Allen Bruce Williams
Allen Bruce Williams, 57, of Elkhart, IN., passed away Saturday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2010 at his residence. Allen was born on Aug. 18, 1952 in Buckhannon, WV. a son of the late Edward Ray and Mary F. (Chipps) Williams. He is survived by his wife Charlene D. Bancroft-Williams of Elkhart, a son, Donald (Heither) Williams of Monroe City, MO., and 3 granddaughters Kayla, Karena and Kendra Williams at home. Brothers, Jerry Williams of Elkhart and Rev. Michael (Sherry) Williams of Princeton, WV, and his sisters Rose (Thomas) Watson and Barbara (Robert) Homewood both of Elkhart. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Larry R. and David G. Williams. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, WV where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. His brother, the Rev. Michael Williams will officiate with burial to follow at Mt. Nebo Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lurene E. Tenney
Lurene E. Tenney, 93, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at her residence in Bristolville, Ohio. She was born January 4, 1916 in Queens, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Freeman Zickefoose and the late Mary Johns Zickefoose. Lurene worked for Cortland Quality Care Nursing Home, but her most important job was raising her family and working as a homemaker. She attended the Bristolville Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, baking, listening to gospel music, & most of all, spending time with her family. Her husband, Russell Tenney, whom she married on June 30, 1934, preceded her in death on April 14, 1963. Lurene is survived by her son, E.J. (Peggy) Tenney of Monroeville, AL, Eugene (Renate) Tenney of Mecca, OH, and Michael Tenney of Bristolville, OH; daughters, Helen Carnahan of Leavittsburg, OH, Frances (Ivan) McMillen of Bradenton, FL, Barbara Fairchild of Cortland, OH, Joyce Hunt of Niles, OH, and Judith Shipman of Bristolville, OH; brother, Willard Zickefoose of Clarksburg, WV; sisters, Donice Tenney of Buckhannon, WV, Joann Maher of Bristolville, OH, and Annabell Hoover of Tallmansville, WV; also surviving are 45 grandchildren, 84 great grandchildren, and 71 great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband: Russell Tenney, two daughters: Grace Lloyd & Carylon Riportella; a son: Robert Tenney; 4 grandchildren: Vicki Tenney, Richard Maher, Richard Tenney, and Joan Williams; 3 brothers: Harold, Elmer, & George Zickefoose; and 1 sister: Kathleen Carpenter. Friends will be received Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 5-7 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. She will lie in state on Thursday, June 11th from 10-11 AM at the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church at Hemlock, WV. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM with Pastor Holly J. Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Material contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in her memory. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Taylor
Ruth Taylor, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV retired to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, February 24, 2007. She was born November 5, 1913 in Queens, WV, a daughter of the late Albert C. and A. Lelah Hoover Wamsley. On October 4, 1937 she married Rev. Don. C. Taylor who preceded her in death on June 20, 1958. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Simon, Morris and Doyle Wamsley. She is survived by one daughter, Ruthine Gee and husband Lee D. Jr. of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Keturah Frye and husband Ron of Buckhannon and Lelah Heater and husband Robbie of Buckhannon; great-grandchildren, Corey, Shane, Kari, Sean, Taylor, Nikki, Darren and Rashelle, all of Buckhannon; one sister, Mescal Pugh of Buckhannon; two sisters-in-law, Stella Wamsley of Elkins, WV and Maxine Wamsley of Tallmansville, WV; one brother-in-law, Col. C.R. Dorsey and wife Helen of Virginia Beach, VA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of kind and loving friends. Mrs. Taylor was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Buckhannon from 1958 until her health limited her activity, serving on several boards and committees through the years. She was a graduate of Upshur County High School, West Virginia Wesleyan College, and West Virginia University masters program in education. Mrs. Taylor taught in the Upshur County Schools for 21 years before retiring in 1978, but substituted for several years thereafter. She was active in the West Virginia Education Assoc., serving as a delegate to many state, regional and national meetings. Mrs. Taylor was very dedicated to her God, her Church and her family. Friends will be received Tuesday, February 27, 2007 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Damon Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon Scholarship Fund or the Upshur County Parish House in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elva Juanita Suder
Elva Juanita Suder, age 83, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, March 2, 2007 at her home under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg, WV. She was born August 13, 1923 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Arvel and Clara Lewis Shreve. On August 7, 1941 she married Omar Roy Suder who preceded her in death on July 5, 1995. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Moreland; one brother, Ormal Shreve and one sister, Wilma Westfall. She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Mae Hinzman of Buckhannon and Marlene Sue Gibson of Charlotte, NC; two sons, Russell Suder and wife Susan of Clarksburg and Omar Dale Suder of Beltsville, MD; one brother, Arvel Shreve, Jr. of Cleveland, OH; one sister, Laura (Toots) Bishop of Perris, CA; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Suder was a homemaker, a long time member of the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church and a member of the CEOS of Buckhannon. Friends will be received Monday, March 5, 2007 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mitch Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the United Home Health/Peoples Hospice, PO Box 1680, Clarksburg, WV 26302. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Hoy 'Junior' Wilfong
Hoy 'Junior' Wilfong of French Creek, WV, Died October 12, 2010. Junior was born September 11, 1945. He was the Son of Hoy and Wilda (Gillum) Wilfong. Junior is survived by two children, Christine Wilfong of Buckhannon and Joyce (John) Bowers of Parsons, a brother, Charles Wilfong, of Holly Grove, five sisters, Josephine Smith of French Creek, Jean Corbin of Naples FL., Loverna (Benny) Campbell of Stonewood, Linda Wilfong of Chidester, AR and Madeline Barrett and husband James of Mauk, GA and four grandchildren, Katelynn Bowers of Parsons, Anna, Marzell, & Derrick Collins of Buckhannon, WV. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings, Irene Wilfong, Maxine Wilfong, James Wilfong, Marie Murphy, Arnetta Chance, & Annetta Powers. Junior retired from Corhart Refractory as a press operator in 2009. He served in the US Army from 1965 to 1971. There will be no memorial service and Junior will be laid to rest privately and quietly among family.

Kenneth Thornhill
Kenneth Thornhill, 89, of the Deanville community, passed away Wednesday, July 8th, 2009. Ken was born on May 10th, 1920 in Gainsboro, Lincolnshire, England to Wilfred and Ada Annie Thornhill. Ken was the last remaining member of his immediate family, being preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Wilda Irene (Dawson) Thornhill; his brothers, Raymond Clifford and wife Sadie, William James and wife Morag (who survives), and Herman Bill Thornhill; his sister Kathy Kathy Kay Thornhill McCulloch and her husband Archie; also a grand-nephew, Andrew Roth. He is survived by his nephews Ken McCulloch and wife Amanda, Stewart McCulloch and wife Jan of Great Britain, Donald McCulloch and wife Suzanne of France, Ronald Roth and wife Connie, Neil Roth and wife Susan, Ralph Dawson and wife Loretta, all of Buckhannon, Richard Dawson of California, Lynn Dawson of Texas, and nieces June Britton of Elkins and Janet Sue Voss of California, and many grand nieces and nephews. Although Ken was born in Lincolnshire, his family moved to London shortly after his birth. In 1940 Ken was called for military service with the Royal Air Force and was sent to Raipur, India. He completed his service in 1946 and returned home. In 1947 Ken sailed to America aboard the Queen Mary -- not as a passenger, but as a stowaway, so great was his desire to become an American citizen. His first job in America was at the Empire State Building working for the Longchamps Restaurant. In the summer of 1948 he moved to New Hampshire to work at Camp Robin Hood teaching children archery, riflery, and theatre. During the years 1948-1950 Ken spent his summer teaching at Camp Robin Hood and his winters working in New York City. In 1950 Ken moved to Hollywood Florida, where he met and soon thereafter married Wilda Irene Dawson on March 28, 1951. The couple decided to return to Wildas hometown of Buckhannon in 1952, where they resided for the remainder of their lives. Ken and Wilda built the Hillbillie Supermarket in Deanville in the 1960s. They created the name by combining Hill from Thornhill and Billie from the unique spelling of Wildas nickname. Besides running a successful business, Ken was very active in local theatre productions. He co-directed The Music Man with Jim Knorr; starred in productions of the Gilbert and Sullivan musicals Mikado, HMS Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, and Dessert Song. Ken also starred in Buckhannon Community Theatres productions of Annie Get Your Gun, Brigadoon, Oliver, Finians Rainbow, and A Christmas Carol. Ken directed five Strawberry Festival productions and the Strawberry Festival Queens Coronation ceremonies. Ken received a degree from The School of Hard Knocks in the 1990s. presented to him by Alderson-Broaddus College. Ken spent the first sixteen years of his retirement totally devoted to the care of his wife Wilda who fell ill to Alzheimers Disease. Following her death in January 2000, he busied himself with caring for his home, loving to mow grass and feed the birds and deer in his yard; and enjoying weekly trips to town and an occasional musical production by the Arts community. He especially enjoyed visits and phone conversations with all his friends, especially special friends Kay and Ron Hurst, Jane Slaughter, Frank and Jane Williams, Alan Neal, and Jim and Judy Knorr. Kens presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Monday, July 13, 2009 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the funeral home with Minister Alan Neal. Burial will follow in the Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery. Helen J. Linger Strader
Helen J. Linger Strader, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, April 30, 2007 at her home. She was born April 13, 1929 at Gould, WV, a daughter of the late George B. and Dessie Browning Lane. On June 14, 1997 she married Noel Strader who preceded her in death on February 15, 1999. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Richard Lee Linger; one granddaughter, Beth Megan McCarthy and three brothers, Oran, Herman and Virgil Lane. Mrs. Strader is survived by two daughters, Kathy McCarthy of Buckhannon and Debra Hinchman and husband Tom of Buckhannon; two sons, Gary Linger and wife Susan of Mystic, CT and Steve Linger and wife Roseann of Buckhannon; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a member of the Good Hope Tabernacle Church and Floral Rebekah Lodge # 183. Friends will be received Thursday, May 3, 2007 from 4-6 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 4 at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery at Hinkleville. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Collene J. Tenney
Collene J. Tenney, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Talbotts Personal Care in Belington, WV. She was born September 11, 1928 in Cassidy, WV, a son of the late Rudolph and Ina Osburn Miller. On June 5, 1946 she married Myron D. Tenney who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Dennis Leo Tenney and wife Chrystalyn of Greenwood, SC, Eugene Tenney and wife Arawana of Buckhannon and William Paul Tenney and wife Connie of Buckhannon; one grandson, Robert Paul Tenney of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Lisa McCullough and husband Eric of Clarksburg, WV and Bridget Walker and husband Sean of Chengdu, China; three great-granddaughters, Ashley McCullough, Lydia and Rachel Walker and one great-grandson, Ethan Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Alverta Lamb and Cleo Brown. Mrs. Tenney was a homemaker and a member of Nays Chapel. Friends will be received Wednesday, October 4, 2006 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Walter E. Stalnaker
Walter E. Stalnaker, age 82, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, August 23, 2007 at his home. He was born July 10, 1925 in Braxton County, WV, a son of the late William Frederick and Lida King Stalnaker. He is survived by his wife, Delmeth Ruth Goodwin, whom he married in 1952; one brother, George Stalnaker of Youngstown, OH and three sisters, Jean Strader of Orlando, WV, Shirley Porter of Hubbard, OH and Vickie Hill of Clarksburg, WV. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Joe and Jim Stalnaker and one sister, Ruth Murphy. Mr. Stalnaker was a steel worker. He retired from US Steel after 35 years of service. He also was an avid truck driver, which he loved to do. He was a Veteran of WW II. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Monday, August 27, 2007 from 12 noon until 1:00 PM the funeral hour with Ronald Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery at Shinnston, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dencie Turner
Dencie Evelyn Turner, 89 of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at her home. She was born October 19, 1917 a daughter of the late John Jackson and Grace Catherine (Ratcliff) Greathouse. On January 7, 1943 she married Warren L. Turner who preceded her in death on July 29, 1994. She is survived by three daughters, Sylvia Turner Ghaznavi of Buckhannon, Blanche Branton and husband Tim of New York, and Mary Ann Cutright and husband David of Buckhannon; two sons John Turner and wife Kathy of Buckhannon and Donald Turner and wife Brenda of Morgantown, WV; ten grandsons Ahmad Ghaznavi, Matthew Branton, Jeremy, David and Spencer Turner, Bill, Jason, and Joey Slaughter, Cody and Jacob Cutright; four granddaughter, Leila Ghaznavi; Jessica and Mariah Turner and Elizabeth Slaughter-Shipman; four great grandsons, Kaleb, Andrew Turner-Slaughter, Samuel Jang and William Ghaznavi; five great granddaughters, Kaitlin Turner-Slaughter, Shelby and Sidney Slaughter, Kalah Martin and Tess Ghaznavi and very special senior companions, Leta Davission, Buena Ulm, Rena Smith and Margaret Slaughter. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two daughters, Marilyn and Rebecca Turner and six sisters Vervel Hibbs, Thelma Reeder, Sylvia Casto and three infant sisters. Mrs. Turner and her husband were the owners and operators of Inter City Transport of Buckhannon. Denice had Alzheimers for the past several years but she so enjoyed the many visits from her friends, neighbors and club members. She was a member of the Elizabeth Zane Chapter of the DAR and was a Fifty year member of the Teter Farm Women's CEOs. Friends will be received Friday, March 23, 2007 from 4 8 pm at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow at the Buckhannon Memorial Park Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Lee Sowder
Dorothy Lee Sowder, age 85, of Buckhannon, WV, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born July 7, 1922 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late William L. and Bessie Jane Corathers Dowell. On July 7, 1944 at the Ft. Myers Chapel in Arlington, VA she married Robert Lee Sowder who preceded her in death on September 14, 1991. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael R. Ashley; three brothers, Meyers, Page and Keith Dowell and one sister, Nora Smith. She is survived by one son, Robert Lee Sowder, II of Buckhannon; one daughter, Roberta Ann Ashley and husband Mike of Woodstock, IL; one grandson, John Ashley and wife Kathryn of New York, NY; two brothers, Howard Dowell and James Dowell both of Buckhannon; one sister, Kathryn Goldsmith of Salem, WV and many nieces and nephews. At the time of her retirement Mrs. Sowder was a secretary for Fairfax County School Systems in Virginia. Friends will be received Saturday, November 10, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bradley Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in the Reger Chapel Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local American Diabetes Association in Dorothy's memory. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
