Betty Klayman
Betty Lovitch Klayman, 97, a long-time resident of Williamson and co-owner with her husband, Harry, of Kay Furniture Company, died at her home in Miami, Fla., on Nov. 16, 2001.

Mrs. Klayman had been declining in health for the past 10 years. She and her husband opened Kay Furniture across from the railroad station in the 1940s, moving a few years later to Second Avenue. She and Harry, who died in 1986, moved to Miami Beach after they retired.

Her parents, Harry and Sadie Lovitch, were long-time residents of Williamson. Her father, Harry Lovitch, was co-founder of the B&L Furniture Company.

She graduated from Williamson High School in 1921 and attended the University of Cincinnati for one year. In Cincinnati, she met her future husband, whom she married in 1927. They were married for almost 60 years. In the early years of their marriage they lived in Cincinnati and in Lexington, Ky. The couple moved to Williamson during the Depression of the 1930s.

Mrs. Klayman, known to Kay Furniture customers as Miss Kay, was a gifted interior decorating advisor. Her goal was helping customers create a warm, cozy home without spending more than they could afford. She was a very active member of Temple B'Nai Israel and its Sisterhood. She recalled frequently, and with great pleasure, her many years in Williamson.

Her family holds as treasures the hand-sewn quilts she made over many years and the prize-winning Halloween and Purim costumes she made for her children and grandchildren, as well as the memory of her marvelous pecan rolls and blintzes.

She is survived by her daughter, Kay Klayman, and her son and his wife, Bob and Annette Klayman, all of whom live in Washington, D.C. She had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who live in six different cities across the United States. Her sister, Blanche Lovitch Friedberg, and her sister-in-law, Freda (Mrs. Clarence) Lovitch, reside in Miami Beach where for many years siblings Betty, Blanche and Clarence and their spouses all lived on one block, as they had earlier in Williamson. One of her nephews and his wife, Edward and Martha Lovitch, live in Williamson.
