Roger Martin
Roger Walter (Dingess) Martin, 21, of Marysville, Ohio, formerly of Kermit, W. Va., passed away Monday, September 27, 2004, at his home in Marysville, Ohio.

He was born November 30, 1982, in Huntington, W. Va., to Alfred B.O. Martin and Teresa Waller Martin of Marysville, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by Clifford Waller and three uncles.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his brother, John Derrick Moore of Marysville, Ohio; stepbrother, Daniel Martin of Marysville, Ohio; two stepsisters, Tiffany and Britney of Columbus, Ohio; grandparents, Walter and Victoria Waller Marcum of Kermit, W. Va. and stepgrandad, Alfred Martin of Columbus, Ohio.; one nephew, Jordon Waller; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 29, 2004, 1 p.m., at Full Gospel Church of Jesus, Jennies Creek, W. Va. with Arbie Dillon, Jr. officiating. Burial followed at the Waller cemetery, Jennies Creek.

Visitation was held Monday and Tuesday evenings at Full Gospel Church of Jesus, Jennies Creek.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Justin Hatfield
Justin Darrell Hatfield, 19, of Browning Fork, W. Va., passed away Monday, September 27, 2004, at his residence in Browning Fork, W. Va.

Born May 20, 1985, in Man, W. Va., to George and Minnie Martin Hatfield of Browning Fork (Gilbert), W. Va., he was a general laborer and of the Baptist faith.

He was a beloved son of Minnie and George Hatfield; a truly good hearted person. He was loved by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Martin; paternal grandparents, Willis and Maggie Hatfield; and a niece, Summer Desirae Hatfield.

Surviving are his mother and father, George and Minnie Hatfield of Browning Fork, W. Va.; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Martin Cline of Indian Creek (Baileysville), W. Va.; four brothers, Roger Hatfield of Gilbert, W. Va., George (Diana) Hatfield Jr. of Browning Fork (Gilbert), W. Va., Brock Anthony Hatfield of Teays Valley, W. Va. and Michael (Patty) Hatfield of Browning Fork (Gilbert), W. Va.; four sisters, Elizabeth Hatfield of Browning Fork (Gilbert), W. Va., Raymona Hatfield Browning of Stafford Branch (Gilbert), W. Va., Melissa Hatfield of Gilbert, W. Va., and Kayla (Tom) Kennedy of Simon, W. Va., ; special nephew, Todd Hatfield of Browning Fork (Gilbert), W. Va.; four nephews; and six nieces.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 1, 2004, 1 p.m. at Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer at Horsepen, W. Va. with Rev. Homer Blankenship, Jr. and Rev. Earl Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at Carter cemetery, Browning Fork (Gilbert), W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearer.

Friends may call the Freedom Full Gospel Assembly House of Prayer Hampden (Horsepen, W. Va.) Thursday evening at 6 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Chafin
Frances Pirotte Chafin, 87, of Matewan, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at South Williamson ARH.

Born April 8, 1917, in Mystic, Iowa, to the late Pierre "Pete" Joseph Pirotte and Marie Plan Pirotte, she was a retired cook with the Mingo County Board of Education. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the Matewan Women's Club and the Calista Boyd Chapter of Eastern Star. She was also a graduate of Williamson High School.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde R. Chafin; son, Donald R. Chafin; and three brothers, Edward, Bruce and Emile Pirotte.

Surviving are her son, Wilson (Sandy) Chafin of Matewan, W. Va.; daughters, Peggy (Gene) Sutton of Cove, Ore. and Betty (Henry) Fitzgerald of Nokesville, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 2, 2004, 11 a.m., at Chambers Funeral Services' Chapel with Rev. Hal Hevener officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery at Williamson, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Friday, October 1, 2004, at the chapel from 6 - 9 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, W. Va.

Barbara Faries

Barbara Ellen Faries of East Lynn, W. Va., formerly of Chattaroy, W.Va, , passed away on October 30, 2004, at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born January 17, 1946, at Road Branch, W. Va., to the late Fred and Vinia Arrowood Deskins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Faries was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Christopher Roberts; brothers Paul Lloyd, Elden and Donnie Deskins; sister Una Mae Spragglin; and best friend and companion Paul Max Webb of Chesapeake, Ohio.

She is survived by her sons, James David Roberts, Jr. and his wife, Barbara; Ricky Wayne and Bruce Kevin Roberts, all of East Lynn, W. Va.; grandsons Christopher Roberts and Nathaniel Maynard; granddaughters, Brookellyn Roberts and Brianna Arthur; brothers, Reaford, Charles Arvil, Donald Ray, Fred Jr., Elbert, James Gregory and Ronnie Deskins; sisters Denise Wellman, Patty Adams, Emma Miller and Tammy Deskins; step-grandchildren Denny, Danny and Sara Andrus; and best friend, Joan Anderson of Upton, Ky. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m, Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at the Morris Funeral Home chapel, Wayne, W. Va., by Pastor Josh Hall.

Burial will follow at the Jones cemetery, East Lynn, W. Va.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2004 at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, W. Va.

Reva Jarvis
Reva Ruble Jarvis, 52, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004.

Born May 15, 1952, in Williamson, W. Va., to the late Henry Ruble and Rosa Lee Bow Ruble, she was the former owner and operator of a night club in Williamson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lee Jarvis; and brothers, Hobert and Freeland Ruble.

Surviving are her children, Willard Steven Ruble, Charles Henry Jarvis, Elizabeth Ruble, Amanda Ruble Williams and Ashley Ruble Rowe; brothers, Henry "Crock" Ruble, Paul Ruble, Clinton Ruble, Dock Ruble and John "Henry Ruble" Carter; sisters, Linda Jarvis and Alice Jarvis. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004, 1 p.m., at Pilgrim Home United Baptist Church at Maher, W. Va. with Bro. Chris Hensley and Bro. Matthew Martin officiating. Burial will follow at McNeely Family cemetery at Maher, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Pete Spano
Pete Franklin Spano II, 43, of Chattaroy, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2004.

He was born January 16, 1961, in Williamson to Youla Spinosi Spano and the late Pete Spano, grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marino Spinosi and Mr. and Mrs. James Spano, Sr.

Pete, known fondly to his friends and family as "Petey, " was a contributor to various community projects; and his past service included being a board member for Main Street, Treasurer for the American Red Cross, membership in the Kiwanis Club, Moose Club, and the Mountain Club.

Pete was a 1979 graduate of Williamson High School, where he lettered in football and baseball. He was a member of the 1979 Class AA state runner-up baseball team where he made first team All State. He was first team All Area Baseball and Football and a member of the American Legion State Championship Baseball team. He was co-captain of the 1979 WHS football and baseball team. He was also chosen as "Best All Around Athlete." Spano graduated from Marshall University in 1983 with a BBA in Finance.

Upon graduation from college, Pete was employed by The Equitable in Charleston, selling financial securities and insurance. Pete started his career locally with the First National Bank and quickly moved up to the ranks of Executive Vice-President and acting President. Following 14 years at the bank, Pete then became the Business Manager for Thornhill Motors in Chapmanville, W. Va., and Finance Manager for C&O Motors in Charleston, W. Va. He was a former owner and operator of Pete's Deli and Dano and Spanos carryout in Williamson. Pete was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Williamson, W. Va.

Survivors include, son Pete Joseph (PJ) Spano of Logan; mother, Youla Spano of Chattaroy; three sisters: Rose (Pedro Ledger) of Chattaroy, and Yolanda Spano of Salt Lake City, Utah, Pat (Greg Staten) of Chattaroy.

Nieces and nephews Shanna Ledger of Charleston, Greg Ledger of Huntington, James and Lindsey Staten of Chattaroy; John Peter and Alexandra Schoppe of Salt Lake City, Utah; aunt Mary Spano of Chattaroy and Uncle John Spinosi of Fort Meyers, Florida and many cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Weaver Mortuary from 3-9 p.m., on Sunday, November 21, with Rosary at 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Church Monday, November 22, at 11 a.m., with Father Harry Dunn presiding.

Burial will follow at Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va.

Pallbearers will be Danny Deaton, Jerry Lambert, Dominic Gentile III, Robin Smith, Thomas Bevins, Frank DeMartino, Jr., Jim Lombardi, Darren McCormick, and Jarrod Fletcher.

Honorary pallbearers include, Jimmy Madlom, Tim McCoy, Scotty Bell, Johnny Lego, Bud Davis, and Jeff Holiday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart School in Williamson, W. Va.

Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson is in charge of the arrangements.

Gracie Prince
Gracie Prince, 68, of Fort Gay, W. Va., died Friday, November 19, 2004, at her residence. Born February 10, 1936, at Pike County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Beldon and Daisy Mullins.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by husband, Howard Price; one son, Jerry (Eva) Prince of Crum, W. Va.; two daughters, Lucille Stacy (Dana Whitt) of Crum, W. Va., Millie (Derver) Stacy of Crum, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Scott (Jamie) Prince of Crum, W. Va., David (Amanda) Prince of Millcreek, W. Va., Keith (Amanda) Stacy of Crum, W. Va., Marcus Stacy of Crum, W. Va.; two great-grandchildren, Kalee Dale Prince and Caleb Prince; two brothers, Melvin and Hayes Mullins both of Columbus, Ohio; four sisters, Caushy Prince of Dunlow, W. Va., Ruby Clark of Crum, W. Va., Martha Copley of Crum, W. Va., and Roxie Brewer of Columbus, Ohio.

Visitation will be held Sunday at the Silver Creek United Baptist Church after 5 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Silver Creek United Baptist Church with Richard Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at the Prince and Mullins cemetery at Crum, W. Va.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Onie Justice
Onie Justice, 85 years old, of Justice, W. Va., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 18, 2004, at her residence.

Born April 26, 1918, at Sudduth, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Amos and Laura Robinette Toler. She was also preceded in death by husband Ireland Justice; two infant daughters, Rita and Bethel Justice; two daughters, Peggy Justice, Dottie L. Davis; one son, Harold Justice; four brothers, Drewey, Raymond J., Courtney J. and Odell Toler; two sisters, Mona Browning and Glenna Marie Toler.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Jean (Cliff) Goodman of Philadelphia, Pa., Dimple (Mike) Tolley of Justice, W. Va.; two sons, Richard "Dick" (Norma) Justice of Bear, Delaware, Ronald (Donna) Justice of Bridgeton, NJ.; one sister, Leatha Harrison of Gilbert, W. Va. 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a very special friend, Mary Vanover.

She was a lifetime member of the Justice Tabernacle, Justice, W. Va.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2004, at the Justice Tabernacle Church with the Revs. Roger Endicott and Randall Staton officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson cemetery, Justice, W. Va.

Pallbearers will be Jason Tolley, Joshua Justice, Ricky Dale Toler, Joey Lester, Richard Justice, Marty Ray Hatfield, Mark Blankenship and Adam Hatfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Justice, Mike Tolley, Kennis Justice, Mike McCoy and Larry Brown.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mounts Funeral Home, Gilbert, W. Va.

Dallas Carter
Dallas Carter, 46, of Justice, W. Va., died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

Born June 14, 1958, at Iaeger, W. Va., he was a son of Dorothy Davis Carter of Justice and the late Ritz Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at the Justice Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Isom officiating. Burial will follow in the Lester cemetery at Neds Branch in Gilbert.

Friends may call at the Justice Freewill Baptist Church, after 6 p.m., Monday.

Sandra Justus
Sandra Kay Cline Justus, 55, of Isaban, W. Va., passed at Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W. Va., due to a long illness.

Born September 12, 1949, in Iaeger, W. Va. to Lahoma Bailey Cline of Isaban, W. Va. and the late Dexter Cline, she was a retired school bus driver working for the Mingo County Board of Education for 21 years. She was a longstanding member of the Isaban Church of God at Isaban, W. Va.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Rush and Icy Cline, and her maternal grandparents, Cecil and Mila Bailey.

Surviving are her husband of 27 years, Stanley Justus of Isaban, W. Va.; son, Richard Bradley (Kimberly) Birchfield of Justice, W. Va.; daughter, Christal Gail (Kent) Perry of Huntington, W. Va.; stepdaughter, Angie Wimmer of Princeton, W. Va.; three nieces, Lori-Ann Cline, Jessica Cline and Andrea Browning; two nephews, Joshua Browning and Samuel Cline; a special aunt, Brenda Testerman, three grandchildren, Morgan Alexandra Birchfield, Marleigh Shawn Birchfield and Zachary Kent Julius Perry; two step grandchildren, Amber and Nicholas Wimmer; a sister, Pamela Browning of Isaban, W. Va.; and her brother, Kevin (Tammy) Cline of Isaban, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004, 1 p.m., at Isaban Church of God, Isaban, W. Va., with Rev. LeRoy Holley officiating. Burial will follow at Four Pole cemetery, Isaban, W. Va. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call the Isaban Church of God at Isaban, W. Va. Friday evening, November 12, 2004, from 6 - 10 p.m. with special services at 7 p.m.

James Carter
James Harvey Carter, 70, of Alley Branch, Williamson, W. Va., passed away Thursday, November 11, 2004, at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, W. Va.

Born July 22, 1934, in Stone, Ky., to the late Charles Carter and Celia Chapman Carter, he was a retired employee of Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was the office manager in his daughter's law office and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his former wife, Linda M. Carter of Delbarton, W. Va.; sons, James Charles Carter of Delbarton, W. Va. and Daniel Moses (Leslie) Carter of Williamson, W. Va.; daughter, Diana Carter (Bill) Wiedel of Williamson, W. Va.; sister, Viola York of Warren, Mich.; four grandchildren, Moses Alexander Wiedel, Lindsey Rhea Carter, Celia Anne Wiedel and Sarah Dawn Wiedel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13, 2004, 2:30 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jerry McCoy and Bro. Walter DeHart officiating. Interment will follow at Mill Branch cemetery at Stone, Ky.

Serving as pallbearers are Danny York, Ted Chapman, Everett Chapman, Steve Dotson, John Tomblin, Toby Allen, Tony Endicott and Claude Edward Smith.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.
