Dalton Shane Tenney
Dalton Shane Tenney, age 19, of French Creek, WV, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born January 3, 1994 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of Rodney and Cathy Casto Tenney of French Creek. Also surviving is one son, Brody Hamilton; one sister, Cathryn Parker and husband Mike of Weston, WV; two brothers, Dustin Tenney of Buckhannon and Travis Casto of Clarksburg, WV; paternal grandmother, Mildred Tenney of French Creek; maternal grandparents, Betty and Dannie Casto of Flemington, WV; a nephew, Trey Parker of Weston and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Dalton was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Paul Tenney; one brother Joey Casto and girlfriend, Katie Hamilton. Friends will be received Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Big Bend Cemetery at Sago, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Basil H. 'Chick' Tenney
Basil H. "Chick" Tenney, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at his home. He was born October 8, 1923 in Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Conard and Florence Scott Tenney. On May 3, 1944 he married Opal Moats who preceded him in death on February 26, 2002. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, Roger Tenney; one granddaughter, Meghan Hope Tenney; one great granddaughter, Allison Hope Stump; one son-in-law, Mike Stump; three brothers, Willis, Denley and Don Tenney and four sisters Willa Leigh, Mazie Currence, Irene Olenick and Creta Fern Tenney. He is survived by four sons, Clyde Tenney and wife Mary, Carroll Tenney and wife Rosalie, Terry Tenney and wife Judy and Shawn Tenney and wife Tammy all of Buckhannon; four daughters, Jean Gifford and husband Jim of Buckhannon, Loretta Stump of Indiana, PA, Norma Cook of Amissville, VA and Wanda Matthews and husband Kenny of Buckhannon; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one brother Dayton Tenney and wife Barb of Buckhannon; two sisters, Zelma Currence and husband Carrol of Valley Bend, WV and Kathleen Tenney of Beverly, WV; several nieces and nephews and two special sistersin-law, Jocie Tenney of Lorentz, WV and Carolyn Tenney of Buckhannon. Mr. Tenney was a timber cutter. Friends will be received Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Holly J. Hoover and Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery at Hemlock. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Church Cemetery c/o Mary Tenney 67 High School Ave Buckhannon, WV 26201. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lowell Roger Turner
Lowell Roger Turner, age 66, a resident of Buckhannon, WV passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Holbrooks Nursing Home in Buckhannon. He was born December 30, 1946 . He is survived by a friend, Beth King and husband Mike of Buckhannon. Lowell was an avid nature and animal lover. He enjoyed church and quick to remind you Gods Watching. Bring smiles to everyones life that he came in contact with. Lowell leaves behind many close and dear friends, whom he cherished. He also leaves behind his roommates Fred and Herb and two pets Coco and Rite a way that he truly adored. Our joys will be greater, Our love will be deeper, Our lives will be fuller, because we shared your moment. Robert M. Thompson
Robert M. Thompson, age 49, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, July 5, 2013 at his home. He was born July 3, 1964 in Michigan, a son of Keith and Rebecca Smith Bauer of Saginaw, MI. In addition to his parents he is survived by his Fiance, Leslie Stump of Buckhannon; one brother Craig Bauer of Saginaw and one sister Kimberly McLean of Bridgeport, MI. Mr. Thompson was a Dental Assistant. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James Roy True
James Roy True, age 88 of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at his home in Buckhannon. He was born June 22, 1926 in Barbour Co., WV, a son of the late Clifford and Lucy Parsons True. On November 27, 1945 he married Marion Ruth Moran who preceded him in death on September 23, 2007. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian Harvey; one son, James R. True, Jr.; two brothers, William Page Bid True and Raymond Buddy True and three sisters, Martha Payne, Marlene Smith and Gloria Vance. Mr. True leaves behind one daughter, Dr. Jeani Hawkins and husband Kevin of Tallmansville, WV; two grandsons, James Michael True and Lisa of AZ and William Andrew Evans of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Rebecca True-Capicola and husband Michael of Norton, OH, Alicia Harvey-Bass and husband Dallas of FL, Alison Harrison and husband Rodney of Weston, WV and Amanda Nesbitt and husband Stephen of Buckhannon ; seven great grandsons, Caleb Daugherty, Vincent Harrison, Aydan Auvil Tyler Capicola, Jeffrey Adams and Joshua and Andrew Nesbitt; three great granddaughters, Channel Capicola, Faith Auvil and Brianna True; one brother, Robert Buck True and wife Patricia of Philippi, WV; three sisters, Louise Ward and Wilda Moran both of Century, WV and Marian Kelly of Philippi and several nieces and nephews. Mr. True served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 1672nd Engineering Utilities Detachment. James worked for Bethlehem Steel as a UMWA worker for 22 years and retired from Badger Coal as a Foreman after 20 years. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. True was an avid bowler and thought the world of Kyle and Judy Lane. Jim Managed a baseball team in Century for many years and won several championships competing within the state. He was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians. James was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Ward Methodist Church at Century. Friends will be received Friday, May 22, 2015 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday at the Way of Holiness Church in Buckhannon with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Philippi. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

William R. Trinkle
William R. Trinkle, age 79, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born May 17, 1936 in Wise County, VA, a son of the late Paul and Vergie Cassell Trinkle. On April 8, 1978 he married Geraldine Ours who survives. Also surviving are one son, Bernard Stanton and wife Barbara of Ellamore, WV; one daughter, Rebecca Esquer of Lewis Co., WV; two grandsons, Gregory Esquer Jr. of Lewis Co. and Andrew Esquer of Washington, DC; three granddaughters, Ariel Guady and husband Damian of Hodgesville, WV, Leanna Stanton of Buckhannon and Stephanie Stanton of Ellamore; three great granddaughters, Alexa Stanton of Buckhannon and Bralynn and Aniyah Guady both of Hodgesville; one brother, Bob Trinkle of OH; one sister, Brenda Newcomer of OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Lower and Helen Tenney. Mr. Trinkle served in the United States Army. Friends will be received January 30, 2016 from 1 to 2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A memorial service will held 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to help with funeral expenses. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gohen Chapman Tenney
Gohen Chapman Tenney, age 73, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday November 20, 2015 at his home. He was born May 8, 1942 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Gohen Arnold and Ida Belle Ours Tenney. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Tenney; one sister, Carolyn Cussins and two nephews, Kevin and Chris Tenney. He is survived by one son, Douglas Tenney and wife Melissa of Ellamore, WV; two granddaughters, Julia Catherine Tenney of Ellamore and Sarah Nicole Rolenson and husband Tommy of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Emma Rolenson of Buckhannon; one brother in law, John Cussins of Kedron, WV; ex-wife, Diana Tenney of Buckhannon; two uncles, Claude Tenney and wife Regina and Bob Ours and wife Sharon all of Buckhannon; one aunt, Donice Tenney of Buckhannon; one nephew, Daniel Tenney of Buckhannon; a special nephew, Nathan Hornbeck and wife Brittany and their daughter of Buckhannon; two nieces, Charlotte Tenney and husband Mark of Buckhannon and Vicki Tenney of CO; two great-nieces, Devan and DeAnna Tenney both of Buckhannon and three cousins, Rex Tenney and wife Josie and Clayton and Mark Tenney all of Buckhannon. Mr. Tenney worked at Moore Business Forms until its closure and then retired from Armstrong Flooring in Beverly, WV. Gohen was the former Fire Chief and an active member of the Ellamore Fire Department and was involved with community service. He loved music, hunting and being in the outdoors. Gohen was a loveable man. He truly passed in a place he loved and doing what he loved. Friends will be received Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 12:30 until 2 PM at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Melvin Mack Uncapher
Melvin Mack Uncapher, age 88, of Massillon, OH died Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Mercy Medical Center in Canton, OH. He was born November 19, 1920 in Coral, PA, a son of the late Lawrence and Rachel Ferrier Uncapher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, L. Marian Frye Uncapher, who died May 24, 1979 and two sons, Melvin Marshall and Phillip Arthur Uncapher. He is survived by four daughters, Bonnie Ketler and husband Darrell of Massillon, Rachael Taylor of Pearidge, AR, Faith Grant of Massillon and Loretta Decker of Watertown, NY; one daughter-in-law Wanda Uncapher of St. Albans, WV; one son, Robert (Bob) Uncapher of Volga, WV; twenty-eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren and one sister, Tilly Mack of PA. Mr. Uncapher was a pipe fitter, a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Buckhannon and served in the US Army during World War II. Friends will be received from 6-8 PM, Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 1 PM, Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon. Barbour County Post # 44 American Legion and the WV National Guard will conduct military honors at the gravesite. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

John Dana Vita
John Dana Vita, age 46, of Clarksburg, WV died Tuesday, June 5 2007 in Clarksburg. Born September 19, 1960 in Buckhannon, WV he was a son of Anthony John Vita of Miami, FL and Martha Ann (Rowan) Vita of Clarksburg. Also Surviving are three sons Anthony Vito of Fairfax VA, Allen Vita of Fairfax and Cooper Vita of VA; one brother, Frank Vita and wife Kathy of Clarksburg; one sister Lisa V. Rosselli of Washington, D.C. and several Nieces and Nephews. John was preceded in death by one brother Michael Anthony Vita. Mr. Vita was a self-employed carpenter. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon with the Rev. Morgan Brady Officiating. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth (Betty) Dutton Hornbeck Van Kirk
Elizabeth (Betty) Dutton Hornbeck Van Kirk, age 83, formerly of Buckhannon, WV, died January 6, 2009 in Stuart, FL. Born April 27, 1925 in Morgantown, WV, she was the daughter of the late Glenn R. and Pauline Pyle Dutton. She attended West Virginia University and was best known as an author and journalist with the Republican Delta newspaper in Buckhannon, WV. She covered the socio-political revolution of the 1960s with irreverence, humor, and style in her weekly front-page news column entitled West Virginia Whirligig. Her journalism career covered 39 years including early positions with the Buckhannon (WV) Record, East St. Louis (IL) Journal, Clarksburg (WV) Exponent, Parkersburg (WV) News, and the Bluefield (WV) Telegraph. She is the author of the Civil War chronicle Upshur Brothers of the Blue and the Gray. Prior to her retirement in 1981, she served West Virginia Wesleyan College as Director of College Relations under the leadership of then college president Jay Rockefeller. Upon her retirement, she was honored with the creation of the Betty Hornbeck Van Kirk Media Scholarship Fund to provide educational funds to aspiring journalists. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, charter member and past president of the YWCA, Chapter 18 Order of Eastern Star, and Upshur County Historical Society, all of Buckhannon; former member of WV Public Relations Association and WV Press Association; former member of Buckhannon Country Club; served 12 years as secretary of Buckhannon Chamber of Commerce; member of Martin County Golf and Country Club in Stuart FL; and involved with administrative and social committees of Conquistador Homeowners Association in Stuart, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Van Kirk, in January 2000. Surviving are two sons, David Dutton Hornbeck and wife Judi, of Manteo, NC; William R. Hornbeck and wife Margaret, of Leesburg, VA; one daughter, Lorna Ann Hornbeck Taylor, of Vacaville, CA; one sister, Dorothy Dutton Short, of Buckhannon, WV; one nephew, Bartley Dutton Short of Buckhannon, WV; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hornbeck Johnson of Kinston, NC; Jeffrey Dutton Hornbeck of Clayton, NC; Brian Dutton Hornbeck of Ashburn, VA; Stephanie Hornbeck Chadwick of Charlotte, NC; Jessica Eldredge Knutson and Angela Eldredge Cope, both of Vacaville, CA. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren; Karlie Knutson, Benjamin Hornbeck, Will Hornbeck, Bronwyn Hornbeck, Connor Chadwick, Alexandra Chadwick, Kathryn Hornbeck, Benjamin Cope and Olivia Knutson. One stepson, Wayne Van Kirk of Houston, TX and stepdaughter, Susan Van Kirk Tucker of Fruitland, MD, seven step-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Betty Hornbeck Van Kirk Media Scholarship Fund, West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, WV 26201. Friends will be received Friday, January 9, 2009 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Damon Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery.

Mancil Vernon Vaughn
Mancil Vernon Vaughn, age 72, of Helvetia, WV died Monday, January 13, 2009 at his home. He was born May 10, 1936 at Quinwood, WV, a son of the late Worthy D. and Clara OBrian Vaughn. On September 22, 1965 he married Norma Jean Tenney who preceded him in death on January 14, 2000. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, Vernon Vaughn; one brother, Lawrence Vaughn and six sisters, Inez Cogar, Elsie Mason, Freda Huffman, Eula, Glenna and Olive Vaughn. He is survived by seven sons, Calvin Vaughn and wife Mary of Strasburg, VA, Marlin Vaughn of French Creek, WV, Marvil Vaughn of French Creek, Bevil Vaughn of Buckhannon, WV, Colton Vaughn and wife Katrina of Buckhannon, Wayco Vaughn and wife Jessica of French Creek and Carlson Vaughn of Mount Holly, NC; two grandsons, Brandon Richard of Buckhannon and Nicholas Vaughn of Strasburg, VA; four granddaughters, Andrea Vaughn of Strasburg, Brittany Vaughn of French Creek, Tanisha Vaughn of French Creek and Raynah Vaughn of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews; one brother, Homer Vaughn of Buckhannon and two sisters, Hazel Peck and Donna Morton both of Buckhannon. Mr. Vaughn was a coal miner. Friends will be received Thursday, January 15, 2009 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. William C. Eskew, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Cool Springs Cemetery at Diana, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
