Kenneth Jarrell
Kenneth Jarrell, 84, of Borderland, W. Va., beloved husband and father, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born May 14, 1917, at Inez, Ky., he was the son of the late George and Lena Copley Jarrell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, George Jarrell Jr., and three sisters, Ruby Farris, Gertrude Endicott and Helen Crum.

Mr. Jarrell was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA, having worked in area mines for more than 33 years. He lived for many years at Nolan, W. Va., moving to Columbus, Ohio, in 1975 and remaining until May of 2001, when he returned to the area to live at Borderland, W. Va. He was a faithful member of the South Columbus Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 61 years, Dollie Hensley Jarrell; son, Robert K. Jarrell and wife, Adela, of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Patricia Brewer and husband, William G., of Ona, W. Va., Thelma Tackett and husband, Joe, of Borderland, W. Va., Lena Fletcher and husband, Tommy, of Borderland, W. Va., and Bonnie Runyon and husband, Rev. Haskel, Jr., of Borderland, W. Va.; 12 grandchildren, Pamela (Gary) Smith and Robert (Cathy) Jarrell of Columbus, Ohio, Chris Brewer of Dayton, Ohio, Brian Brewer of Chesapeake, Va., Joe Tackett of Chattaroy, W. Va., Mike Tackett of Borderland, W. Va., Stacie Fletcher and Josh Fletcher of Borderland, W. Va., Kenny (Kim) Hensley, James Hensley and Matthew Hensley of Borderland, W. Va., and Susie (John) Baisden of Dover, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren, Halle Smith and Austin Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Morgan Tackett of Bean Station, Tenn., Breonna Baisden of Dover, Tenn., Steven and Johnathan Skinner of Columbus, Ohio, and a new great-granddaughter due to be born in July; two brothers, Clyde Jarrell of Columbus, Ohio, and James Ray Jarrell of Fort Gay, W. Va.; three sisters, Glenedith Jarrell of Warfield, Ky., Leona Ratcliff of Crum, W. Va., and Mae Smith of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

He is also survived by an extended family, the sons and daughters of the late Cobb and Maxie Hensley of Hatfield, Ky., with whom he spent many of his early years; a special niece, Debbie Sammons, who lived with the family for some time; dedicated caregiver, Brenda Neal; and many special friends and family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Bethel Temple Church at Nolan, W. Va. with the Revs. Richard Hensley and Haskell Runyon, Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2002, at Weaver Mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. Visitation will then be held Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at Bethel Temple Church, Nolan, W. Va., any time after 5 p.m. with special services beginning at 7 p.m. with speakers Revs. Ray Taylor and Earl White.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary, Williamson, W. Va.

Bessie Williamson
Bessie Lee Williamson, 70, of Grey Eagle, W. Va., died Sunday, May 12, 2002 at her residence.

Born March 13, 1932 in Mingo County, she was a daughter of the late James Johnson and Florence Dingess.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Williamson.

Mrs. Williamson was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.

Survivors include sons, James (Ceelene) Fitch of Grey Eagle and Aaron Lee (Jackie) Gauze of Charleston; daughters Lacy Louann Dials of Lovely and Laura Rose Williamson of Grey Eagle; brothers, Jimmie Johnson of Verdunville and Walter Johnson of Dunlow; sisters, Hessie Lonsberry of Hudson, Fla., Rosie Noe of Chapmanville, Ada Fraley of Kermit and Net Bartram of Lenore; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield (Ky.) Chapel, with Jesse J. Spaulding and Birdie Williamson officiating.

Burial will follow in the family cemetery, Grey Eagle.

Visitation will be held Tuesday after 6 p.m. at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield Chapel.

Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Harvey Hatfield
Harvey Hatfield, 79, of Gilbert, W. Va., died at 8:23 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at Saint Francis Hospital, Charleston.

Born April 4, 1923 at Browning Fork, Gilbert, he was a son of the late John and Caroline Grimmett Hatfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Bruce Hatfield, Turley Hatfield, Wayne Belcher, Kelly Hatfield, Johnny Hatfield and Roby Hatfield; and four sisters, Tilda Hatfield, Elsie Grimmett, Laura Ellis and Martha Sarah Carter.

Mr. Hatfield was a retired coal miner and member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a special niece, Dolly Kennedy of Browning Fork, Gilbert; three special grandchildren, Kelly Kennedy, Bruce Kennedy and Brian Kennedy, all of Browning Fork, Gilbert; one brother, Willie Hatfield, Wharncliffe.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Browning Fork House of Faith, Browning Fork Section of Gilbert, with the Rev. Diamond Carter and Rev. Larry Lester officiating.

Burial will follow in the Carter Cemetery, Browning Fork section of Gilbert.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the Browning Fork House of Faith at Browning Fork, Gilbert, Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m.-12 a.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of arrangements.

Janice Sheppard
Janice Irene Sheppard, 67, of Mishawaka, Ind., died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Christian Life Fellowship Assembly, South Bend, Ind.

Ottis Tiller
Otto Tiller, 75, of Newtown, died Saturday, May 4, 2002 in the Appalachian Regional Skilled Nursing Facility.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later time by Chambers Funeral Home, Inc.

Thathus Stepp
Thathus Ray Stepp, 66, of Omar (formerly of Delbarton), died Saturday, May 4, 2002, in Logan General Hospital.

Born November 19, 1935, at Elk Creek, he was a son of the late Carlie S. Stepp and Trulie Farley Stepp.

He was a retired coal miner, member of the UMWA and Sarah Ann Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Thacker Stepp; daughter, Sharon Maynard of Pine Creek; sisters, Naomi (Lester Jr.) Carr of Scherr, Delores (Roy) Pyles of Hillsboro, Arlene (Fred) Owens of Grove City, Ohio, Geraldine (Frank) Blair of Lenore; Yvonne (Joe) Guillory of Opelousas, La., Brenda Perkins of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Sandra (Bill) Belcher of Monterville, Rhonda (Joe) Meglan of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; brothers, Herchel Stepp of Columbus, Ohio, Randy (Penny) Stepp of Harrisburg, N.C., Gordan (Darlene) Stepp of Delbarton; grandchildren, Sherry and Jason Maynard of Pine Creek, and Mathew Maynard of Chapmanville; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the Sarah Ann Church of God, with the Revs. Gary Starr and Danny Ward officiating.

Burial will follow in the Curry Farley Cemetery at Elk Creek (Delbarton).

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home at Switzer.

Polly Slone
Polly Slone, 85, of Portsmouth, Ohio, formerly of Williamson, died Saturday, May 4, 2002.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Weaver Mortuary.

Polly Marie Slone

Polly Marie Slone, 85, of Lucasville, Ohio, formerly of Williamson, W. Va., died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Edgewood Manor, Lucasville, Ohio. She was born February 4, 1917, at Perry Ridge, Wayne Co., W. Va., to the late John Kirk and Lucy Prince Kirk.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Slone.

Mrs. Slone was a homemaker and was a member of the Chattaroy Church of God.

Surviving are her daughters, Glendean Slone Blackburn, Simponsville, S.C. and Barbara Slone Smith, West Portsmouth, Ohio; brother, Grady Perry, Clearwater, Florida; five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2002, 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Ron Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Monday morning, May 6, 2002, 10 a.m. until time of the service, at Weaver Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Otto Tiller

Otto Tiller, 75, of Newtown, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at ARH Skilled Nursing facility. He was born December 24, 1926, at Matewan, W. Va. and was the son of the late Lawrence Tiller and Susie Tipton Tiller.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Hatfield Tiller; brother, Frank K. Tiller; and sister, Dixie Ledford.

Mr. Tiller was a disabled coal miner.

Surviving are his daughters, Dixie (Jimmy) Cline of Newtown and Polly Sue (John) Curry, of Dunlow, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey K. Edwards of Michigan, Phillip Cline of Georgia, Stephanie Williamson of Wayne, and Chris Curry of Dunlow.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2002, 11 a.m., at Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with Harvey Grimmet officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery at Straight Fork at Newtown, W. Va.

Pallbearers for the service will be Jimmy Cline, John Curry, Johnny Hatfield, Roby Chafin, Reo Bryant, Phillip Mitchell, Terry Steele and Bobby Steele.

Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Chambers Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home, Inc.

Coty Miller
Coty Miller, 49, of North Matewan, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 26, 1952 in Williamson, he was a son of the late Parris and Mazie (Fields) Miller.

Mr. Miller was a retired coal miner.

Survivors include two sons, Coty (Lou Ann) Miller III of Thacker and Justin Miller of Rock Hill, S.C.; a daughter, Candra Miller of Green Springs, Ohio; sisters, Tina Marie of Lexington, Ky., and Jeanette Miller of Rock Hill, S.C..; and one grandchild, Autumn Parris Miller.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Faith Mission Church at McCarr, Ky., with Jimmy Fields officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday from 6-9 p.m. with special services at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home Inc.

Edward Milam
Edward "Ed" Milam, 62, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at his residence.

Born June 24, 1939 in Rawl, he was a son of the late Ivan and Hettie Jane (Bowen) Milam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Cary.

Mr. Milam was a retired employee of Cullop Electric and attended the Burnwell Church of God and Burnwell Gospel Revelation Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Blackburn Milam of Burnwell; two daughters, Renee´ (Dwayne) Blackburn of Burnwell and Susan (Keith) Marcum of Forest Hills, Ky.; two brothers, Ivan Milam Jr. and Jimmy (Margaret) Milam, both of Rawl; three sisters, Octavia Harris and Ella Mae (Russell) Elkins, both of Rawl, and Linda (Bob) Saltsgaver of Marrow, Ohio; a special friend, Charles (Doug) McCoy of Burnwell; and three grandchildren, Whitley and Austin Blackburn of Burnwell and Keitley Marcum of Forest Hills, Ky.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at Rogers Funeral Home with Victor McCoy and Buddy Kendrick officiating.

Burial will follow in the McCoy Cemetery, Burnwell.

Pallbearers will be Rick Runyon, Doug McCoy, Mike Cullop, Steve Cullop, Bill Hardin and friends.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.

Oma Swiney
Oma Lee Looney Swiney, 56, of Breaks, Va., died Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Breaks Church of Christ, Breaks, Va.

Visitation began after 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.
