Virgil Crabtree
Virgil Crabtree, 81, of Nolan, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 16, 2004, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 5, 1922, at Road Branch, he was a son of the late Jim and Ora Crabtree.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Crabtree was preceded in death by five children, three grandchildren and five brothers.

He was a retired coal miner and of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Goldie Marcum Crabtree; two sons, Eddie (Alicia) Crabtree of Baisdentown and Ray (Darlene) Crabtree of Nolan; three daughters, Mary Newsome of Lenore, Ora (Keith) Grizzle of Nolan and Allison (Johnny) Brumfield of Huntington; a granddaughter he raised, Sharon (Chris) Holt of Delbarton; a sister, Kathern Howard of Irvine, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Nolan Church of God Acts 20:28 with Paul Ray Davis officiating.

Burial will follow in the Crabtree cemetery, Road Branch.

Chris Holt, Steve Dingess, Keith Grizzle, Mark Marcum, Virgil Marcum and Roger Marcum will serve as pallbearers. John Crabtree will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home chapel, Belfry, Ky., and at 1 p.m., Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Nolan Church of God Acts 20:28, with special services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home.

Albert Parsley Jr.

Albert Parsley Jr., 74, of Maher, W. Va., died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Skilled Nursing Facility of Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.

He was born Feb. 7, 1930, a son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Parsley.

Mr. Parsley was also preceded in death by five brothers, Curtis Meade, Donald Ray Meade, Orson Parsley, Dewey Parsley and Carl Parsley; one sister, Mary Shepard.

He was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Keen Parsley of Maher; four sons, Boyd (Konita) Parsley and Michael Parsley, both of Maher, Paul (Sandy) Parsley of Lenore, and James (Linda) Parsley of Borderland; one daughter, Lucille (R.F.) Copley of Chattaroy; one step-daughter, Judy (David) Preston of Matewan; one step-son, James (Teresa) Black of Tennessee; one brother, Fred Meade of Silverlake, Ind.; four sisters, Brookie Williamson of Warsaw, Ind., Edna Crit of Warsaw, Ind., Bernice Owens of Silverlake, Ind., and Joann Grodhouse of Glenford, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, at Ajax Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ at Ajax, W. Va., with the Rev. James Parsley, the Rev. Josh Hall, the Rev. Fred Neeley, and the Rev. Jr. Cantrell officiating.

Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Turkey Creek, Martin County, Ky.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at the church, with services set at 7 p.m.

Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.

Aillean Gravely

Aillean Gravely, 84, of Columbus, Ohio, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at The Laurels of Norworth in Columbus.

She was retired from Ohio State University Hospital and was a pianist for many churches, including Triedstone Baptist where she also served on the Mothers Board and Angelic Christian Voices.

She was a professional tap dancer and enjoyed music and singing.

She raised 82 foster children, and along with her husband, George O. Gravely, was 1979 Foster Parent of the Year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Nathaniel and Estella Rose Graham; husband, George O. Gravely; one son, Webster Harris; two sisters, Alberta Miller and Hazel Greene; and four brothers, David, Pearly, Webster and Calvin Graham.

Survivors include one son, David Cross of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Ofphero (David) Williams of Lewis Center and Jeannie Johnston; one granddaughter, Robin (Andre) Parte of Columbus; two sisters, Ella Mae Harris of Chicago and Lillian Washington of Williamson, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Thursday, July 29, 2004, at the Triedstone Baptist Church, 858 E. 3rd Ave., Bishop Jerome Ross will be eulogizing.

The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. until time of the service Thursday.

Burial will follow in Franklin Hills cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to Gary Memorial Chapel, 2154 E. Main St., Bexley, Ohio.

Arrangements directed by Gregory Funeral Home, Williamson.

Stewart Justice

Stewart Justice, Sr., 83, of Belo, W. Va., passed away July 7, 2004, surrounded by friends and family.

Stewart was born April 2, 1921 at Ragland, W. Va.. He was the son of the late Lorenza Dow and Sinda Gilman Justice. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bradford Lee Justice; brothers, Jonah, Clarence, Lorenza Dow Jr., and Bradford Justice; sisters, Betty Kennedy, Vicie Dempsey, Tilda Varney, Emma Jean Fuller and Myrtle Edwards.

Mr. Justice was a prominent businessman throughout the community having interest in investment properties, trucking, coal mining, logging and saw mills. As a young man he worked as a West Virginia state road employee. He was the founder of Goodwill Motors.

His political career included past chairman of the Democratic Party. As a former Mingo County Commissioner, he worked hard to establish the Mingo Manor Nursing Home. As a hobby, he enjoyed collecting old antique cars. He was a member of the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church in Delbarton.

He is survived by sons Stewart Jr. and wife Linda Justice of Logan, W. Va., Paul Franklin and wife Deborah Justice of Taylorville, W. Va., Loranza Justice of Taylorville, W. Va. and Larry Clinton Justice of Fort Pierce, Fla.; daughters Janice Justice McComis of Sebastian, Fla. and Caressa Justice of Taylorville, W. Va.; brothers, Raymond Justice of Varney, W. Va. and Granville Justice of Sarah Ann, W. Va.. Nine grandchildren also survive, Jeffrey Dale, Barry Dwayne, Stewart III, Paul Jr. and Joshua Justice; Olivia, Angela and Curtis Justice; and Vicki Lynn Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at the Connolly Memorial Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, July 10, 2004, with the Revs. Fred Dillion, Clifford Rawls, and Ron Paige officiating. Eulogy will be given by Supreme Court Justice Elliot E. Maynard.

Burial will follow in the Edwards cemetery at Varney, W. Va.

Visitation will be at the Funeral Home Chapel Friday evening from 6-9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey, Barry, Stewart III, Paul Jr., Joshua and Caleb Justice and David Ramey and Rodney Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are Wilson Cisco Jr., Gene Brinagar, Everette Hannah, Judge Michael Thornsbury, Thomas Ward, Clayton Meade, Sam Woods, Albert Runyon, Mark Mitchell, Ward Gartin, Greg "Hootie" Smith and David Baisden.

The Justice children would like to take this time to thank Arlene Gartin, Glendine Justice and Teresa Justice for all their love, help and support during this painful time.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Verna Hall

Verna Fraley Hall, 80, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W. Va.

Born April 6, 1924, in Lawrence Co., Ky., to the late Albert Fraley and Martha Elliot Fraley, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, six sisters, and two grandsons - Shelby Hall and Brian Hall.

Surviving are her sons, Edgar Hall of Millstone, W. Va., Ernest Hall Jr. with whom she resided for 27 years in Delbarton, W. Va., and Albert Hall of Delbarton; daughters, Barbara Rovetto of Chapel Hill, N.C., Mary Koepee of Columbus, Ohio, Deloris Brewster of Delbarton, W. Va., Evelyn Edinger of Hadley, Pa. and Betty Lou Buhrts of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, John David Fraley of Fort Gay, W. Va. and Leon Fraley of Louisa, Ky.; sisters, Edith Hanshaw of Louisa, Ky., Ann Hammonds of Louisa, Ky. and Rita Gay of Jackson, Ohio; 45 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 9, 2004, 1 p.m., at Christian Fellowship Church of God, Puritan, W. Va. with Rev. Glen Merritt. Burial will follow at Stafford cemetery, Delbarton, W. Va. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2004, at the Christian Fellowship Church of God with special services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel, of Toler, Ky.

William Miller
William Patrick Miller, 23, of Red Jacket died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his home.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1980, a son of William Ronald Miller of Freeburn, Ky., and Robin Dotson Miller of Red Jacket. He was a coal miner.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Hendley Miller; one uncle, Kevin Miller, ; and one cousin, John Auburn Dotson Jr.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Miller is survived by his stepmother Lisa Miller; one son, Corey Haven Duncan of Taylorville; one brother, Matthew Garrett Miller of Sprigg; one sister, Kirstin Nicole Miller of Sprigg; and special friend, Gary Pope.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Chambers Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Jimmy Copley, Joey Crum, and Dwayne Chapman. Burial will follow in the Thompson Family cemetery, Borderland.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Sincell, Johnny Wolford, Joey Crum Jr., Jeremy Dotson, Shannon Thompson, Jimmy Henson, Justin Henson, Donald Carey and Chris Dotson. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Miller and Austin Reed.

Visitation will begin Thursday, July 29, at 6 p.m. with special services at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Chambers Funeral Home of Matewan.

Robin Stafford
Robin Elizabeth Stafford, 36, of Naugatuck died Tuesday, 27, 2004, at her residence following a long illness.

She was born on Nov. 28, 1967, in South Williamson, a daughter of Phyllis Gaye Simpson of Naugatuck and Robert C. Stafford. She was her mommy's sunshine.

She graduated from Belfry High School in 1985 and received a bachelor of science degree in education from West Virginia State College where she was a cum laude graduate. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Phi National Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and was on the Dean's list. She received her master of education degree in special education from Marshall University.

She was so full of love, she was so precious. She loved God and always saw the best in everyone. She was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Marvin Simpson of Naugatuck; one brother, Jonathan Stafford whom she loved so much; and a very special friend, Danny Scott and her little Maltese, Hali.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, 31, 2004, at the Naugatuck Church of God with the Rev. Estel Rose officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be anytime after 6 p.m., Friday, July 30, at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Thomas Booth Sr.
Thomas Lee Booth Sr., 83, of Sellersburg, Ind., died on Monday, July 19, 2004.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, with William Waters of the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ officiating.

All friends of the Booth, Bevins and Maynard families are invited.

Annabelle Billings
Annabelle Riddle Billings, 83, of Kenova, W. Va., died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at her home.

She was born April, 17, 1921, in Williamson, a daughter of the late Hatler and Esta Varney Riddle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Billings; two brothers, Raymond Billings and Hatler Riddle Jr.; and one sister, Pauline Bartlett.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and John Horan with whom she made her home, and Judy "Butchie" Billings whom she had lovingly cared for for 61 years, all of Kenova; two grandsons and their wives, John Thomas and Michelle Horan of Huntington, W. Va., and Joe and Billie Horan of Kenova; two great-grandchildren, Mikey and Jamie; two sisters, Mary Hymore of Williamson and Ruth Goodall of Alexandria, Ky.; two brothers, Ralph Riddle of Paintsville, Ky., and Jack Riddle of Beckley, W. Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Pastors Henry Mahan and Bill Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville.

Friends may call from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rollins Funeral Home.

Mack Williams

Mack Elliot Williams, 25, of Kermit died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at Stone Coal, W. Va.

Born Aug. 18, 1978, at Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of Jessie Messer and Laura Williams of Kermit.

He was employed by Interstate Gas Company.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sons, Mack Elliot Steven Williams and Timothy Eli Williams, both of Kermit; and a brother, Jessie Eli Messer of Kermit.

Funeral arrangements will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 12, 2004, at the Crum Church of Christ with the Rev. Paul Messer officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church after 5 p.m., Saturday and until time of services on Monday.
