Sandra Raye Alvis
Sandra Raye Alvis of Spencer, WV went home to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer.
She is survived by one son, Phillip Bryan, three grandchildren, Nikki Bryan, Sonny Raye Bryan and Kayla Bryan. Also, three sisters, Ann Rizzo, Gayle Moats, Vickie Smallwood and two brothers, Richard and Rodney Shirley. Several nieces and nephews, Patricia Talbert, Barbara Lantz, Mary Talbert, also Robert and Roger Lee Talbert.
We will miss her smiling face and the love and courage she showed us.
There to meet her in heaven are her mother and father, brother, baby Landon Lee Talbert and baby Danny Boy Moats.
The family will love and miss her with all of their hearts.

Otis W. Harris
Otis W. Harris, 74, of Weston, passed away March 31, 2008 at home.
He was born November 25, 1933 in Braxton County a son of the late Reed and Dolly Conrad Harris.
He was a heavy equipment operator.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by wife, Peggy Ball Harris in 2001 and granddaughter, Cassidy Harris.
He is survived by companion, Emma Cayton of Weston; sons, David Harris of Washington State, Andrew Harris of Strange Creek and Mike Harris of Ohio; daughters, Karen Harris of Washington State and Sharon Harris of Ohio; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Friends called on April 2, 2008 at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway. At Mr. Harris’ request, there was no funeral service. Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery, Trace Run on April 3, 2008.

Jennings Homer Neff
Jennings Homer Neff, 82, of Birch River, WV died March 31, 2008. He was born on March 18, 1926 in Clay County, WV a son of the late Squire and Alice Nottingham Neff. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Hattie Faye White ; two sons, Carl S. and Robert Lee Neff and daughter, Abigail Hoover.
He was a Baptist by faith and a coal miner for 31 years.
He is survived by two sons, Johnnie Neff of Summersville and Michael Neff of Birch River; five daughters, Alice Rose, Angel Neff and Patricia Ann King all of Birch River, Teresa Lynn Lindsey of Rainelle and Melinda Painter of Morgantown, PA; two brothers, William Brun Neff of Clay and Lacie Neff of Little Birch; and four sisters, Cora Neff of Winona, Lucille Grubb of Terrysville, NC, Mable Blankenship of Summersville, and Nina Neff of Sutton.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Greene-Robertson Funeral Home, Sutton with Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial was in the Cox Cemetery near Birch River, WV.

Loretta B. Patterson
Loretta B. Patterson, 70, of Duck, WV died March 31, 2008 at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway, WV. She was born August 15, 1937 in Little Birch, WV a daughter of the late Carmel and Alice Hall Long. Also preceding her in death was her husband John Dodrill.
Mrs. Patterson was a long time resident of Georgia.
She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Woods of Duck, Phyllis Watson and Nina Hernandez both of Carrolton, GA; one step-son Roger Dodrill of Lorain, OH; one brother James Long of Akron, OH; 3 sisters Carla Long of Riverview, FL; Esta Rose of Marion, OH and Linda Long Kimble of Buckhannon; one step-brother, William Hyre of Warren, OH; 10 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, several step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, several step great great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at noon on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Little Birch Community Cemetery, Little Birch with Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating.

Clifford Boyce Baker
Clifford Boyce Baker, 75, of Burnsville, WV went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Center in Clarksburg after a long illness.
Boyce was born on October 14, 1932 in Pineville, KY a son of the late Clifford and Verona Atkins Baker. He was a retired heavy equipment operator in the Coal Mining and Construction Industry. Boyce was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the American Legion Post #33 in Gassaway, WV. After retirement he worked in the ministry of the Little Kanawha Independent Church at Burnsville.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and one son, Anthony Shullick.
Boyce is survived by his ex-wife, Betty Louise Godbey (Knopp) and their children, Helen Baker of Burnsville, William “Buddy” Baker of Gassaway; and Patricia Baker of Parkersburg.
His ex-wife Emogene Baker and their children Brenda Kayton of Napier and Clifford Bruce Baker of Princeton, WV. His ex-wife, Geraldine Marks (Parsons) and one daughter Kennetta Sampsel of Ohio. Twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Little Kanawha Independent Church at Burnsville, WV with Rev. Ronzel Roberts and Rev. Roger Luzader officiating. Burial followed in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Gem. military Rites were provided by the American Legion Post #33 of Gassaway.

Eunice Jean Morgan
Eunice Jean Morgan, 83, of Heaters, WV formerly of Exchange, WV passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Braxton County Health Care Center after a long illness.
She was born on August 22, 1924 at Exchange, WV a daughter of the late Emerson and Mae Shaver Westfall. Mrs. Morgan was formerly employed as a personal care giver, homemaker and waitress. She was a graduate of Gassaway High School and a member of the Sunrise Church at Flatwoods.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Robert R. Morgan, her parents, daughter, Brenda Belknap and two sons, Jack B. and Larry D. Morgan.
She is survived by daughters, Caroline Wilson of Canton, OH and Shirley Taylor of Heaters. Sons, Robert R. Morgan Jr. of Ohio, Darrell Morgan of Zanesville, OH, Danny Lee Morgan of Sutton, Roger Morgan of Heaters and Mark C. Morgan of Welch, WV. Also surviving is one sister, Macel Dobbins of Chapel, WV and several grand and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods with the Rev. William Griffin officiating.

Ocie Virginia Cummings Davis
Ocie Virginia Cummings Davis, 86, of Gassaway passed away of a long illness on April 1, 2008.
She was born May 29, 1921 in Braxton County a daughter of the late John Lewis and Mellie Stump Cummings.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Alton B. Davis; son, Vance “Pete” Davis and a grandson, Jeffrey Lee Davis; three brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by son, Darius Lee Davis of Gassaway; two daughters, Helen Hacker and husband Wayne of Gassaway and Susan L. Bailey and David Robinson of Little Birch; four grandchildren, Laura Hall and husband Sean, Holly Dennison and husband Jonathan, Matthew Davis and Rebecca Davis; four great grandchildren, Cody Allen Davis, Tara Lynn Davis, James Martin Lee Hall and Gavin Chance Dennison. Also surviving is one sister, Leota McDaniel and husband, Stanley of Tallmadge, OH.
Services were held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Markco Pritt officiating, Burial followed in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

David “Matt” Lee Matthews
David “Matt” Lee Matthews, 72, Clarksburg, WV, passed away unexpectedly at his home at 12:30pm on Thursday, April 3, 2008.
He was born in Bethel Township, PA on September 14, 1935, a son of the late Harry Matthews and Anita (Cook) Matthews.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his loving wife Beverly Ann Matthews, whom he married November 10, 1957.
He is also survived by 1 son, Richard Matthews, and his wife Maj of Clovis, New Mexico, 2 daughters, Jeanie Schatz, and her husband Keith Schatz of Mandan, North Dakota, and Lucinda “Cricket” Patrick and Her husband Joseph Patrick of Sutton, WV. David had eight grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his baby sister Jane Wilds and her husband Fred Wilds of Bethel Township, PA and 2 brothers James Matthews and his wife Carmen and George “Karl” Matthews and his wife Sally. Both brothers are from Logansport, PA.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by 2 sisters Mary Lois Matthews and Lorna Crytzer.
There was no public viewing because David was adamant about donating his body to Science. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, PO Box 12110, Charleston, WV 25302.
SFC David L Matthews retired from the Army after 20 years of proudly serving his Country. David fought in Vietnam and Korea. He worked as a teacher at Bismarck Jr. College in North Dakota and Lenape Tech in Pennsylvania and he was a part time Police Officer in Parks Township, PA. David was also retired from the FBI. He was an active member of the EC church in Clarksburg, WV.
He was always ready to help and had a hug for all he met. He will be missed by all that crossed his path.

Betty Barnett Hovis
Betty Barnett Hovis was born in Braxton County January 14, 1933. She died on April 25, 2008 in Zelienople, PA.
Surviving are her husband, Lee Hovis; sons, Clifford of Michigan, Duane of Ocean Springs, MS and Danny of Zelienople, PA.
Also surviving are one sister, Nettie Groves of Sutton, WV and one brother, Oley H. Barnett of Ocean Springs, MD.
Burial was in Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, PA.
She was a Christian and a member of the Zelienople Church of Nazarene.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
