Jesse Williams

Jesse A. Williams, 87, of Huntington, W. Va., died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, in St. Mary's Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 21, 2003, 1 p.m., by Dr. C. J. Adkins at the White Chapel Mausoleum, Barboursville. Entombment will follow.

Mr. Williams was born April 23, 1916 in Sterns, Ky., a son of the late Ollie Preston and Eva Ellen Wilhite Williams.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie G. Rowe; two sisters, and one brother.

Jesse served with the United States Air Force during World War II with the 320th Bombardment Squadron. He was retired from Eastern Coal Co. and Pittston Coal Co. as an electrician and supervisor.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Hope Coyer Williams; one son, Jess Preston and wife Barbara Williams; daughters, Diana Sue and husband, Chester McCoy, Rebecca Ann and husband, Benny Hall and Alberta Lynn and husband, David Tompkins; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Huntington.

Klingel Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington, W. Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Adam Wesley Meade

Adam Wesley Meade, 17, of Williamson, died Nov. 28, 2003 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W. Va.

Born May 29, 1986, at Williamson, he was the son of Patricia Maynard Prince of Williamson.

He is also survived by brothers, Scott Meade of Kermit, and Shawn Douglas Prince of Williamson.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at Weaver Mortuary with the Rev. Ron Sanger officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Visitation will be Monday evening, December 1, 6-9 p.m. at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Irene Goodman

Irene Goodman, 62, of Williamson, died on Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W. Va.

She was born on March 6, 1941, in Woodman, Ky., a daughter of the late Clarence and Eacley Prater Dotson. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny J. Dotson and an infant brother, Roy Dotson; and one sister, Ethel C. Lowe.

Mrs. Goodman is survived by her husband, Carlos H. Goodman of Williamson; one daughter, Tammy, (M.T. "Chip") Ball of Williamson; three brothers, Alfred A. (Peggy) Dotson and Brady L. (Joyce) Dotson, both of Painesville, Ohio, and Willie W. (Lalor Ann) Dotson of Williamson; one sister-in-law, Lora J. Dotson of Painesville; two grandchildren, Amanda D. Rosenbalm of Bristol, Va., and Ashley M. (Gillenwater) Ball of the home; and two great-grandchildren, Alexys Brooke and Makayla Nicole Rosenbalm.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Ky., with Tom Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery in Sidney, Ky.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.

Dorothy Plesco

Dorothy Plesco, 79, of Varney passed away on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1924, in Majestic, Ky., the daughter of the late Hudson Jacob and Minnie Colimbine Few Watts Sr. She was a retired factory worker and a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford E. "Pete" Watts and his wife, Jane, and Hudson Jacob "Pood" Watts Jr. and his wife, Joyce; and one sister Joyce "Toby" Schrimsher.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Chafin Funeral Home with Bill Snodgrass officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenore Memorial Gardens in Lenore.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.

David Wakeland

David Wakeland, 64, of The Plains, Ohio, formerly of Matewan, W. Va., passed away Monday, January 19, 2004, at his residence.

Born April 25, 1939, in Princeton, W. Va., to the late Ervin J. Wakeland and Juanita Milam Wakeland, he was a retired diesel mechanic. He was a graduate of Matewan High School and a member of the Operating Engineers of Columbus, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ervin J. "Bud" Wakeland; and grandson, Israel Freeman.

Surviving are his wife, Cathy Deweese Wakeland of The Plains, Ohio; daughters, Sandy (Randy) Southworth of Portsmouth, Ohio and Karen (Randy) Crider of Waverly, Ohio; brothers, Robert ( Mona) Wakeland of Grove City, Ohio and Thomas (Nancy) Wakeland of Dunedin, Fla.; sisters, Irene Steele of North Matewan, W. Va., Patricia (Bob) Wilson of Grove City, Ohio and Veda (Mike) Noble of Dublin, Ohio; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2004, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio, with Rev. David Roach officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery in The Plains, Ohio.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 4 - 8 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral.

Arrangements directed by Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Tilda McCoy

Tilda Taylor McCoy, 91, of Sprigg, W. Va., departed this world to be with the Lord Monday, January 19, 2004, at Skilled Nursing Facility, ARH.

Born August 13, 1912, in Zebulon, Ky., to the late Auldie Taylor and Loney Cisco Caudill, she was a retired Rawl Sales employee. She was a member of the Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas McCoy; grandson, Fred "Tony" Dearfield; two great grandchildren, Taylor and Hayleigh McCoy; half-brother, Bob Allen; and two half-sisters, Bertha Allen and Ortha Estepp.

Surviving are her sons, Bernie (Ruth) McCoy of Kissimmee, Fla., Franklin (Natalie) McCoy of Ravenswood, W. Va. and Donald (Lois) McCoy of Sprigg, W. Va.; daughter, Jean Pinson of Turkey Creek, Ky.; half brother, Troy Allen of Hurley, Va.; half sister, Edith Smith of Hurley, Va.; eight grandchildren, Tammy Chapman, Amy (Curg) Martin, Timothy McCoy, Sonya (Sean) Adkins, Brian McCoy, Kay (Rick) Jarvis, Theresa (Jerry) Beverly, and Brenda (Jack) Pate.; and one great grandchild, Kauhlin Pate.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2004, 1 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Harvey Grimmett and Rev. Verlin Epling officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.

Serving as pallbearers are Curg Martin, Timothy McCoy, Brian McCoy, Shannon O'Dell, Sean Adkins and Rick Jarvis.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6-9 p.m., at the funeral home with services at 7 p.m.

Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky. has assisted the family with arrangements.

Troy Williamson

Troy Williamson, age 75, of Brownstown Twp., Mich., passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2004.

He was the beloved husband of Bonita; dearest father of Julianne (James) Bock, Catherine, Bethany Carrier, Nicole (Kurt) Kowalk, Samuel (Katherine), Patricia (David) Cox, and Paula West; dear brother of Golda Coleman; loving grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of one.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy, Sr. and Maude (Scalf) Williamson; and a sister, Elizabeth Blackburn.

Funeral services were held January 16, 2004, Trenton, Mich. Interment followed at Michigan Memorial Park, Huron Twp., Mich.

Fred Smith

Fred Smith, 55, of Matewan, W. Va., passed away Monday, January 19, 2004, at his home.

Born June 11, 1948, in Mingo County, W. Va., to the late Fritz Smith and Myrtle Allen Smith, he was retired from the railroad. Mr. Smith worked as a radio announcer and as a photographer in the Matewan area. He was a US Navy veteran.

Surviving are his brothers, Irvin Smith of Buskirk, Ky., and Frank L. Smith of Ashland, Ky.; and sister, Florene Penington of Columbus, Ohio.

No services are scheduled.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, W. Va.

Mabel Davis

Mabel A. Davis, 88, of Williamson, W. Va., went to her new home on Tuesday, January 20, 2004. She was born September 22, 1915, in Martin County, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ella Taylor Davis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Davis; a son, Jerry Davis; a daughter, Marlene Davis; a grandson, Robert K. Wolford; and two brothers, John Davis and Cecil Davis.

Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and of the United Baptist Church faith.

She is survived by three daughters, Janice (Robert) Wolford of Orlando, Fla., Glenda (John) Browning of Williamson, W. Va., and Ella (Andy) Maynard of Williamson, W. Va.; two brothers, Jimmy (Ruby) Davis of Lexington, Ky., and Frank (Tina) Davis of Ravenswood, W. Va.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., January 23, 2004, with the Elder Eddie Layne and Rev. Dan Browning Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at the church after 6 p.m. Thursday evening with special services beginning at 7 p.m.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Beasley

Charles Beasley, 41, of Red Jacket, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at Phelps, Ky.

He was born August 25, 1962, in South Williamson, Ky., to the late Fred Beasley and Jacqueline Lockhart Beasley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.

Surviving are his wife, Debra Kaye Beasley of Red Jacket, W. Va.; sons, Derek Beasley of Dayton, Ohio, Charles Edward Houghtland and Delvin Houghtland both of New London, Ohio, and Justin Beasley of New London, Ohio; step-sons, Travis Murr of New London, Ohio and Johnny and Michael Mills of Pikeville, Ky.; daughters, Kashena Crabtree of Stone, Ky., Heather Beasley of Chapmanville, W. Va., Jacqueline Beasley of Williamson, W. Va. and Tia Dawn Houghtland of New London, Ohio; step-daughters, Katina and Brandy Murr of New London, Ohio, Jennifer Bailey, Jessica Bailey and Stephy Bailey, all of New London, Ohio, Charlotte White of Phelps, Ky. and Tonya Duty of Hurley, Va.; sisters, Betty Hammond of Red Jacket, W. Va. and Nancy Beasley of LeSage, W. Va.; two grandchildren, Halie and Mahala Beasley both of Dayton, Ohio; and 10 step-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Friday, January 2, 2004, 12 noon, at the Family Cemetery at Lynn, W. Va. with Rev. Bobby Dale Wolford officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc., of Matewan, W. Va.

Bessie Ferrell

Bessie Ferrell, of Gilbert, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at her residence in Gilbert.

She was born in the Gilbert Creek area, Baisden, W. Va. to the late Purcell and Altie New Cline and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nell Ferrell; three sons, William Ferrell, Allen Ferrell Jr. and Arthur Ferrell; four sisters, Goldie Steele, Mona Hatfield, Ettie Daniels and Ola Cline; and two brothers, Langley Cline and Dennis Cline.

Surviving are her devoted companion, Eugene Hurley of Gilbert, W. Va.; three sons, Charles (Diana) Ferrell of Victorville, Ca., Herman (Marcella) Ferrell of Petersburg, Va., Carl (Drema) Ferrell of Man, W. Va. and Diana (Russell) Crockett of Petersburg, Va.; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2003, 2 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with Rev. Denny May, Rev. Paul Ward and Rev. Roger Endicott officiating. Burial will follow in the Perry Family Cemetery in Baisden, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 2, 2004, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va. is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Chapman Dotson

Sarah Chapman "Grannie" Dotson, 100 years of age, a resident of Loudon, TN., passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Loudon Hospital.

She was born September 26, 1903 in Williamson, WV. She was the second child of a family of ten children born to the late Tom and Betty Smith Chapman.

Mrs. Dotson was a long time resident of Phelps, KY. and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Phelps.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Dotson; daughters Evelyn Schwartz and Betty Sloan.

She is survived by four children; Joyce Ellis of Loudon, with whom she made her home, George Dotson of Phelps, KY., Anna J. Zettler and Henry E. Dotson, both of Colonial Heights, VA; 34 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren spanning five generations.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Loudon Funeral Home Chapel. A prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Carlton Harper officiating.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2004 after 4:00 p.m. at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 4, 2004, 1:00 p.m., at the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Jimmy Lee Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the George Dotson Cemetery at Phelps.
