Patricia Vance
Patricia Ann Vance, 61, of Justice, W. Va., went to be with the Lord at 12:15 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

She was born on May 25, 1941, in Herndon, W. Va., a daughter of Reba Brown Brinkley of Oceana, W. Va., and the late Arnold Brinkley.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, Angel Nicole Nickles; two brothers, Harold Brinkley and Beryl Brinkley; and one sister, Norma Jean Amburgy.

Mrs. Vance was a retired postmaster (North Spring Div.) of the United States Postal Service. She was a member of Justice Tabernacle Church.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband of 44 years, Charles Vance of Justice; one daughter, Regina (James) Nickles of Justice; one son, Tommy (Stacey) Vance of Jonesborough, Tenn.; two brothers, Danny Brinkley and Robert Brinkley, both of Oceana; three sisters, Joyce Cawley of Vinton, Va., Kathleen Cooper and Dana Mullens, both of Oceana, W. Va.; and three grandchildren, Hunter Nickles of Justice, Bianca Stone and Dakota Whitson, both of Jonesborough, Tenn.

Funeral service was 1 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with the Revs. Clifford Rawls and Johnny Jones officiating.

Burial followed in the Davis Cemetery at Justice.

Active pallbearers were Horace Vance, Junior Staton, Lee Hatfield, David Simpson, Kent Vance and Kenny Mitchell.

Friends called on Sunday at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va., was in charge of the arrangements.

Jim Lester
Jim Lester, 65, of Sprattsville Section of Gilbert, went to be with the Lord at 12:01 a.m. May 18, 2003 at the Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Division, Charleston, W. Va.

He was born Dec. 7, 1937 in Verner, W. Va., a son of the late Buel and Lola Davis Lester.

Jim was a retired coal miner for Hampden Coal Company. He was a member of the Verner Community Church at Verner, W. Va. He walked in the ways of the Lord and was faithful for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and Marine Corp.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Alice New Lester of the Sprattsville Section, Gilbert, W. Va.; two sons, James Eric (Angela) Lester of Hanover, W. Va., and Mark "Moe" (Lori) Lester of Sprattsville, W. Va.; three grandchildren, James Cole Lester, Ashton Faith Lester and Autumn Hope Lester, all of Hanover, W. Va.; two brothers, Larry Lester and Roger Lee Lester, both of Amarillo, Texas; and one sister, Joyce Ann Kennedy of Clayton, N.C.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with the Rev. Earl Lester officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dye and Browning Cemetery, Verner, W. Va.

Active pallbearers will be Estill Hilton, Harry Grimmett, Buck Hatfield, Ronnie Mounts, Carlos Mounts and Curt Lester.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dempsey Carter, Benny Joe Thompson, Dusty McGuire, Earl Lester and Tom Lester.

Friends may call at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert, W. Va., on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. with special services beginning at 7 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Alexander
Robert Alexander, 86, of Vinson St., Williamson, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.

Born April 4, 1917, in Ringold, Ga., he was the son of the late Henry Alexander and Hattie McMillian Alexander.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Michael Alexander and 12 brothers and sisters.

He was a retired Eastern Coal Corporation employee, member of the United Mine Workers of America, Past President of Local Union 5737, City Council member for 18 years in Williamson, member of Tug Valley Housing Authority, member of the Silver Haired Legislation for Mingo County Senior Citizens, and on the Board of the Mingo County Senior Citizens. He was a former owner of Alexander Dry Cleaners in Williamson and a member of Logan Street First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Liberty High School.

Surviving are his sons, Guy Curtiss Alexander of Williamson and Steve Alexander of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughters, Bobbie Childress of Williamson and Patricia Ann Alexander of Columbia, Md.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Logan Street First Baptist Church, Williamson, W. Va. with Rev. Gerald Dotson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va.

Visitation will be held Friday night, 6-8 p.m., at Logan Street First Baptist Church in Williamson.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.

Myrtle Mullins

Myrtle Hatfield Mullins, 82, of Barboursville, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2003 in St. Mary's Medical Center.

Born October 15, 1920 in Wyoming County, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Nancy Morgan Miller.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 30, 2003, at Chapman's Mortuary with the Rev. Eugene R. Houck officiating. Entombment is in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.

Audrey Harmon

Audrey June Harmon, 78, of Varney, passed away Monday, June 30, 2003 at her residence.

Complete arrangements are currently unavailable and will be announced by James Funeral Home, of Logan.

Hayes Dingess

Hayes Eugene Dingess, 72, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Monday, July 7, 2003, at Grant Medical Center in Ohio.

Born April 26, 1931, in War Eagle, W. Va., to the late Bruce and Lina Cline Dingess, he was a U.S. Army veteran and of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Burns Dingess and Hurston Dingess; and sister, Gloria Dingess Ford.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Blackburn Dingess of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Roxanne Dingess and Deanna Lynn Dingess; sisters, Diane Collins of Maynardsville, Tenn. Judy Christian of Columbus, Ohio, Wanda Dean of Piqua, Ohio and Dimple Mahon of Matewan, W. Va.; brothers, Kenneth Cox of Matewan, W. Va. and Harold Cox of Lynn, W. Va.; grandchildren, Justin, Cody, Savannah, Craig and Wesley Dingess.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003, 1 p.m., at the Lynn Freewill Baptist Church at Lynn, W. Va., with Revs. Bill Moosley, Mike Case and Larry Hubert officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney Cemetery at Lynn, W. Va.

Pallbearers are Ronnie Kennedy, Lee Looney, Bruce, Brian, Mark and Hayes Ford, Michael and Donnie Dingess, Randy Wood and David Cline.

Visitation will begin Thursday, July 10, 2003, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the O.R. Woodyard Co. Chapel in Columbus, Ohio. Visitation will then be held on Friday, July 11, 2003, at the Lynn Freewill Baptist Church at Lynn West Virginia at 5 p.m. with a service being held at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phelps Funeral Service at Phelps, Ky. and O.R. Woodyard Co. Chapel in Columbus, Ohio.

Robin Clark

Robin R. Clark, 33, of Chicago, Ill., passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2003, in the Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

She was born Feb. 7, 1970, in Defiance, Ohio, and was the daughter of James T. Clark of Delbarton and Maxine Childress Snyder of Chicago, Ill.

She is also survived by three daughters, Jeniffer, Savanna, and Amanda Clark, all of Chicago, Ill.; a paternal grandmother, Ruby Clark of Delbarton, W. Va.; aunts and uncles, Edith and Buddy White of Varney, W. Va., Nick and Ruth Childress of Forest Hills, Ky., Burl and Barbara Childress of Columbus, Ohio, George and Virgie Childress of Berrysville, Va., Barbara Johnson of Chicago, Ill. and Faye and Ked Marcum of Glenwood, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Saturday morning, July 12, 2003, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Russell Ray Taylor and Rev. Jay Marcum officiating. Burial will follow in the White Cemetery at Laurel Creek, W. Va. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at the Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Grubb

Linda Diann Grubb, 60, of Sharon Heights, W. Va., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at her residence.

Born August 3, 1942, in Marlinton, W. Va., to the late Forrest Scott and Gilda Howard Browning, she was a homemaker.

She attended the Horsepen Southern Baptist Church at Horsepen, W. Va. and the Calvary Baptist Church at Iaeger, W. Va. She enjoyed making quilts and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving is her husband of 37 years, Billy Jack Grubb of Sharon Heights (Gilbert, W. Va.); and four daughters, Kimberly K. (and husband Teddy) Halterman of Mar-linton, W. Va., Melodie R. (and husband Bobby) Fritsch of Perryville, Md. Rebecca L. (and husband Larry) Bar-ton of Elkton, Md. and Jacklyn M. (and husband Darrell) Tucker of Bruns-wick, Ga.; one son, Michael C. Grubb of Brunswick, Ga.; one step-son, Terry E. (and wife Angie) England of Charleston, W. Va.; four sisters, Barbara Casteel of Marlinton, W. Va, Clara Gum of Beckeye, W. Va., Wanda Halterman of Greenbank, W. Va. and Sherry Buttrey of Elkton, Md.; one brother, Billy Howard of Marlinton, W. Va.; and seven grandchildren, Teddy Halterman, Chris Halterman, Ryan Fahringer, Justin Tucker, Courtney Tucker, Samantha England and Tristan Barton. She will also be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, July 13, 2003, 2 p.m. at Mountview Cemetery in Marlinton, W. Va., with Rev. Shawn House officiating. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers and her grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Friends may call the Horsepen Southern Baptist Church at Horsepen, W. Va. Saturday evening, from 6-9 p.m. with special services beginning at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Horsepen Southern Baptist Church.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.

Maude S. White

Maude S. White, 90, of Williamson, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, W. Va.

She was born on Sept. 27, 1912, in Logan, W. Va., to the late A.Q. "App" and Isabelle Collins Spry.

Mrs. White was a graduate of Logan High School and was a hostess instructor with Weaver Airlines in the earlier years of her life. She was one of the first telephone operators to be employed by C&P Telephone Company. She was also a former secretary for he Williamson City Police Department.

She was an active and dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson for more than 50 years. She was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the ladies circle and longtime choir member. She was one of the founding members of the Tug Valley Choral Society and she established the Monday Night Bridge Club. She was also a member of the Williamson Women's Club.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her two husbands, Noble Jenkins and Lyle White; one brother Jessie A. Spry; and two sisters, Carrie Browning and Crettia Everett.

She is survived by her loving brother, James Spry of Dunbar, W. Va.; and sister Lucinda Issacs of Pinellas Park, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2003; at the Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson with the Rev. Tom Schuller officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Barboursville, W. Va.

Pallbearers will be Sam Steele, Mike Balwin, Cecil Varney, Matt Gilliam, Dr. John Thambi, Jimmy Hays and Bob Gilliam. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Barrett, Howard Persinger, Nick Marodus, Dr. Steven Wilson and Dr. Diane Shafer.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, July 21, at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church Choir Fund, 29 West Sixth Ave., Williamson, WV 24661.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Ella Jenkins

Ella Francis Scalf Jenkins, 87, a lifetime resident of Delbarton went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

Born on Jan. 9, 1916, in Martin County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late George and Laura Stepp Scalf. She was a homemaker and a member of the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jenkins is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Jenkins, one daughter, Mildred Kennedy, seven brothers, Joe, John, Howard, Estil, Emory, George and David Scalf; and two sisters, Mary Baisden and Minnie Curry.

She is survived one son, Earl "Eddie" (Donna) Jenkins of Pataskala, Ohio; three daughters, Sallie J. (Mac) Hall of Williamson, Earlene Hopson of Grove City, Ohio, and Darlene (Ronnie) Dalton of Inez, Ky.; one sister Goldie (Hubert) Mahon of Ragland; 22 grand children; and 36 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Chafin Funeral Home of Delbarton with the Rev. Ron Paige officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, July 20.

Eva Young

Eva Young, 68, of Delbarton, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 14, 1935, in Bias, she was the daughter of the late Flem and Betty Hensley Stafford. She was a homemaker and a member and mother of the Reach Out Community Church in Lando.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Young; one daughter, three brothers; and three sisters.

Mrs. Young is survived by four sons, George Stafford of Mount Crawford, Va., Julius "Jr." Young of Dunlow, W. Va., Ricky Young of St. Albans, and Eugene Young of Lovely, Ky.; four daughters, Carol Painter of Williamsburg, Ohio, and Jewell Dempsey, Darlene Smith, and Pam Fraizer, all of Delbarton; one sister, Reva Davis of Delbarton; 15 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Chafin Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Clifford Rawls officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenore Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Julius Young, Eugene Young, George Stafford, Gary Sturgell, Marvin Frazier, and Tom Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the church.

Visitation will be at the funeral home be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, July 19, with special services at 7 p.m.

Peggy Hatfield

Peggy Hatfield, 54, of Sprigg, WV went to visit Jesus Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

Mrs. Hatfield was born on May 3, 1949, at Hatfield, Ky., to the late William Thomas and Martha Inas Jackson Fraley. she was a retired office employee of The Kroger Company and active member of the Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church. She was associated with the March of Dimes Walk America for 11 years and received the Spirit Award in 2003. Also, she was chairwoman of the West Virginia Mental Health Association, member of the Moose Club, two-time congressional committeewoman representing Mingo County, member of the Matewan Women's Club, past president and treasurer of the Mingo County Democratic Women's Club and a member of the Magnolia Fair Committee for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lowell Thomas and Tommy Ester Fraley.

She is survived by her husband, Mingo County Sheriff Tennis H. Hatfield; two stepdaughters, Diana Lynn (Jim) Varney of Columbus, Ohio, and Sherri Elaine Tilley of Kermit; three brothers, Wendell (Joan) Fraley of Louisville, Ky., Paul (Diane) Fraley of Turkey Creek, Ky., and Donnie (Ruby) Fraley of Meta, Ky.; five sisters, Margaret (Oscar) Stepp of Hatfield, Joanne (Blake) Williamson of Canada, Ky., Alice Cochran of Hatfield, Edith Fraley Clark of Sidney, Ky., and Betty (Bobby) Robinson, of Turkey Creek; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Verlin Epling officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatfield Family Cemetery in Sprigg.

Pallbearers will be the Mingo County Sheriff's deputies.

Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Owens, Grant Preece, Halcy Hatfield, James Pack and the deceased's three brothers, Wendell, Paul and Donnie Fraley.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Chambers Funeral Home of Matewan. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Chambers Funeral Home of Matewan.
