Rebecca Baize

Rebecca J. Baize, 76, of Delbarton passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2004, at her home.

She was born on June 8, 1927, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of the late Ray and Mildred Dennison McFall. She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Baize, and one brother Norman McFall.

Mrs. Baize is survived by two sons, Danny Baize and his wife Kathy of Delbarton, and Tommy Baize and his wife Ginger of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one brother, Ray McFall Jr. of Louisville; one grandson, Bradley Baize of Naugatuck; two great-grandchildren, Zachery and Austin Baize.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, March 26, 2004, at the Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton with the Rev. Gary "Bo" Starr officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 25.

John Shea

John T. Shea, 87, of Lenore died on Wednesday, March 23, 2004, at the V.A. Medical Center in Huntington, W. Va., of natural causes.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1917, in Norwich, Conn., a son of the late John Patrick and Nary Carberry Shea. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Ajax Church in Lenore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Shea; one sister, Catherine Flaherty; and five nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shea is survived by one son, Donald Belcher of Lenore; one sister, Mary Shea Trant of Pawcotuck, Conn.; two brothers, Frank Houde of Hampden, Conn., and Thomas Houde of Chesair, Conn.; one grandson, Donald E. Belcher of Michigan; and two granddaughters, Donna Maichbanks and Kelly Patucci, both of Michigan.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the James Funeral Home in Logan, W. Va., with the Rev. Josh Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, March 26, at the funeral home.

Verna Pinson
Funeral services for Verna Pinson of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Coldwater, Ky., will be conducted at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, Ky.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 6, at the funeral home.

Fraley Cantrell
Fraley Cantrell, 90, of Williamson, died on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert with the Rev. Danny Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Fork Cemetery in Beech Fork, W. Va.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m., Sunday, March 7, at the funeral home.

Lillian West

Lillian West, 58, of Midway Park, N.C., formerly of Hanover, W. Va., passed away Friday, March 12, 2004, at her residence in North Carolina.

She was born June 27, 1945, at Big Branch, W. Va. to the late John Dee and Gracie Hatfield West.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2004, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home with Rev. Veatrice Staton officiating. Burial will follow at the West & Morgan Cemetery, Josh Fork (Long Branch) Simon, W. Va.

Friends may call Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Mauriene Goff
Mauriene Goff, 85, of Kermit, W. Va., passed away Friday, Marcyh 26, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.

Born June 26, 1918, in Stepptown, W. Va., to the late Selvester Stafford and Selona Spaulding Stafford, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Goff was a member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Goff; daughter, Glenna Preece; and two sisters.

Surviving are her sons, Rev. Ron (Joyce) Goff of Delbarton, W. Va., Jerry "Butch" (Janie) Goff of Delbarton, W. Va., Rev. Dan (Lacrecia) Goff of Virginia Beach, Va., Richard "Dick" (Dottie) Goff of South Williamson, Ky.; daughters, Kay (Ron) Parsley of Delbarton, W. Va. and Gwendolyn Goff of Kermit, W. Va.; step-son, George Edward (Margaret) Goff of Red Jacket, W. Va.; son-in-law, Tyson Preece of Kermit, W. Va.; 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 28, 2004, 11 a.m., at Bethel Temple Assembly of God with Rev. Robert Perry and Rev. Haskel Runyon, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va. Her family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening, March 27, 2004, 6 - 9 p.m., at Weaver Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson, W. Va.

Freddy Hurley
Freddy Hurley died March 23, 2004 in Slidell, La. where he resided for the past 20 years. He died of complications from a heart transplant that he received in 1992. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Hurley was born in Williamson, W. Va. Feb. 21, 1936. He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. Roy S. Hurley, deceased.

His body has been donated to science for further research for heart transplant patients including his brother Barry who also had a heart transplant in 1997.

Mary Daniels

Mary Daniels of Meador died on Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W. Va.

As of presstime, funeral arrangements were incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.

Alada Totten Fraley

Alada Totten Fraley, 88, of Delbarton went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 17, 2004.

She was born on Jan. 5, 1916, a daughter of the late Bailey and Betty Marcum Chaffin of Wayne County, W. Va. She was a life-long member the America United Baptist Church of Delbarton, W. Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Warren Glen Chaffin, Bailey Carter Chaffin, Ulysses Grant Chaffin, Gilbert Chaffin and Carlos Chaffin; two sisters, Clara Chaffin and Grethel Salmons; her first husband Frank William Totten; her second husband, Shelby Fraley; twin sons, Elijah Totten and Ezekiel Totten; and three step-children, Frank W. Totten Jr., James Pat Totten and Lahoma Curry.

Mrs. Fraley is survived by four sons, William C. (Janet) Totten and Albert Calvin (Betty) Totten, both of Delbarton, Charles David Glen (Karen) Totten of Smithfield, Va., and Brady Clinton (Betty) Totten of Crum, W. Va.; one daughter, Tammy Renea (Rusty) Chambers of Delbarton; three step-children, Rosalee Simpkins of Elyria, Ohio, Shelia (Everett) Slone of Delbarton, and Betty Murphy of Burns, Ind.; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of Christian brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton with the Revs. Dale Carey, Bobby Perry, Ron Page and Mitchell Bias officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher.

Viewing will be Thursday, March 18, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the funeral home. A special service will begin at 7 p.m. with the Revs. Lewis Hall and Leo Walker officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Chafin Funeral Home of Delbarton.

Don Parsley

Don Parsley, 84, of Williamson died on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his residence.

He was born on Jan. 23, 1920, in Marrowbone Creek, a son of the late Jess and Laura Brewer Parsley. He was a retired carpenter and formerly attended services at the Salvation Army Chapel in Williamson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Parsley and Lee Parsley; one half-brother, Jess Parsley III; and three infant siblings.

Mr. Parsley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Virginia Earls Parsley; one son John Henry (Pete) Parsley of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Donna Jean (Kenneth) Baisden of Delbarton; four brothers, Herbert (Flo) Parsley, Emery Parsley, Selwyn Parsley, and Lonnie (Juanita) Parsley; three sisters, Betty Evans, Ida Bell Turner, and Grethel (Arthur) Crigger; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Weaver Mor-tuary in West Williamson with the Rev. Ron Sanger officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 18, at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Weaver Mortuary of West Willimson.

Irene Barath

Irene Barath, 78, of Red Jacket died on Wednesday, March 17, 2004.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the Chambers Funeral Home in Mateway.

Hobart Baldwin, Jr.
Hobart James "Jim" Baldwin, Jr., 57, of Chattaroy, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the skilled nursing facility of Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.

Born Feb. 2, 1947, at Canada, Ky., he was a son of the late Hobart James and Bertha Marie Blackburn Baldwin.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Shepherd and a sister, Rose Mary Baldwin.

He was an agent with Liberty Life Insurance Company; a former baseball and basketball little league coach; member of the Stone Lodge #890 F & AM; member of the Sidney Missionary Baptist Church; founding member of Pike County Citizens United for Justice and Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Cundiff Baldwin of Chattaroy; one son, James Andrew Baldwin of Chattaroy; two daughters, Adrienne (Allen) Buis of Eubank, Ky. and Rhonda (Eric) Stanley of Slaters Branch, Ky.; one son-in-law, Shannon Shepherd of Stanville, Ky.; six grandchildren, Sarah and Seth Shepherd; Ian, Kenton and Blake Buis and Alyssa Stanley.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home chapel, Belfry, Ky., with Rick Gannon officiating.

Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Sidney, Ky.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, Monday, March 29, 2004, at the funeral home chapel with special services at 7 p.m. both nights.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Kentucky Baptist Children's Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home.

Mary Daniels

Mary Murphy Daniels, 60, of Meador, W. Va., passed away Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W. Va.

Born June 24, 1943, at Beech Creek, W. Va., to the late Kermit Murphy Sr. and Justine Kennedy Murphy, she was of the Church of Christ faith. Mrs. Daniels was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two brothers, Herbert "Crowbar" Murphy and Kermit Murphy Jr.; and a grandson, Brandon Scott Daniels.

Surviving are her husband, Scotty Daniels of Meador, W. Va.; son, John Edward Daniels of North Matewan, W. Va.; daughters, Gloria Jean Daniels Wooddell of Matewan, W. Va., Ethel Colleene Daniels of Beech Creek, W. Va. and Patricia Ann Daniels of Newtown, W. Va.; brothers, Edward Murphy, Billy Joe Murphy and John Earl Murphy all of Beech Creek, W. Va.; sister, Phyllis Blankenship of Beech Creek, W. Va.; six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2004, 1 p.m., at Ben Creek Church of Christ with Revs. Lewis Smith, Cleatis Smith and Gene Clemons officiating. Burial will follow at Murphy Cemetery at Foundation Fork of Beech Creek, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the church from 6 - 9 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc., of Matewan, W. Va.

Alada Totten Fraley, 88, of Delbarton went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 17, 2004.

Irene Barath
Irene Woodward Barath, 78, a life-long resident of Red Jacket, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness.

She was born on May 3, 1925, in Red Jacket, a daughter of the late Daniel and Sarah Dooley Wardward. She was a homemaker and a member of the Enon United Baptist Church at Blackberry City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Barath; two brothers, Lawrence Woodward and Raymond Woodward; and three sisters, Alice Looney, Mattie Hackney and Cora Roberts.

She is survived by one son, David (Connie) Barath; three daughters, Loretta (Ray) May of Limestone, Tenn., formerly of Red Jacket, Maggie (Mid) Harmon of Newtown, W. Va., Vida Maynard (Tim Browning) and Karen (Danny) Thompson both of Red Jacket; one brother, William Woodward of Honaker, Va.; one sister, Maggie Farthing of Danville, Va.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barath will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the Chambers Funeral Services chapel in Matewan with Brother Jerry McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Veiw Memory Gardens in Maher.

Family and friends willl serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, March 19, at the funeral home.
