Donald Edwin Stackpole
Donald Edwin Stackpole, age 67, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born July 23, 1941 in Cambria, WV, a son of the late Lotus Ray and Vada Blye Cain Stackpole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar William and Howard Lee Stackpole. He is survived by two daughters, Angela Vance of Belington, WV and Brenda Mabry of Louisiana; four brothers, Curtis Stackpole of LaVerkin, UT, Wayne, Ronald Edward and Larry Kent Stackpole all of Buckhannon; three sisters, Wilma Cumbridge of Akron, OH, Barbara Ward of Anmore, WV and Darlene Moran of Buckhannon and four grandchildren. Mr. Stackpole was a coal miner and a Methodist by faith. Mr. Stackpole will be cremated and there will be no services. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Catherine Splash Williams
Catherine deGruyter Splash Williams, 83, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at Holbrooks Nursing Home in Buckhannon. She was born July 4, 1924, in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Julius Allen and Eleanor Dudley Smith deGruyter. She is survived by three sons: David and wife Beth, and granddaughter Joanne; Tim, and wife Debbie and grandchildren Nick and Haley; Danny and wife Dianne and grandchildren Brandon and Brittany, and daughter Tappan and husband Duwane Squires and grandchildren Katie, Will, Tim and Sammy all of Buckhannon. Also surviving are two sisters, Ann Sticklen of Jacksonville, FL (formerly of Charleston), and Betsy Rose of Charlotte, NC, and sister-in-law Joanne Williams Woods of Grand Rapids, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. David Williams, Jr., and her brother Allen Deak deGruyter of Houston, TX. Splash grew up in Charleston, WV, graduating from Charleston High School in 1942, attended Morris-Harvey College (now the University of Charleston), but later transferred to West Virginia University where she graduated with a degree in Physical Education, Health and Recreation in 1947. She taught in the Kanawha County Schools and continued to be active with the Girls Scouts of America. Splash received her nickname as a Water Front Director at her beloved Camp Ann Bailey. She married David Williams, Jr., from Morgantown, WV, in a red, white and blue ceremony on June 2, 1951. After residences in Elkins, Nutter Fort, Bridgeport, and Canton, OH, Splash and Dynamite Davean explosive expert with Atlas Powder Co.moved to Buckhannon in 1963. With the assistance of West Virginia Wesleyan College, Splash founded the Buckhannon-Wesleyan Swim Teams, and taught scores of swimmers during her coaching years of 1964-1996. She helped develop Wesleyans Womens Swimming in the late 1960s and taught Water Safety and Lifesaving courses as well as adult swim classes through the Upshur County Board of Education. In 1981, she entered the world of Masters Swimming, where she held national and international records, traveling across the US and Canada, and even to Australia in 1988. In 2005, Splash won three gold medals and a silver medal at the Summer National Senior Olympic Games in Pittsburgh, PA. Employed by the Upshur County Board of Education as a Reading Specialist, Splash helped high school students at all ability levels increase their reading speed, comprehension, and vocabulary. She also coached Girls Track, Basketball, and the Cheer Squad. After retirement, she remained active with Literacy Volunteers and at area grade schools reading with youngsters. Splash attended the First Presbyterian Church of Buckhannon for over 40 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, session member and elder, and received an Honorarium of Presbyterian Women. She was the first to receive the Outstanding Woman in Sports from the WV Womens Commission in 1985, was honored with the Rotarys Athena Award Woman of the Year in 1988, and received the Service Above Self Award from the Buckhannon Rotary Club in 1997. Splash was a member of the Professional Educators Association and a proud 50 year sister of the Chi Omega Sorority. Contributions may be made in Splashs honor to the Buckhannon Swim Club Splashers, c/o 28 Boggess Street, Buckhannon, WV. Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 12, from 2-5:00 pm and 7-9:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Buckhannon with the Rev. Jack Bohman officiating. Burial will follow at Heavner Cemetery. Delmeth Ruth Stalnaker
Delmeth Ruth Stalnaker, age 87, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Serenity Care Home. She was born February 15, 1921 in Tallmansville, WV. Mrs. Stalnaker worked for Firestone Aircraft in Akron, OH during WWII and later at US Steel in Youngstown, OH, where she meet her husband Walter E. Stalnaker who she married on August 3, 1952 and who preceded her in death on August 23, 2007. She was a daughter of the late Delmar and Ardelia Pulliam Goodwin. Her father Delmar was killed in a mining accident before her birth and she was raised by her stepfather, Elmer Waugaman. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and fabric painting. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, step-father and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Matthew, Mark and Luke Goodwin and Lawrence and Billy Ray Waugaman; two sisters, infant Lucille Goodwin and Gladys West. As she requested Mrs. Salnaker will be cremated and a memorial service will be held for her family and friends at a later date. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Nathan Shane Straight
Nathan Shane Straight, age 29 of Greensboro, NC died March 16, 2009 at his home. He was born on September 7, 1979 in Houston, TX a son of Ross Edward and Mary Martha Molly Stansbury Straight both of Buckhannon, WV. In addition to his parents he is survived by one brother Hans Joseph Straight and wife Alex of Morgantown, WV, maternal grandfather Robert James Stansbury of Buckhannon; paternal grandmother Leoma E. Straight of Chillicothe, OH; many cousins and many aunts and uncles. Nathan was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Gladys L. Stansbury; paternal grandfather, Charles Robert Bob Straight and an aunt Patricia E. Kubiet. He was the owner and operator of Empire Books in Greensboro. He was a great lover of books and literature, had an eclectic taste in music doing online reviews for music magazines and promotions in marketing for local bands, he was a great lover of animals doing volunteer work at several animal rescue shelters and performed volunteer work with inner city youth. Friends will be received Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 11 AM to 1:30 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. A graveside service will be held 2 PM on Saturday at the Stansbury Family Cemetery on Hickory Flat. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness at www.NAMI.org or Colonial Place 3, 2107 Wilson Blvd, Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22201. Maxine June Strader
Maxine June Strader, age 90, of Buckhannon, WV, the Mt. Carmel Community died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at her home. She was born June 25, 1918 at Gould, WV, a daughter of the late Robert and Myrtle Burr Hamner. On November 11, 1936 she married Harold I. Strader who preceded her in death on July 21, 1994. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Teddy Eugene Strader; seven brothers, Floyd, George, Dana, Joe, Paul, Lyle and Dick Hamner and four sisters, Ruby Waugh, Ava Clouser, Velma Grose and Evelyn Bunner. She is survived by one son, Jerry A. Strader and wife Greta of Weirton, WV; three daughters, Carol Burr and husband Bill of Weirton, Sandy K. McCartney and husband Stephen of Buckhannon and Robyn McCartney and husband Tom of Polk, OH; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Strader was a cook for the Upshur County school system and a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters Temple #134. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and reading and was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-9 PM, Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. She will lie in state from 10-11 AM, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church where funeral services will be held at 11 AM with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond Eugene Spore, Sr.
Raymond Eugene Spore, Sr., age 72, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital of Buckhannon. He was born September 15, 1936 in Gilmer County, WV a son of the late Virgil Lee and Ora Wilmoth Spore. On August 24, 1960 he married Violet Louise Anderson who preceded him in death on August 1, 2000. In addition to his parents and his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter, Violet Marie Spore; a granddaughter, Danielle Sheets and two sisters Reda Lowther and Mabel Ruth Lough. Mr. Spore is survived by a son, Raymond Eugene Spore, Jr. and girl friend, Lesa Scott of Buckhannon; two daughters, Tina Sheets and husband Danny of Rock Cave, WV and Meredith Dye and husband Gary of Akron, OH; four granddaughters, Whitney and Parthena Sheets of Rock Cave and Patience and Destiny Spore of Akron; three grandsons, Hezekiah Spore of Akron, Cody Hite of Akron and Andrew Wiant of Weston, WV; one great granddaughter, Gracelyn Sheets of Rock Cave; two sisters, Annabell Lipps and Virgie Landers both of Buckhannon; two brothers, Robert Lee Spore and Virgil J. Bud Spore both of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Patches. He was a maintenance engineer for A. Schulman Corporation, was a Pentacostal by faith and loved to hunt and fish. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Monday, June 29, 2009 from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Mary Campbell Sutton
Mary Campbell Sutton, age 73, of Buckhannon, WV, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She was born October 12, 1935 in Upshur County, WV a daughter of the late Daniel Elmer and Janice Emma Lewis Campbell. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Betty Kennedy. She is survived by one son, Allen Campbell of Morgantown, WV; one granddaughter, Rhiannon Campbell of St. Albans, WV; one sister, Irene Linger of Elkins, WV; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was retired from Moore Business Forms. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Poling. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. Guylow R. Snyder
Guylow R. Snyder, age 90, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Crestview Manor Jane Lew, WV. She was born July 19, 1919 in Upshur County, WV. a daughter of the late Beaulah Wentz. On June 1, 1974 she married Arden J. Snyder who preceded her in death December 23, 1990. Mrs. Snyder is survived by her cousin Donna Lee and husband James of Buckhannon and several other cousins. She was a seamstress and a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church, Rebekah Lodge and WSCS. Friends will be received Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 1-2 PM at the Sand Run Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in the Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Excelsior, WV. Emma L. Tenney
Emma L. Tenney, age 91, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at her home. She was born February 25, 1918 at Falls Mill, WV a daughter of the late Frantz and Luverna Cobb Veith. On October 15, 1941 she married James Arthur Tenney who preceded her in death on June 10, 1986. She is survived by one stepson Brady Tenney of Phoenix, AZ; one stepdaughter, Lillian Spurgeon of Morgantown, WV; 13 step grandchildren; one sister Naomi Harlow of Buckhannon; and many nieces, nephews and special friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four sisters Rosa Knicely, Vergie Hamilton, Nora Black and Ruth Martin and five brothers, Oliver, Okey, Ray, Fred and Grant Veith. Mrs. Tenney was a bookkeeper for the State of West Virginia and a member of the Sago Baptist Church in Sago, WV. Friends will be received Friday, October 16, 2009 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Charlotte Mayme Woody
Charlotte Mayme Woody, age 77, of Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, October 21, 2007 at her home while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. She was born October 8, 1930 in Alexander, WV a daughter of the late Odbert and Viola Depoy Curry. On December 1, 1950 she married Russell W. Woody who preceded her in death February, 3, 2006. Also preceding her in death was one sister, Evelyn Curry. She is survived by one daughter, Connie Diane Rice and husband Rick of Lost Creek, WV; one son, Steven W. Woody and wife Julia of Elkins, WV; three grandsons, Corey Woody, Shawn Woody both of Elkins, WV and Shad Rice of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Woody of Elkins, Heidi Rowan and husband Steve of Buckhannon and Holly Blatt and husband Ryan of Huntington, WV; one great grandson, Tristan Blatt of Huntington; one great granddaughter, Lainey Rowan of Buckhannon; one brother, Coleman Curry of Buckhannon; and two sisters, Marquerite Hefner of French Creek, WV and Rachel Meyer of Easley, SC; Mrs. Woody was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Fred Brooks Garden Club, Christmas Store Association and the United Methodist Women. Friends will be received at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Wednesday, October 24, 2007 from 4-9 PM. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday at the Chapel Hill United Methodist where she will lie in state from 10 AM until 11 AM the funeral hour, with the Rev. Gary Stackpole officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Chapel Hill United Methodist Womens Club in memory of Mayme Woody, 88 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, WV 26201. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Joan Stone
Joan Stone fought the fight, finished the course, kept the faith and arrived in the presence of God on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born August 9, 1932 in Buckhannon, WV, a daughter of the late Burl and Alice Wilson McCoy. On January 7, 1950 she married Paul L. Stone who preceded her in death on November 4, 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert C. McCoy. She is survived by three daughters, Tammy Lowther and husband Stan, Terry Hamner and husband Matt and Kelly Daugherty and husband Jim all of Buckhannon; one son, David Stone of Mauldin, SC; one granddaughter, Jina Lowther; three grandsons, Josh and Joel Lowther and Levi Daugherty; one sister, Linda Coughlin and husband Dave of Buckhannon; sister in law, Lois McCoy of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Joan was a homemaker and a member of the Living Word Church of God. She enjoyed gardening, painting and jewelry making. Her life revolved around her children and grandchildren but most of all serving the Lord. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church family. Friends will be received Saturday, October 31, 2009 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Sunday at the Living Word Church of God with the Rev. Frank Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Veterans Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
