Morris A. Smith
Morris A. Smith, 88, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2013. He was born April 8, 1925 in Imperial, West Virginia to the late Roy and Hattie Smith. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from Lockheed Martin after 33 years. He was a member of Akron Praise Temple and a longtime Sunday School teacher and Bible Study Leader. Morris loved singing and served as a song leader at Brimfield Community Church for 30 years. He founded the Southern gospel group Beulahland. In addition to his parents, Morris was preceded in death by nine brothers and three sisters. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Bessie "Betty" Smith; children, Carla (Bob) Walkerow, Nicholas Smith, Roy "Lonnie" (Tina) Smith, Joyce (Gary) Williams, Bobby Smith, Mark (Dawn) Smith, Sonya (Joseph) Berenyi, and Morris (Amanda) Smith, Jr.; 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many brothers and sisters-in-law who were very special to him. Family and friends may call on Thursday, June 6 from 5-8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 S. Kanawha St., Buckhannon, WV where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Stull officiating, followed by burial at Indian Camp Cemetery. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Margery Viola Tenney
Margery Viola Tenney, age 84, of Tallmansville, WV, died Monday, October 23, 2006 at her home. She was born December 12, 1921 in Tallmansville, a daughter of the late James Anthony and Nola Mae Gooden Hornbeck. On October 29, 1938 she married Boyd R. Tenney who preceded her in death May 24, 2002. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three sisters, Stacy Davis, Agnes Sis Trussler, and Madeline Weet Tenney; six brothers, Ronford Bud, Denvil Dude, Richard John D., Doyle, Lindberg Lindy and Carl Ed Hornbeck. She is survived by six sons, Ronald L. Tenney and wife Ida of Clover, SC, Darrel R. Tenney and wife Linda Jane of Poquoson, VA, David A. Tenney and wife Martha of Lost Creek, WV, Kenneth W. Tenney and wife Crystal of Mt. Carmel, WV, Rev. Bradley L. Tenney and wife Judith of Tallmansville and Bruce S. Tenney and wife Tammy of Yorktown, VA; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister Pansy Tee Gooden of Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Tenney was a homemaker, a 50 year plus member of the Tallmansville Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Tallmansville CEOS. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be l PM Friday at the Tallmansville Baptist Church, where she will lie-in-state from 12-1 PM the funeral hour, with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Jerl D. 'Jerry' Slaughter
Jerl D. 'Jerry' Slaughter, loving husband, father and grandfather, age 84, of Shinnston, WV died Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born August 6, 1928 in Pickens, WV, a son of the late Wilbert T. and Stacy L. Rowan Slaughter. On September 15, 1950 he married Mary C. DeRico who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia Miller and husband David of Metz, WV and Rosalie Boyles and husband Willy of Winfield, WV; two sons, Jerl D. Slaughter, Jr., of Pursglove, WV and Bob Slaughter and wife Debbie of Shinnston; three granddaughters, Shelly Smith and husband Trey of Westover, WV, Mandy Warden and husband Richard of Hurricane, WV and Amber Penland and husband Jonathan of Jacksonville, NC; three grandsons, David Miller, II of San Diego, CA, Robert Slaughter, II of Osan, Korea and Jason Smith and wife Amy of Clarksburg, WV; honorary grandchildren, Dr. Matt Verona and wife Susan of Shinnston; nine great-grandchildren and two brothers, Fay Slaughter of Buckhannon, WV and Jay Slaughter of Naperville, IL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Faith Slaughter; one brother, Buddy Slaughter and three sisters, Geneva Slaughter, Ruby Daft and Naomi Collins. Mr. Slaughter served in the US Army Air Corp. during WW II from 1945 to 1948. He loved wood working and hunting. Mr. Slaughter was a Section Foreman for Consol Energy, and he was a member of the St. Anns Catholic Church of Shinnston, WV. Friends will be received Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with Father Thomas W. Dagle as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Sand Run Baptist Cemetery at Excelsior, WV. A very special thank you to the Drs. and staff of the Louis A. Charles Raymond Shaffer
Charles Raymond Shaffer, age 87, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at his home. He was born March 29, 1927 in Rupert, WV a son of the late Charles Henry and Constance Laura Black Shaffer. On April 17, 1949 he married Vivian Yvonne Rogers who preceded him in death on April 20, 1996. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Lowman and Neille Foster. Surviving are three daughters, Charlene Dean and husband Brian of Buckhannon, Laura Davis and husband Robin of Beverly, WV and Gloria Shaffer of Elkins, WV; two sons, Mark Steven Shaffer and wife Marvalee of Yucaipa, CA and Charles Roger Chad Shaffer and wife Kathy of Kenova, WV; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. Mr. Shaffer served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Charles was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church and the Franklin Lodge #7 AF & AM. He was a retired math teacher for the Upshur Co. Board of Education. He served in the WV House of Delegates for 18 consecutive years and also served on the Upshur Co. Commission. Charlie would say that with Jesus you have everything and without Him you have nothing. A graveside service will be held 2 PM on Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. The Upshur Co. Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the graveside. In lieu of flowers Charlie would like you to make donations to your local church. Mary L. Rexroad Young Thorpe
Mary Louise Rexroad Young Thorpe, age 83 of Buckhannon passed away at 11:55PM Friday, January 4, 2008 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. She was born in Camden on Gauley in Webster County, WV on December 7, 1924, a daughter of the late Nathan and Lela Morton Rexroad. On July 20, 1947, she was united in marriage to Richard L. Dick Young who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by Dewey W. Thorpe, two grandchildren, Edythe Ann Livesay and Leslie Young. In addition, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Davisson and June Foehr and five brothers, John M., Nathan Junior, Vorley Michael, Max W. Pete Rexroad and William Dennis Rexroad.
She is survived by two daughters and one son, Ann Louise Young Livesay and husband Mike of Buckhannon and two loving grandchildren Michael and Amy, Marian Lee Young of New York City, NY and Richard Lee Young II of Buckhannon and two loving grandchildren Richard Lee Young III, and Colin Young. A sister. Doris Berry of Mogadore, Ohio and a special cousin, Marian Marston of Corvallis, Oregon, also survive. Her very special lifelong friend, Bettie Jean Williams Winker survives in Ormond Beach, Florida.
She attended Cowan High School where she was a majorette. In 1942 her family moved to Buckhannon. She was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1943. She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where she was pursuing a bachelor degree in music education. She was a member of the Wesleyan Emeritus Club. During her lifetime business experience, she was co-owner and operated Dick Youngs Dairy Bar and Dick Youngs Restaurant, worked for the C& P telephone Company during the war in Buckhannon, Pt. Pleasant and West Palm Beach, Florida. In Buckhannon she worked for Dr. Young and Dr. Courtney and at Millers Pharmacy as well as being an accountant at the DOH headquarters at the Equipment Division. She also worked at The Appliance and Furniture Mart. Being community minded, during the 1960s she helped the WV Strawberry Festival as an advisor to the queens court, worked with the United Way, was a member of the WV Republican State Executive Committee, and was selected as the Upshur County Republican of the Year in 1996-97. She was a founder and President of the Ladies of the Elks and belonged to the Women of the Moose. She also worked as an assistant for Delegate Dale Riggs. She joined Chapter # 18 Order Eastern Star in 1945 and she was a 64 year member receiving her 50 year pin in 1994. She was elected to and served on the Buckhannon City Council from 1996-2000.
Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Monday, January 7, 2008 from 5-9 PM with an Order Eastern Star service at 8:30 PM. Funeral services will held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Billee Scott Mick & Rev. Dr. Charles Godwin Officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. Bobby Lee Shreve
Bobby Lee Shreve, age 64, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at his home in Buckhannon. He was born October 21, 1950 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Enoch Ralph and Ina Lee Tallman Shreve. On September 2, 1979 he married Linda Sites who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Chanda Shreve of Fairmont, WV and Gail Widmer and husband Matthew of Georgetown, KY; one grandson, Ethan McCale Widmer of Georgetown, three sisters, Joann Hawkins and husband Glen of Rock Cave, WV, Patty Bennett and husband Darrell of Buckhannon and Jodie Moran and husband Terry of Lexington, KY and one sister-in-law, Carolyn Shreve of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Shreve. Bobby served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, was an active member of AA for 27 Years, enjoyed car shows and spending time with family and friends. Friends will be received Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Tallman and the Rev. Doug Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Khevan Walter Simons
Khevan Walter Simons, age 57, of Alexandria, VA died Monday, May 11, 2015 at the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. He was born December 29, 1957 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Gerald and Eldora Tenney Simons. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Simons. Surviving are two brothers, Neil Simons of Clarksburg, WV and Donald Simons of Buckhannon; three nephews, Michael David Simons of Hampton, WV, Jason Michael Simons of Bridgeport, WV and Donald Scott Simons of Buckhannon; one niece, Sherry Goodwin of Lost Creek, WV; three great nephews, Michael David Simons, Jr. of Hampton and Corbin and Matthew Simons of Bridgeport. Mr. Simons was a construction worker. A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 1-2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with a memorial service at 2 PM with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Cemetery at Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jeremy J. Thomas
Jeremy J. Thomas, age 19, of French Creek, WV died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. He was born May 29, 1988 in Clarksburg, WV, a son of Jeffrey Jay Thomas of Fairmont, WV and Lana S. Eddy Luby of French Creek. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a step father, Kenneth Luby of French Creek; one brother, James Eddy of French Creek; one sister, Rachael Thomas of Huntington, WV; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Eddy of Shinnston, WV; paternal grandmother, Judith Mayfield of Metz, WV and fianc Clarissa Sutphin of French Creek. Jeremy was a rig hand for Nexus Oil & Gas Company. Friends will be received Sunday, March 23, 2008 from 10 AM 2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the French Creek Memorial Gardens at French Creek. Eula Frances Tharp
Eula Frances Tharp, age 87, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. She was born April 27, 1920 in Pocahontas County, WV, a daughter of the late Benjamin Peter and Susan Mae Sizemore Boggs. On June 14, 1945 she married Mason Oliver Tharp who preceded her in death on November 2, 2004. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Hallie Hawkins. She is survived by one son, Mason Eugene Tharp and wife Flora (Chapman) of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Mason Eugene Tharp, Jr. and wife Betty of Lenoir, NC, Steven Michael Tharp and Fiance Brenice Harper of Buckhannon, Nicholas Wayne Tharp and wife Lisa of Buckhannon and Jacob Randall Tharp of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Sonja Elaine Burt and husband Andrew of Harvest, AL; two great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters; one step great-granddaughter; one sister, Lucille Brooks of Buckhannon and a half sister, Arlene Gould of Hinkleville, WV. Mrs. Tharp was a Nurses Aide for St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of the Tennerton United Methodist Church, the DAV Chapter # 36 Ladies Aux., Tennerton Homemakers and the Frank B. Barlette Post # 7 American Legion Ladies Aux. Friends will be received Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 4-8 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Keith Sharp
Michael Keith Sharp, age 66, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born July 11, 1947 in Webster Co., WV, a son of the late Mary Evelene Sharp Chewning. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by one sister, Judith Paulette Parks; one nephew, Virgil Gail Parks; one great niece, Carly Rene Hall and one great nephew, William Will Black. He is survived by two sisters, Ida Ilene Bennett and husband, Ray of Adrian, WV and Marquette Kimble and husband Othie of Buckhannon; one brother, John Riffle and wife Debra of Buckhannon; one brother-in-law, Donald L. Parks; five nieces, Juanita Humphrey and Husband Harold and Donna Parks all of Buckhannon, Kathy McIe and husband Jimmy of Volga, WV, Angel Warner and husband Donnie of Huttonsville, WV and Virginia Sarver and husband Jeff of Shinnston, WV; eight nephews, Douglas Bennett and fianc Becky and Thomas Bennett and wife Serina all of French Creek, WV, Alex Bennett and wife Samantha of Buckhannon, Dustin Bennett and wife Katie of Junior, WV, John Riffle II of Buckhannon, Junior Lee Kimble of Buckhannon, Othie Kimble of PA and Michael Kimble of Clarksburg, WV and several great nieces and great nephews. Fay Edward Slaughter
Fay Edward Slaughter, loving husband, father and grandfather, age 77, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his home. He was born November 27, 1938 in Bergoo, WV, a son of the late Wilbert and Stacy Rowan Slaughter. On January 20, 1962 he married Lorraine Virginia Paugh who preceded him in death on January 16, 2005. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Curtis; two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by one son, Fay W. Slaughter and wife Caroline of Martinsburg, WV; two daughters, Rachella Curtis and Rick Ramage of Morgantown, WV and Becky Lewis and husband Steve of Buckhannon; five granddaughters, Kim Slaughter of Shepherdstown, WV, Niki Slaughter of Martinsburg, Tiffany and Cassandra Curtis both of Morgantown and Samantha Hollen of VA; two great-grandsons, Joey Slaughter of Shepherdstown and Justus Kinnie of Martinsburg; one step great-grandson, Elisha Lewis of Buckhannon; two step great-granddaughters, Allison and Lillie Lewis both of Buckhannon and a twin brother, Jay Slaughter of Naperville, IL. Mr. Slaughter attended WVU and received his Bachelors Degree from WVWC. He was a Chief Investigator for the Department of Corrections and a WV Parole/Probation Officer. Mr. Slaughter loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, animals and being outdoors. Friends will be received Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Chad Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV.
