Rimer Stissel
Rimer S. Stissel, 95, of Woodstock, Ga., formerly of Williamson, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Woodstock Nursing Home.

He was born Aug. 24, 1907, at Thacker, a son of the late Peter and Julia Belinda Clenddenen Stissel.

Rimer was a longtime employee of the Williamson Daily News and a member of the First Baptist Church, Fifth Ave., Williamson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Stissel.

Rimer is survived by his daughter, Candace Tolbert, of Acworth, Ga., and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Ky., with Rev. John Mazarella presiding.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Williamson.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Paul Pigman
Paul L. Pigman, 70, of Rawl, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston.

He was born Feb. 5, 1932, a son of the late Paul G. and Martha Brown Pigman.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and William Pigman and one son, Michael Eugene Pigman.

A member of the Rawl Freewill Baptist Church, Paul retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad and served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Chapman Pigman; two sons, William C. "Skip" Pigman and Paul L. (Lenita) Pigman, Jr., both of Rawl; three brothers, Fred (Louise) Pigman and Terry (Tammy) Pigman, both of Ragland, and MacArthur (Edna) Pigman of Villa Grove, Ill.; one sister, Mary Ellen (Dom) Flores of Bensenville, Ill; and one sister-in-law, Zella Pigman of Rawl.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at the Rogers Funeral Home Chapel, Belfry, Ky.

Burial will follow in the Pigman Family Cemetery at Rawl.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Pigman, Paul Pigman III, Ryan Pigman, Mark Bono, David Anderson and Gene Chapman.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday and anytime Monday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Lydia Cline
Lydia B. Cline, 94, of Horsepen, W. Va., went to be with the Lord at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2003 at her residence.

She was born Nov. 15, 1908 in Isaban, W. Va., to the late Lafe and Rosa Cline Cline.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. "Bill" Surber; one grandson, Edmond Surber; one great grandson, Alex Surber; two brothers, Jonce Cline and Halsey Cline; and two sisters, Virginia Stevens and Barbara Mitchell.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Lydia will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include three sons, Charles (Irene) Cline of Galipolis, Ohio, William E. (Jean) Cline and Alfred (Betty) Cline, both of Gilbert, W. Va.; five daughters, Mae Miller, Virgie Grubb and Betty (Bill) Ballance, all of Chesapeake, Va., Ruth Ann Surber of Virginia Beach, Va., and Hazel (Bartley) Hunt of Gilbert; two sisters, Ruby Johnson of Princeton, W. Va., and Loraine Lester of Isaban, W. Va.; 11 grandsons, Roy Grubb, Kevin Grubb, Ken Surber, Greg Surber, Doug Surber, Randy Surber, George Berryman, Ray Ballance, Chris Hunt, Curtis Hunt and Adam Cook; nine granddaughters, Brenda Wigginton, Wanda Casto, Jennifer Miller, Debbie Hatfield, Denna Surber, Lori Watts, Lisa Ortez, Tiffany Cook and Angie Adams; 29 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with the Rev. Arville Cline officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hatfield Cemetery, Hampden, Sharon Heights, W. Va.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.

Steve Hatfield
Steve Hatfield, 46, of Bluefield, W. Va., formerly of Thacker, W. Va., died March 30, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital, Bluefield.

He was born July 23, 1956 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Edward Hatfield and Loney Blankenship Hatfield of Thacker.

He was a hotel manager and member of the First Christian Church of Bluefield.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Lawson Hatfield; son Edward Ray (Melissa) Hatfield of Bluefield, W. Va.; brother Micheal (Sherry) Hatfield of Louisville, Ky.; sisters Susan (Jake) McCoy II of Thacker, W. Va., Elizabeth (Mike) Beach and Priscilla Hatfield, both of Lexington, Ky., and Tina (Jasher) Norman of Barrenshea, Ky.; and one grandchild, Cameron Raelynn Hatfield.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with ministers Albert Lawson and Mike Cunningham officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lawson Family Cemetery, Right Hand Fork of Beech Creek.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation was held 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home Inc.

Raymonda Cline
Raymonda Jean Cline, age 60, of Columbus, Ohio, died Monday, March 31, 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William O. and Florna Cline; brothers, Leon B. and Lacy E. Cline.

She is survived by her sisters, Kathleen Taylor of Matewan, W. Va., and Louise (Douglass) Carr of Columbus, Ohio; brother, William R. (Lassie) Cline of Inez, Ky.; 10 nieces and nephews.

She formerly worked at A.R.C. Industries and a number of local restaurants including McDonald's, Schmidt's, and Ritzy's. She was a 26 year member of Mountview Baptist Church, where she especially enjoyed her Sunday school classes. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and loved music, dancing, dogs, and bowling, especially on Saturdays with her league from Franklin County.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Mountview Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio, where friends will be received one hour prior to the service from noon to 1:00 p.m. A burial will be held at the 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003 at Cline Family Cemetery, Inez, Ky. In lieu of flowers, Contributions may be made to Hospice at Riverside/Grant, 3545 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio 43214 or the Alzheimer, s Association of Central Ohio, 3380 Tremont Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221.

The Schoedinger North-west Chapel of Columbus, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.

Bert Howard
Bert Howard, 99, of Simon, W. Va., died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2003 at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2003 at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with the Revs. Gary Browning and Ravin Kenneda officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery, Gilbert.

Friends may call at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m.

Clista Ferrell
Clista Ferrell, 83, of Red Jacket, W. Va., died April 1, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Facility, Phelps.

She was born Oct. 27, 1919 at Blackberry Creek, Ky., a daughter of the late Riley Fields and Mary Hatfield Fields.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Ferrell; four brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Ferrell was a homemaker and member of the United Baptist Church at Blackberry City, W. Va., for over 50 years.

Survivors include a son, Eugene (Phyllis) Ferrell of Red Jacket, W. Va.; grandchildren Ricky (Stephanie) Ferrell of Mooresville, N.C., Angela (David) Dunbar of Mooresville, N.C., and Patty (Clarence) Gibson of Red Jacket, W. Va.; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Ferrell, Jenna Gibson, Courtney Ferrell, Krystle Gibson, Marissa Ferrell and Meghan Dunbar; and one brother, Willie Blankenship of Thacker, W. Va.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003 at Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with Walter Dehart and Eddie Layne officiating.

Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Chambers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home Inc.

Vicie Sumner
Vicie Sumner, age 92, of Columbus, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Mill Run Care Center. She was a baker retiring from Columbus Public Schools after over 15 years. She was born in Delbarton, W. Va., the daughter of Lorenzo and Tennessee Ferrell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, William L. Sumner in 1969. Vicie is survived by her children, James C. (Mary) Sumner, Naomi Sumner, Paul Sumner, John (Lawanna) Sumner and Esther (Ken) Sauls; grandchildren, Ricky Sumner, Roger Sumner, Kathy Hall, Brian Sumner and Todd (Suzanne, Capt. U.S.A.F.) Sauls, Major U.S.A.F.; 3 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sisters, Myrtle Hatfield, Nancy Weese and Ethel Wilson, all of Florida. She was happiest when she was gardening or cooking for others, whether at school, or for friends, neighbors or pot lucks at church. At her request, there will be no calling hours. Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003 at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens, Lithopolis, Ohio, with Pastor Dean Bohl officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mission Fund, c/o Radiant Life Church, 7055 Avery Road, Dublin, OH 43017, in her memory. Arrangements by Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio.

Elizabeth Daniels
Elizabeth Cisco Daniels, 78, of Beech Creek, W. Va., died April 3, 2003 in the intensive care unit of Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born Oct. 8, 1924 in O'Keefe, W. Va., to the late Dock Lee Cisco and Isabelle Ferrell Cisco.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Lee Daniels; son Roger Lee Daniels; infant daughters Betty and Sue Daniels; six brothers; and three sisters.

Mrs. Daniels was a homemaker and member of the Beech Creek Church of Christ.

Survivors include sons Rutherford Daniels, Tommy (Linda) Daniels and Phillip E. (Diana) Daniels, all of Beech Creek, W. Va., Jessie (Dottie) Daniels of Matewan, W. Va., and James Marion (Pam) Daniels of Beech Creek; daughters Isabelle (Billy Joe) Murphy and Rosetta (Doug) Kennedy, both of Beech Creek, and Goldie (Mike) Ray of Meador, W. Va.; sisters Lina Mahon of Beech Creek, Alta Daniels of Majestic, Ky., Goldie Hill of Beech Creek, Okey Edwards of Iaeger, W. Va., and Cora Mabes of Pedro, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Beech Creek Church of Christ with Evang. Bruce Murphy and Evang. Archie Kevin Blankenship officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cisco Cemetery at Grapevine Fork, Beech Creek.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the church with services at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Sampson Burnett
Sampson "Sampy" Burnett, 80, of Williamson, died April 3, 2003 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W. Va.

He was born Dec. 11, 1922 in Chattaroy, W. Va., to the late John Burnette and Hessie Moore Burnette.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Dingess Burnett; brothers Virgil, Don and Bud Burnette; and sisters Hazel Smith, Jessie Foster and Betty Scarberry.

He was a retired carman with the N&W Railway. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a tech sergeant with the fourth infantry during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 13, 1945 and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was an active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and member of the United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the TCIU.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Agnes (Joel) Anderson of Williamson; sisters Nina Trent, Lucy Byrge and Katherine Huff, all of Chattaroy; two grandchildren, Christina and Meredith Anderson; sisters-in-law Peggy Jo Justice and Sandra Burgraff, both of Williamson, and Virginia Justice of Clarksville, Tenn.; nieces Donna Burgraff of Kutztown, Pa., Stephanie Justice of Williamson, W. Va., Helen Childress of Fussa City, Japan, Kathy Farmer of Omar, W. Va., Karla Elliott of Clarksville, Tenn., Linda McMaster of Williamson, W. Va., Judy Harvey and Nina Lynn Huff, both of Chattaroy, and Michelle Stewart of San Diego, Calif.; nephews John Smith of Williamson, W. Va., Gary Justice of Clarksville, Tenn., Steve Tygart of Huntington, W. Va., and Mark Byrge of Akron, Ohio.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Blair officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, West Williamson, W. Va.

Pallbearers will be Gary Blackburn, John Smith, Richard "Ritchie" Wilkerson, Sonny Urps, Jackie Maynard and Richard Wright.

Honorary pallbearers will be Franklin Mounts, Dustan Rutherford, Darvin Maynard, Wallace Farley, Ben Stambough and Freddie Newsome.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 5, 2003 from 6-9 p.m. at Weaver Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.
