Nora June Patterson

Nora June Patterson, 84, known by her friends and family as June or Granny passed away peacefully on November 29, 2010. She was born in Ivanhoe, WV on March 4, 1926, a daughter of the late Tom and Opal Eskew Teets. On August 31, 1945 she married Earl J. Patterson, who preceded her in death on June 12, 1979. Also preceding her in death were her siblings; Ester Adams, Kathleen Tod Kohli, Darrell Teets and Ada Mae Riley. She was the last surviving member of her family. Surviving are daughter Carolyn Vassar and husband, Jim of Kearneysville, WV and son Kevin Patterson and wife, Molly of Buckhannon; two granddaughters; Vannessa Vassar-Bush and husband, Chris of Pittsburgh, PA and Michelle Vassar of Williamsburg, VA; two grandsons, Christopher Patterson and wife Caity of Buckhannon and Casey Patterson, also of Buckhannon. She had one great granddaughter, McKenna Bush of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. June attended Tennerton United Methodist Church and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, having lunch at the Senior Center, yard sales, and playing many games of bingo through the years. She had been a Sales Clerk at Straders and the H-P Store in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated for the Tennerton United Methodist Church or the Upshur County Senior Center. Visitation will be at Poling St. Clair on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 2-4 and 5-8 PM with the Rev. Jeff Zickefoose officiating. A funeral service will be held 10 AM at Poling St. Clair on Thursday, December 2, 2010 with the Rev. Jeff Zickefoose officiating. Burial will follow at the Hampton Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Loreen Reeder Phillips

Loreen Reeder Phillips, 107, died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital Nursing Care Facility in Buckhannon, WV. She was born January 22, 1900, in Jane Lew, WV, the daughter of the late W. H. Gaston and Ida Mae Lawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Reeder; second husband, Dr. Edwin M. Phillips; an infant daughter; a step daughter and four brothers. Surviving are a sister, Virginia Gemmill of Buckhannon; a daughter, Ruth Reeder Myers of Buckhannon; a grandson, Tim Myers and wife Peggy of Athens, OH; a granddaughter, Terri Myers Willaford of Mechanicsville, VA; five great grandchildren, Bryan Myers of Athens, Bonnie Myers of El Centro, CA, Laurie Myers of Athens, Christian Willaford of Mechanicsville and Nathan Willaford of Mechanicsville; two step sons, Edward W. Phillips and wife Nancy L. of Leesburg, FL and Neil R. Phillips and wife Audrey J. of Burgettstown, PA; a step daughter, Nancy J. Martin and husband, Donald W. of Burgettstown; fourteen step grandchildren; twenty-seven step great grandchildren and two step great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Buckhannon High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. She was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She was very active in the Methodist Church and the Emeritus Club of WVWC. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Gaston Wholesale Grocery. Friends will be received from 10-11 AM, Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 AM at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Stackpole and the Rev. Harold Elmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

'Macie' Maurine Maxson Post

'Macie' Maurine Maxson Post, age 87, of the Hall Rd., Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Compassionate Care Home in Buckhannon, WV under the care of St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice. She was born January 14, 1919 at Heavner Grove, WV a daughter of the late Lyda and Ella Napier Maxson. In November of 1935 she married Everett B. Post who preceded her in death April 19, 1981. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold Maxson; two sisters, Virginia Auskings and Melva Wood; one granddaughter, Kimberly Lou Post; one grandson, Steven Chip Post; and one son-in-law, Joe Yeager. She is survived by one daughter, Betty Post Yeager of Buckhannon; two sons, Everett Post & wife Wilma of Buckhannon and Steve Post & wife Rena of Inwood, WV; one sister, Marjorie Boyce of Clarksburg, WV; three granddaughters, Carmela Miller & husband Mike of Buckhannon, Sharon Clevenger & husband Sid of Corry, PA and Amey Watts & husband Kevin of Gadsen AL; two grandsons John Post & wife Rebecca of Clarksburg, WV and P.J. Wright & wife Pam of Peeltree, WV; five great grandsons, K.P. Robinson & wife Jade of Iowa, Cameron and Tanner Miller of Buckhannon, Dustin Post of Clarksburg, WV, and Stephen Wright of Fairmont, WV; three great granddaughters, Isabel Maurine Watts of Gadsen, AL, Elizabeth Post of Inwood, WV, and Breanna Wright of Peeltree, WV; one great grandson K.P. Robinson III of Iowa; Special friends, Frank White, Rena White, Sue White and Mae-Ellen Bailey for their loving care. Mrs. Post was a retired Note Teller for the American Security and Trust in Washington DC, she attended the Way Of Holiness Church, was a member of the Teter CEOS where she was president for many years, Elizabeth Zane Chapter DAR and Chapter #18 Order Eastern Star. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, Monday, October, 16 2006 from 4-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held 11AM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Shirley Ortega

Shirley Ortega, age 61, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at her home. She was born October 11, 1945 in Buckhannon, a daughter of Pauline Morrison Campbell of Upshur County, WV and the late George Anton Kowalkoski. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ortega and two sons, Patrick Scott Walker and Shawn David Walker. In addition to her mother she is survived by one son, Tim Walker of Buckhannon; one daughter, Laurie Walker of Buckhannon; two brothers, George and Mike Kowalkoski and three sisters, Debbie, Theresa and Kimberly Kowalkoski. Shirley was a homemaker. Her hobbies were arts and crafts and fishing. She was a Methodist by faith. Private Family Services will be held. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

William 'Bill' Ours

William 'Bill' Ours, age 72, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at his home under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg, WV. He was born November 29, 1934 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Willie and Ethel Wilfong Ours. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Greene. He is survived by his wife, Mary Eleanor Strader. One son, William George Ours of Santa Clarita, CA;one daughter, Kathryn Lynn Ours of Myrtle Beach, SC; and three sisters, Grace Allman of Lantana, FL, Betty Rollins and husband Clifford of Palm City, FL and Ruthalee Napoli and husband Phillip of West Chester, OH. Mr. Ours was the Owner and Operator of Straders, Inc. in Buckhannon and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, February 2, 2007 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Peoples Hospice or St. Joseph's Hospice. Evid Miller

Evid Miller, age 98, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at his home. He was born February 3, 1909 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Lloyd Washington and Lucy Clyde Riggs Miller. On December 16, 1927 he married Juanita Westfall who preceded him in death on April 23, 2000. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Geraldine Fullerton; two sisters, Mary Goodwin and Edna Miller and five brothers, Delbert, Curtis, Bill, Ray and Roy Miller. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Rexroad of Buckhannon and Sue Phillips of French Creek, WV; two sons, Eugene E. Miller of Buckhannon and ONeal Miller of Buckhannon; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Miller was a coal miner and steel worker. He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. Friends will be received Tuesday, May 22, 2007 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery in Hampton, WV. Bobby W. Mills

Bobby W. Mills, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice of Buckhannon. He was born October 20, 1928 at Sand Run, WV, a son of the late Loren McKinley and Trecie Tenney Mills. On May 24, 1951 he married Frances I. Montgomery, who survives. Also surviving are, two daughters, Sharon Posey of Harrisonburg, VA and Donna Phillips and husband Dennis of Buckhannon; three sons, Bruce Mills and wife Pam of St. Maries, ID, Gary Mills of Buckhannon and Alan Mills and wife Carrie of Buckhannon; ten grandchildren; two step grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren and one sister, Zelma Tallman of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Richard Mills and two granddaughters, Sarah and Julia Phillips. Mr. Mills was a coal miner, a Methodist by faith and a member of Middle Fork Lodge # 248 I.O.O.F of Sand Run. Friends will be received from 5-8 PM, Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Mr. Mills will lie-in-state Sunday from 1-2 PM, the funeral hour, at the Nays Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Tallman and the Rev. Doug Tallman will officiate. Forman Andrew Morrison

Forman Andrew Morrison, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV the Teter Community, died Friday, November 10, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born September 9, 1922 in Hall, WV, a son of the late John Arkansas Morrison and Mamie Miranda Bennett Morrison Streets. On October 16, 1948 he married Margaret Irene Brown Smarr Morrison who preceded him in death on March 21, 1982. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two step sons, Vaden Kenneth Smarr and Gary Gene Smarr; one sister, Ruth Morrison and twin brother, Freeman K. Morrison. He is survived by four daughters, Betty Ann Barker and husband Scott, Karen Zorik and husband John, Sylvia Rowan and husband Steven and Joyce Lynn Carpenter and husband David all of Buckhannon; two sons, Johnny A. Morrison and Forman Ray Morrison both of Buckhannon; three step daughters, Margaret Bennett of Buckhannon, Helen Curkendall of Myrtle Beach, SC and Vera Bennett and husband Bill of Buckhannon; one sister, Eva Fox of Hampton, VA; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Cunningham of Century, WV; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Morrison was a coal miner and a member of Reger United Methodist Church at Murphys Station, WV. Friends will be received Sunday, November 12, 2006 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Virgil S. Linger, Sr.

Cortland Virgil S. Linger, Sr., 87, died Friday, June 1, 2007 at his home. He was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Queens, WV, the son of Bertie Rollins Linger and Anna Jane Linger. Mr. Linger was a graduate of Buckhannon High School and was a Corporal in the United States Army Air Force during WWII. He was a carpenter for over 30 years and worked at Packard Electric prior to his retirement in 1982. Mr. Linger was a master clockmaker, fashioning clock works and decorative cases from mantle clocks to grandfather clocks. He was commissioned to make several clocks as presentation pieces, one of which was presented to Ross Perot. He was noted for his ability to repair antique clocks. He also enjoyed music and playing his organs, keyboards and stringed instruments. He was an active member of the Warren Keynotes Organ Club. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Claricie B. Linger, whom he married Mar. 23, 1940. Other survivors include two sons, Virgil S. (Susan) Linger, Jr. of North Canton and Rodney (Jane) Linger of Cortland, four grandsons, two great-granddaughters, and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Carolyn Lee, a great-grandson, two great-granddaughters, three brothers Ross, Otis, and Dwight Linger, and a sister Verla Davis. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007 at the Cortland Church of the Nazarene, 293 E. Main St. in Cortland, where calling hours will be from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Mt. Union Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV, following a service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St. in Buckhannon, WV, where calling hours will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Forum Health Hospice, 8747 Squires Lane NE, Warren, OH 44484 or Cortland Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements are being handled by Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home.

George William Knepshield

George William Knepshield, age 88, of Elkins, WV, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Colonial Place in Elkins. He was born October 4, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA. On May 3, 1941 he married Anna Dean Urquhart who survives. Also surviving are on daughter, Dean Harris and husband James of Elkins; one son, Robert Knepshield and wife Beverly of Elizabeth, CO; three grandsons, Michale Pritchard of Chilton, WI, Matthew Pritchard of Philadelphia, PA and Shane Knepshield of Denver, CO; two granddaughters, Traci Walker of Frankfort, KY and Kari Knepshield of Denver; three great grandsons, Avery Pritchard of Chilton, Jax Pritchard of Chilton and Tyrone Walker of Frankfort; two great granddaughters, Shayla Walker of Frankfort and Addie Pritchard of Chilton and one sister, Jean Goggin of Pittsburgh. Mr. Knepshield served with the US Army during WW II, was an engineer for Eichleay Engineering, a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Upper St. Clair of PA and a member of the Duquesne Club. At the request of Mr. Knepshield his body will be cremated and there will be no services. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association or Mountain Hospice of Elkins. Kermit A. Karickhoff

Kermit A. Karickhoff, age 84 of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, June 13, 2007 at Holbrook's Nursing Home. He was born on January 25, 1923 at Pecks Run; a son of the late Denzil W. and Constance (Merrills) Karickhoff. He is survived by his wife Edna Bauserman Karickhoff who survives. Also surviving two daughters; Judith Harris and husband Roger of Jane Lew, WV and Rebecca Tokarcik of Martinsburg, WV; two sons, Charles Rexroad and wife Jo Carol of Lynn Haven, FL and David Michael Rexroad and wife Patty of Jacksonville, FL; one grandson, Christopher Harris of Jane Lew; three step-daughters Belinda Tinney, and husband James of Berlin, WV, Sue Marsh of Buckhannon, and Vickie Bauserman of California, and one step-son, Charles Nesbitt of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Watkins Karickhoff; three brothers, Orton Ralph, Elliot Cuffy, and Joseph Frank Karickhoff; one step-grandson Jason Nesbitt; and one granddaughter, Donna Rexroad. Mr. Karickhoff was a welder for Hart Brothers Machine Co. and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Friends will be received from 4-8 PM Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Sterneman officiating. Burial will follow at the Floral Hill Memorial Gardens, Glen Dale, WV. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Raymond W. Kiser

Raymond W. Kiser, age 88 of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born July 31, 1918 at Franklin, WV a son of the late William Hampton and Margaret Johnson (Kee) Kiser. On October 8, 1941 he married Bula Brady Kiser who survives. Also surviving are three daughters; Saundra Sheahan of Spartanburg, SC, Suzanne Haas of Buckhannon, Cheryl Brown and husband Ted of Pulaski, TN; two sons, William Bill Kiser, Jr. and wife Ruth of Keyser, WV and Robert Bob Kiser of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Susan Covault of Indianapolis, IN, Johanna Haas & husband Shae Davidson of Bloomington, IL and Summer Kiser of Buckhannon; eight grandsons, William Matt Haas of Portland, OR, Jeremiah Kiser of Keyser, Matthew Kiser of Keyser, Michael Kiser & wife April of Keyser, Robert Kiser & wife Ona of Buckhannon, Ted Brown & wife Stephanie of Hoover, AL, Tyler Brown of Pulaski and Brian Van Meter and wife Sarah of Keyser; four great-grandsons, Trevor Kiser of Buckhannon, Gabriel Kiser of Keyser, William Michael Brown of Hoover, AL and Shean Van Meter of Keyser; four great-granddaughters, Alaina Kiser of Keyser, Sabrina Van Meter of Keyser, Tiffany Van Meter of Keyser and Brittany Van Meter of Keyser; three sisters, Marie Simpson of Clarksburg, WV, Virginia Weaver of Richmond, VA and Rachel Ruddle & husband Billy of Arlington, VA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Rush, Pendleton Tony and Watson Kiser and three sisters, Sue Smith, Eunice Bible and Martha Lee Varner. Mr. Kiser was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon. He was retired from West Virginia Wesleyan College where he was Director of Admissions and Director of Financial Aid. Mr. Kiser was a World War II veteran serving in U.S. Naval Aviation for 5 years. He served on the Battleship the USS Washington. He received the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 4-8 PM. Funeral service will be held 1 PM Sunday, May 13, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon with the Rev. Dr. Damon Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion and DAV Chapters #5 & 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Ima Jean Kelley

Ima Jean Kelley, age 75, of Tallmansville, WV died Monday, February 26, 2007 at her home. She was born October 31, 1931 in Tallmansville, a daughter of the late John and Bessie Tenney Hamilton. On February 4, 1956 she married Lloyd Kelley who preceded her in death on October 22, 2006. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Francis Hamilton, Edith Pugh and Margaret Kimble. She is survived by two sons, Don Hamilton and wife Brenda of Ellamore, WV and Kenneth Kelley and wife Kay of Buckhannon; four daughters, Judy Gray of Buckhannon, Connie Zickefoose of Elkins, WV, Pam Moran and husband William of Romney, WV and Carrie Zickefoose of Volga, WV; one sister, Betty Gooden of Alexandria, VA and eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kelley was a homemaker and a member of the Ten Mile Baptist Church. Friends will be received Wednesday, February 28, 2007 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Michael George officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Cemetery at Tallmansville. Dorothy Lee Kelley

Dorothy Lee Kelley, age 75, of Mansfield Place in Philippi, WV died Friday, February 16, 2007 at Mansfield Place under the care of Mountain Hospice of Belington, WV. She was born October 18, 1931 in Lewis County, WV, a daughter of the late Brant and Elsie Duell Smith. In August of 1962 she married Jesse D. Kelley who preceded her in death on March 10, 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Black. She is survived by one son, Donald Kelley of Buckhannon, WV; two daughters, Debra Smith of Weston, WV and Brenda Louk of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Johnathon Smith of Rimersburg, PA, Russ Louk of Braden, FL and Tony Louk of Buckhannon and two granddaughters, Misty Guth of Elkins, WV and Candace Mackey of Charleston, WV. Mrs. Kelley was a homemaker. Friends will be received Monday, February 19, 2007 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery at Hampton, WV. Opal Lucille Lee

Opal Lucille Lee, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at her home while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. She was born March 10, 1918 in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Columbus and Laura Simmons Crites. On August 14, 1937 she married Rev. Owen M. Lee who survives. Also surviving are seven sons, Kenneth Lee and wife Hellen of Buckhannon, Dale Lee and wife Jean of Belington, WV, David Lee and wife Kitty of Elkins, WV, Wayne Lee and Fiance Patty of Buckhannon, Jerry Lee and wife Barbara of French Creek, WV, Ronald Lee of Buckhannon and Stephen Lee and Fiance Angie of Buckhannon; six daughters, Eloise Tenney and husband Eldon of Buckhannon, Joann Bleigh and husband Denzil of Buckhannon, Mary Johnson and husband Jim of Hillsboro, WV, Linda Haller and husband Buck of Elkins, Evelyn Utt and husband Carroll of Morgantown, WV and Patricia Deusenberry of Elkins; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Hoy, Herman, Denzil and Hall Crites; two sisters, Tressie Woodard and Vada Miller and one grandson, Ronald Ray Simmons, II. Mrs. Lee was a homemaker and attended Buckhannon Union Mission Church. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Saturday, March 24, 2007 from 5-8 PM. She will lie-in-state at the Buckhannon Union Mission Church, Sunday, from 1-2 PM, the funeral hour, with the Rev. Dennis Estes officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee Cemetery at Kanawha Head, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
