Holly Marie Justus
Holly Marie Justus, 20, of Sevierville, Tenn., formerly of the Gilbert and Mohawk area, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn.

Born April 28, 1983, in Man, W. Va., to Jerry Dean Justus of Mohawk, W. Va. and Ruth Marie Manuel Justus of Statesville, NC, she was a student at Tennessee School of Beauty, Knoxville, Tenn. She worked as a sales clerk and was of the Baptist faith. She was a 2001 graduate of Gilbert High School at Gilbert, W. Va. where she was homecoming queen in her senior year.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Triston O'Ryan Vannatter; paternal grandfather Arvil Lee Justus; and maternal grandfather Woodrow Thomas Manuel.

Surviving in addition to her parents are her fiance Justin Lance Vannatter of Sevierville, Tenn.; future mother-in-law Kim Buchanan of Sevierville, Tenn; future father-in-law Clarence C. Vannatter of Baisden, W. Va.; paternal grandmother Nellie Ruth Justus Lester of Panther, W. Va.; maternal grandmother Mildred June Manuel of Welch, W. Va.; special step-grandfather Elder David Lester of Panther, W. Va. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 21, 2003, 1 p.m. at Little Dove Old Regular Baptist Church of Guesses Fork, Va. with Elder Danny Hurley, Elder George Thomason, Elder Paul Boggs and Elder Roger Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Justus Family Cemetery, Right Hand Fork, Bulls Creek, W. Va.

Serving as pallbearers are Ashley Vannatter, Chad Slone, Rockey Asbury, Ralph Manuel, David Sparks and Brandon Walls.

Friends may call the Little Dove Old Regular Baptist Church at Guesses Fork, Va., Friday and Saturday evening after 6 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va. is in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Casey Dale
Evelyn Casey Dale, 61, 1212 Vanleer Avenue, Johnson City, Tenn., died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at her home after a lingering illness.

She was a Freeburn, Ky. native and had lived in Johnson City since 1963.

She was employed as a machine operator at ITT and Snap-On Tools, Johnson City.

Mrs. Dale attended Faith Chapel.

Mrs. Dale was preceded in death by her father, Elliott Casey, one sister, Jean Phillips and two brothers, Larry Casey and Harold Phillips.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Dale; one daughter, Sharon Jean Dale, Greeneville; her mother, Mollie Hall Sizemore, Johnson City; three sisters, Joan Doyle and Louise Whitehurst, both of the Tampa, Florida area and Vickie Perry, Bluff City; two brothers, Lewis Casey, Hernando, Florida and Jackie Phillips, Lake City, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service for Mrs. Dale will be conducted 1 p.m. Sunday in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Harold Jones will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday.

Interment will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Dale, Bob Dale, Freddie Coleman and Oliver Harris, Jr.

The family would like to convey a special thank you to the Johnson City Medical Center and Hospice for the exemplary care Mrs. Dale received during her illness.

Arrangements are by Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City.

Hannah Wright Fuqua
Hannah Wright Fuqua, 71, of Charleston, formerly of Williamson, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003 in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

She was a registered nurse retired from Thomas Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Charleston Seventh-Day Adventist Church and pianist for St Paul A.M.E.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 17, at Charleston Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Her survivors include brother, Richard Wright of Williamson.

Carlie Avis Robertson-Maynard
Carlie Avis Robertson-Maynard, 77, of Williamson, W. Va. went to be with the Lord Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003 at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born May 23, 1926, at Lick Creek, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late William Harrison Maynard and Chloe Ann McKinney Maynard.

Carlie was a graduate of Williamson High School. She enjoyed a teaching career spanning 18 years. She had taught at Chafin Elementary, East Williamson Elementary and Lenore High School. She retired while teaching at Delbarton Grade School. Carlie was a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church and Women of the Moose.

Carlie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her former husband, Jessie L. Robertson, Sr.; three brothers, Burl, Stark and Tennis Maynard, and two sisters, Vernie Maynard and Maxine Kennedy.

Surviving are a son, Jessie L. Robertson, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Brenda June Robertson and her husband, Tom, of Williamson, W. Va.; a sister, Juanita Maynard-Jones, Montgomery Village, Maryland; four grandchildren, Jill Davis-Maynard and her husband, J.B., of Paris, Ky., Bridgett Davis Cunningham and her husband, Rob, of Winfield, W. Va., Melissa Robertson of Roanoke, Va., and Michelle Layne Thomas and her husband, Ritchie, of Danbury, N.C., and four great-grandchildren, Morgan Elise Maynard, Emma Rae Maynard, Kaylee Amber Robertson and Hollie Grace Cunningham.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Allen Shouse officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.

Pallbearers will be the men of the East Williamson Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, September 30, 2003, 6-9 p.m. at Weaver Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Jeanne Heaton
Jeanne Heaton, 76, of Delbarton, W. Va. passed away Sept. 27, 2003 at the Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, W. Va.

Born Sept. 29, 1926 in Delbarton, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Rebbecca Brewster Browning.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Heaton.

Mrs. Heaton was a member of the Delbarton Church of God and a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Stewart and his wife, Anna Jean Browning, of Whitman, W. Va.; special friends, Alexis Hunt, Pat and Maxine Evans; Niece Ava Jean and Bill Peck.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., October 1, 2003, with Rev. Mitchell Bias officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-9.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Walter Mathew 'Corky' Williams
Walter Mathew "Corky" Williams, 87, of Varney, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at the Pineview Nursing Home, Beaver, Ohio.

Born March 9, 1916, in Mingo County, Walter was a son of the late James Monroe and Francis Christian Williams.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Williams, and three sisters: Delphia Chafin, Della Gray and Mary Middleton.

A retired coal miner, Walter was a disabled veteran having served in WWII and the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include a son, Jimmie Ray Berry of Chapmanville, W. Va.; a brother, Cliff "Bam" Williams of Varney; two sisters, Gracie Hall of Delbarton and Daisy Williams of Round Rock, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel, Delbarton, with Rev. Randy Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery at Varney.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday only at Chafin Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton.

Lonis Mahon
Lonis Mahon, 55, of Matewan, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, Ky.

Born Feb. 27, 1948, in O'Keefe, W. Va., he was the son of Lina Cisco Mahon of Beech Creek and the late Harley Mahon, Jr.

Lonis was a disabled coal miner with Kentucky Carbon Coal Corporation and of the Church of Christ faith. He was the lead singer and guitar player of the Lonesome Valley Bluegrass group.

In addition to his mother, Lonis is survived by his longtime companion, Lois Mahon of Matewan; a son, Howard Allan Mahon of Toler, Ky.; a daughter, Wena (Kenny) Gannon, of Hardy, Ky.; two brothers, Harley Bruen (Robin Mahon) of Blackberry City and Danny (Lois) Mahon of Wharncliffe; four sisters, Juanita (Don) Palm, of Greenville, South Carolina; Agnes (Freddie) Sherburn of Taylor, Michigan; Imajean (Ronnie) Honaker and Margaret (Carl) Caldwell, both of Beech Creek; seven grandchildren, Destiny, Ashley, Paulina, Shane, Austin, Jessica and Nikki; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel, Toler, Ky., with evangelists Gene Clemons and Lewis Smith presiding.

Burial will follow in the Kennedy Cemetery at Beech Creek.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel, Toler, Ky.

Ruth Litton Thompson
Ruth Litton Thompson, of Williamson, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

She was born on January 16, a daughter of the late Albert and Louisa Evans Litton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lyss Thompson, Jr.; two brothers, Hiram T. Litton and Thomas Dewey Litton; and a sister, Helen Litton.

Ruth was a retired secretary with Banks Miller Supply Company. She was a graduate of Chattaroy High School and Bowling Green Business College. She and her late husband were owners of and showed Tennessee Walking horses for many years and were avid supporters of the breed.

Ruth was a Christian.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Joe W. and Virginia Thompson of Huntington, W. Va.; three nephews, Joe Thompson and Elton Thompson, both of Huntington and Gregory Thompson of Lexington, Ky.; her only niece, Carole and her husband, Sam Steele of Chattaroy; and two care givers, Paul Caudill, Jr. and Kevin Gregory, both of Williamson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Weaver Mortuary in West Williamson with Rev. Joe Cochran officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will take place from noon until time of service on Saturday at the mortuary.

Arrangements are under direction of Weaver Mortuary.

William P. 'Billy' Birchfield
William P. "Billy" Birchfield, 37, of Madison, W. Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, as the result of a mine accident.

He was preceded in death by his parents James A. "Raymond" and Clara J. Stacy Birchfield and a brother Gary E. Birchfield.

Billy was a member of the Isaban Baptist Church, a certified mine foreman, a graduate of Iaeger High School and was employed by Progress Coal Company.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy; two daughters, Cami Birchfield and Jaime Birchfield, both at home; a brother, Joe Birchfield of Isaban; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will conducted at noon, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, W. Va., with Rev. James Bostic officiating.

Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison, W. Va.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the funeral home.

Michael 'Mike' David Hill
Michael "Mike" David Hill, 44, of Red Jacket went to the arms of the Lord Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003.

Born August 29, 1957, in Williamson to Freeman Eugene Hill and Rosa Lee Hite Hill, he was a coal miner, but became disabled from injuries he received in a car accident.

He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents James and Roxie Hite; paternal grandparents Denny and Allie Hill; and two infant brothers.

Surviving are his father and mother, Freeman Eugene and Rosa Lee Hill of Red Jacket; son, Jeremy Hill of Red Jacket; daughters, Lindsay Hill of Red Jacket; and Kyla Hill of Red Jacket; sister, Barbara (Steve) Gooslin of Pikeville, Ky.; niece, RoseAnna (Dusty) Coleman; nephews, Steve (Natalie) Gooslin and Matthew Gooslin; many loving aunts and uncles; and special aunt, Mrs. Daisy Steele of Red Jacket.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at 2 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Snodgrass officiating. Burial will follow in the Hill Family Cemetery, Grapevine Fork, Beech Creek.

Serving as pallbearers are Matthew Gooslin, Steve Gooslin II, Chris Cohenour, Dusty Coleman and Danny Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Gooslin, Jimmy Vance, Ed Williams, Danny Halley, Frank Fitch, Jimmy Steele, Mitch Hager, Bill, Hansford, Ray, Harold, Estel and Roosevelt Hill.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.
