James P. Simon
James P. Simon, age 80, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born July 10, 1928 in Little Pecks Run, WV, a son of the late Philip A. and Freda Queen Simon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James P. Simon, II and one brother, Charles Chubb Simon. He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Waybright and husband Carl of Buckhannon and Deborah Wilson and husband Kevin of WV; four grandsons, Shawn Cutright and wife Rita of Buckhannon, Christopher Leary and wife Tasha and Nicholas Brady and Ryan Bowers both of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Angela Hinchman and husband Terry of Buckhannon; one step grandson, Dustin Waybright and wife Jackie of OH; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Simon and wife Louise of Goode, VA and one sister, Iris McLain of Hodgesville, WV. Mr. Simon was a Security Officer for Moore Business Forms of Buckhannon. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and High Priest at the church, a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663 and life member and past commander. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Navy where he spent 10 years in Naval intelligence and the National Security Agency. Friends will be received at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints on Monday, May 4, 2009 from 12 Noon until 2 PM the funeral hour. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery at Hodgesville, WV. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion, DAV Chapters # 5 & 36 will conduct Military Honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ina Lee Shreve
Ina Lee Shreve, age 83, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, May 02, 2009 at her home under the care of Peoples Hospice. She was born January 18, 1926 in Kedron, WV, a daughter of the late William and Lillie Maude Hornbeck Tallman. On April 4, 1942 she married Enoch Ralph Shreve who preceded her in death on July 26, 2004. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Dacie Holmes, Mary Tenney, Daris Swihart and Ruth Tallman and six brothers, Hartzel, Steward, Morris Bud, Wilson Stub, Billie and James Tallman. She is survived by three daughters, Jo Ann Hawkins and husband Glen of Rock Cave, WV, Patty Bennett and husband Darrell of Buckhannon and Jodie Moran and husband Terry of Lexington, KY; two sons, Ralph Edward Shreve and wife Carolyn and Bobby Lee Shreve and wife Linda all of Buckhannon; one brother, Bobby Joe Tallman and wife Dana of Tallmansville, WV; eleven granddaughters, Cheryl McCord and husband Roger of Bellevue, NE, Debra South and husband Mike of Plattsmouth, NE, Terri Woods and husband Doug of Warrenton, VA, Pam Queen and husband Wayne of Buckhannon, Shirley Corder and husband Bob of Clarksburg, WV, Chanda Sloan and husband Jason of Buckhannon, Gail Widmer and husband Matthew of Lexington, Jesse Hammond and husband Eron of Youngsville, NC, Andrea Hesson and husband Scott of Eustis, FL, Shelley Roberts and husband Lindsey of Lexington and Tracey Moran of West Virginia Wesleyan College; six grandsons, Robert Bubba Shreve and wife Melanie of Buckhannon, Chris Shreve and wife Shalom of Bellingham, WA, Wes Hawkins and wife Barb of Rock Cave, Wayne Hawkins and wife Joy of Raleigh, NC, Dale Hawkins and wife Dauna of Weston, WV and Darrell Bennett, Jr. and wife Patti of Trinity, NC; twenty-six great-grandchildren ;eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several brothers in law and several sisters in law. Mrs. Shreve was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith. She was a member of Almost Heavens Red Hatters of Rock Cave at the age of 82. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, flowers and spending time with her family. A Special Thanks to her caregivers, Ellen Smith, Cathy Tallman and Trish Lantz. Friends will be received Monday, May 4, 2009 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 10 AM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Tallman and the Rev. Douglas Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Herman Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Dennis "Denny" Sandy
Robert Dennis 'Denny' Sandy, age 55 of Mt. Nebo, Buckhannon, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 8:43 p.m. at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL, with his loving wife by his side. Denny was born on December 8, 1953, son of the late Robert McKinley and Betty Ellen (Ball) Sandy. He served his country in the military from July 21, 1972, until August 8, 1978. In the United State Air Force he was an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist stationed at Myrtle Beach, AFB in South Carolina with the 354th OMS TAC Squadron. He was honorably discharged into the Air National Guards on December 7, 1973, at Charleston, West Virginia Airport as a rank of E3. On December 8, 1973, he was honorably discharged from the Air National Guard and transported to the Army National Guard in Buckhannon, West Virginia with the 119th Engineering Detachment as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the rank of E4, where he was stationed until discharged from the military. At the age of 50 Denny continued his education in Aviation Maintenance, at Fairmont State Technical College, which he did not have a chance to complete due to his illness. He was a skilled tradesman as well as an excellent Mechanic, loving husband, father, and grandfather Denny is survived by his wife of 29 years, Belenda Joy (White) Sandy, whom he married on August 31, 1979; two daughters Chrissy Nichole Runk and Melanie Dawn Gillum of Buckhannon; one son Stephan Eric of Holloman AFB New Mexico: two grandsons Jordan Kale Gillum, Koan McKinnley Runk; two granddaughters Kasey Renae Gillum (deceased) and Channing Kalena Gillum all of Buckhannon; one sister Diane Elaine Conners of Litchfield, NH; two nephews, John Robert of Salem, MA and James David Conners of Litchfield, NH. Friends and family will be received at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, from 4:00 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Kesling Cemetery. VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 and #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Royal Unger
Richard Royal Unger, age 80, of 54 Shumaker Rd. Buckhannon, WV, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at his home. He was born April 5, 1926 in Berkley Springs, WV a son of the late Royal Austin and Mary Jane Mesner Unger. He is survived by two brothers, Lewis C. Unger of Houston, TX and Don S. Unger of Ruther Glen, VA; one sister Marguerite Hollen of Myrtle Beach SC; three nephews, Charles W. Unger of Ruther Glen, Don Unger, Jr. of Richmond, VA and David Unger of Santa Fe, TX; three nieces, Rebecca Bumgarner of Manakin Sabot, VA, Linda Unger of Houston, TX and Susan Brock of Katy, TX. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Lou Hall. Mr. Unger was a member of the Buckhannon Elks Lodge # 1736, Buckhannon Moose Lodge # 598, Disabled Veterans, an aviation engineer and a veteran of WW II where he served with the 82nd airborne, special forces group (Pioneers). Graveside services will be held 11 AM Friday, March 9, 2007 at Buckhannon Memorial Park with Rev. Stephen Engle officiating. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion, DAV Chapters # 5 & 36 will conduct Military Honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth A. Smith
Kenneth A. Smith, age 67, of Buckhannon, WV, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his home. He was born on June 2, 1942 in Barbour Co. a son of the late Elbert Austin and Virginia Gladys Moore Smith. On February 3, 2004 he married Patricia Riley who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Kenya Mae Smith of Buckhannon, Kimberly Erlenbach and husband Dan, Sonja Smith, and Kora Smith all of OH; one grandson, William Martin of OH; four granddaughters, Danielle Erlenbach, Collean Martin and Kahala and Barbara Duffield all of OH; eight brothers, Paul W. Smith and wife Elsie, Thomas L. Smith and wife Brenda, Richard H. Smith, James B. Smith and wife Gala, Timothy Smith and wife Christine all of Buckhannon, Leonard Smith and wife Dorothy of Utica, OH, Roger D. Smith and wife Connie of Huntington, WV and Daniel K. Smith and wife Michelle of Chattanooga, TN; four sisters, Mary M. DeBarr and husband Donald, Melinda Kay Smith both of Buckhannon, Kathy Bedell and husband Denny of San Antonio, TX and Lisa C. Whaley and husband Brian of Alliance, OH; several nieces and nephews; two sister-in-laws Stacie Marsh and husband Daniel of Buckhannon and Lisa Rodriguez of French Creek, WV; two brother-in-laws, Robert Riley of Buckhannon and James Riley and wife Wilma of Queens, WV; Mother-in-law Rita Riley of Buckhannon; best friend Jimmie Shipman of Tallmansville, WV; four nephews Joshua Riley and Justin Rodriguez both of Buckhannon, Brend and Brooks Smith of Queens; and niece Amber Sines and husband Russell of Volga. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Davy L. Smith and one sister Charlotte S. Norman. Mr. Smith served as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Friends will be received 1-2 PM Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Sercives will be held at 2 PM on Thursday at the funeral home with the Reverend Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow at the Reger Chapel Cemetery. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Paul Willard Smallwood
Paul Willard Smallwood, age 65, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born March 7, 1944 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Thomas B. and Nita K. Smallwood. On February 20, 1967 he married Guadalupe Rodriguez who survives. Also, surviving are one daughter, Netonnis Lee Strother and husband Stephen of Buckhannon; one son, Thomas Paul Smallwood of Daleville, VA; three grandsons, Nathaniel W. Smallwood of Eagle Rock, VA, StephenPaul B. Strother of Buckhannon and Chadwick C. Strother of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Cheyenne T. Strother of Buckhannon and a half sister, Erma Kraft of Greensboro, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Basil and Loyal Smallwood and one sister, Sylvia Rose Smallwood. Mr. Smallwood was a member of the Rock Cave Baptist Church in Rock Cave, WV. He owned and operated Smallwood Upholstery and Auto Trim and also was a custodian at B-U High School. He served in the US Air Force during Vietnam War. Friends will be received Monday, August 24, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the Rock Cave Baptist Church with Pastor David Jessie and Rev. Eugene Helmick officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Cave Cemetery at Rock Cave. VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion, DAV Chapters # 5 and # 36 will conduct Military Honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Sylvia Balducci Tenney
Sylvia Balducci Tenney, age 77 of 117 E. Green St., Buckhannon, WV, died Saturday, August 11, 2007 at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. She was born April 10, 1930 in Pickens, WV a daughter of the late Archibal and Violet Newlon Bachmann. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Parker, second husband, Kenneth Balducci, third husband, Dona W. Tenney and one brother, Burl Bachmann. She is survived by three step daughters, Carolyn Lewis and husband Earl D. of Buckhannon, Pearl Hanifan of Adrian, WV and Mildred Vanskike and husband Russell of Missouri; one step son, George W. Tenney of French Creek, WV; also several step grandchildren, great grandchildren and a few cousins. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Tuesday, August 14, 2007 from 6-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Wednesday, August 15 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Estes. Burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery at Queens, WV. James Orval Smith
James Orval Smith, age 71, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, November 27, 2009 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, WV. He was born May 12, 1938 in Buckhannon a son of the late Fred Tomey and Reta Hardesty.On July 27, 1956 he married Rena Idell Coberly who survives. Also surviving are a son, Joseph W. Smith of Buckhannon; four daughters, Sharon Short and husband Bart of Buckhannon, Karen Belt and husband James of Buckhannon, Debbie Smith and companion Roger Hinchman of Ellamore, WV and Darlene Hall and husband Scott of Weston; three sisters, Hilda Lee, Betty Watson and Dorothy Weekley; four sisters-in-law, Ellen, Delena and Jane Smith and Lela Coberly; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several half brothers and half sisters. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son James Alan Smith; three brothers, Richard, Robert and Harold Smith and three brothers-in-law, Denzil Lee, Herman Watson and Lee Weekley. Mr. Smith worked for Ann Lorentz & Galloway Coal and Construction Company and was a Christian by Faith. Friends will be received Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. The funeral service will be held 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Hal Hevener officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. Charles Wesley Schoolcraft
Charles Wesley Schoolcraft, age 77, of French Creek, WV died Monday, December 21, 2009 at his home. He was born October 27, 1932 in Gallaway, WV, a son of the late Ollie O. and Gay Brady Schoolcraft. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one step daughter, Lisa Stackpole; one sister, Jessica Harvey McNemar and one brother, Greyson Schoolcraft. He is survived by his companion, Margaret M. (Christian) Hulett of French Creek; three sons, Ben Schoolcraft and wife Cathy of NC, Mark Schoolcraft and wife Amanda of Port Republic, VA and Paul W. Schoolcraft and wife Trisha of Buckhannon; two daughters, Tina Tenney of Lumberport, WV and Hollie Clark and husband of WV; step daughter, Robin Stackpole of Buckhannon and fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Schoolcraft was a coal miner for Dola Mines. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Thursday, December 24, 2009 from 11 AM 1 PM the funeral hour with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Talbott Cemetery at Talbott, WV. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and Chapters # 5 & 36 DAV will conduct Military Honors at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the family for funeral expenses. Lucius Simms Smith, III
Lucius Simms Smith, III, age 61, of Rock Cave, WV, the Arlington Community, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at his home following a brief illness. He was born October 10, 1948 in Towson, MD, a son of the late Lucius Simms and Sarah Ann Ricketts Smith. On July 22, 1994 he married Molly Howes who survives. He is also survived by their two daughters, Melissa Daugherty and her husband Ian, Brianna Smith with special friend Brandon Scott all of Buckhannon; one step daughter, Lindsey Williams and fianc Eric Rhodes of Lost Creek, WV and five granddaughters; first wife, Deana Steiner Smith of Holly Grove, WV, daughter, Melissa Smith of NY and son Colin Smith of NJ and one brother and two sisters of Maryland. Lou is originally from Towson, MD. He has resided in West Virginia with a 35 year long career at the WVDNR, Wildlife Division. He enjoyed the outdoors, fine foods, music and was a proud lifetime member of the NRA. A private service will be held at a later date. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
