, Jr. and wife April of Virginia Beach, VA; three daughters, Michelle Stoneburner and husband David of Montrose, VA, Angela Ford and husband William of Parkville, MD and Tonya Dietrich of Rock Cave, WV; five grandsons, Jacob Dietrich of Fredericksburg, Isaac and Nathan Dietrich both of Virginia Beach, David Stoneburner, Jr., of Leesburg, VA and Cody Stoneburner of VA; twin grandsons, Noah and Nicholas Ford of Parkville; four granddaughters, Carly Dietrich of Fredericksburg, Hannah Dietrich of Virginia Beach, Brittany Stoneburner of VA and MacKenzie Ford of Parkville and six brothers, Robert Dietrich of MD, Norbert Dietrich of PA, Herbert and Wilbert Dietrich of AZ, Hubert Dietrich of Pittsburgh, PA and Philbert Dietrich of Tionesta, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gilbert Anthony Dietrich, Jr.; one sister, Dolly Kress and one brother, Albert B. Dietrich. Mr. Dietrich was a Catholic. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Institute of Mental Health Gift Fund 6001 Executive Boulevard, Room 8104, MSC 9655 Bethesda, MD 20892-9655.
