Evelyn B. 'Squirt' Miller
Evelyn B. 'Squirt' Miller, age 79, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at her home. She was born December 12, 1929 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Forman W. and Nora Belle Kittle Reed. On July 22, 1950 she married Marvin Douglas Miller who preceded her in death June 24, 1977. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Charles and Russell Reed; one sister, Anna Marie Reed and one niece and three nephews. She is survived by three sons, Steven Miller and wife Karen of Abbott, WV, David Miller and wife Patty of Metz, WV and Michael Miller and wife Beth of Abbott; four brothers, Corbin Reed of St. Clair Shores, MI, Freeman Reed of Buckhannon, Willard Reed of Hammond, LA and Gerald Reed of Warner Robins, GA; four sisters, Phyllis Wilfong, Naomi Criss and Marion Boothe all of Buckhannon and Rose Mary Hughes of Mineral Wells, WV; four grandsons, David Mark Miller, II of Nashville, TN, Steven Douglas Miller of Beckley, WV, Charles Robert Miller of Las Vegas, NV and Eric Michael Miller of Abbott; one granddaughter, Michelle Smith of Westover, WV; six great-grandsons, Jarod Miller of Nashville, Riley, Dustin and Micah Miller all of Las Vegas and Sonny and Joseph Smith both of Westover, WV; one great-granddaughter, Kaelyn Miller of Nashville and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She was a member of the North Buckhannon United Methodist Church where she was very active. She was a loving mother and grandmother and volunteered at the Parish House. She enjoyed life and being with family and friends. Friends will be received Friday, July 10, 2009 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Point Pleasant Church Cemetery at Abbott. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph B. Mow
Joseph Mow age 83 died on December 4, 2009 at Holbrook's On The Hill nursing home in Buckhannon. He was born on July 10, 1926, in Mussoorie, India, the son of Anna Beahm Mow and Baxter Mow, who served as missionaries in that country. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Bunny Mow of Buckhannon, whom he married on December 20, 1953, and three children: Peggy Lombardo of Albany, NY, and her two children, Tony and Krista Lombardo; Carolyn Mow, her husband Phil Pardi and son Emilio Pardi of Phoenicia, NY; and Andrew Mow, his wife Deborah Weinstein and their two children, Benjamin and Rachel Mow of Granite Falls, Washington. Also surviving are his sister, Lois Snavely, of Loris, SC, and his sister-in-law, Kathy Mow, in Farmington, PA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Merrill Mow. Joe attended Woodstock School in India and John Marshall High School in Chicago. He graduated from Manchester College in Indiana with a B.A., then studied at Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago and the University of Chicago, where he earned a B.D. and a Ph.D.. He studied at Oxford University during a sabbatical in 1971-72. Post World War II, Joe worked with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the Brethren Service Unit in China expediting relief shipments into the interior and teaching Chinese farmers how to run tractors. He then went to Europe to work with the resettlement of war refugees, first with the Brethren Service Center, then with the World Council of Churches. Later he became Associate Director for Immigration Services of Church World Service in New York City. From 1958-1961, Joe was the pastor of the First Church of Deerfield, MA., which served the student population of Deerfield Academy as well as the community. He and his family came to Buckhannon in 1963 where he taught in the Department of Philosophy of West Virginia Wesleyan College where he served as the Dept. Chair until his retirement in 1988. Joe was a member of West Virginia state Ethics program Planning Committee, the West Virginia Philosophy Society, the Philosophical Association, and the American Society for Christian Ethics. He also served as Chairman of the American Academy of Religion section of Society for Philosophy of Creativity. Joe was an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and a member of the First Congregational Church in Marietta, Ohio, as well as the Southeast Ohio Association of that denomination. He was a member of the Buckhannon Rotary Club for 46 years, and a Paul Harris Fellow. He volunteered for the Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity. Following retirement, he and his wife traveled to Nicaragua, China, India and Europe. His hobbies included playing the violin, woodworking, sailing and reading. At his request, Joe will be cremated and his ashes buried in the foothills of the Himalayas near Woodstock School. A memorial service will be held at the chapel at West Virginia Wesleyan College on Monday, December 7th at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Library at West Virginia Wesleyan College, 59 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201 or to Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 495, Buckhannon, WV 26201 in the name of Joseph B. Mow. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Josephine E. Minor
Josephine E. Minor, age 75, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Holbrook's Nursing Home in Buckhannon. She was born November 4, 1934 in Baldwin, WV, a daughter of the late Orville S. and Ola Sparks Brannon. On February 3, 1993 she married Robert Minor who survives. Also surviving are two step sons, Robert Minor, Jr. and wife Terry of Buckhannon and Roger D. Minor of FL; one step daughter, Melody Ronko of NC; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Orville S. Brannon, Jr. and wife Sue of De Land, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hatti Legget, Jean Powell and Katherine Stout. Mrs. Minor was a teacher for the Lewis County Board of Education. She was a loving, giving and caring person. Friends will be received Friday, March 12, 2010 from 12 Noon until 2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Billee Scott Mick officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery at Hampton, WV. Sylvia Modesitt
Sylvia Modesitt, age 59, of Elizabeth, WV died Friday, August 13, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, WV. She was born August 24, 1950 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Glen and Margaret Sandy. On April 7, 2007 she married Harold Modesitt who survives. Also, surviving are three sons, Philip Rushing of Port Lavaca, TX, Rodney Rushing and wife Debbie of Buckhannon, WV and Floyd Edward Roby of Huttonsville, WV; two daughters, Phyllis Rushing of Clarksburg, WV and Katrina Sandy of Buckhannon; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Sandy of Savannah, GA and Ira Bud Sandy of Port Lavaca, TX; two step sons, Tellie Gibson and Dale Wingfield both of Buckhannon and a son in law Dave Lower of Buckhannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Roby and one sister, Deloris Sandy. Mrs. Modesitt was a homemaker. She was a Baptist by faith. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 from 1-2 PM the funeral hour with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Carrel Glen Miller
Carrel Glen Miller, age 95, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, November 22, 2010 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV. He was born September 11, 1915 in Kedron, WV, a son of the late Gordon and Dessie Wamsley Miller. On March 11, 1936 he married Ernestine Susie Wolfe who preceded him in death on January 6, 1998. In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by one sister, Clara Miles and two brothers, Cloyd and Lester Miller. He is survived by one sister, Evangeline Clark and husband Ben of Miami, FL; sister in law, Phyllis Miller of Jacksonville, FL and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Miller was the Owner of the Millers Cabinet Shop. He was a Methodist by faith. Friends will be received Friday, November 26, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Poling officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. Orvis D. Mills
Orvis D. Mills, age 91, of Lexington, KY died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington. He was born June 23, 1919 in Mooween, PA, a son of the late Jeral Roy and Hilda Pearl Koon Mills. On September 30, 1942 he married Verna Suillia Lake who preceded him in death on January 29, 1995. He is survived by two sons, Allen D. Mills and wife Sandra of Georgetown, KY and Gordon L. Mills and wife Susan of Peachtree City, GA; one granddaughter, Melissa Mills Speck and husband Andrew of Stanwood, WA; three grandsons, Brandon K. Mills and wife Rebecca of Indianapolis, IN, Ryan D. Mills and wife Audrey of Stanley, NC and Kerry C. Mills and wife Jessica of Greenville, GA; two great-grandsons, Tyler Speck of Stanwood and Haydon Mills of Indianapolis; two great-granddaughters, Ashlee Speck of Stanwood and Ryleigh Mills of Indianapolis; one brother, Jeral Mills of Erie, PA; two sisters, Wanda Suscheck and Nancy Levonduskie both of Erie, and three sisters in law, Betty Mills of Canton, GA, Shirley Mills and Mary Mills both of Erie. Mr. Mills was a 50 year member and a past Master of the Houston Lodge # 35 of Perry, GA. He served in the US Army during WW II as a Warrant Officer and later on served in the Airforce Reserve as a Captain and worked in Maintenance Logistics Engineering. He was a Methodist by faith. Friends will be received Friday, January 21, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion and DAV Chapters #5 & #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside and Franklin Lodge # 7 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside rites. David Wayne Moore
David Wayne Moore, age 57, of Buckhannon, WV, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born March 9, 1956 in Bellaire, OH, a son of the late Carey L. and Ruth M. Wiley Moore. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Sherry Moore. He is survived by one son, Christopher Moore of Morgantown, WV; two brothers, Robert L. Moore of Weston, WV and Timothy L. Moore of Buckhannon; five sisters, Joyce Sines, Carol Anderson, Mary Hamner, June Everett and Judy Conolley all of Buckhannon; and his former wife Judy Lough Moore of Adrian, WV. David served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, was a Carpenter and loved singing and playing the guitar. A private family service will planned for a later date. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Stephen Allen Mullens
Stephen Allen Mullens, age 42, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, May 6, 2013 at Colonial Place in Elkins, WV. He was born February 4, 1971 in Webster County, WV, a son of Ralph and Lee Radcliff Mullens of Webster County. On August 22, 1998 he married Angela D. Cunningham, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Sydney Mullens of Buckhannon and one sister, Angela Hollandsworth of Birch River, WV. Mr. Mullens was a Locomotive Engineer for A&O Railroad and a member of Good Hope Tabernacle in Buckhannon. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. David Allen Milburn
Dr. David Allen Milburn, age 71, of Buckhannon, WV, passed away at Country Meadows Rehabilitation Center in Bridgeville, PA, at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013, after a long illness due to surgical complications. Born November 28, 1941, David was the son of former councilman and mayor of Jeannette, PA the late Ellsworth R. Milburn and his wife, Estella Kratovil Milburn. Son-in-law of the late Dr. Robert DePue, Esquire, and Mary Davies DePue of Spencer, WV. David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dr. Ellsworth Milburn, Professor Emeritus of Rice University, and his son-in-law Rick Crites, formerly of Buckhannon.He is survived by his wife of 50 years, DeeAnna DePue Milburn, and two daughters, Dana Milburn and husband David Brauer of Arlington, VA; and Debby Milburn of Bridgeville, PA. Four grandchildren: Lauren Milburn Crites and Eric Allen Milburn of Bridgeville, and Benjamin Milburn Brauer and Evan Milburn Brauer of Arlington. Also step-grandson Rick Crites, Jr. (Katrina Morris Crites), of Buckhannon; brothers-in-law Daniel DePue and Robert DePue (Freda) of Spencer, WV; niece Lauren Milburn Remkes (Charles) and children, Leah and Ethan, of Albuquerque, NM; nephew Brendan Milburn (Valerie Vigoda) and son Mose, of Los Angeles, CA; niece Denise DePue Atkinson (Chris) and children Sarina and Savana of Cross Lanes, WV; niece Jondalyn DePue Martin (Wayne) and daughter Kimber of Weyers Cave, VA; and nephew Michael DePue (Mystie) and daughter Holly of Spencer, WV. David is also survived by a host of friends, colleagues, and beloved former students. His wealth of talent, kindness, wisdom, intelligence, and humor made him a truly exceptional teacher, mentor, and human being, described by many who loved him as larger than life. David graduated from Jeannette High School in Jeannette, PA in 1959 and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone from West Virginia University. During his senior year, he and three friends (Mike Roberts, George Miller and Larry OGrady) took over some of the teaching and directing duties after their professor suddenly resigned his position. David was also elected president of Omicron Delta Kappa Music Honorary. He received a Master of Music Theory from WVU in 1964 and served for a time as a music educator in the Monongahela County schools. Slide, as he was affectionately known by his earlier students, began his professorship at West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1966, teaching various music courses, giving private music instruction, and directing the bands for 38 years. More than that, he was a positive role model, mentor, and second father to hundreds of WVWC students. In 1982, David earned his Doctorate in Instrumental Conducting from Catholic University in Washington, DC, where he instructed and conducted several ensembles. Doc, as he was known by later generations of students, became Music Department Chair in 1984 until his retirement in 2004. Each spring break found the Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble touring on a bus, playing for secondary students and sightseeing around the Eastern part of the U.S. During his tenure at Wesleyan, David also took the Jazz Ensemble numerous times to Europe as Goodwill Ambassadors, playing American jazz in some of the finest concert halls in Poland, Romania, Estonia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Latvia, Finland, and the Soviet Union/Russia. In 1979 and 1984, the Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and at the International United Methodist Conference in 2004. Dr. Milburn was also selected as a reaccreditation evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Music, visiting and evaluating music programs at colleges and universities across the country. In addition, he was asked to serve as Guest Conductor and performance adjudicator for many music festivals throughout West Virginia and the nation over the course of his career. Former students of Dr. Milburn can be found throughout the United States and around the world. Not only are there countless music educators and professors among them, but also lawyers, doctors, dentists, teachers, business professionals, and professional musicians in the entertainment field and military bands, such as The Presidents Own. An avid fisherman, David loved his handmade 30-foot boat aptly named Satin Doll. He also loved his dogs, beer, reading historical novels, relating humorous stories and his silver Z-350 convertible. But the lights of his life were his grandchildren, whom he loved, adored, and treasured, and who lost him too soon. David was a member of the WV Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu (the International School Bandmasters Fraternity), the J.I.P., I.A.J.E. (International Association of Jazz Educators), the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. Friends may visit at Wesley Chapel located on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon on Friday, May 10, 2-4:00 and 6-9:00 p.m., and again on Saturday, May 11, at 12:00 noon. The service will be immediately following at 1:00 p.m with Rev. Dr. William Turner officiating. A reception luncheon will be served at the First United Methodist Church, 52 S. Florida Street, in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dr. David Milburn Music Scholarship Fund at West Virginia Wesleyan College (59 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201), so that in death as well as in life, his exceptional legacy of educating and helping young musicians to reach their full potential as musicians and as human beings can continue. Kermit D. Moreland, Jr.
Kermit D. Moreland, Jr., age 50, of Ellamore, WV, died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his home. He was born July 31, 1962 of Buckhannon, WV, a son of Kermit Dewane and Shelby Jean Edmond Moreland of Philippi, WV. In addition to his parents he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Moreland of Ellamore; one son, Joshua Moreland of Ellamore; one grandson, Troy Delaney of Ellamore; one granddaughter, Liliana Delaney of Ellamore and one sister, Pamela Bailey of West Milford. Mr. Moreland was a Floor Supervisor for Aleris. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 5-8 PM. In lieu of cut flowers, Jennifer would prefer that live flowers be sent so that she could plant them later. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
