Fay Scott Jr.
Fay Scott Jr., 66, of Newport News, Va., a native of Chattaroy, W. Va., died Friday, March 11, 2005 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.

Born March 11, 1938 in Chattaroy, W. Va., he was a son of the late Elder Fay Scott Sr. and Esther Thompson Scott.

Survivors include: three sisters, Elizabeth Gay Holloway of Newport News, Va.; Pansy (Bill) Belcher of Hampton, Va. and Mae (Corbin) Peterson of Bahama, N.C..

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church, Chattaroy, W. Va. with Elder Wayne Herald officiating.

Burial will follow in the Thompson cemetery, Chattaroy, W. Va.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Weaver Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary, West Williamson, W. Va.

Boyd Nunley
Boyd Nunley, 92, of Cow Creek, W. Va., died Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, march 16, 2005 at the Hill Crest Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Nelson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, W. Va.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Collins Funeral Home chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Collins Funeral Home, Switzer, W. Va.

Tammy Evans
Tammy Laurette Evans, 36, one of God's special children and a resident of Voca's Group Home of Man, W. Va., passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005, in the Logan General Hospital.

She was born January 24, 1969 in Ravenna, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ira A. "Dagwood" Evans and granddaughter of the late Paul S. Curtis and Alex and Marthan Evans.

Tammy is survived by her mother, Joanne Marcum of Delbarton, W. Va.; four sisters, Deana Evans of Streetsboro, Ohio, Kim Runyon of Delbarton, W. Va., Melani Evans (Randy) of Blaine, Ky. and Dolores Greenwood (Matt) of Lenore, W. Va.; two brothers, Stephen "Lonnie" Evans and wife Karen of Lenore, W. Va. and Jason Evans and wife Sheila of Delbarton, W. Va.. She is the stepdaughter of Willard "Bruce" Marcum and stepsister of Steven and Jason Marcum, all of Delbarton, W. Va. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Leann Vance and husband C.J., Bobby Preece, Adam Evans, Michael Runyon, Allie Runyon, Ran Ran Adams, Trey Greenwood and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the Lilly of the Valley Freewill Baptist Church, Sunday, March 6, 2005, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gene Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in the Maynard cemetery at Riffe Branch, W. Va.

Viewing will be at the church Saturday evening from 6 - 11 p.m. with special services starting at 7 p.m. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Easter Mahon
Easter Mahon, 63, of Taylorville, W. Va., passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005, at her residence.

Born April 13, 1941, in Glen Alum, W. Va., to Charlie Daniels and the late Eunice Buchannon Daniels, she was a homemaker and a member of the Williamson Area Church of Christ.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby Pearl Mahon and Janie Bennett; and brothers, Burgess and Charles Daniels.

Surviving are her father, Charlie Daniels of Williamson, W. Va., husband, Edgar Mahon of Varney, W. Va.; sons, Stephen Mahon of the home and Charles Mahon of the home; daughter, Kathy Balser of Pond Gap, W. Va.; brothers, Frank Daniels of Hillsville, Va., Jerry Daniels of Max Meadows, Va., Russell Daniels of Bland, Va., Kelly Daniels of Swords Creek, Va., Harold Daniels of Bramwell, W. Va., Arnold Daniels of Hillsboro, Ohio and Jason Virgil Daniels of Max Meadows, Va.; sister, Nellie Crapps of Portsmouth, Va.; two granddaughters, Erin and Emily Balser of Pond Gap, W. Va.; and one step-granddaughter, Brittany of Pond Gap, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2005, 1 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Joe Cochran and Lewis Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Daniels Family cemetery at Glen Alum, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Rev. Clarence Fortner
Rev. Clarence Fortner of Gilbert, W. Va., departed his earthly life on March 3, 2005, as angels escorted him into the portals of glory to begin his eternal heavenly life. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Mary Ethel Wilson Fortner. He was born August 21, 1925 to the late Albert Lee "Jack" Fortner and Harriett Leona Toler Fortner. He served his country in the United States Navy and was of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two children, Chuck Fortner and Margaret Fortner; a grandson, Brandon Fortner; a grand-daughter-in-law, Angie Walls Darnell; a great granddaughter, Logan Darnell; brothers, Bobby, Frank, Jesse, Ernest, Leman and Arnie Fortner; brothers, Rice, Rockford and Simon Browning; sisters, Essie Hayes, Oline Hutchinson, Angie Lester and Orpha Walls.

He began his spiritual pilgrimage when he was converted in the spring of 1947. He was called to preach in 1950, and became ordained to preach God's word in 1952. He assisted in building five sanctuaries for five churches. Through his life he served on many Conference Boards, and he was one of the founding members of the Trinity Freewill Baptist Conference, where he served on the Executive Board of Directors, the By-Law committee and the ordaining council for many years.

During his life he was the pastor of six churches, presently devoted to the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist church in Man, W. Va. for over 36 years. He considered the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church family his extended family and loved each member unconditionally. His life's purpose and goal was to help others see and understand the simple plan of salvation to become born again Christians.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he leaves behind to mourn his loss a host of family and friends, including his loving wife; two sons, Mr. Tommy Fortner and wife Donna and Mr. Marty Fortner and wife Stephanne, both of Gilbert, W. Va.; five daughters, Mrs. Sandra Grimmett and husband Donald of Raeford, N.C., Mrs. Jeannie Lee and husband Michael of Huntington, W. Va., Mrs. Barbara Mounts and husband Carl of Raeford, N.C., Mrs. Mildred Twardy and husband Edwards of Gilbert, W. Va. and Mrs. Mila Lea Darnell and husband Danny of Coal Mountain, W. Va.; a son-in-law, Mr. Dewey Walls of Verner, W. Va.; 16 grandchildren, Tinamarie and Jeff Trent, Johnny Twardy, Selina Mounts, Jessie Gravely, Jimmy Buresch, Katrina T. and David Lester, Brian Hartman, Danny Paul Darnell, Brandi Darnell, Nicholas Mounts, Lindsay and Weston Fortner, Easton and Allie Fortner; 12 great grandchildren, Kendra Trent, Jonathan and Angela Twardy, Cameron Collins, Kaitlin Brooke Lester, Brianna, Austin and Hayleigh Hartman, Hunter an Dakota Darnell, McKenzee England and Hunter Nicholas.

Pallbearers will be Dewey Walls, Jeff Trent, David Lester, Thomas Justice, Jimmy Buresch, Danny Paul Darnell, Brian Hartman, Nicholas Mount, Weston Fortner and Easton Fortner. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Greenbranch Church.

Services will be held at the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church on Saturday, March 5, at 6 p.m. with a special service at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 6 at 11 a.m. with entombment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Ronald Cook, Rev. Butch Cobb, Rev. Dallas Sias, Bro. Robert Perry and other members of his church family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Greenbranch Freewill Baptist Church.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va. is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ethel Newsome
Ethel Kirk Newsome died on March 13, 2005. She was a daughter of the late Fred and Hessie Kirk.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Schoedinger East Chapel, 5360 E. Livingston Ave., where friends may call from 6 p.m. ­ 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will take place in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Charlie Daniels Sr.
Charlie Daniels Sr., 96, of Varney, W. Va., formerly of Glen Alum, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Mingo Manor Nursing Home, Williamson, W. Va.

Born January 30, 1909, in Glen Alum, W. Va., to the late Ples and Mary Mullins Daniels, he was a retired railroad worker with Norfolk & Western Railway. He was a deacon at the Old Regular Baptist Church at Turkey Creek, Ky. for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Bachannon Daniels; two sons, Charles Daniels and Burgess Daniels; three daughters, Janie Bennett, Ruby Mahon and Easter Mahon; grandson, Russell Dewayne Daniels; and great grandson, E-4 Specialist Danny Bruce Daniels Jr.

Surviving are his six sons, Jacent Virgil Daniels of Max Meadows, Va., Frank Daniels of Hillsville, Va., Kelly Daniels of Swords Creek, Va., Russell Daniels of Bland, Va., Arnold Daniels of Hillsboro, Ohio and Jerry Daniels of Max Meadows, Va.; one daughter, Nellie Craps of Portsmouth, Va.; one brother, Howard Daniels of Grundy, Va.; 27 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2005, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va. with Elder Elbert Sesco, Elder Richard Staton, Elder Hobart Hamilton, Elder Willie Blackburn, Elder Lacy Walters and Elder Bobby Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the Daniels Family cemetery, Glen Alum, W. Va. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert, W. Va., Friday evening (March 25, 2005) from 6 - 9 p.m.

Clarence Robinette
Clarence Robinette, 58, of Lenore, W. Va., passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005. He was born December 16, 1946 at Road Branch, W. Va., the son of Basil Robinette Sr. of Chattaroy, W. Va. and the late Martha Robinette.

He was a member of the Church of God in Jesus Name.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Betty Mae Hall Robinette; daughter, Amanda Robinette; four brothers, James Robinette of New Tazewell, Tenn., Donald Robinette of Varney, W. Va., Ronnie Robinette and Basil Robinette Jr. of Delbarton, W. Va.; three sisters, Barbara Ward of Statesville, N.C., Emma Duncan and Sandra Lester both of Ragland, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church Saturday, March 26, 2005, 11 a.m., with Elder Eddie Layne, Rev. Josh Hall and Bro. Richard Belcher officiating.

Visitation will be at the church Friday evening after 5 p.m. with special services at 7 p.m.

Burial will follow in the Robinette cemetery at Johns Creek, Ky. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

'James' Ernest Chafin Sr.
"James" Ernest M. Chafin Sr. died Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga., of an extended illness. Born June 1, 1940, Mr. Chafin, is a native of Delbarton, W. Va., and had lived the last 15 years in North Georgia.

He is survived by his son, Ernie Chafin of Dahlonega, Ga.; daughter Tammy Marcum of Delbarton, W. Va.; sister Ina Gaye Justice of Delbarton; brother Rush Chafin of Monroe, N.C.; two grandchildren, Sam Marcum of Van, W. Va., and Amanda Chafin of Dahlonega, Ga.

Burial services will be held at a cemetery in Delbarton, W. Va.

Billy D. Tomblin
Billy David "Wild Bill" Tomblin, 34, of Laurel Creek, W. Va., passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 28, 1970, at South Williamson, Ky., the son of the late Robert and Billy Ruth Carey Tomblin.

He was a truck driver with Kirk Trucking.

Billy enjoyed four wheeling and spending time on his Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed mechanical work. He was a former member of the Lenore Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his fiance, Rosemary Newsome of Lenore; two brothers, Rickey (Kathy) Carey of Williamson, W. Va., and Hank Tomblin of Jasper, Ala.; one sister, Connie Tomblin Maynard of Lenore, W. Va.

He is also survived by a host of friends whom he thought of as family: Charles and Audry Newsome, David and Amy Newsome, Charles and Glea Newsome, Winfield Newsome, David Newsome, Thelma and C.D. Newsome, and Mark and Jackie Farley, "Punkin" Farley and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Bethany Old Regular Baptist Church at Laurel Creek with Elder John Lee Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in Carey cemetery at Laurel Creek, W. Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, at the church.

Funeral arrangements under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.
