Benny White Sr.

Benny John White Sr., 63, of Groveport, Ohio, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at the James Cancer Hospital.

He was the son of the late William M. and Lillian Hopkins White Sr. He was retired from the shipping and receiving department of Sears and Roebuck with 41 years of service and a member of the new Beginnings Church of god.

Mr. White is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley White; daughter, Shella Ann (Brett) Butts of Westminster, S.C.; son Benny John (Mary) White Jr. of Bowling Brook, Ill.; grandson, Andy Butts; sisters, Jo Sanders, Beaumont, Texas, twin sister, Betty Jean Hill of Powell, and Karen Sue Billiter of Majestic, Ky.; and brothers, William White Jr. of Ypsilanti, Mich., and David A. White of Ann Arbor Mich.

Friends may call at the Myers Funeral Home in Groveport on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at 11 a.m., with the Revs. Mike Lesley and James Daugherty officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Hills cemetery.

James Totten

James Pat Totten, 80, passed away at 4 a.m. on Sept. 22, 2003 at CAMC in Charleston, W. Va.

Born Nov. 25, 1922 at Delbarton, he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Evans Totten. He is survived by wife Shirley Gay Hercey Totten.

Mr. Totten was a member of the First Baptist Church at Varney, W. Va. He worked as an educator in Mingo County Schools, having earned a B.A. at Concord College and an M.A. at West Virginia University.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Ferrell of Swannanoa, N.C.; one sister, Lahoma Curry; and a brother, Frank Totten Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Phil) Hoppe of Mobile, Ala., and Kathy McDonald (Charles) of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Timothy Ferrell of Asheville, N.C., and Jennifer Hoppe of Dallas, Texas.

Also, stepmother Alada Fraley; brothers W.C. (Janet) Totten, Albert (Betty) Totten, all of Delbarton, Charles Totten of Smithfield, Va., and Clinton (Betty) Totten of Crum; one sister, Rose Simpkins of Elyria, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Totten greatly enjoyed his retirement, gardening and fishing and camping with family and friends on his beloved Cranberry River.

At his and the family's request, there is no memorial service planned.

Charley Hensley

Charley Hensley, of Lenore, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003 at CAMC Memorial, Charleston.

He was a son of the late William and Roxie Hensley.

He was the owner of The Revivalmen.

Services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Freeman Funeral Home in Chapmanville with Ministers Roger Ooten and Andy Dillon officiating.

Burial will follow at the Farley Cemetery on Rock House at Harts.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 7-11 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

David Pitsenberger

Dr. John David Pitsenberger died August 31, 2003, of a heart attack while vacationing in Nashville, Tenn.

He was born January 14, 1936, in Williamson, W. Va. He was the son of the late Ira Albert and Mary Jay Cornett Pitsenberger.

He practiced pediatrics in Huntington, W. Va. before relocating to Fort Wayne, Ind. David was retired and living in Bozeman, Mont. He was an Air Force Veteran and a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving is his friend Amy of Bozeman, Mont.; a brother, Don M. Pitsenberger and his wife, Beverly W. of Ashland, Ky.; three children, John David and his wife Tracy of Bozeman, Mont., Stephanie Jean and her husband Scott Cook of Roanoke, Va. and Dale Albert and his wife Julie of Glenn Allen, Va.; six grandchildren; a nephew, Dan Stephen Pitsenberger of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two nieces, Susan Russell of Cincinnati, Ohio and Dr. Cynthia Burmaster of Oradell, N.J.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Ironton, Ohio, with Rev. Sallie Schisler officiating.

Miller Funeral Home in Ashland, Ky. is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Huff

Mary Katherine Huff, 65, of Chattaroy, W. Va., passed away Monday, September 22, 2003, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born January 25, 1938, in Chattaroy, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late John Burnette and Hessie Moore Burnette. Mary was a graduate of Chattaroy High School. She was retired from the United State Postal Service with 11 years service as the post mistress of the Chattaroy, W. Va. post office. She was a member of Grace Baptist Temple.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Virgil, Don, Bud Burnette, Sampy Burnett; sisters, Jessie Foster, Hazel Smith and Betty Scarberry.

Surviving are her husband, Ronald M. Huff; daughter, Nina Lynn Huff of Chattaroy, W. Va.; sisters, Nina Trent of Chattaroy, W. Va. and Lucy Byrge of Chattaroy, W. Va.; and nieces and nephews, Linda and Ronnie McMaster of Williamson, W. Va., Judy and Jim Harvey of Chattaroy, W. Va., Jo Agnes and Joel Anderson of Williamson, W. Va., John and Rose Smith of Williamson, W. Va. Steve and Kathy Tygart of Wayne, W. Va., Dr. Mark and Jennifer Byrge of Akron, Ohio, Ann Mundis and Brent Mundis of Maryland, and Vada Burnette of Orlando, Fla.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003, 1 p.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Ron Sanger officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, Sept. 24, 2003, 6-9 p.m. at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Matt Jackson

Matt R. Jackson, 64, of Varney, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at his home.

Born May 1, 1939, in Mingo County, W. Va., to the late Corbin Jefferson Jackson and Vergie Johnson Jackson, he was a retired state road department worker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Collins Jackson; one son, Thomas Dewey Jackson; and a sister, Vicie Lucinda Jackson.

Surviving are his sons, Jeff Jr. Collins of Big Splint, W. Va., Danny D. Collins of Ohio, Earl Collins of Oceana, W. Va. and Billy Jackson of South Carolina; daughters, Patsy Ruth Jackson; Lilly Sue Brakes of South Carolina and Donna Jean Kenneda of North Carolina; brother, Herman Jackson of Delbarton, W. Va; and sister, Lorene Jackson of Delbarton, W. Va.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003, at noon, at Family Cemetery at Laurel Creek with Rev. Mike Bostic officiating. Burial will follow at Family Cemetery at Laurel Creek, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, W. Va.

Mabel Franklin

Mabel N. Franklin, 77, of Hanover, W. Va., passed away Monday, September 22, 2003, at Duke University Hospital.

Born May 24, 1926, in New River, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Lena Bowling of Newport.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 26, 2003, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home with Rev. Alvin Brooks and Rev. Bernard Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in the Palm Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mounts Funeral Home, Inc. of Gilbert, W. Va.

Barbara Ellen Brown
Barbara Ellen Brown, 74, of Williamson, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2003, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, S. Williamson, Ky.

Born March 5, 1929, in Pike County, Ky. to the late James Pennington and Ida Earl Pennington, she was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Temple.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ashby Brown and daughter, Deloris Brown.

Surviving are her sons, Ashby and James Brown, both of Williamson; brother, James Pennington, Jr.; and sisters, Nora Pennington of Michigan and Peggy Boatwright of Texas.

Funeral services will be private with Rev. Ron Sanger officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Darlene Faith Evans
Darlene Faith Evans, newborn daughter of Joseph and Angela Evans, passed away at birth Tuesday, September 23, 2003, in the Logan General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by a grandfather, Basil Evans, and four great grandmothers and great grandfathers.

Surviving in addition to her parents are sister, Sarah Evans of Belo, W. Va.; brothers, Samuel Evans of Belo, W. Va. and Justin Baisden of Delbarton, W. Va.; grandparents, Marcella and Andrew Hall of Sheppardtown, W. Va., Sam and Trena Branham of Ohio and Lucille and J.B. Wright of Tennessee; aunt, Debra (Wilburn) Jude of Lenore, W. Va.; uncle, Kenny (Robin) Evans of North Carolina; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church Thursday morning at 11 a.m. September 25, 2003 with the Elder Eddie Layne officiating. Burial will follow in the Ooten Cemetery at Scarlett Road, Trace Creek, W. Va.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mac Hall
Mac Hall, 69, of Lenore, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at Lenore, W. Va.

Born January 24, 1934, at Lenore, W. Va., he was the son of the late Wilburn K. Hall and is survived by his mother, Sarah Vinson Hall of Lenore, W. Va.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Curtis Hall, Grover Hall and Teddy Hall.

Mac was the beloved husband of Sallie Jenkins Hall for more than 48 years.

He was the father of Macs Edwin Hall of Chattaroy, W. Va., Moniqua Suits of Dayton, Ohio, Wilburn Keith and Catherine Hall of Hendersonville, Tenn., Teresa Melanie Hall of Charlotte, N.C. and Brian Scott and Lorraine Hall of Hampton, Va., and the proud grandfather of Justin Hall of Huntington, W. Va., Wilburn Keith Hall III of Pensacola, Fla., Ryan Hall of Chattaroy, W. Va., Matt Suits of Dayton, Ohio and Nathan and Jacob Hall of Hendersonville, Tenn.

He is survived by mother, Sarah V. Hall; sister, Dr. Gail Hall; and brother, Clevis Hall, all of Lenore, W. Va.

Mac was a lifetime member and pastor of the Little Dove Church of Christ for over forty years. He worked in the Mingo County School system as a teacher, coach and principal. After retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher and assistant principal, enjoying influencing the lives of young people.

Previously, Mac worked in the South Point, Ohio, school system as a senior and junior high principal.

Active in education and community affairs, Mr. Hall participated as a coach and referee for various sports at all levels. In 1962 he was selected as the Kiwanis Coach of the Year. Mac held various offices as a Mason and worthy patron of the Eastern Star. Mr. Hall served as treasurer of the Delbarton Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Scottish Rite. Mac worked with various community organizations to fulfill those in need.

Funeral services will be held at the Little Dove Church of Christ at Lenore, W. Va., Friday, September 26, 2003, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mitchell Bias officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va. Masonic rites will be administered.

Visitation services will be at the church Thursday from 6-9 p.m., along with a memorial reception at the Mingo Christian School.

Pallbearers will be members of the Delbarton Kiwanis Club.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Sizemore, Bill Duty, Albert Totten, W.C. Totten and Billy Barger.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Week of Compassion Christian Church (DOC), P.O. Box 1586, Indianapolis, Ind., 46206.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton, W. Va.

Michael Keith Blankenship
Michael Keith Blankenship, 36, of Vulcan, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at Vulcan of Edgarton, W. Va.

Born September 23, 1967, in Franklin County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Artemus Pete Blankenship and Virginia Blankenship.

Surviving are his brothers, Artemus Blankenship Jr. of Red Jacket, W. Va., Gary Ray Blankenship of Freeburn, Ky. and Curtis Dale Blankenship of Majestic, Ky.; and sisters, Debra Blankenship of Ohio and Tammy Lynn Blankenship of Stopover, Ky.

Graveside services will be held Friday, September 26, 2003, at noon, at Billy Dotson Cemetery at Phelps, Ky. Burial will follow at the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, W. Va.

Charlie Smith
Charlie Smith, 75, of Red Jacket, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center of Phelps, Ky.

Born July 16, 1927, in Hillsville, Va., to the late Floyd Smith and Laura Damron Smith, he was a retired coal miner and of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Smith Jr.; brother, Samuel Smith; and sister, Ruth Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Lecco Smith of Red Jacket; special friends, Roby and Barbara Chafin of Meador and their children, Helen and Robert Andrew, all of Meador and David Huddle of Ona, W. Va.; and sister, Virginia Hope Newton (Earl) of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Funeral services were Friday, September 5, 2003, at noon, at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Terry Joe Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at Mtn. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 4, 6-9 p.m. at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services.
