Fredrick Alvin Peterson
Fredrick Alvin Peterson, age 88, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born June 23, 1920 in Sheboygan, WI, a son of the late Oscar and Minnie Sievers Peterson. He was married to Angelita Maria Cuesy Peterson who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Peterson and a sister, Marion Woods. Mr. Peterson is survived by a daughter, Claudia Peterson Pingley and husband Kenneth of Huttonsville, WV; a son, Fredrick A. Peterson of Las Vegas, NV; a grandson Zachary Pingley of Huttonsville and two granddaughters, Erika and Emily Pingley of Huttonsville. Of Mr. Petersons many accomplishments he authored or co-authored six books, published forty articles in different publications, was awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree, served in the US Army during WWII and was associated with WV Wesleyan College for over forty years as a professor of Archaeology and Anthropology which were his passion. Friends will be received Thursday, April 23, 2009 from 12 to 2 PM at Wesley Chapel on the Campus of WV Wesleyan College, with a service to follow at 2 PM with David Stuart officiating. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion and DAV Chapters #5 and #36 will conduct Military Honors at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to WV Wesleyan in memory of Dr. Peterson to be dedicated to Anthropology or Archaeology Degree students. Poling- St.Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marilyn C. Phillips
Marilyn C. Phillips, age 70, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Serenity Care Home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. She was born May 1, 1939 in Mill Creek, WV, a daughter of the late Remson and Naomi Wamsley Cutright. On August 12, 1955 she married Don Phillips who preceded her in death on August 20, 2000 after forty-five years of marriage. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela C. Phillips and one sister, Patricia Eileen Fincham. She is survived by two sons, Michael and Timothy Phillips both of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Bradley Phillips of Charleston, SC and Matthew E. Phillips of Mill Creek, WV; two sisters, Sharon Channel of Newton Falls, OH and Linda Smith and husband Keith of Cleveland, OH and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Phillips was retired after 23 years, as a cashier for Krogers in Buckhannon. She was a homemaker and protestant by faith. Friends will be received Friday, May 22, 2009 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. B. Glen Rader and the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Lugene Phillips
Betty Lugene Phillips, age 80, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at her home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. She was born April 28, 1929 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Fred A. and Blanche Rollins Foster. On September 5, 1948 she married William E. Phillips who preceded her in death on May 5, 1980. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Virginia Casto Foster and one daughter, Beverly Ann Phillips. She is survived by two sons, William E. Phillips, II and wife Cara of Webster Springs, WV and Sidney F. Phillips and wife Becky of Buckhannon; two daughters, Jennifer Phillips Gammon and husband Gary of Gastonia, NC and Patricia Phillips Hess of Buckhannon; five granddaughters, Jennifer Hess Wiles and husband Ben of Fayetteville, NC, Natalie Hess Houghton and husband Ryan of Huntington, WV, Kacie Phillips of Columbus, OH, Paige Phillips of Webster Springs and Sheena Phillips of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Chip Hess of Clinton, IN, Shea Phillips of Buckhannon and Gary Gammon, II of Chapel Hill, NC and one great-grandson, Otis Rollins Houghton of Huntington. Mrs. Phillips was a Real Estate Agent. A member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church of Buckhannon. Our Mother was the family matriarch, her wisdom and guidance invaluable, her faith, strength, and courage unwavering, and her love selfless and unending. She enjoyed reading, playing rummy, and spending time with family and friends. Friends will be received Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. James W. Piper
James W. Piper, age 63, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was born September 10, 1946 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late John and Vesta Hoey Piper. On July 15, 1989 he married Lorma I. Suder, who survives. Also surviving are one sister, Diana Ludwig and husband Al of Kansas City, MO; one nephew, Alfred Ludwig of Missouri and one brother-in-law, Freddy Suder and wife Stacy of Buckhannon. He worked in maintenance for Westinghouse and was a member of the Good Hope Tabernacle. Mr. Piper graduated from Norwin High School in Pittsburgh in 1964. He attended Davis & Elkins College and the University of Pheonix online. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968, having served on the US Power DD 839 and a Navy Destroyer. He was a member of Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663. He was HAM Radio Operator WV8JP and was a certified communicator for the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Units. Taking Bible courses he was able to go through the Bible twice and Made 95 to 100 each time. He supported a child through compassion. Friends will be received from 4-9 PM, Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday at the funeral home. With Pastor Holly J. Hoover and the Rev. John Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery, three miles past Kesling Mill, WV. Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion, Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663 and DAV Chapters 5 & 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bernice W. Phillips
Bernice W. Phillips, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Broaddus Hospital in Philippi, WV. She was born November 4, 1923 in Elkins, WV, a daughter of the late John W. and Emma Lena Griffith Kyle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Phillips and one brother, John W. Kyle, Jr. She is survived by a life long companion, Harold E. Starr of Buckhannon; one brother, Jacob M. Kyle and wife Beverly of Elkins; two sisters, Iris Newman and husband Donald of Cleveland, OH and Betty Krajawski of Beverly Hills, FL and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker. She worked during WWII in New York for the Federal Government. After returning home she and her husband John had a family grocery store in North Buckhannon. She retired after 18 years of service from the A.G. Shannon Hardware Co., as office manager. She was active in the Upshur County Republican Women as well as the State Republican Party. She was also active as a board member and treasurer of the WV Strawberry Festival Association, was a member of BURMA and Volunteered for Service Corps of Retired Executives. One of her greatest accomplishments was the work she did for the needy in Upshur County at the Salvation Army. She was also a member of the Buchannon Women of the Moose Lodge # 598. Friends will be received Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Benjamin Franklin Poinsett
Benjamin Franklin Poinsett, age 78, of Bethesda, MD died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He was born June 21, 1931 in Huntington, NY, a son of the late Herbert Welsh Evans and Mabel Mary Christena Moser Poinsett. On August 23, 1958 he married Doris Jean Post who preceded him in death on September 11, 2005. He is survived by his partner, Goldie Pavay of Bethesda; a sister, June Blum; many nieces and nephews. Ben was a brother-in-law of Bob and Peggy Post of Buckhannon. Mr. Poinsett was an electrical engineer and served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Friends will be received from 10-11 AM, Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11 AM at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon, WV. Frank B. Bartlett Post #7, American Legion, Buckhannon VFW Post #3663 and Chapters 5 & 36 DAV will conduct military honors at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name and call sign K3BP W1AW c/o American Radio Relay League, 225 Main St., Newington, CT 06111. Anna Lee Posey
Anna Lee Posey, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, January 4, 2010 at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon. She was born July 10, 1925 in Upshur County, WV a daughter of the late Artie Clyde and Zelpha Ann Martin Jackson. On August 4, 1953 she married Earl Posey who preceded her in death on May 28, 2003. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Willa Ruth Miller. She is survived by three sons, Bill Fincham of Rutledge, TN, Tom Posey of Buckhannon and Stephen Posey and wife Vickie of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Joe Fincham and wife Reta of Springfield, OH, John Fincham and wife Heather of Harrisonburg, VA and Thomas Posey and wife Lisa of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Tracy Posey of Morgantown, WV, Megan and Calli Posey both of Buckhannon; three great-grandsons, Brady Fincham of Harrisonburg, Mack Finchman of Springfield and Hunter Posey of Buckhannon; five great-granddaughters, Carley Finchman of Harrisonburg, Samantha and Anna Finchman both of Springfield, Bailey Posey of Morgantown and Parker Posey of Buckhannon and a niece, Vicki Ervin and husband Jim of French Creek, WV. Mrs. Posey was a homemaker. Friends will be received Wednesday, January 6, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels and the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery at Hinkleville, WV. Donovan Clinton Phillips
Donovan Clinton Phillips, age 70 of Walkersville, MD died unexpectedly on Friday, January 8, 2010. He was born August 9, 1939 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Clinton and Madaline Smith Phillips. On March 12, 1989 he married Connie J. Houser-Gay who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Ronald Reeder-Phillips of Wooster, OH, Donald Wayne Phillips and wife Amber, Todd Phillips and companion Dee Dee and Jonovan Phillips and wife Angi all of Wooster; three step daughters, Kellie Leadore and husband Ronald of Woodsboro, MD, Melisa Jones and Angela Bartos and husband Joe all of Walkersville; grandchildren, Brian Phillips of Buckhannon, Cierra and Gavin Phillips, Jessica and Curtis Reeder all of Wooster, Ashton and Alexandra Damelio and Kyle Reece all of Frederick, MD, Noah, Rylie and Andrew Leadore all of Woodsboro and Carlie Bartos of Walkersville; great-grandson, Cameron Reeder of Wooster; two brothers, Autry Phillips and wife Grace and Rodney Phillips all of Buckhannon and two sisters, Carolyn Grove and husband Weldon and Brenda Shannon all of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by twin infant daughters, Janet and Janice Phillips and a step son, Ronnie Spanky Gay. Mr. Phillips retired from Moore Business Forms with 30 years of service, also retired from American General Life Insurance Company in Clarksburg, WV and Hagerstown, MD. He was currently employed by Maryland Judiciary Court in Rockville, MD as a District Court Clerk II. He was a member of the Redeeming River Church in Woodbine, MD where he served as overseer of Mens Ministry and Mens Sunday School. He was a licensed minister and has served the Lord in many different areas including a Mission Trip to Haiti. He was a devout Christian for 30 years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. Friends will be received Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Winona Joan Poling
Winona Joan Poling, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at her home. She was born on February 18, 1916, a daughter of the late Earnest and Maude Smith Davis. On February 18, 1933 she married Jesse E. Poling who preceded her in death on June 5, 1989. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Albi Poling; one daughter, Elberta Anderson; one sister, Alice Davis and two brothers, Norval and Walter Davis. She is survived by one son, Jesse Poling, Jr. and wife Susan of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two daughters, Helen Kimball and husband Lee of Fresno, OH and Ruth Spellman and husband Warren of Clarksburg, WV; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Delphia Harris of Clarksburg, and Mertha Richardson of Springfield, VA; one brother, Lewis Davis and wife Lena of Clarksburg and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Poling was a homemaker and a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and the AARP. Friends will be received Wednesday, February 10, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Joseph Shreve officiating. Burial will follow at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dell, WV. Howard D. Poling
Howard D. Poling, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, April 2, 2010 at his home. He was born March 11, 1924 in Cubana, WV, a son of the late Herbert and Hazel Simmons Poling. On November 17, 1946 he married Joanna Mills who preceded him in death on December 4, 1985. In addition to his parents and 1st wife, he was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Susie Douglas Poling who died in August 2003; two brothers, Wilmer and Elmer Poling; one grandson, William Todd Herron; one granddaughter, Dawn Allyson Herron and two sons in law, Leonard Herron and Danny Manning. He is survived by three daughters, Deloris Harris of Buckhannon, Linda Manning of Raleigh, NC and Connie Williams and husband Eddie of Weston, WV; one son, Jeff Poling and wife Kim of Weston; four grandsons, Michael Herron, Brian Williams and Dustin Poling all of Weston and Danny Manning of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Deanna Benston of Pawleys Island, SC, Brandi Galiano and Ashley Heater both of Weston and Devan Heater of Glenville, WV; great grandsons, Caden, Stowe, Ethan, Jake, Kiefer and Caleb; great granddaughters, Emily, Avery, Chloe, Jordan and Brooklyn; four brothers, Lawrence Poling of Warren, OH, Arden Poling of Akron, OH, Rev. Robert Poling and Archie Poling both of Buckhannon and four sisters, Kathleen Bailey and Lucille Gillespie both of Niles, OH, Wilda Slaughter of Buckhannon and Freeda Murphy of Morgantown, WV. Mr. Poling was a custodian. He served in the US Navy during WW II from 1943-1946. He was a member of the Buckhannon Moose Lodge # 598. Friends will be received Monday, April 5, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Leona Gray Pugh
Leona Gray Pugh, age 68, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born December 1, 1944 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Virgil and Brenice Helmick Davidson. On July 10, 1963 she married Willard F. Pugh who preceded her in death on August 26, 1976. She is survived by two sons, James Stanley Pugh and wife Rebecca of Rock Cave, WV and Teddy R. Pugh of French Creek, WV four grandsons, Justin and Alex Pugh both of Kesling Mill, WV and Corbin and Login Pugh both of Rock Cave, WV; three brothers, James Davidson of Salem, WV, Gerry Davidson of Denver, CO and Edward Davidson of Buckhannon and four sisters, Helen Samples and Betty Pitcock both of Buckhannon, Louise Hull of Rock Cave and Opal Cunningham of Bridgeport, WV. Mrs. Pugh was a homemaker. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663 Ladies Aux. Friends will be received Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Unger officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Cave Cemetery in Rock Cave. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church or the Ladies Aux. of the VFW.
