Mary Evangeline 'Vangie' Zickefoose
Mary Evangeline Zickefoose, 86, of Covington Ky. formerly of Lost Creek WV, died Wednesday March 27, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care, Edgewood Ky. She was born Sept.18, 1926 in Tallmansville WV, a daughter of the late Squire E. and Gertie (Kelly) Miller. On March 22, 1944 she married Corbin V. Zickefoose, who preceded her in death in 2010. Surviving are two sisters, Mildred (Billie) Zickefoose, Vermillion OH, and Maudeline Barnett, Zephyrhills Fla., one daughter, Sharon Lilly and husband Steve of Hartselle Ala.; one son, Larry Zickefoose and wife Deborah of Covington, Ky., seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren Sharon and Larry will deeply miss the apple pies, and rum cakes !! In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Marstiller; and three brothers, Hartzel, Leonard, and Lawrence Miller. Mrs. Zickefoose attended Quiet Dell United Methodist Church and was a member of the Methodist Women, and the Garden Club. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Sunday, March 31, 2013 from 5-8 PM. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Monday, April 1, 2013 at the funeral home with the Rev. George Bramble officiating. Burial will follow in the WV National Cemetery, Pruntytown, WV at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in her memory to: Quiet Dell United Methodist Church Rt. 2 Box 202 Mt. Clare WV 26408 Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Nellie Norene Zickefoose
Nellie Norene Zickefoose, age 97, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Holbrooks Nursing Home in Buckhannon. She was born March 3, 1915 in Queens, WV, a daughter of the late Ralph and Virgie Reeder Hinkle. On January 31, 1931 she married Doyle Franklin Zickefoose who preceded her in death on December 29, 2003. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenna Warner and four brothers, Ralph A., Law, Charles and Don Lee Hinkle. She is survived by one daughter, Dortha Dottie Hanifan and husband Marvin of Buckhannon, WV; one sister, Pauline Polly Gooden of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Donna Woody and husband Delmas and Denise Matthey and husband Bruce both of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Joshua Matthey of Buckhannon; two great-granddaughters, Kayla Matthey of Buckhannon and Jessica Woody of Morgantown, WV and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Zickefoose was a homemaker. She was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church and the Upshur Sportsmans Club of Queens. Friends will be received Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 2 PM at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery in Queens. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Orval N. 'Pete' Zickefoose
Orval N. 'Pete' Zickefoose, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at his home. He was born September 13, 1921 in Queens, WV a son of the late Parley and Carrie Bailey Zickefoose. On December 17, 1947 he married Mary E. Cutright who preceded him in death on July 31, 2006. He is survived by one daughter Barbara D. Zickefoose and David Bunner, one son Rev. Jeff Zickefoose and wife Lynelle all of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Leslie, Stephanie, Emily, and April; two great grandsons, Nathan and Kyler, three great granddaughters, Cassie, Charity and Baleigh; two sisters, Norma Jean Gary and husband Tim, Myrtle Marie Zickefoose and husband Damon all of Dayton, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son Darrell Tom Zickefoose; four brothers, Chester, Doyle, Bailey and Ronald Zickefoose; eight sisters Marjorie Snyder, Addie Hinkle, Mildred Wentz, Stella Roth, Leatha Reed, Thelma Reed, Elva Sloane and Ruth Zickefoose. Mr. Zickefoose was a long-standing member of the Upshur Co. Sportsmans Club, Kesling Mill Lions Club, Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and was a Methodist by faith. After retiring from teaching, he was employed part-time at Moores Business Forms as a Security Guard. He attended Harmony Grade School, graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in May 1940 and WVWC in August 1951. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 in China, Burma and India. After graduating college he taught school at Zickefoose School, Leonard Run, Cutright Chapel, Carpenter, Tenmile and Washington District for 30 years. Twelve of those 30 years, he also drove school bus. During his teaching years he became known to his students as Uncle Pete and still is today. Friends will be received Monday, November 29, 2010 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Jim Wentz and Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at the Lanham Cemetery in Queens. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 & #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Corbin Vayne Zickefoose
Corbin Vayne Zickefoose, age 87, of Lost Creek, WV died Monday, November 15, 2010 at the WV Veterans Nursing Home in Clarksburg, WV. He was born July 7, 1923 in Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Irvin G. and Lora Lee Cutright Zickefoose. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Evangeline (Vangie) Miller whom he married on March 22, 1944. Also surviving are one daughter, Sharon Lilly and husband Steve of Lost Creek; one son, Larry Zickefoose and wife Deborah of Covington, KY; one sister, Hope Schmuck of Grafton, WV and seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Marstiller; four brothers, Noble, W.H. (Red), Vaughan and Paul Zickefoose and three sisters, Clefta Wagoner, Verl Williams and Celesta Reed. Mr. Zickefoose served in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 517th Parachute Infantry. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star as well as Paratroop Wings and the Combat Infantry Rifle w/wreath. He served in the European Theatre Operation with Five Campaign Stars. He was a retired mining supervisor from Bethlehem Steel. He enjoyed hunting and visiting with his family. He was also a member of the Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and attended the Quiet Dell United Methodist Church. Friends will be received Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. George Bramble officiating. Burial will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Grafton. Taylor County Color Guard will conduct Military Honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Arlyne Leona Zickefoose
Arlyne Leona Zickefoose, age 89, of Elkins, WV died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Elkins Regional Convalescent Center in Elkins. She was born May 18, 1921 in Helvetia, WV, a daughter of the late Arnold and Della Vogel Metzner. On May 18, 1940 she married James D. Zickefoose who preceded her in death on February 28, 2006. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Skinner. She is survived by four daughters, Ina L. Perry and husband Wayne of Buckhannon, Donette L. Clifford and husband Robert of Rutland, MA, Corrine L. Wamsley and husband Larry of Buckhannon and Joanna Posey and husband John of Weston, WV; two sons, Donald L. Zickefoose and wife Freda of Vermilion, OH and Randall L. Zickefoose and wife Wanda of Buckhannon; five grandsons, Jeff Zickefoose and wife Toni of Surprise, AZ, William Zickefoose of Vermilion, Todd Zickefoose of Buckhannon, Jamie Posey of Morgantown, WV and Josh Posey of Fairmont, WV; two granddaughters, Jeanette Perry of Buckhannon and Janine Posey of Weston; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Noah and Andrew Zickefoose all of Surprise; two brothers, Lawrence Metzner of Stonewood, WV and Howard Metzner of Helvetia and one sister Ozella Smith of Buckhannon. Mrs. Zickefoose was a homemaker. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church, a cook for Lorentz Grade School, Nurses Aide at the Leonard Memorial Hospital and a former president of the West Buckhannon CEOs. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Friends will be received Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels, Rev. Jeff Zickefoose and Rev. Dr. Basil Hensley Chaplain ERCC officiating. Burial will follow in the Lorentz Cemetery in Lorentz, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Verla Marlene Zirkle
Verla Marlene Zirkle, age 73, of Louisville, Ohio passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Green Meadows Health and Wellness Center in Louisville. She was born September 23, 1936 in Belington, WV a daughter of the late Herbert B. and Daisy Haddix Zirkle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Wilbert Zirkle. Verla is survived by a brother, Mendel C. Zirkle and wife Wren of Buckhannon, WV; a sister, Sally Ann Isgro and husband Larry of Louisville; a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Zirkle of Buckhannon; an aunt, Dema Carr of Belington and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. She was also blessed with a number of friends, her Exceptional Class at Canton Baptist Temple and wonderful caregivers at Green Meadows. Friends will be received at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, Monday, October 5, 2009 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will then be at 2:00 PM with Pastor Ed McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, in Philippi, WV. Mavis Elizabeth Zickefoose
Mavis Elizabeth Zickefoose, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, August 1, 2008 at her home, under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. She was born July 10, 1922 in Ellamore, WV, a daughter of the late John A. and Viola Wratchford Pratt. On April 21, 1941 she married Paul Russell Zickefoose who preceded her in death on October 30, 1984. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bradley and Edgar Zickefoose; three sisters, Martha Lewis, Gaynell Swick and Annie Tenney and two grandsons, Randall Currence and Randall Malcolm. She is survived by five daughters, Lora Viola Currence and husband Gene of Buckhannon, Paulette Malcolm and husband James of Newton Falls, OH, Judy Stackpole and husband Ronald of Buckhannon, Celesta Stump and husband Mike of Buckhannon and Hope Wamsley and husband Donald of Buckhannon; one son, Paul David Zickefoose and wife Brenda of Philippi, WV; one sister, Patricia Kelley of Buckhannon; special friends and care givers, Lisa Stackpole and Trudy Crawford; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Zickefoose was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Buckhannon. Friends will be received Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Beryl McKisic and the Rev. Mark Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Cutright Chapel Cemetery at Queens, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Theodore Ray "Ted" Zickefoose
Theodore Ray Ted Zickefoose, age 77, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, August 27, 2007 at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born August 21, 1930 at Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Cecil H. and Gladys Gail Garlow Zickefoose. He is survived by three sons, Randall R. Zickefoose and wife Pamela of Buckhannon, Steven K. Zickefoose of Apple Creek, OH and David L. Zickefoose and wife Teresa of Wilmington, NC; two daughters, Pamela G. Woody and husband Timothy of Buckhannon and Elizabeth A. Zickefoose of Vernal, UT; four grandsons, Christopher R. Zickefoose and wife Beverly, Matthew K. Woody and Daniel K. Woody, all of Buckhannon and Michael P. Zickefoose of Raleigh, NC; four granddaughters, Sarah E. Woody of Buckhannon, Katherine L. Bumgardner and husband Rusty of Volga, WV, Shannon L. Zickefoose of Wilmington and Jennifer L. Zickefoose of Ohio; three great-grandsons, Ryan R. Zickefoose, Christopher R. Zickefoose and Dominick A. Oliverio, all of Buckhannon; one great-granddaughter, Sanya Zickefoose of Buckhannon; companion, Jean Kegley and family; one brother, Howard Zickefoose and wife Linda of Mill Creek, WV; one sister, Elaine Russell and husband John of Mill Creek; one niece, Stephanie Zickefoose of Mill Creek and one nephew, Paul Zickefoose of Mill Creek. Mr. Zickefoose was a retired service rig operator for Alamco and a courier for Progressive Bank. He was a member of the Memorial Mission Church of Mill Creek. Friends will be received from 6-9 PM, Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Frank Long officiating. Burial will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
