Delores Hall
Delores Hall, 72, of Omar, died May 26, 2003, at Guyan Valley Hospital. Born June 7, 1930, in Ragland, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Smith Justice and Goldia Holbrook. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Hall; one daughter, Judy Adair Eldreth; two sisters, Ada Brook Justice and Joyce Justice Chapman.

She is survived by one daughter, Goldie Hall of Omar; a sister, Ollie "Heath" Hardin of Decatur, Tenn.; and 12 grandchildren including two grandsons, Douglas "Shea" Eldridge of Williamsontown, Ky. and Douglas Curry Jr. of Omar, W. Va.; four granddaughters, Delorse Frasure of Pennsacola, Fla, Eva "Chris Rector of Marshall, NC, Melissa Sue "Dale" West of Lansing, MI and Crystal Dawn Spriggs of Omar, W. Va. Crystal was a devoted loving caretaker during her last years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pat Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney Cemetery at Ragland. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Thursday, from 6 - 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Collins Funeral Home, Switzer, W. Va.

Lyss Thompson, Jr
Lyss Thompson, Jr., of Williamson, WV, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. He was born in McAndrews, Ky., to the late Lyss Thompson Sr. and Audrey McGranahan Thompson.

He was a graduate of Belfry High School and attended Pikeville College. He was a retired sales representative with Bluefield Supply Co., Bluefield, WV a past worshipful master of O'Brien Masonic Lodge 101, AF&AM and a Shriner. He owned and showed Tennessee walking horses for many years and was an avid supporter of that breed. He was a Christian.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Litton Thompson; brother, Joe W. (Virginia) Thompson of Huntington, WV; nephews, Joel and Elton Thompson both of Huntington, WV and Gregory Thompson of Lexington, Ky.; caregivers, Paul Caudill Jr and Kevin Gregory, both of Williamson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at 8 p.m. at Weaver Mortuary with Minister Joe Cochran officiating. Entombment will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.

Pallbearers are Wallace Weddington, Gary Davis, Paul Caudill, Jr., Kevin Gregory and Gregory Thompson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2003, 6-9 p.m. at Weaver Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Helen Simpkins

Helen I. Simpkins, 82, of Richwood, formerly of Beech Creek, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Richwood Community Hospital.

She was born April 21, 1921, in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Lester and Mable Adkins.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Simpkins and a brother, Lester Adkins, Jr.

She was a retired school teacher with the Mingo County Board of Education, having taught at Beech Creek Grade and Red Jacket Junior High schools for over 30 years.

Helen was a member of the Beech Creek Church of Christ.

She is survived by a son, Robert L. Simpkins, Jr., of Collinsville, Ill.; a daughter, Mable Ann Vaughn of Summersville; a brother, J.C. Adkins of Ben Creek; four sisters, Louise Simpkins of Rome, Ohio, Vivian Miller of Lynchburg, Va.; Betty Taylor of Logan, Ohio, and Margaret Mahon of Meador; six grandchildren, Robert L. Simpkins III, Benjamin Simpkins, Jill Simpkins, Nathan Vaughan, Joel Vaughan and Robert Vaughan; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services are schedule for 1 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2003, at the Beech Creek Church of Christ with Bruce Murphy officiating.

Burial will follow in the Simpkins Cemetery at the right hand fork of Beech Creek.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home of Matewan.

Samuel Tilden Waller Jr.

Samuel Tilden Waller, Jr., 85, of Richmond, VA., formerly of Williamson, WV., died Wednesday, May 7, at his residence.

Born April 1, 1918 at Aflex, Ky., he was the son of the late Samuel T. Waller and Rosa Cline Waller.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Luther Waller and Clyde Waller; a grandson, Brooke Ray; a sister, Blanche Craig, and sister-in-law, Katherine Waller.

A graduate of Williamson High School and West Virginia University, he was a retired financial officer with the state of West Virginia. He was also appointed by Gov. William C. Marland as Director of Purchasing during his administration.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Williamson. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

He is survived by daughter, Drusilla W. Ray, Richmond, VA., and nephews Jeffrey (Debbie) Waller and Samuel A. Waller, all of Williamson, WV.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Greg Blair officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at West Williamson.

Pallbearers will be Ben Coleman, Sr., Ben Coleman, Jr., George Poole and Jim Kirk. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeff Waller.

Visitation will be Friday evening, May, 9, 2003 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 276, Williamson, WV 25661.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson, WV.

Harold E. Justice
Harold E. Justice, 67, of Justice, W. Va. died Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Bluefield, W. Va.

Born July 29, 1935, at Justice, W. Va., he was the son of Ireland and Onie Toler Justice of Justice, W. Va..

He was married to Patricia M. Deskins Justice of Justice, W. Va., who survives.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kent Tracy "Weasel" Justice; two infant sisters, Rita and Bethel Justice; two sisters, Peggy Justice and Dottie L. Davis, and a special uncle, Audra Justice.

A retired equipment operator with Island Creek Coal Company, he was a member of the Justice Tabernacle Church at Justice, W. Va., and a member of the UMWA Local Union 7555, District 17.

Other than his parents and wife, he survived by a son, Jeffery "Poss" Justice; two brothers, Richard "Dick" and wife (Norma) Justice of Bear, Delaware, and Ronald and wife (Donna) Justice of Bridgeton, N.J.; two sisters, Donna Jean and husband (Cliff) of Philadelphia, PA. and Dimple and husband (Mike) Tolley of Justice, WV.; three grandchildren, Joshua and wife (Paula) Justice of Gilbert, WVa., Brian Justice of Burnsville, W. Va. and Christy Justice of Burnsville, W. Va., and eight special friends, Sandra Belcher, of Gilbert, W. Va., Freda Brown of Gilbert, W. Va., Randall Staten of Coal Mountain, W. Va., Dwayne Walls of North Spring, W. Va., Estil Stacy of Justice, W. Va., Gelenious Cline of North Spring, W. Va., Roger Endicott of Gilbert, W. Va., and Bill Ferguson of Justice, W. Va., and a host of family and friends.

Friends may call the Justice Tabernacle Church at Justice, W. Va. Monday evening, May 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Justice Tabernacle Church, Justice, W. Va. with Rev. Randall Staton and Rev. Carl "Cab" Wolford officiating.

Burial will be at the Nathan Justice Family Cemetery at Justice, W. Va.

Active pallbearers will be Jason Tolley, Marty Ray Hatfield, Joe Lester, Ricky Dale Toler, Richard Justice and Allen Justice.

Honorary pallbearers are Estil Stacy, Gelenious Cline, Clifford Hatfield, Dwayne Walls and Terry Hamrick, Sr.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Galycan
Lillian "Sis" Sally Galyean, 82, of Beckley, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born August 10, 1920, in Isaban, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Jess and Hattie Surber Cline. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Arley Galyean; one granddaughter, Adrionna Galyean; one sister, Jessie Lockhart; a brother, Charlie Clifford Cline and an infant brother. She was a of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her two sons, Jennings C. "Boyd" (an wife Janet) Galyean of Baisden, W. Va. and Benny (and wife Linda) Galyean of Isaban, W. Va.; five daughters, Norma (and husband Bob) Hand of Bristol, Va., Bobbie Galyean of Beckley, W. Va., Bernice Galyean of Beckley, W. Va., Stella "Beebe" Ritchie of Waterloo, In., and Karen (and husband Robert Allen) Silvers of Bluefield, W. Va.; sisters, Alta Jones of Mohawk, W. Va., Eunice "June" Jarrett of Leonardtown, Md., and Pauline Allnutt of Tampa, Fl.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great grandson due for arrival in September.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Full Gospel Church of God, Baisden, W. Va. with Revs. Jonas Trent and Learmon Mounts officiating. Burial will follow at Four Pole Cemetery, Mohawk, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-11 p.m. at Full Gospel Church of God at Baisden, W. Va.

Glen Huffman, Jr.
Glen Arlin Huffman, Jr., 46, of Tamcliff section of Gilbert, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

Born June 20, 1956, in Man, W. Va., to the late Glen Arlin Sr. and Jean Marie Hamm Huffman, he was a coal miner. He attended Tamcliff Tabernacle Church at Tamcliff section of Gilbert, W. Va. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Arlin Huffman and a sister, Loney Mae Ball.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Mary Huffman, Tamcliff section of Gilbert, W. Va.; two sons, Glen Arlin III (and wife Trinity) Huffman of Oak Hill, W. Va. and David Glen (and wife Jennifer) Huffman of Tamcliff section of Gilbert, W. Va.; one daughter, Kelly Jean Huffman and fiance Hansford Lee Slater of Charleston, W. Va.; two sisters, Susie Caldwell of Oak Hill, W. Va. and Nancy LeMasters of Rittman, Ohio; three grandchildren, Taylor Madison Slater of Charleston, W. Va., and Ashton Huffman and Seth Huffman, both of Oak Hill, W. Va.; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2003, 1 p.m. at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Godby Heights, Pecks Mill, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, from 6-9 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert, W. Va.

Byrd Farley

Byrd Farley, 84, son of the late Perry Anderson and Nancy Jane Farley, of Crum, W. Va., passed away Friday, May 9, 2003, in the Cabell-Huntington (W. Va.) Hospital following a lengthy illness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 siblings; his lifetime wife, Mae Richardson Farley; an infant son, Roger Farley; and two grandsons.

He is survived by one sister, Maudie Smith and her husband Warren of Columbus, Ohio; four sons, Charles Farley and his wife Ina of Taylorsville, N.C., James Ronald Farley and his wife Mildred of Columbus, Harvey Farley and his wife Ann and Terry Farley and his wife Donna, each of Crum, and Jerry Farley; two daughters, Nancy Elaine Stumbo and her husband Danny of Lavallette, W. Va., and Ann Marcum and her husband Ronald of Crum; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 12, 2003, at 1 p.m., at the Warfield Chapel of Richmond Callaham Funeral Home with Manuel Ferguson and Everett Meddings officiating. Burial will be follow in the Parsley Cemetery at Crum.

Visitation will be at the funeral home. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday.
