Fredonia Cook

Fredonia Collins Cook, 72, of Valdosta, Ga., passed away Monday, July 14, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center.

Born August 7, 1930, in Christian, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Jennings and Polly Huff Perry.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2003, 2 p.m. at Bruno Church of God with Rev. Roger Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, W. Va.

Mounts Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ray Cline

Ray Vaughn Cline, 37, of North Spring, W. Va., passed away Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Reddy Creek Campground, Baileysville, W. Va.

Born June 29, 1966, in Welch, W. Va., he was the son of Arthur Mack and Nealie Cline Cline.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Arthur Cline. He was a coal truck driver and of the protestant faith.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Gladys Highlander Cline of North Spring, W. Va.; daughter, Randi LaKeisha Highlander of the home; son, Larry Kyle Cline of the home; brothers, Gelenious Cline of North Spring, W. Va., Danny Cline of North Spring, W. Va. and Ernest Cline of North Spring, W. Va.; sisters, Freda Cline of Baisden, W. Va. and Irene Endicott of North Spring, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2003, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, of Gilbert, W. Va. with Elders of the Old Regular Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery.

Family may call the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert, W. Va. Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements.

James F. Hardesty

James F. Hardesty, 44, of Mingo Manor Nursing Home, Williamson, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Williamson ARH.

Born October 5, 1958, to Richard Hardesty and the late Ruby Jean Gooslin Hardesty, he was a disabled coal miner of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by stepmother, Judy Hardesty of Matewan; and stepdaughter, Crystal Hammond.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Hardesty of McCarr, Ky.; son, James Brandon of the home; special friend, Ira Evans; brothers, Ricky Hardesty, Ocie Hardesty, Bobby Hardesty and Mike Hardesty, all of Georgia; sister, Belinda "Sissy" Hardesty of Georgia; one grandchild, Thomas.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2003, 1 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Lockard officiating. Burial will follow at the Gooslin Cemetery, Peter Fork, McCarr, Ky. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 6-9 p.m., at the Chambers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Home, Inc.

Iretha Elliott

Iretha Elliott, 78, of Matewan, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2003, at ARH South Williamson, Ky.

Born October 11, 1924, in Mingo County, W. Va. to the late Virgil George and Laura Smith George. She was the former vice president of Superior Electric, Inc. and a member of the First Assembly of God at Matewan, W. Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Elliott; sisters, Mabel Hammond and Virginia Collins; and brother, E.J. George.

Surviving are her son, Danny (Pam) Elliott of Matewan, W. Va.; and grandchildren, Brandon Tyler and Sean Parker Elliott.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2003, 11 a.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lowell Sparks and Dr. Allen Shouse officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, after 6 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Omega Bible Academy, Box 217, North Matewan, WV 25688.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Barbara Tackis Porter

Barbara Tackis Porter, 74, of Nags Head, NC died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at her residence.

Mrs. Porter, born in Williamson, W. Va., was a retired bookkeeper for Roberts Morris Men's Store and was a Baptist. She was the daughter of the late Pete and Thelma Black Tackis and the widow of the late William O. Porter, Jr.

Mrs. Porter is survived by three sons, William O. "Billy" Porter, III and Christopher Adam Porter, both of Nags Head, NC and David Runyon of Brooklyn, NY; a sister, Marie Pullum of Wisconsin; and one grandchild.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dare County Hospice, P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, N.C., 27954.

Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo is handling arrangements.

Frances Ann Musico Smith

Frances Ann Musico Smith, 73, of Williamson, died at her home on Tuesday, July 15, 2003.

She was born August 25, 1929, to the late Joe and Carmella Musico. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Smith; sister, Minnie Swader; and brother, Alesio Musico.

Survivors include one daughter, Julie A. Miles; special children, Nora and Russell Mullins, Ann Athey, Bryan and Della Blankenship, Terri and Randy Hagy, Lillian Jordon, Teria and Randy Keathley, Julie and David Miller, Joann and Will Steele and Mary Yagodich; special care givers and friends, Nancy Boling and Wyona Hayes of Waverly, Ohio, Roy and Helen Cochrane of Huntington, W. Va., June Glover, Ruth Ann Hagaman, Carol and Sam Steele; one brother, Sammy James Musico of Mississippi; Sallie the cat; one grandcat, Nosey; the nurses and staff of Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville, W. Va.; and a host of friends, nieces, an uncle, aunts, and cousins.

She began her career in finance, going to WBTH, where she was Traffic Manager and Mary Mistletoe for 25 years. After retiring from WBTH, she became secretary and office manager at Sacred Heart School where she was employed until the time of her death.

She was a member and past president of the National Secretaries Association, a member of the Tug Valley Choral Society, and a member of the Women of the Moose. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and past choir member.

A wake service and visitation will be held at Weaver Mortuary Thursday evening, July 17, 2003, 6 - 9 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Friday, July 18, 2003, 11 a.m. with Rev. Harold Dunn presiding. Altar servers will be Jordon and Joseph Hagy.

Burial will be at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va. Pallbearers will be Bryan Blankenship, Randy Hagy, Randy Keathley, David Miller, Russell Mullins, and Sam Steele. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Cochrane and Frank Demartino.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dignity Hospice, P.O. Box 4304, Chapmanville, WV 25508.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Jane Rockel

Jane Rockel, 73, of Dingess, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at CAMC Memorial hospital.

She was born June 6, 1930, in Beckley, W. Va., to the late George and Mattie Talbert Shrewsbury.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Sherman Scott Rockel; one brother, Howard Shrewsbury; and one sister, Macie Church.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Sherman Rockel of Dingess; four daughters, Linda (Steve) Denney of Pleasant Garden, SC, Robin (Larry) Charles of Mill Creek, Karen (Dennis) McCloud and Tonya (Benjamin) Browning, both of Dingess; five sons, Noah Robert (Glinda) Rockel of New Lebanon, Ohio, Carl David (Christy) Rockel of Williamson, Ricky (Debbie) Rockel of South Point, Ohio, Larry (Debbie) Rockel and Mark (Peggy) Rockel both of Dingess; one sister, Anna Tucker of Cleveland, Ohio; 26 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003, 2 p.m., at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elbert Collins Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Pallbearers are Noah Robert Rockel, Terry Ballard, Mike Spangler, Jerry Payne, Brad Debord and Larry Harvey. Honorary pallbearers are D.J. McCloud, Larry Rockel II, Paul Aaron Rockel, Barrett Browning, Jason Smith and Carl Harkins.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2003, 6-9 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of James Funeral Home of Logan.

Christine Flora

Christine Flora, 51, of North Manchester, In., passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at her residence.

Born March 2, 1952, in Wayne County, W. Va., to the late William Whitt and Ersie (Newsome) Whitt, she was supervisor at Marshall Electric for 10 years. She was a member of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake, In.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are her husband, Max H. Flora; daughter, Mrs. Christopher (Melissa) Damron, North Manchester, In.; brothers, Harold Whitt of Kermit, W. Va. and Curtis Whitt of Kermit, W. Va.; sisters, Helen Meade of Kermit, W. Va. and Ruth Blankenship of North Manchester, In.; and one grandchild, Madison Damron.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003, 10 a.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel, with Revs. Frank Whitaker and Larry Cripe officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, In.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 18 from 2- 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Wabash Cancer Society or Heartland Healthcare and Home Hospice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary.

James F. Hardesty

Mildred Thompson

Mildred Thompson, 74, of Williamson, WV died Thursday, July 17, 2003 in the Mingo Manor Nursing Home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Rogers Funeral Home.

Pearl Hoover
Pearl Hoover, 84, of Scarlet Road, Rt. 1, Delbarton, WV, passed away July 27, 2003 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Barbara J. and Clarence Ooten.

Born May 2, 1919 in Delbarton, WV., she was the daughter of the late Jim and Fannie Star Lawson.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Don Hoover; a son, James Roy LaPrad; four brothers, Conner, Hie, Bryant, and Lafie Lawson, and three sisters, Nellie Doyle, Arlene Marcum and Mae Barger.

She was a homemaker and of the Protestant Faith.

Survivors, in addition to her daughter, include a brother, Archel Lawson of Orlando, FL.; three sisters, Biddie Copley of Wayne, WV., Rebecca Sheppard of Delbarton, WV. and Bonnie Ooten of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Lena Kaye Gilman of Delbarton, WV., Ellen Marie Shock of Grantsville, WV., Kenneth W. Ooten of Delbarton, WV., Clarence Ooten, Jr. of High Point, NC., Richard Ooten of Logan, WV., Allen, Paul and Donnie LaPrad of Proctorville, Ohio, and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Tuesday, July 29, at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Joaquine Ooten officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawson Cemetery at Delbarton, WV.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday evening, July 28, 2003 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be James, Paul and Donald LaPrad, John Richy and Clarence Ooten.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Julius Hatcher

Julius (Poncho) Hatcher, 60, of Williamson, W. Va., departed this life on Sunday, July 6, 2003.

He was born May 22, 1943, in Pike County, Ky. Julius was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Hatcher, father, Julius Oscar Hatcher and brother, Wilbert Franklin Hatcher.

Survivors are his ex-wife, Maxine R. Lawrence of Williamson, W. Va.; three sons, Julius (Tonya) Hatcher III, Timothy D. Hatcher and Wilbert Hatcher, all of Williamson, W. Va.; three daughters, Angela (Angelo) Patton of Hardy, Ky., Tammy (Clayborn) Dotson and Hazel (Mark) Smith, all of Williamson, ; two brothers, Vernon Merrill of Lexington, Ky. and Larry Merrill of Klamath Falls, Ore.; one sister, Patricia Grimes of Huntington, W. Va.; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003, 1 p.m. at Christ Temple Church, Williamson, W. Va. with Elder Thomas Moore officiating. Burial will follow at M. View Memory Gardens at Maher. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday.

Pallbearers are Johnny Willis, Will Bradley, Tony Robinson, Burnett Dotson, Donnie Wilkerson and Clayborn Dotson. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Smith, Paul Joyce, Eugene Thorn Jr., Tyrone Wagner, Leroy Robinson and Norman Phillips.

Service is under the direction of Preston Funeral Home of Charleston, W. Va.
