Faye Blanche Shaw Vandall Hope
Faye Blanche Shaw Vandall Hope, age 63, of Buckhannon, WV, formerly of Brooksville, Florida, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Hospice Care In-Patient Center in Elkins, WV, following a long, brave battle with cancer. Faye was born in Upshur County on December 23, 1945 and was the only daughter of the late Ray Vernon and Pauline Virginia Huffman Shaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Edgar Allen Vandall and 2nd husband, Jack Arnold Hope. She is survived by her sister JoAnn Rohr and husband James of Buckhannon and many cousins. After high school Faye moved to Florida where she resided for 35 years. While living in Florida, Faye was employed by Sypris Electronics in Tampa. Faye was a lifelong Christian and a member of the Brooksville Assembly of God Church in Brooksville, FL and also the Pleasant Dale Church in Selbyville, WV. Last year Faye moved back to Buckhannon to stay with her dear friend, sister JoAnn and husband James Rohr. Friends will be received at the Pleasant Dale United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 1-2 PM the funeral hour, with the Rev. Junior Harris and the Rev. Randy Simms officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Dale Church Cemetery at Selbyville. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Vera Elizabeth Hornbeck
Vera Elizabeth Hornbeck, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, September 7, 2009 at Colonial Place in Elkins, WV. She was born September 5, 1923 in Tallmansville, WV, a daughter of the late Dewey A. and Nina Carter Rice. On September 21, 1945 she married Charles L. Hornbeck who preceded her in death on June 14, 2005. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Lairl Rice. She is survived by one son, Stephen Hornbeck and wife Carolyn of Buckhannon; one grandson, Jason Hornbeck of Louisville, KY; two sisters-in-law, Lois Rice and Lillian Waugh both of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hornbeck was a former Administrative Secretary for WV Wesleyan College. She was a Strawberry Princess in 1941. She was a member of Chapter # 18 Order Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron from 1967-1968. She was a former Business and Professional Woman of the year. Friends will be received Wednesday, September 9, 2009 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Poling officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Tallmansville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, 1600 Crim Ave. Belington, WV 26250. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Arnold Elijah Huffman
Arnold Elijah Huffman, age 91, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, August 3, 2009 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born August 4, 1917 in Canaan, WV, a son of the late Jason Arnold and Dessie Lee England Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Freda Lucille Ware; second wife, Freda (Red) Blanche Vaughan; son Billy Joe Huffman; two brothers, Wilmoth and Everett Huffman and eight sisters, Ruby Carr, Pauline Shaw, Goldie Shaw, Ruth Rice, Rose Westfall, Beulah Roth, Birdie Huffman and Bertha Huffman. He is survived by four daughters, Charlotte Chandler and husband Charles of Pickens, WV, Nancy Hillard and husband John of Charleston, WV, Jewell Beeson and husband Terry of Buckhannon and Bonnie Rowan and husband Junior of Buckhannon; six sons, George Huffman and wife Judy of Canton, OH, Jack Huffman and wife Nancy of Bradenton, FL, Denver Huffman and wife Debbie of Finksburg, MD, Mike Huffman of Buckhannon, Everett Huffman and wife Karen of Parkersburg, WV and Randy Huffman of Anmore, WV; twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Huffman worked for the City of Buckhannon as a Street Sweeper. He was a member of the National Riffle Association and was a Methodist. Friends will be received Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Clifford Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Dale Church Cemetery at Selbyville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Judson J. Hodges
Judson J. Hodges, age 90, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, WV. He was born October 17, 1918 in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late Judson T. and Rosella Post Hodges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and a partner, Mary Glenn Bell. He is survived by one son, James J. Hodges of Fairfax, VA and ex-wife, Juanita Hodges of Keyser, WV. Mr. Hodges was a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church of Buckhannon, a member of the VFW Post # 3663 and Franklin Lodge # 7 AF & AM. He was inducted in the Upshur County Athletic Hall of Fame and the Potomac State College Athletic Hall of Fame, where he worked as an assistant basketball and football coach from 1946-1951. He was an FBI Agent for 22 years, served as Assistant to the Director and retired as a Supervisor. He served in the US Army Air Force during WW II where he attained the rank of Major. He was instrumental in establishing miniature horses in the US. Friends will be received Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 4-8 P at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Billee Scott Mick and Bobbie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mary Glenn Bell Piano Scholarship Fund at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters # 5 & 36 will conduct Military Honors and Franklin Lodge # 7 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside rites. Grace Brown Hicks
Mrs. Grace Brown Hicks, of Fayetteville, NC, died peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2006, with her family at her bedside. In August 2006 she and her family had celebrated the 63rd anniversary of her marriage to Mason Hicks and the 84th anniversary of her birth. Grace Brown was born in Buckhannon, WV, the third child of Stanley and Stella Brown, on August 7, 1922. In 1933 she and Mason Hicks, also of Buckhannon, began their 74 year romance. Grace was a 1939 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, where she was an outstanding student and musician. In 1943 she earned a degree in education from West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she twice served as class secretary, was a member of the a capella choir and the college trio, Sigma Delta Chi social sorority and Sigma Alpha Sigma academic sorority, and was president of Wesleyans band and orchestra. Also in 1943 she and Mason, then a cadet in the Army Air Corps, were married. An excellent teacher and a versatile musician, Grace founded the kindergarten at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Fayetteville in 1959, taught there for many years, and directed the churchs Children's Choir. Subsequently she became the first kindergarten teacher in North Carolinas public schools, teaching in Fayetteville until her retirement in 1990. Her two grandchildren, life with Mason, music, the beauty of spring and occasional travel to North Carolinas beaches and West Virginia mountains were the great joys of her later years. Grace is survived by her husband, Mason Spiller Hicks of Fayetteville; daughters, Jan Engel Hicks of Rocky Mount, NC and Baylor Hicks of San Francisco; son, Daniel Mason Hicks of Fayetteville; sister, Judith ODonnell of Buckhannon; brothers, Jerome Brown of Buckhannon and Kenneth Brown of Clarksville, GA; granddaughter, Mary Grace Hicks of Greensboro, NC; and grandson, Jacob Mason Hicks of Lillington, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents and by two of her sisters, LeEllen Best of Buckhannon and Edith Rae Evans of Fairmont. A memorial service was held in Fayetteville on December 21 at Highland Presbyterian Church with Dr. Ernie Johnson officiating. Family and friends are welcome to a commemoration of her life and interment of her remains, to be conducted by the family at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon on August 7, 2007 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Nature Conservancy North Carolina, 4705 University Drive, Durham, NC 27707. Indicate Grace Hicks on a note line; a memorial fund in her name has been established, with all donations to be used for the purchase an d preservation of land in North Carolina. Leon 'Rocky' Lane, Sr.
It is with deep sadness that we announce that Leon 'Rocky' Lane, Sr. departed this life on Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV after a sudden illness. He was born August 17, 1934 to Everett J. and Leona Harlow Lane in the Leonard Memorial Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. Both parents preceded him in death. Rocky is survived by his wife Deborah Flanagan Lane of Glady Fork, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Joseph Lane. He is also survived by his siblings, June Land Gould and James Lane both of Glady Fork; two children, Karen Lane Christilles of Lawrence, KS and husband Dennis and their sons, Noah and Jacob also of Lawrence, KS, Leon Lane, II and wife Rebeccah of Lexington, KY; granddaughter, Kathy Lane McKinney and husband and children, Sarah and James McKinney. Granddaughter, Rachel Lane of Georgetown, KY; nephew, Gordon R. Williams, Jr of Glady Fork, Buckhannon and children Zachery and Benjamin Williams of Oviedo, FL; mother in law, Areta J. Krause of Glady Fork, Buckhannon; assorted nieces and nephews. Formerly married to Mary Flint of Molesworth, England who preceded him in death and Dorthy Lane of Buckhannon. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the States of Germany, England as a soldier in Skywolf, a special army attachment to the air force. He was retired Union Carpenter, personal contractor, sign maker and in later years a farmer and participating in the local farmers market. Genealogy was his passion and he photographed cemeteries for posterity across many states. He was a techie before the word app was even thought of. He also loved computers. John Howard Lantz
John Howard Lantz, age 73 of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, WV. He was born August 21, 1938 in Randolph Co. a son of the late Howard Riley and Mary Olive Knotts Lantz. On June 11, 1961 he married Mary B. Harlow who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Milenda Lantz and one son, Daniel Lantz both of Buckhannon; two sisters, Alma Marcho of Philippi, WV and Barbara Bragg and husband Roy of Belington, WV; one brother, Jim Lantz of Springfield, VA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother William Lantz. Mr. Lantz was an auto mechanic, a member of the Adrian United Methodist Church and attended Faith Baptist Church. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a past commander for the DAV Chapter #5, past president of the Mountain State Transmitters and he was an avid gardener. Friends will be received Friday, February 10, 2012 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Davis and the Rev. Nancy Killingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Hinkleville, WV. VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 and #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mazie Ruth Haymond
Mazie Ruth Haymond, age 93, of Rock Cave, WV, died Friday, September 28, 2007 at Nellas Nursing Home in Elkins, WV. She was born on October 19, 1913 in Webster County, WV a daughter of the late Lee and Nettie Ann (Hamrick) McCray. On June 19, 1931 she married Arden Haymond who preceded her in death October 2, 1990. Mrs. Haymond is survived by three sons; Robert Haymond and wife Rella of Buckhannon, James Richard Haymond and wife Thelma of Baden, PA, and Raymond Haymond and wife Faye of Orange Park, FL; two daughters, Roberta Baxa of Rochester, PA, and Jenny Carr and husband Wayne of Westerville, OH; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Debbie Baxa, and 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She was a homemaker and a Christian by faith. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday at the funeral home with the Reverend J. Robert J. Haymond
Robert J. Haymond, age 75, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, December 28, 2007 at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born January 31, 1932 at Kanawha Head, WV, a son of the late Arden and Mazie Ruth McCray Haymond. On October 30, 1964 he married Rella Ware who survives. Also surviving are one son, Terry Haymond of Columbus, OH; two brothers, James Richard Haymond and wife Thelma of Baden, PA and Raymond Haymond and wife Faye of Orange Park, FL; two sisters, Roberta Baxa of Rochester, PA and Jenny Carr and husband Wayne of Westerville, OH. Mr. Haymond served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict from September, 1952 until June, 1954 and was a steel worker for J & L Steel. Friends will be received Tuesday, January 1, 2008 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Hodom Cemetery at Hacker Valley, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma E. Higgins
Thelma E. Higgins, age 76, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, January 11, 2008 at her home. She was born February 28, 1931 in Elkins, WV, a daughter of the late Cecil and Virgie E. Weese Canfield. On June 14, 1947 she married Warren W. Higgins who preceded her in death on December 23, 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Marie Higgins; two brothers, Denver Canfield and Lacy Canfield and one sister, Dolores Shannon. She is survived by four sons, Terry Higgins of Chocowinity, NC and Steve, Randy and Larry Higgins, all of New Martinsville, WV; three daughters, Cheryl Morgan of Martinsburg, WV, Virgie Sarver of Buckhannon and Pamela Anderson of Cincinnati, OH; one sister, Wilma Biller of Kerns, WV; two half sisters, Shelby Weese of Akron, OH and Patricia Bland of Berkeley Springs, WV; step mother, Blanche Johnson of Inwood, WV; fifteen grandchildren; one step-grandchild; sixteen great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Higgins was a homemaker and a Christian by Faith. Friends will be received Thursday, January 17, 2008 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Billee Scott Mick officiating. Burial will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens in Elkins, WV. Virginia C. Kyle
Virginia C. Kyle, age 79, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, November 8, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, WV. She was born December 23, 1929 in Long, WV, a daughter of the late Elias Phillip and Icie Pearl Thomason Zickefoose. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John W. Kyle, Jr. who died on November 21, 2005; two sons, Jerry L. and Robert P. Kyle; one brother, Gilbert Thomason and one sister, Juanita Vandevender. She is survived by one son, John W. Kyle, III and wife Cathy L. of Nutter Fort, WV; one daughter, Patricia Kyle of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Samantha and Jessica Russell both of Buckhannon; four brothers, Darrel Zickefoose and wife Sylvia of North Ridgeville, OH, Carrol Zickefoose and wife Elizabeth Tiny of North Ridgeville, Harold Zickefoose of French Creek, WV and Roger Zickefoose and wife Barbara of Buckhannon; four sisters, Mary Wilson of Rock Cave, WV, Deloris Madden and husband Dale of Columbia Station, OH, Hilda Hanifan and husband Denver of Queens, WV and Betty Miller and husband Ralph of Buckhannon; sister in law, Arabelle Thomason of Queens and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kyle worked for Marshallan Manufacturing Company in Cleveland, OH. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Buckhannon. Friends will be received Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev.
