Richard Keith (Rick) Hurley
Richard Keith (Rick) Hurley, 43, of Red Jacket, W. Va., passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003, at his residence.

He was born October 24, 1960 in Williamson, W. Va. He was a disabled coal miner.

He was preceded in death by mother, Elsie Mae Hurley and Jerry and Maxine Hurley.

Surviving are his wife, Melody Hurley of Red Jacket, W. Va.; son, Steven Michael Hurley; daughter, Lea Dawn Hurley; son, Brandon Tate Hurley; son, Peyton Christopher Hurley; son, Cory Shae Hurley; and granddaughter, Paris LaShae Hurley. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Jane Scott; five brothers, Dalton (Annette) Francis of Enterprise, Ala., Joe (Judy) Francis of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jim Bob (Bonnie) Francis of Champsville, W. Va., Michael (Monica) Hurley of Slaters Branch, Ky. and Jerry (Rhonda) Francis of Strawberry Lane, La.; six sisters, Patty Adkins of South Williamson, Ky., R. Kay Thacker of Williamson, W. Va., Glenna (Robert Jr.) McCoy of Burnwell, Ky., Tomi Hurley of Delbarton, W. Va., Martha Sue Thacker of Banner, Ky. and Judy (Gary) Holden of Florida; special brother-in-law, Mickey (Jamie) Thacker and nephew, Mickey Lee Thacker II; special niece Kristin Hurley; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Porgie and Jean Lecco, Raymond and Valerie Meade, James Pack, Larry Thacker, Jack and Vicki Mullins, Sherman and Nita Lester, Jimmy Young, Tim at NAPA, Josh Hurley, Kayla Hammon, Jessica Horton and Club 12, David and Teresa Ball, Goldie, Vercie, Jesse and friends.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2003, 7 p.m., at First Assembly of God Church, North Matewan, W. Va. with Pastor Lowell Sparks officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.

Rick, there's only one you and I'll always love, miss and remember you. You'll always be in my heart and my dreams. Now and forever, your wife for life -- Melody Hurley.

Alice Virginia Kendrick
Alice Virginia Kendrick, 60, of Elkhorn City, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Mt. View Health Care, Pikeville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Justice Funeral Home.

Louise Jarrell Farley
Louise Jarrell Farley, 88, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at the Logan Regional Medical Center in Logan, W. Va.

Mrs. Farley was born April 21, 1915 in Pounding Mill, Va. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Edna Martin Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, John Jarrell and Clyde Farley; two brothers, James and Henry Wright, Jr.; three sisters, Ora Mae Anderson, Marie Wallace and Mattie Joyce; one granddaughter; and one great granddaughter.

She was a homemaker and was of the Church of God faith.

Mrs. Farley is survived by five sons, Bobby (Betty) Jarrell of Delbarton, W. Va., Jimmy (Verla) Jarrell of Pikeville, Ky., John (Eva) Jarrell of Columbus, Ohio, Gene (Sandy) Jarrell of Seattle, Wash., and Clyde (Rhonda) Farley of Kermit, W. Va.; four daughters, Beatrice (Jerry) Chafin of Rutledge, Tenn., Jackie (Dick) Frazier of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Linda Wellman and Donna (Barry) Grimmett of Delbarton, W. Va.; four sisters, Ruth Rutherford of McCarr, Ky., Mable Maynard of Beckley, W. Va., Margie Wyatt of Stuart, Va., and Betty Thompson of Ridgeway, Va.; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Saturday, November 8, 2003, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Bobby Perry and Rev. Lewis Hall Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Jarrell Cemetery at Elk Creek, W. Va.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 - 9 p.m. Friday evening.

Linda Sue Mikailian
Linda Sue Mikailian, 61, of Chattaroy, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at St, Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W. Va.

Born March 29, 1942, in Williamson, W. Va., to the late Kenneth Hopkins and Eloise Adair Hopkins, she was a lab technician with many years of service with Williamson Memorial Hospital where she enjoyed a host of friends. Mrs. Mikailian was a member of Delbarton Church of God.

Surviving are her husband, Harry Mikailian, Jr.; son, Harry Mikailian III of Chattaroy, W. Va.; a brother, Jimmy Roger Hopkins of Lincoln Park, Mich.; one uncle, James Howard Adair of Hudson, Fla.; one aunt, Lillian Gervas of Williamson, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 7, 2003, 1 p.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Mitchell Bias officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va. Serving as pallbearers are Paco Perry, Mark Bowens, David Ward, Mike Belcher, David Miller, Benny Lee Gooslin, Mark Hopkins and Harry Mikailian III.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, November 6, 2003, 6 - 9 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Tania Obey
Tania Obey, 40, of 325 Liberty Heights in Williamson, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at her residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Gregory Funeral Home.

Acie Mahon
Acie Mahon, 94, of North Matewan, died on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 17, 1909, in O'Keefe, W. Va., a son of the late Hiram and Polly Ann Evans Mahon. He was a retired miner from the Crystal Block Coal Company and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in World War II. He was a member of the North Matewan Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Georgia "Bess" Mahon; one daughter, Patsy Stump; three brothers, Nath, Harvey and Early Mahon; one sister, Pollyann Mahon; three granddaughters, Brandy Hardesty, April Mahon and Diane Stump.

Mr. Mahon is survived by his wife, Polly Mahon of North Matewan; three sons, Acie (Barbara) Mahon Jr. of Warren, Mich.; Hiram (Gloria) Mahon of Crum, W. Va., and Larry Mahon of North Matewan; three daughters, Delores Johnson of Matewan, Ruby (Robert) Ellis of Varney, and Rebecca (Russell) Hardesty of Red Jacket; one brother, Pliant Mahon of Thacker; four sisters, Maxie Stevens of Grundy, Va., Bertha Perry of Saltville, Va., Gertrude Daniels of Majestic, Ky., and Pollie Jessie of Ordway, Colo.; and nine grandchildren, Chris Blankenship, Andrea Hardesty, Edward Hardesty, Jonathan Ellis, Joseph Ellis, Megan Mahon, Chadwick Mahon, James Darrell Stump and Kenneth Stump. Also surviving are numerous friends and his church family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Satur-day, Nov. 29, 2003, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, Ky., with the Evangel-ists Birdie Williamson and Jess Spaulding officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher.

Grandsons and son-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28, at the funeral home with a special service at 7 p.m.

Draxie Bullock Smith
Draxie Bullock Smith, 77, of Matheny, W. Va., formerly of Inez, Ky., died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, in Beckley, W. Va.

She was born on July 28, 1926, in Martin County, Ky., to the late Homer and Emily A. Vanover Bullock. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emsey Smith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will conducted at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home.

Nuke Daniels
Nuke Daniels, 79, of Blackberry City, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at South Williamson ARH Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born June 4, 1924, in Pikeville, Ky. to the late W. B. Bud Daniels and Bessie Jane Gooslin Daniels, he was a retired coal miner having 60 years with UMWA. Mr. Daniels was the Church of God faith and was a veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Mounts; four brothers, William Bill Daniels, Macy Daniels, Paul Daniels and Peerless Daniels; and two sons-in-law, Oscar Layne and Michael Workman.

Surviving are his wife, Roxie Layne Daniels of Blackberry City, W. Va.; sons, Larry Ray Daniels (Madletta) of Pinsonfork, Ky. and Terry Wayne Daniels (Connie) of Huntington, W. Va.; daughters, Patricia Ann Layne of Matewan, W. Va., Glenna Sue Hatfield (Freddie) of Phelps, Ky. and Mary Magaline Workman of Blackberry City, W. Va.; brothers, Mason Daniels of Blackberry City, W. Va. and Walter Daniels of North Matewan, W. Va.; sisters, Maxine Rouch and JoAnn Maldrono both of Palm Springs, Cal., Mary Layne of Lecanto, Fla. and Alene Daniels of Newtown, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Nuke is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28, 2003, 12 noon, at Jamboree Church of God at Jamboree, Ky., with Revs. Willie Gordon and Marvin Casey officiating. Burial will follow at the Harris Cemetery at Thacker, W. Va., #11 Hollow.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at the church, at 6 p.m. with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Phelps Funeral Service at Phelps, Ky.

John Christopher Warden
John Christopher Warden, 45, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Monday, November 17, 2003, at his residence.

He was born November 18, 1958, in South Williamson, Ky., to Silas J. Warden and Christine Younce Warden of Delbarton. He was the former director of the Mingo County Ambulance Service and a former Delbarton Fire Chief. He was a member of the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. Warden was preceded in death by his brother, Wally Warden.

Surviving are his son, Christopher Dallas (Melissa) Warden of Marietta, Ga.; daughter, Judith Angela (Orville) Bailey of Marietta, Ga.; brothers, Ted Warden of Delbarton, W. Va. and Brian Warden of Delbarton, W. Va.; sister, Melanie Swisher of Ripley, W. Va.; and three grandchildren, Aaron, Hannah and Harrison Bailey of Marietta, Ga.

Memorial service will be held Friday, November 21, 2003, 7 p.m., at Connolly Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Page officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday evening, November 21, 2003, 6 - 7 p.m., at Connolly Memorial Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connolly Memorial Baptist Church Mission Fund, Box 206, Delbarton, WV 25670.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Ruby Irene Akers
Ruby Irene Akers, 74, of Matewan, died on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Appalachian Regional Hos-pital in South Williamson, Ky.

She was born on April 22, 1929, in Red Jacket, a daughter of the late Claude and Lonnie Bell Totten Meade. She was a homemaker and was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hansel "Hank" Akers; three sisters, Bessie Hammond, Marie Hambley, and Hattie Taylor; and two brothers, William Bill Meade and Troy Meade.

Mrs. Akers is survived by one son, Michael Sanson of Tennessee; two daughters, Tamatha "Tammy Massey" (Richard) Sirbaugh of Dunbar, W. Va., and Deborah Gregg of Tennessee; one brother, Clarence Eugene Meade of Marion, Ohio; seven grandchildren including one special grandson Richard Phillip Massey of Dunbar; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at noon, Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Full Gospel Church in Matewan with the Revs. Fred Taylor and David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Buskirk Cemetery in Buskirk, Ky.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will at after 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 29, at the church with special services beginning at 7 p.m. nightly.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.

Rev. Gordon Robinson
The Reverend Gordon William Stacy Robinson of Gilbert, West Virginia, died Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at Saint Mary's Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, after a brief illness.

Rev. Robinson was born on July 7, 1924 in Vansant, Virginia.

The following family members survive him: his wife, Ruby Jean Dean Robinson; a daughter, Karen Faye Browning (husband, Michael) of Gilbert; two sons, Michael David Robinson (wife, Carmella Fran) of Richmond, Virginia; and Charles Steven Robinson Sr. (wife, Carolyn) of Charleston, West Virginia; and five grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Browning, Brandon Kyle Robinson, Christopher Michael Stacy Robinson, Whitney Morgan Robinson and Charles Steven Robinson Jr.

Rev. Robinson has five living siblings: Melavie Cline of Verner, Joan Sowders and Zola Mae Toler of Palestine, Buddy Robinson of Milton, and Rosa Dean of Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Kevin Robinson; a granddaughter, Mallory Ryan Robinson; a brother, Lee Robinson, and a sister, Ruby Stevens.

Rev. Robinson was an ordained member of the Ministers' Conference of The West Virginia State Association of Free Will Baptists and served as pastor and evangelist in several area churches in Logan and Mingo Counties for 53 years.

Rev. Robinson lived an exemplary life, a well-respected man of faith, who was honored to serve his community in the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. His faith was most evident in all aspects of his life.

He was a member of the Riverview Free Will Baptist Church and served as a former pastor of the Church. Gordon and Ruby celebrated fifty-five years of marriage on June 5, 2003.

In his final hours, he gave thanks for the blessed life they shared together and for his children and grandchildren, who together with his faith were his life.

Gordon Robinson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He served as a Technical Sergeant of Company L, 19th Infantry of the Army of the United States. As a veteran of World War II, he received the following decorations and citations: Good Conduct Medal of Honor, World War II Victory ribbon; American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the Purple Heart, and the Combat INE Badge Marksman M1.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 28, at Mounts Funeral Chapel in Gilbert, West Virginia, with Rev. Carl Vallance of Huntington, West Virginia, officiating.

Visitations were accommodated on Thursday, November 27, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Chapel.

Rev. Daniel Dean and Rev. Michael Browning assisted with the services. Jackie Mounts and Doug Lester provided music.

Pallbearers were: Tom White, Dick White, Michael Browning, Chris Robinson, Clyde Endicott and Greg Dean. Buck Harless, Rev. Norman Vance, Rev. Forrest Franklin, Rev. Clarence Fortner, Howard Montgomery, Ralph Hendricks, Gorey Davis, Dexter Cline, Enos Blankenship, and the sons of Saul (Buster) Dean served as honorary pallbearers.

Graveside services were followed at the Hollywood Cemetery in Gilbert, West Virginia, under the direction of Rev. Daniel Dean.

James Gilliam

A memorial service will be conducted for James Glen Gilliam on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at 1:30 p.m. at the Crosswoods Baptist Church located at 875 Norway Ave., Huntington, W. Va., with the Pastor Dr. Jack K. Mayes and the Rev. Gary Imes officiating. A luncheon will follow.

Gilliam, 80, of Omar, W. Va., who went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 29, 2003, is a native of Chattaroy and formerly lived in Barboursville, W. Va.
