Ruth Sherrard Ellis
Ruth Ellis, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, October 26, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born January 4, 1920 in Newark, OH. She was the daughter of the late Anna Blanch Wickett and Henry Sherrard. On March 24, 1945 she married Franklin C. Hank Ellis who survives. She was preceded in death by her brother George Sherrard and sister Marjory Squires and son in law Jimmie Green. Surviving are daughters, Cheri Green of Buckhannon, Jeanne Zickefoose and husband Gary of Bridgeport, WV and son Franklin J. Hank Ellis and wife Traci of Bridgeport. Also surviving are grandchildren Clint Green and wife Aimee of Buckhannon, Mindi McGrew and husband Jason of Scott Depot, WV, Jon Green and wife Holly of Buckhannon, Shelli Lantz and husband Eric of Buckhannon, Captain Greg Zickefoose of Little Rock Arkansas, Captain Brian Zickefoose and wife Kim of Lancaster, PA, Frankie D. Ellis and Olivia Anna Ellis of Bridgeport; great-grandchildren, Madison, Delaney and Cheirdyn Green, Jack, Mitch and Rhett McGrew, Ava Lantz, Jimmie Green and Brianna and Meara Zickefoose. Mrs. Ellis was a graduate of Newark High School and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where she met her husband, Frank. She was a member of Alpha Z Delta Sorority, The Wesleyan Emeritus Club, and The First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon. Mrs. Ellis was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, who loved being with her family. Friends will be received Friday, October 30, 2009 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ron McCauley and the Rev. Billee Scott Mick officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Virginia Wesleyan Hank Ellis Athletic Scholarship Fund. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Jean Delone Bakke-Everhart
Betty Everhart passed Nov. 29, 2009, at her daughters home in Buckhannon, West Virginia with her loving family and caregivers at her side. Be ye faithful unto death and I will give you a crown of life Rev. 2:10. Welcoming her in heaven is her beloved husband and life-long companion of 58 years, Marion Bud Everhart. Her warm and loving nature was expressed in all that she did as wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was born Sept. 28, 1925 in Mabel, Minnesota to Norwegian parents, Elizabeth Amdahl Bakke and Julius Bakke, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith which she carried through life. She attended school in Mabel, Minnesota where she expressed her love of music by playing and singing in bands, chorus groups, and trios. She sang with the Sweet Adelines in Corpus Christi, directed church choirs, and was the organist at St. Lukes in Honey Grove, Texas for many years. Betty married Marion Everhart, July 6, 1944 after he received his wings in the Marine Corp. They were blessed with three children, Michaelynn Delone, Steven Bruce, and Benson Darrel. They moved to Lamar County, Texas, in 1979 after Bud's retirement from the Army. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, her parents, only brother, Darrel Bakke, two nieces and one nephew. She leaves behind her daughter, Micki and husband Chuck McGarry; sons, Steven Everhart and wife Linda, Benson Everhart and Holly Richter. Grandchildren: Laura McGarry Spencer and husband Robert; Brandon McGarry; Theresa McGarry Drake and husband Brad; Nicholas McGarry and fiance Amanda; Chad Everhart and wife Teresa; Taymn Everhart; Steven McClain and wife Maggie and David McClain and wife Sarah. Great grandchildren: Corey, Cortney, Taylor, Zachary, and Tristan McGarry; Macey and Marlee Everhart; Autumn and Norah Drake; Madison, Natalie, Jakob, Annalise and Lorelei McClain; Liberty and Sunny. Great-great grandchild: Bethany McGarry. Many nieces & nephews, special nephew James Coffin of Dallas, and sister-in-law Marguerite Everhart of Indiana. Visitation will be at Bright-Holland Funeral Home, Saturday, Dec. 5th, from 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5th, at the funeral home with burial following in Pleasant Hill Cemetery where Betty will be laid to rest alongside her partner in life. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Honey Grove, Texas to be used to support LCMS schools.

Anna Marguerite Hall McHenry
Anna Marguerite Hall McHenry, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, May 19, 2008 at New Hope Room and Board. She was born July 10, 1918 in Bolair, WV, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Luvernia Jane Martin Hall. On August 20, 1946 she married Randolph Herman McHenry who preceded her in death on April 23, 1994. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Daruis Randolph McHenry; two grandsons, Ellis Eugene Kline and Charles Randolph McHenry; one granddaughter, Debra Charlene McHenry; a son in law, Wilbert G. Perry and four brothers and seven sisters. She is survived by three sons, Daniel C. McHenry and wife Kathie of Buckhannon, David W. McHenry and wife Jenny of Cranberry, PA and Mark A. McHenry and wife Connie of Clarksville, TN; four daughters, Norma R. Perry of Craigsville, WV, Charlotte P. Kline and husband Eugene of Clarksville, Wilma J. McHenry of Charleston, WV and Retta Paulette Lowe and husband Jim of Clarksville; special care givers, Joann Marple and Pat Donaldson; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Paul D. Hall of Birch River, WV. Mrs. McHenry was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. In addition to being a homemaker, she also babysat and in her later years she worked as a senior companion. Friends will be received Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 10 AM 12 Noon at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12 Noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Jane Eakin
Margaret Jane Eakin, 90, of Fairport, NY, formerly of Buckhannon, WV, passed on to eternal life December 15, 2009 due to natural causes. She was the daughter of J. Winfred and M. Blyss Carpenter (both deceased) and was born June 5, 1919 in Flatwoods, WV. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ward Eakin, their daughter, Susan Virginia, and Margarets brother, Paul J. Carpenter (USMC-WWII). She was a loving, family oriented wife and mother, and dedicated herself to raising her three sons. Margaret is survived by her sons: Paul and wife (Barbara) of Webster, NY; Thomas and wife (Meghan) of Pittsford, NY; and James and wife (Linda) of Fairport, NY along with grandchildren Andrew, Lauren, and Alex. She also is survived by her sisters, Wilma Bizaro of Cumberland, MD and Lucille Paugh of Goldsboro, NC along with several nieces and nephews. Margarets love for her family will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, December 19 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, WV with Rev. Billie Scott Mick officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery, Buckhannon, WV. Joanne Elbon
Joanne Elbon, age 82, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Holbrook's Nursing Home. She was born May 12, 1928 in Adrian, WV, a daughter of the late Jeff and Anna Lee Smallridge Winemiller. On November 25, 1948 she married Frank Burton Elbon who preceded her in death on January 24, 2003. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Kay Elbon; one brother, Ronald Winemiller and one step son, Burton Elbon. She is survived by one son, Steven Elbon and wife Sherry of Buckhannon; two daughters, Nancy Lee Elbon of Buckhannon and Patty McQuain and husband Jack of Buckhannon; one brother, John Winemiller of Zephyr Hills, FL; two grandsons, Chris Elbon of Bridgeport, WV and Brian McQuain of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Nicki Russell and Mandy McQuain both of Buckhannon; great-grandsons, Nicholas and Nathaniel Russell; great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Emily Russell; one step son, Jim Elbon of Niles, OH and two step daughters, Polly Turner and Carol Grose both of Buckhannon. Mrs. Elbon was a homemaker and a member of the Sago Baptist Church. Friends will be received Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Elbon Cemetery in Sago, WV. Georgia Elliott
Georgia Elliott, age 82, of Dundalk, MD died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Morgantown, WV. She was born October 31, 1927 in Buckhannon, WV, a daughter of the late Walter Harrison and Rosa Gay Waugaman Ostrowske. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John, James, Walter and Harrison Ostrowske and two sisters, Arabella Robertson and Myrtle Barrett. She is survived by two sons, Guy Elliott and wife Virginia of Middle River, MD and Elliott Elliott and wife Nancy of Salisbury, MD; two daughters, Tobi McDonnell and husband James of Bedford, PA and Gail Friend and husband Larry of Morgantown; many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one sister, Nellis Nakvos of Chicago, IL. Mrs. Elliott was an Accountant for Smith Refrigeration. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed playing the guitar and was in the West Virginia Mt. Girls with her sister, also she enjoyed gardening, especially roses. She was a Christian by faith. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Monday, November 1, 2010 from 12 Noon until 2 PM the funeral hour with the Rev. Mitch Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

MARGARET RUTH EISENMAN
Margaret Ruth Eisenman passed away Sunday November 14, 2010 at Inova Alexandria Hospital in Virginia. She has been residing with her daughter Carolyn Bradshaw in Springfield, Virginia. She was born December 21, 1919 in Upshur County, daughter of Judson and Lorain Cochran. She married Paul Eisenman June 15, 1938, who preceded her in death July 15, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Peupson and a brother French Cochran. In addition to her daughter Carolyn, she is survived by six grandchildren; Owen and Doug Bradshaw of VA, Doug Davis of TN, Kim LeCompte of VA, Karen Malcolm of CO and Becky Dawson of MD and five great grandchildren, Sydney and Chayse Bradshaw, Alivya Malcolm, Jordan Dawson and Megan LeCompte. She was a long time member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Buckhannon, WV. At Mrs. Eisenmans request, her body was cremated. A graveside service will be held 11 AM Monday, November 22, 2010 at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon with Dr. Joseph Shreve officiating. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth B. Langbein
Ruth B. Langbein, age 73, of Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, June 2, 2014 at her home in Buckhannon. She was born November 21, 1940 in Doddridge Co., WV, a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Nina E. Nicolson Devericks. On January 26, 1959 she married Ernest Langbein who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Ernest H. Langbein, Jr. and wife Diane of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and Okey F. Langbein and girlfriend Dawn Alderman and Fredrick M. Langbein and fiance Delora Lee all of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Joshua Langbein of Buckhannon and Dale and Benjamin Langbein both of Egg Harbor Township; one granddaughter, Jessica Marie Langbein of Egg Harbor Township and four brothers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers. Mrs. Langbein was a baker at the Western Steer Steakhouse in Weston, WV. She was a member of the Elks Lodge #1736, the Moose Lodge # 598 and the VFW Women's Aux #3663. She loved spending time in her flower garden and watching her birds. Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and dearly loved spending time with her family. The family would like to send a special thanks to Delora Lee and Dawn Alderman for the special care they gave Ruth during her time of need and to all those who took the time to get to know her. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond Lee Embrey
Raymond Lee Embrey age 83, of Buckhannon, WV passed away peacefully, November 30, 2010 in Morgantown, WV. He was born April 11, 1927 in Washington, D.C. the son of the late Lonnie Lee and Nora Elizabeth Smith Embrey. On April 10, 1954 he married Martha Ann Linger who survives. In addition to his wife he was survived by two sons Allan Embrey and wife Angela of Morgantown and Larry Embrey and wife Beth of Scott Depot, WV; one daughter Ann Junkins and husband David of Annapolis, MD. He was the proud grandfather of Tallan and Lake Embrey and Sarah Embrey all of Morgantown, Gavin Junkins and wife Kate and Max Junkins all of Annapolis; and was delighted with the birth of his great-granddaughter Lillian Grace Junkins in September. He is also survived by many wonderful relatives and good friends. Ray graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy as Seaman First Class, receiving a Meritorious Unit Conduct Award while serving in Communications Intelligence and was honorably discharged. He was Proud to serve and was patriotic and a loyal American who loved his country. Mr. Embrey was a Master Mason and Lifetime member of the Naval Lodge #4 A.F.& A.M of the District of Columbia. He worked at Capital and United Airlines in Washington, D. C. After moving to WV in 1966 he worked at Griffin Real Estate and WV Department of Highways. He later became the owner and manager of Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency in Buckhannon from 1968 to 1986. He was proud that he was able to send his three children through college at West Virginia University. He was active in the community by serving as a member of the Moose Heart, Elks, and by supporting the Boy Scouts and Rainbow Girls; Ray admired antique cars and enjoyed showing his 1959 Volkswagen Beetle in car shows throughout the mid-Atlantic area for the past 25 years. Friends will be received Friday, December 3, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow at the Georgetown Methodist Cemetery in Horner, WV. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 & #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Buckhannon Lodge #7 A.F. & A.M will conduct funeral rites at the graveside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Morgantown Hospice, PO Box 4222 Morgantown, WV 26504 in memory of Raymond Embrey. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Velma Echard
Velma Echard, age 88, of Buckhannon, WV, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at her home. She was born March 12, 1924 in Upshur Co., WV, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Belle Hibbs Lowe. On May 8, 1942 she married E. Pearl Echard who preceded her in death on September 4, 1985. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Warren Echard. She is survived by three daughters, Crystal Tenney and husband Kenneth and Helen Joyce Echard all of Buckhannon, and Anita Rose Hamner of Mt. Carmel, WV; three grandsons, Mitchell Tenney of Ten Mile, WV, Martin Tenney of Buckhannon, and Edgar Hamner of Mt. Carmel; three granddaughters, Rosalin Arbogast of Mill Creek, WV, Julie Hamner of Buckhannon, and Olivia Hamner of Mt. Carmel; five great grandchildren and one sister, Iris Brake of Export, PA. Mrs. Echard was a Clerical Worker at the Senior Center. She was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church and attended the Tallmansville Baptist Church. Mrs. Echard was a past member of Tallmansville CEOS & Pythian Sisters. Friends will be received Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV. Franklin C. 'Hank' Ellis
Franklin C. 'Hank' Ellis, age 94, of Buckhannon, WV, died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born August 18, 1921 in Bluefield, WV, a son of the late James Lake and Mona C. Colley Ellis. On March 24, 1945 he married Ruth Alice Sherrard who preceded him in death on October 26, 2009. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Lake Ellis, and a son in law, Jimmie Green. He is survived by one son, Frank Ellis and wife Traci of Buckhannon; two daughters, Cheri Green of Buckhannon and Jeanne Zickefoose and husband Gary of Bridgeport, WV; five grandsons, Clint Green and wife Aimee, Jon Green and wife Holly and Frank Ellis all of Buckhannon, Greg Zickefoose and wife Maggie of National Harbor, MD and Brian Zickefoose and wife Kimberly of Lancaster, PA; three granddaughters, Mindi McGrew and husband Jason of Hurricane, WV, Shelli Lantz and husband Eric and Olivia Ellis all of Buckhannon; eight great-grandsons, Jack, Mitch and Rhett McGrew all of Hurricane, Barett Zickefoose of Lancaster, Jimmie and Julian Green, Mason and Clay Lantz all of Buckhannon and six great-granddaughters, Madison, Delaney and Cheridyn Green and Ava Lantz all of Buckhannon and Brianna and Meara Zickefoose both of Lancaster. Mr. Ellis served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1942 until he retired in 1967 as a Lieutenant Commander. He was the Commanding Officer on the USS LCT 710 from May of 1944 through March of 1945 where he carried cargo from large ships to and across the Beaches of Normandy. He made the D-Day landing on Utah Beach, Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. In June of 1945, he was the Gunnery Officer on the USS LCI 728 in Pearl Harbor, HI. Mr. Ellis returned to Normandy for the 20th Reunion of D-Day, in 1964, the 50th Reunion in 1994, and the 60th Reunion in 2004. In 2015, he was awarded the French Legion Medal of Honor by the French government. Hank graduated from BUHS in 1939, received his Bachelors Degree from WVWC in 1943, and a Masters Degree from WVU in 1947. Mr. Ellis was a professional basketball player for the Wheeling Blues from 1947-1950 and was a member of the U.S. Olympic Basketball Committee from 1969 until 1972. He coached and taught at Martins Ferry High School in 1949 before becoming a coach and professor of health and P.E. at WVWC from 1950-1990. He was the head basketball with 303 career wins, the head baseball coach with 298 career wins, and the head cross country coach as well as the Athletic Director at WVWC. On April 30, 1986, the baseball field at WVWC was named after Coach Hank Ellis. Hank was inducted into the BU Sports Hall of Fame, the WV Sports Hall of Fame, and the WVWC Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Ellis was a life member of the VFW Post #3663, a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion, Franklin Lodge # 7 AF & AM with a Master Mason 50 year pin and the Buckhannon Lions Club with a 50 year pin. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon, WV. The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers Ann Shearer, Nancy Humphries, Linda Cowger, the staff at St. Joseph's NCF, and the staff on the 6th Floor at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. Friends will be received Friday, November 6, 2015 from 3-9 PM at the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of WVWC. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Saturday at Wesley Chapel on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College with the Rev. LeRoy Jones and the Rev. Ronald McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. The Upshur Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the graveside. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Hank Ellis Scholarship Fund c/o WVWC. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
