Lonnie Lynn Lake, age 57, of French Creek, WV died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. He was born February 9, 1957 in Weston, WV, a son of the late Oley Curtis and Catherine Jean Lake Keener. He is survived by two daughters, Mariana Lake Brown of Buckhannon, WV and Serenity Gates of Sacramento, CA; three granddaughters, Kaycie and Maddison Bobbins both of Ravenswood, WV and Mckenzie Laccone of Buckhannon; one grandson, Brayden West of Buckhannon; three brothers, Rick Curtis of WA, Herbert Curtis of Weston and Thomas Lake of Kimballton, IA and two sisters, Louise Curtis and Linda Marple both of Weston. Mr. Lake was a Mechanic and Welder. He served in the US Army. Friends will be received Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Cutright officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Weston. Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

David Lee Edwards
David Lee Edwards, age 78 of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Nellas Inc. in Crystal Springs, WV. He was born April 14, 1937 at Century, WV, a son of the late Clayton T. and Marie Pullins Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Taylor Edwards and one brother, Clayton Thomas Edwards, Jr. He is survived by one son, Richard W. Edwards and wife Christa of Buckhannon; one daughter, Joni Rice and husband Mark of Kerrville, TX; two grandsons, Ryan Stanush of Denver, CO and Kyle Stanush of San Marcos, TX; four granddaughters, Stephanie Colestock of Ft. Worth, TX and Elizabeth, Anastasia and Alexandra Edwards of Buckhannon; four sisters, Eleanor Burr of Buckhannon, Shirley Schudel of Elkins, WV, Judy Eidman of MD and Christine Payne of Buckhannon; one brother, Raymond T. Edwards of Buckhannon and two great grandchildren. Mr. Edwards was retired from the US Army as a Master Sergeant with twenty-five years of service. He was awarded the Bronze Star and served in Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Buckhannon Moose Lodge #598, Buckhannon Elks Lodge BPOE #1736 and Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663.He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM, Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gary Wayne Elliott
Gary Wayne Elliott, 60, of East Liverpool, Ohio, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2016. Born Sept. 20, 1955 in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of Wanda (James) Vaughan Anderson of Dille, WV and the late Bert Elliott. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and a member of the East Liverpool Orioles and Potters Club. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Elliott. Surviving are his wife, Beverly Elliott of East Liverpool; three sons, Michael Simms of Washington, D.C., Gary J. Behanna and Companion Amy McIntosh of Charleston, W.Va., and Justin (Jordan) Behanna of East Liverpool; a daughter, Katelynn Elliott of East Liverpool; three grandchildren, Clayton, Dalton and Trenton; one half brother, James Wade Anderson of Dille, WV and two half sisters, Jennifer Tenney of Sago, WV and Joden Anderson of Hanover, PA. . Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 12 PM 2 PM the funeral hour, with the Rev. Junior Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Beechtown Cemetery, Frenchton, W.Va. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James Robert Posey, Sr.
James Robert Posey, Sr., age 72, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, October 23, 2015 at his home. He was born November 6, 1942 in Lewis County, WV, a son of the late James Everett and Dorothy Alice Scarff Posey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Loy Posey and three sisters, Betty Powers, Eileen Moore and Joy Danser. He is survived by his faithful companion, Janet Hamner of Rock Cave, WV; one son, Robert Posey and fiance, Florence Farrabee of Buckhannon; two daughters, Kathi Talley and husband Michael of Fleming Island, FL and Shannon Posey Nalley of Ashburn, VA; one grandson, Matthew Nalley of Ashburn; two granddaughters, Isabelle Nalley and Meagan Posey both of Ashburn; one great-grandson, Nathan Patterson of Ashburn; three great-granddaughters, Mya, Aaliyah and Layla Patterson all of Ashburn and two brothers, Troy Posey and wife Cheryl of St. Albans, WV and Ronnie Posey and wife Donna of Jane Lew, WV. Mr. Posey served as an LPN in the US Army from 1965 to 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 38 in Fountain, Colorado. He was a past District Commander in Colorado. He was the Charge Nurse of the Presidential Ward at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and cared for former Presidents and their families and many other dignitaries. Friends will be received Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 11 AM until 12 Noon at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 12 Noon on Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice Promise Foundation c/o WV Hospice 6 Hartman Plaza, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Guy Maxwell Foster
Guy Maxwell Foster, age 75, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, September 14, 2007 at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born July 29, 1932 in Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Samuel Guy and Beatrice M. Zickefoose Foster. On May 22, 1955 he married Yvonne Rastle who survives. Also surviving are three sons, David Wayne Foster and wife Marsha of Magnolia, TX, Stuart Alan Foster and wife Jo Ann of Bowling Green, KY and Gary Maxwell Foster and wife Susan of the Meadland Community in Taylor County, WV; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Foster of TX and Caley Foster of KY; four grandsons, Samuel Foster of TX, Gregory Foster of KY and Nathan and Zachary Foster of WV; a sister, Mary Lee Settle and husband Charles of Capron, VA; a niece, Terri Leigh Williams of Capron; a great niece and a great nephew. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a nephew, Chuckie Settle. Mr. Foster was valedictorian of his 1950 graduating class at Buckhannon-Upshur High School and received a BA from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Masters in Education from West Virginia University. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and taught in Webster County and St. Albans in WV before moving to Washington Court House in OH where he taught and became a school administrator. In 1983 he retired as Superintendent of Miami Trace Local School District in OH and returned to WV where he worked as Manager of Fed One Savings and Loan and as an insurance Agent for Farmers Mutual Fire Association of West Virginia. While in OH he was a member of Grace UMC, Washington C H Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Brd. of Dir. for Community Education and Recreation Assoc., chairperson for Brd. of Dir. For Regional Special Education Resource Center, OH County Superintendents Assoc., Buckeye Assoc. of School Administrators, State Advisory Committee for Vocational Agriculture, Honorary Member of Ohio Future Farmers Assoc. and various teacher and principal associations. He was also a member of First UMC in Buckhannon, United Methodist Men and the Wesley Class where he was very active. Friends will be received Monday, September 17, 2007 from 4 to 9 PM at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church where he will lie in state from 9 to 10 AM with Rev. Dr. Damon Rhodes and Rev. Billee Scott Mick officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Hemlock. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in the name of Mr. Foster. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Russell G. Johnson
Russell G. Johnson, age 85, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, October 4, 2014. He was born June 29, 1929 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Charles Thomas and Josie Mae Bailey Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Glenn Johnson; one brother, Howard Johnson; one sister, Virginia Tharp and one daughter in law, Janette Johnson. He is survived by four sons, David Johnson and wife Debora of French Creek, WV, Randall Johnson and wife Glenda of Buckhannon, Joseph Edward Johnson and wife Mary of Rock Cave, WV and Mark Allen Johnson and wife Patricia Ann of Hinkleville, WV; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Johnson and wife Beatrice of MO and Robert Johnson of Buckhannon and one sister, Margaret McGee of MI. Mr. Johnson worked for the Department of Highways. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Friends will be received Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 1-2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Bailey Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Waldeck Fisher
Virginia Waldeck Fisher, age 98, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at her home in Pittsburgh, PA. Born July 10, 1909 in Clarksburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Della Waldeck Fisher. Miss Fisher was a graduate of Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg. She graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1932 with a bachelors degree in chemistry and later earned a masters degree in secondary education at the University of Pittsburgh. She was a widely recognized high school chemistry teacher in both West Virginia and Pennsylvania, with a teaching career that spanned nearly 60 years. Both her professional and personal lives were marked with an extraordinary commitment to the promotion of chemical education and to the encouragement of chemistry students. Miss Fisher was actively engaged in her profession as a chemical educator. She was a member of the Pittsburgh Section of the American Chemical Society, the Society of Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh, and the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh. She was the initiator of the Pittsburgh Chemistry Olympics for high school chemistry students and was a leader in bringing the International Chemistry Olympiad to Pittsburgh in 1992. She received numerous awards and recognitions for her work in chemical education and was the author of several publications, including books on the Pittsburgh Chemistry Olympics and on Dr. Nicholas Hyma, her chemistry professor at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Miss Fisher was very active in the alumni programs of West Virginia Wesleyan College. In 1988, she received the West Virginia Wesleyan College Alumni Associations Extra Mile Award in recognition of her efforts to recruit students and to raise funds for chemistry scholarships. She was a founder of the Nicholas Hyma Scholarship Society. She also was a member of the West Virginia Wesleyan College Emeritus Club and a life member of the Wesleyan Society. A life-long member of the United Methodist Church, Miss Fisher attended the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2007 in the West Meditation Chapel at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV with the Rev. Dr. Harold T. Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in the Machaphelia Cemetery in Weston, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Virginia Waldeck Fisher Memorial Scholarship or the Nicholas Hyma Scholarship Fund for Chemistry Students at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon is handling the funeral arrangement.

Leahbell Norma 'Boots' Friend
Leahbell Norma 'Boots' Friend, age 71, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, WV. She was born April 10, 1936 at Kanawha Head, WV, a daughter of the late John Reuben and Elizabeth Teresa Sims Lane. On December 3, 1955 she married Norris Verl Friend who preceded her in death on January 9, 1981. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Peg Linger and Patty Smith and three brothers, Rev. Stick Lane, Ernest Lane and Gayle Lane. She is survived by one daughter, Becky Isenhart of Gettysburg, PA; two sons, Mark Friend and wife Katherine of Buckhannon and David Friend and wife Jennifer of Kiel, WI; true companion, Tracey Segur of Buckhannon; five grandsons, David Friend of Morgantown, WV, Cirk Friend of Clarksburg, WV, Jeremy Isenhart of Milford, DE, Jacob and Joseph Friend, both of Kiel; two granddaughters, LaShawn Jorrisma of Worchester, MA and Leah Friend of Kiel; three great-grandsons, Austin and Foster Robinson both of Worchester and Brandon Friend of Mannington, WV; one sister, Dortha Carroll of Glenford, OH and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Friend was a retired LPN for Holbrook's Nursing Home. She was a member of the Mt. Herman United Methodist Church. She had been the alto singer for several gospel groups through out the area through the years. Friends will be received Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. Dayne E. Jack
Dayne E. Jack, age 92, of Jack Hill, Buckhannon, WV, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born August 17, 1916 in Upshur County, a son of the late George W. and Katie Hawkins Jack. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Stuart, Ralph and Hubert Jack and three sisters, Ruth Spatzer, Hepsy Jack and Mabel Burr. He is survived by one brother George Jack of North Carolina; one sister Kathleen Poling of Buckhannon; five nephews, Blaine Jack, Billy Jack and wife Michelle and Tom Poling, all of Buckhannon, Edward Jack of Philippi, WV and George Jack of North Carolina; two nieces, Helen Lantz and husband Scott of Buckhannon and Kathy McVicker of Philippi and many friends. Mr. Jack was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army serving in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and working in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. until his retirement. Mr. Jack was a member of the VFW Post # 3663 and he will be missed be all. Friends will be received Friday, May 1, 2009 from 12 PM to 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 1 PM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow at the Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery. VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Brent Mason Freeman, II
Brent Mason Freeman, II, age 61, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, March 6, 2008. He was born January 5, 1947 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Brent Mason and Virginia Ginny Mae Kesling Freeman. On March 9, 1968 he married Joyce L. Lesondak who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Kristen Williams and husband Jamie of Somerdale, OH, Alicia Hodges and husband Judd of Buckhannon and Heather Cogar and husband Jeff of French Creek, WV; one granddaughter, Sarah Williams of Somerdale; two grandsons, Benjamin and Bryce Cogar both of French Creek and one brother, Lee Paul Freeman of Tennerton, WV. Mr. Freeman was a driller for Union Drilling and a Methodist by faith. Friends will be received Friday, March 7, 2008 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Point Pleasant Church Cemetery at Abbott, WV. Sherman Kesling, Jr.
Sherman Kesling, Jr., age 78, of Wallace, WV died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born October 20, 1930 in Randolph County, WV, a son of the late Sherman and Hazel Jane Riffle Kesling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Kesling and one sister, Louise VanDette. He is survived by his wife, Esta Virginia Kesling; three daughters, Lorrie Kesling of Wallace, Hazel Elaine Jenkins and husband Donnie of Sardis Road, WV and Cheryl Kesling of Little Rock Camp, WV; two sons, Sherman Kesling, III of Little Rock Camp Road and Glen Kesling of Little Rock Camp Road; five grandsons, Christopher Alan Kesling and wife Sabrina of Greenlawn Edition, WV, Donnie Jenkins, Jr. of Chiefton Hollow, WV, Sherman Kesling, IV of Olive, WV, David Kesling-Sell of Little Rock Camp Road and David Shaw, III of Little Rock Camp Road; three granddaughters, Leigh Anna Hinzman and husband Jeremy of Stealey, WV, Tina Marie Jenkins of Sardis Road and Aurora Virginia Burton of Little Rock Camp Road; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Barbara Collins and husband Oren of Painsville, OH, Karen Kesling of Hodgesville, WV, Linda DeBarr of Buckhannon, WV and Shirley Tallman and husband Charlie of Belington, WV and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kesling was a coal miner and a member of the NRA. Friends will be received Monday, August 17, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Shreve officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Church Cemetery at Audra, WV. VFW Post # 3663, Frank B.
