Helen L. Shreve
Helen L. Shreve, age 77, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She was born August 31, 1931 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late William C. and Zuma O. Grubb Mills. On May 29, 1951 she married Robert M. Shreve who survives. Also, surviving are two daughters, Judy L. Metheney and husband Robert of Webster Springs, WV and Debra Summerfield and husband David of Atlanta, GA; one son, Terry Shreve and wife Karen of Grantsville, WV; four grandsons, Adam Radabaugh of Buckhannon, Travis Radabaugh of Atlanta, Clinton Radabaugh and wife Nicole of Buckhannon and Brent Metheney and wife Jody of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Kalyn Radabaugh of Buckhannon and Lora Lee Summerfield of Atlanta; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine DeBarr and husband Victor of Buckhannon and a niece, Beth Materne and husband Kevin of Buckhannon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Mills and two brothers, Billy and Bobby Mills. Mrs. Shreve was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a Baptist by faith. At her request, she will be cremated. In lieu of flowers contributions, may be made to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Maxine Sayre
Maxine Sayre, age 86, of Rock Cave, WV died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at her home. She was born February 26, 1922 in Rock Cave, a daughter of the late Emery and Cordie Phipps Reger. On January 25, 1939 she married Oscar W. Sayre who preceded her in death on March 26, 2005. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Kyle Sayre; one grandson, Kyle Neil Sayre; three brothers, Waldo, Ernie and Orvil Reger and one sister, Genevieve Bunner. She is survived by two granddaughters, Jane Rockey and husband Bill of Buckhannon and Beverly Metz and husband Mickey of Glenville, WV; two great-granddaughters, Crystal Metz of Glenville and Beth Dean and husband Matt of Bridgeport, WV; one great-grandson, Seth Rockey of Buckhannon; two brothers, Guy Bernell Reger and wife Oneita of Mansfield, OH and Loyal Reger and wife Tressie of Queen Anne, MD; three sisters, Madeline Hosaflook of Buckhannon, Goldie Tinsley of Scott Depot, WV and Ada Tenney and husband Paul of Canal Fulton, OH; two sisters in law, Mavedell Reger of Buckhannon and Leverne Reger of Rock Cave and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sayre was a homemaker and attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Friends will be received Friday, December 12, 2008 from 58 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday at the Pleasant Dale United Methodist Church in Selbyville, WV with the Rev. Junior Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Dale Church Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Clayton Tenney
Clayton Tenney, 81, of Abingdon, VA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Clayton was a long life craftsman of wood products specializing in rail fencing and cedar gates. He had vast knowledge of trees and plants and possessed a natural green thumb. He was the son of the late Murl and Lydia Tenney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janice Gooden Tenney and one son, Randall Tenney; two brothers, Arley Tenney and Letcher Tenney; one sister, Betty Jean Zickafoose and his beloved dog Tippy. He is survived by his children, Basil Tenney and wife Sharon of Meadowview, VA; Ivan Tenney and wife Diane of Buckhannon, WV; Leonard Tenney and wife Betty of Green Cove, VA; Sandra Thayer of Abingdon, VA; Sherry Parks and husband Bobby of Blountville, TN; Dexter Tenney and partner Neil Aycock of Charleston, SC; sisters, Rella Arbogast, Flossie "Babe" Lauderback, June Armstrong, Crissie Wamsley, and Glenda Thrift; grandchildren, Eric Tenney, Nikki Shell, April Atkins, Elisabeth Dooley, Stormi Tenney, Stephen Tenney, Brandon Tenney, Laura Hagerman, Ryan Parks, and Lydia Parks; nine great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Locally, the family will receive friends at Frost Funeral Home in Abingdon, VA from 6:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, February, 16, 2016. A funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Thursday, February, 18, 2016 at the Mt. Olive Union Methodist Church in Hemlock, WV with Pastor Leonard Tenney and Bro. Bobby Parks officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Union Methodist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Edward 'Charlie' Simmons, Jr.
Charles Edward 'Charlie' Simmons, Jr., age 54, of Philippi, WV died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at his home. He was born August 20, 1954 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Charles Edmiston and Jessie Mae Prince Simmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Gweth Smith, Clara Hyre and Lyndall Shreves and one half brother, Steve Fidler. He is survived by one son, Charles Edward Simmons, III and wife Beatrice Marie of Buckhannon; one sister, Ola Mae Parsons and husband Lindsey of Lanexa, VA; a half brother, Jim Fidler of Buckhannon; two nieces; two nephews; two great-nieces and three great-nephews. Charlie worked as a laborer and was a Christian by faith. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Saturday, December 20, 2008 from 11 AM to 1 PM the funeral hour with the Rev. Roger Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret 'Gene' Gaston Smega
Margaret 'Gene' Gaston Smega, 84, passed away peacefully early Christmas morning, December 25, 2008, at her home. Born December 16, 1924, she spent most of her life in her hometown of Buckhannon, W.Va., daughter of the late Gilbert E. Gaston and Clara Mader Gaston. In 1947 she married Stephen Joseph Smega, who preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Gaston Wolfe in 1953. Gene is survived by her daughters Ann Smega Bergstrom and husband Harry of Buckhannon, and Sherry Smega Esenwein and husband Todd of Annapolis, Md. She is also survived by grandsons Brian Bergstrom of Buckhannon, and Todd Bergstrom of Morgantown, W.Va. Surviving nieces and nephews include Gayle E. Jones of Philippi, Thomas G. Wolfe of Troy, Mich., and Carol L. Wolfe of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Jane Lament, of Phoenix, Ariz., and nephew Robert Lament, also of Phoenix; several aunts, uncles and cousins in Buckhannon; and special caregivers Sharon Hawkins, Trisha Phillips, Lynn Shaw, Debbie Sims, Cindy Burwell, and Judy Peck. As valedictorian of her Buckhannon-Upshur High School senior class, she went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from West Virginia Wesleyan College, majoring in biology, where she met her future husband Steve. Although she spent much of her adult life as a homemaker and mother, she also contributed to the work world as accountant for the family business, Buckhannon Milling Company. Gifted in math, she worked part-time for accountant Hoppy Hopkins and H&R Block during several tax seasons. During the 1960s, she and Steve opened the first drive-through car wash in Buckhannon. Always athletic, she was an avid swimmer, a horseback rider who competed in horse shows, and later became a passionate golfer, winning several country club championships. She loved animals and liked to breed and raise dogs and goldfish. Travel was also a joy, especially to the ocean and her cottage in Fort Myers Beach, Fla. Friends and family will be received Sunday, December 28, 2008, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ellis Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Heavener Cemetery in Buckhannon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Upshur County Humane Society or St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Andrew Smith
Thomas Andrew Smith, infant son of Harry Anderson of French Creek, WV and Karen S. Smith of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandfather, Rick Shreve of Buckhannon and maternal great-grandparents, Tom and Helen Smith of Buckhannon. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Vicky Landers. Private Graveside Services will be held. Burial in the Simpson Cemetery at Roanoke, WV. Frances Marie Sharpolisky
Frances Marie Sharpolisky, age 90, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at her home under the care of Peoples Hospice. She was born August 25, 1918 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Nathan Goff and Nellie Linger Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Sharpolisky; five sisters, Ruby Lewis, Nina Lewis, Avis Gould, Willa Wyatts and Elma Rosewell and two brothers, Jim and Don Lewis. She is survived by one son, J. Michael Sharpolisky and partner Mary Lou Borchert of Buckhannon; one daughter, Nancy Anderson and husband George of Port Republic, MD; two granddaughters, Kim Paddy and husband Maurice of Huntington, MD and Sheri McDonald and husband Jim of Solomons, MD; one grandson, Michael Anderson and wife Staci of Saint Leonard, MD; great grandchildren, Amanda Brooks, Christopher and Brianna Paddy, Megan and Chelsea Anderson; great-great grandchildren, Daniel and Madison Paddy; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Ethel Andrews. Mrs. Sharpolisky was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith. She was a 50 + member of the Ladies of the Moose and a member and past president of VFW Post # 3663 Ladies Aux. She attended Indian Camp Normal School and during WWII she worked in a factory in Baltimore, MD. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 from 1-2 PM with memorial services at 2 PM with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Ida Belle Tenney
Ida Belle Tenney, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born October 23, 1923 in Tallmansville, WV, a daughter of the late Virgil and Ora Belle Fox Ours. On June 22, 1940 she married Arnold Tenney who preceded her in death on December 2, 1994. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two grandsons, Christopher and Kevin Tenney; two sisters, Wilda and Izella Tenney and two brothers, Harold and Sanford Ours. She is survived by two sons, Gohen C. Tenney of Buckhannon, WV and Vernon Irvin Tenney and wife Barbara of Buckhannon; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Cussins and husband John of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Doug Tenney and wife Melissa of Buckhannon and Daniel Irvin Tenney of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Charlotte Tenney and husband Mark of Lexington, KY; four great-granddaughters, Julia C. Tenney of Buckhannon, Sarah Vance of Ellamore, Devan Tenney of Lexington and DeAnna Tenney of Lexington; two brothers, Noble Ours of Rittman, OH and Robert Ours of Buckhannon and two sisters, Betty Gifford of Buckhannon and Patty Mahan of TX. Mrs. Tenney was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and cooking. She was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovahs Witness. Friends will be received Saturday, November 28, 2009 from 1-2 PM the funeral hour with the Elder Arthur Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. Robert D. 'Dale' Smith
Robert D. 'Dale' Smith, age 80, of Baden, PA died Tuesday, February 10, 2009, after a battle with cancer. Born May 22, 1928, in Arlington, WV, he was a son of the late John and Dora (Westfall) Smith. A retiree from LTV Steel Corp., Dale loved music including playing and singing country music as a member of the Country Hoedown Band, who plays for round and square dancing. He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years, Doris J. (Riffle) Smith; two daughters, Linda Wood and her husband, Rev. John, of Venus, PA and Evelyn Dessler and her husband, Paul, of New Galilee; six grandchildren, Amy and Rachel Wood, and Samuel, Stephanie, Nicholas and Nathaniel Dessler and a sister, Lottie Smith of Akron, OH. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy, Glenn, John and Jesse and two sisters, Blanch and Freida. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Friday, February 13, 2009 from 9-10 AM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009, at 10 a.m. the funeral home. Vonda Ethel Simons
Vonda Ethel Simons, age 95, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, April 10, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born January 8, 1914 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late James A. and Allie Cutright Simons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Simons and three sisters, Viola Conner, Viona Haller and Virginia Gregory. She is survived by two brothers, Lester Simons of Horse Shoe, NC and James Simons of Buckhannon; three nieces, Joan H. Cramer of Silver Spring, MD, Thelma Summerfield of Elkins, WV and Marjorie Johnson of Martinsburg, WV and two nephews, Carl Haller of Elkins and James Gregory of Buckhannon. Ms. Simons was a seamstress for Reidboard Brothers and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Graveside services will be held 11 AM Monday, April 13, 2009 at the Heavner Cemetery with Pastor Rick Cutright officiating. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Loretta Omagene (Queen) Smith
Loretta Omagene (Queen) Smith, 74, of Akron, went home to her Lord on Easter Sunday April 12, 2009. She was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia and moved to Akron in 1955. Omagene had worked for South Akron Awning, Prinz Interiors, the Akron Masonic Temple, and was an active PTA member during her children's school years. Omagene was a faithful member of Celebration Church (formerly Evangel Temple) for over 50 years. From the mid 60s to 70s she was part of the Evangel Builders, a group of ladies who raised money for special church projects. For over 11 years, Omagene arrived early to prepare coffee and baskets of doughnut holes for Sunday school. She participated in the Pioneers of Faith seniors group and enjoyed luncheons and short trips with her friends. Omagene belonged to the Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club for 36 years, hiking over 5000 miles. She was the club president for two years and also hiked with Portage Trail Walkers and Canton Hilltop Hikers. In addition to being a loving and dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Omagene was a gracious and compassionate person who found great joy in people. For anyone in need, she was always there to love, help, and encourage. Preceded in death by her parents, Ovid and Ocie Queen and sister, Angeline Marple, she is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ralph Junior Smith; her devoted children, Ronald (Donna-Marie), Robin (Bruce Smyth), Lonnie (Nancy), Letitia (Gale Wells), Thomas (Teresa), and David (Rae-Jean); also by sisters, Geraldine Stump and Ernestine Stone; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-granddaughters; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and faithful friends. Calling hours are Tuesday, April 14 from 5 8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, and Wednesday, April 15 from 10 11 a.m. at Celebration Church, 688 Dan St., Akron where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Wade and Pastor John Beers officiating. Graveside services and interment will be on Friday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at the Reger Chapel Church Cemetery in Buckhannon, West Virginia. Randall Evans Tucker
RANDALL EVANS TUCKER, Born in Buckhannon, West Virginia to Randall Tucker and Juanita Tucker, and passed away on September 19, 2007 in Plano, Texas. Randall graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Culp Tucker; children, Stephen Randall Tucker and wife, Chelsea, and Dr. Christopher Culp Tucker, and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Corey Donavan Tucker, Alexis Paige Tucker, Mason Christopher Tucker, and Reid Stephen Tucker. Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Friday, September 21, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be at 4PM Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Restland Memorial Chapel.
