Carolyn R. Harris
Carolyn R. Harris, 67, of Sutton, WV passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Louis A . Johnson Medical Center in Clarksburg, after a long illness.
She was born December 21, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late William A. and Marian Davidson Weiss. Carolyn proudly served her country in the US Army. Carolyn was a P.V.A. (Paralyzed Veterans of America) board member. She was responsible for starting the first F.A.S. (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) Chapter in West Virginia. Carolyn also donated her time with Downs Syndrome children.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, John Harris of Sutton. Two sons, Timothy Harris of Portage, Michigan, and Harold Harris of New York. Four daughters, Patricia Dean of Flatwoods, Barbara Blake of Weston, Heather Harris of Charleston and Ashley Harris of Buckhannon. Also surviving are two brothers, William Weiss of Kankakee, Illinois, and Allen Reece of Spring, TX and sister Valerie Swanson of Illinois. Six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV with the Rev. Lonnie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters, WV with military graveside rites by American Legion Post #33 of Gassaway.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked for memorial donations to: P.A.V. 336 Campbell’s Creek Drive, Charleston, WV, 25306-6806.

Gerald Lee Cutlip
Gerald Lee Cutlip, Jerry, as his affectionately known by family and friends, died on Monday, May 5, 2008 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio after a very courageous battle of Lung Cancer. He successfully beat his illness, only to have a very aggressive cancer reappear in his liver in April. Still determined to beat this “evil foe” continued doing his “evil foe”, he continued doing his “daily chores” at his farm with help from family and friends.
Jerry was born August 4, 1940 in Sutton, WV to the late Harry and Dorothy Dillon Cutlip. He moved to Ohio the day after graduation on 1959, where he made his home.
A resident of Mantua since 1973, he was a meat cutter in Cleveland for Superior Meats in Aurora. He was the owner-operator of Jerrys Sohio-Jerry Mart in Mantua for over 30 years. He retired in 2003 to his farm. A man who had a passion for farming and raising beef cattle. Jerry loved all animals.
Jerry loved to BBQ fresh spareribs, his own special farm raised steaks and burgers. His refrigerators were always filled for his family and friends when they would drop by, which was usually every weekend and several evenings through the week. Jerry cooked fresh burgers outside on the grill for his sisters when they visited him in November.
John Wayne “The Duke” was his favorite actor, and Jerry was known on more than once occasion to express his fondness for “Howdy Pilgrim”. Jerry was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the Meat Cutters Local Union in Cleveland.
On August 22, 1998 Jerry married Shirley J. Underwood Cutlip who survives at their home. Also surviving is one son, Scott (Lisa) of Shalersville, two daughters, Kimberly Byers of Hiram, Lisa (Gary) Urban of Mantua and two step-children. Brother, Johnnie Cutlip, two sisters, Wilda (Bud) Skidmore and Linda (Richard) Nettles all of WV. His grandchildren, Ashley, Josha, Dillon, Tucker, Emma, Jaon, and Brandon and his 2 devoted dogs, Blue and Cody.
Services were held at the Greene Family Funeral Home in Mantua. Burial followed in the Hillside Cemetery in Mantua. Honoring Jerry as pall bears were Joshua Cutlip, Jason Carlton, Shayne Cutlip, Mike Liester, Barky Zoller and Harry Buchett.
Memorials may be made to the Mantua-Shalersville Fire Fighters Association, Rt. 44, Mantua, Ohio 44255.

Howard Paul Holland
Howard Paul Holland, age 83 years, a resident of South Davis Avenue, Elkins, WV, formerly a resident of 1330 Kanawha Boulevard, Charleston, WV, departed this life May 11, 2008 at Barbour County Good Samaritan Center. He had been in declining health, having suffered a stroke in 2006.
Mr. Holland was born February 10, 1925 at Heaters, WV, a fraternal twin son of the late George Roy Holland and Mariam Lough Holland. Preceding Mr. Holland in death besides his parents were two sisters, his twin Helen P. Holland and Mary H. Gainer, both of Elkins, WV, two brothers, Billy Joe Holland of Heaters, WV and James R. Holland of Sutton, WV, and one nephew James Paul “Jim” Holland of Charleston, WV. Mr. Holland was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
On 7 May 1949, Mr. Holland was married to the former Minnie Dee Dorsey, who preceded him in death in September 24, 1962. Surviving Mr. Holland is one daughter, Katherine H. “Kathy” Sbarra, Elkins, WV, two nephews George R. “Rusty” Gainer , Buckhannon, WV, Roy Carl “Rocky” Holland and wife, Karen, great nieces, Katie and Mary Grace, and great nephews Michael and Matthew, Budapest, Hungary, one niece Betty Jane “Betsy” Holland, Charleston, WV and great niece Mariam Holland, Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Holland graduated from Sutton High School with the class of 1944 and had attended WV Wesleyan College. He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was employed by Union Carbide South Charleston, WV having retired in 1985. Mr. Holland was a Mason, a member of Charleston Lodge No. 153 and a member of Elks Lodge No. 202 of Charleston, WV. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charleston, WV where he had been active as church treasurer and choir member. More recently, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elkins, WV. Mr. Holland enjoyed the broadcast services from First United Methodist each Sunday while he resided at Good Samaritan Center.
The family received friends at the Green-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton, WV on Friday, May 16, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, the funeral hour. The Reverend Doctor Eileen Dumire, Asbury Methodist Church and the Reverend Doctor Ellis Conley, First United Methodist Church officiated. Interment followed in the Marple Cemetery in Heaters, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Barbour County Good Samaritan Center, Route 3, Box 15-C, Belington, WV 26250, or Asbury United Methodist Church, 501 Elizabeth Street, Charleston, WV 25311, or First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Avenue, Elkins, WV. Green-Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dolsie Mable Corley
Dolsie Mable Corley, age 98 of Glendon, Braxton County passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the home of her son in Orlando, FL, where she made her home for the past two years.
She was a homemaker and the widow of Dana Corley, who passed away April 29, 2003.
Dolcie was born on March 19, 1910 the daughter of the late Melvin and Blanche Young Ramsey.
She was a member of the Elk River Baptist Church and a member of the Gassaway Eastern Star Chapter #32.
Surviving is one son, Harry L. and wife Jerrie Corley of Orlando, FL; daughter, Margaret McLaughlin and husband Larry of Beckley, WV; granddaughter Dana Lynn Young and husband Tim of Jacksonville, FL, 2 great grandchildren Carissa and Carter Young of Jacksonville, FL and a dear niece, Sandra Kay Smith of Parkersburg, WV.
She is preceded in death by brothers, Dana Ramsey and Garland Ramsey and one sister, Edna Susan Hall.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with the Pastor Darrell Mollohan. Eastern service was held on Monday evening.

Emma L. Stout
Emma L. Stout, 73, of Copley, passed away May 14, 2008. She was born on November 17, 1934 in Braxton County, WV. Emma was a loving mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed but forever loved by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Burt and son Dennis; her parents Cecil and Susan Loyd; brothers James and Freddie. She is survived by her sons Dan and Ken, daughters in law Laura and Ann; seven grandchildren of whom she was very proud: Stephanie, Teresa, Andrew, Ashley, Michael, Jamie, Emily and Cristin; sisters: Polly, Ann and Mary of WV; Betty of SC; brothers: Raymond of NY, Jerry, Eugene, Frank and Billy Joe of WV and very special friends Marty Knapp and Gladys Anderson.
Emma was a member of the Copley Township Historical Society. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Barberton Hospital of the Coronary Care Unit; and neighbors Jim and Gail and their three sons.
A Funeral Service was held Monday at 11:00am at Hummel Funeral Home. Interment at Copley Cemetery. The family requests memorial to be sent to the Copley Historical Society at PO Box 4037 Copley, Ohio 44321.

Betty Barnett Hovis
Betty Barnett Hovis was born in Braxton County January 14, 1933. She died on April 25, 2008 in Zelienople, PA.
Surviving are her husband, Lee Hovis; sons, Clifford of Michigan, Duane of Ocean Springs, MS and Daniel of Renfrew PA; daughter, Anita Boutwell of Ocean Springs, MS.
Also surviving are one sister, Nettie Groves of Sutton, WV and one brother, Oley H. Barnett of Ocean Springs, MS.
Burial was in Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, PA.
She was a Christian and a member of the Zelienople Church of Nazarene. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Luther G. DeMoss
Luther G. DeMoss, 84, of Birch River, left his earthly home on Monday, May 5, 2008 to his mansion in the sky. He was the son of the late Otis and Lula Mae Lawson DeMoss and was born at Morris, April 19, 1924. He was retired from the WV Department of Highways with 18 years service.
He was also preceded in death by sisters, Bertha DeMoss and Carolyn Cavendish and brothers, Dana Leo and Leonard DeMoss.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Alma Jane Shaver DeMoss; 4 sons, Rick (Vicki), Randy (Joy), James (Pam), Jeff (Cathy); brother, Lonnie DeMoss; 4 sisters, Beulah Bail, Janie Acree, Gladys McClung and Vergie Carte; grandchildren, Kim and Brian McPherson, Richie, Brandi and Jamie DeMoss, Shane and Brittany Casto and Stephanie and Josh Moore; Great grandchildren, Brooke DeMoss and Brayden McPherson, who always brought a smile to his face.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 9, 2008 at the Waters Funeral Chapel at Summersville with his brother-in-law, Rev. Kenneth Adkins officiating. Burial followed in the DeMoss Family Cemetery on the Dille-Widen Road at Birch River.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Shank, MD and Suzanne Wantz MD and the associates of Fairview Health for all their special care and attention during Luther’s illness, along with the nursing staff at Summersville Memorial Hospital for their kindness.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.

Rodney Lee Moss
Rodney Lee Moss, 68, of Cedar Creek Road, Cedarville, departed this life at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, in the WVU Medical Center, Morgantown, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 16, 1940, in Cedarville, Gilmer County, and was a son of the late Earnie and Clara L. Beall Moss.
Rodney was a retired carpenter and builder, an Army veteran, a graduate of Normantown High School and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed riding horses and four-wheelers to see a panoramic view. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, where he faithfully attended.
On Oct. 7, 1967, he was married to Ruth Doan Moss, who survives at their Cedar Creek home.
Three sons survive: Farron Lee Moss and wife, Issa, of Boston, Va., Ryan Moss of Cedarville, and Douglas Moss and wife, Cindy, of Glenville. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Miah, Kyle, Ana, Ella, Seth and Wyatt Moss.
He is also survived by three sisters and their husbands, Itella Moore of LaGrange, Ohio, Rosalie and Kent Hibben of Oberlin, Ohio, and Evelyn and Gary Drake of Burnsville; and five brothers and their wives, Arnols and Mary Moss of Cedarville, Roy and Kay Moss of Parsons, Roland and Janet Moss of Elyria, Ohio, Ronzel and Beverly Moss of Petrolia, Texas , and Dallas and Lois James of Columbia Station, Ohio.
Rodney was preceded in death by three sisters, Othelia Lindsey and Naomi and Reva Moss.
A going home funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at Ellyson Mortuary, Glenville, with Elder Michael Richardson and Elder Roger Stewart officiating. Burial followed in Cedarville Cemetery.
Friends called from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
Ellyson Mortuary Inc. assisted the family of Rodney L. Moss with arrangements.

Joshua Andrew Harris
Joshua Andrew Harris, 22, of Burnsville, WV, entered into an eternal peaceful rest on August 27, 2008. He was born May 23, 1986 in Weston, WV, to Andrew and Patti Harris. He was employed by Bundy Auger Mining as a loader operator.
Joshua is survived by his wife, April Hurst Harris, his beautiful baby boys, Kaidan Andrew and Kordail Jo Harris, his parents, his maternal grandparents, Farrel and Beverly Hoover and Jeanne Young, his maternal great-grandmother, Laura Barnett, numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ottis and Peggy Harris, his paternal great-grandmother, Rachel Hoover, and his baby sister Cassidy Renae Harris. Joshua was an avid lover of the outdoors and his family. He will be truly missed. We thank you Heavenly Father for blessing us with Joshua.
Funeral services were held August 31 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Hornish of Shiloh Fellowship officiating. Burial was in Hoover Family Cemetery in Little Birch.
