Marcinia Runyon
Marcinia Runyon, 61, of Kermit, W. Va., passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 10, 2003, 1 p.m., at Rosetown Church, Marrowbone Creek, Kermit, W. Va.

Visitation will be held all day Saturday, at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Phelps and Son Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Albert and Yolanda Monarchy

Father and mother-in-law of Jerry Lambert, vice president of Mingo Bottling Company, died this past weekend in Bluefield, W. Va.

Yolanda Marie Capobianco Monarchy, 79, of Bluefield, Va., formerly of Welch, W. Va., died Friday, September 26, 2003, at her residence. Born Oct. 28, 1923, in Maitland, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late Frank Capobianco and Philemon Premo Capobianco.

Mrs. Monarchy was a former consultant for Tri-State Blood Services, she was a former Director of the American Red Cross of McDowell County and the McDowell County United Way.

She was the secretary of the West Virginia Lung Association and secretary of the Catholic Community Services. She served on the board of the Southern Regional Health Council, the McDowell County Scholar-ship Association, West Virginia Tuberculosis As-sociation, and the East River Chapter of the American Red Cross.

She received her fifty year pin for her dedicated volunteer services to the American Red Cross since her college years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bluefield.

Albert Monarchy, 79, of Bluefield, Va., formerly of Welch, W. Va., died Sunday, September 28, 2003, at a Bluefield hospital. Born Oct. 27, 1923 in Ashland, W. Va., he was a son of the late Guisippi Monarchi and Antoinette Quattroni Mon-archi.

Mr. Monarchy was an employee of T & T Pontiac and Buick of Bluefield where he was a salesman for many years. He was a five-time president of the Keystone Rotary Club and an honorary life time member of the Bluefield Rotary Club. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and VFW Post #9696.

He was instrumental in the forming of the Sons of Italy where he was a member and two-time past president. He was one of the key organizers of the Keystone Oyster Dinner and was an avid follower of the Northfork basketball program.

Mr. Monarchy was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 400th Armored Field Artillery which was attached to the 82nd and 101st Airborne. He was among the first group of men to cross the bridge at Remagen, Germany. Mr. Monarchy was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bluefield.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Yolanda Marie Capobianco Monarchy; brothers, Theodore "Ted" Monarchi and Antonio Guisippi; sisters, Josephine M. Caproni, Anna Delores Harris and Nancy M. Neal.

Surviving Mr. and Mrs. Monarchy, are their two daughters, Donna M. Lambert and husband Jerry of Bluefield, Va. and Karen M. Rowe and husband Joseph of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, Lisa Ann Lambert and Christopher Anthony Lambert.

Mr. Monarchy is also survived by a brother, Johnny Monarchy and wife Mary R. of Callaway, Md.; sisters, Lena Kafcas of Florida, Rosie Wyne of Norfolk, Va. and Helen Wyne of Fredricksburg, Va.

Mrs. Monarchy is also survived by two sisters, Mary Foster of Newport News, Va. and Flora Johns of Welch, W. Va.

The Monarchy family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. at the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel, Bluefield, where Christian wake services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. with the Father Patsy J. Iaquinta officiating.

Mass of Christian burial for Mr. and Mrs. Monarchy will be conducted Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Gymnasium at 11 a.m. with the Father Patsy J. Iaquinta and Father Dan Brady as celebrants. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, where military rites for Mr. Monarchy will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Tulliop Ramella, Anthony Ramella, Larry Fanning, Monty Ramella, Anthony "String" Harris, Keith Harmon, Alex Ercoline, Lou Ercoline, Domingo Javier, Frank Kuffner, Roger Mullins, Nick Ameli, Jeff Goodson, Todd Goodson, Pete Capaldini and Jim Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be Sid Ellison, Jimmy Johns, Larry Zingale, Enno Thuss, Carlisle "Bud" Bolen, Judge Rudolph Murinksy and Clyde Barr.

In lieu of flowers the family requests the memorial contributions be made to Pallative Care Center, Box 801024, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. 22908.

James Gilliam

James Glen Gilliam of Omar, W. Va., formerly of Barboursville, W. Va., went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 29, 2003 at Guyan Valley Hospital, Logan, W. Va.

Memorial service will be held at a later date at Crossroads Baptist Church, Huntington, W. Va.

He was born June 13, 1923 at Chattaroy W. Va., a son of the late Everett and Minnie Diamond Gilliam.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Gilliam and grandparents, J.P. and Laura Browning Diamond, and Ed and Bell Johnson Gilliam.

He is survived by a sister and brother in law, Gay and Leo Jude of Barboursville, W. Va.; a special aunt and caregiver, Margaret Diamond of Omar, W. Va.; and many cousins and friends.

Margie Maynor

Margie Maynor, 82, of Coal Mountain, W. Va., passed away Monday, September 29, 2003, at her place of residence.

She was born March 4, 1921, in Simon, W. Va., to the late Burl and Elmira Kennedy Maynor.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2003, 1 p.m. at Tamcliff Tabernacle, with Rev. David Browning and Rev. Barry Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W. Va.

Friends may call Tamcliff Tabernacle on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, from 6-9 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va.

Della Grizzle Lee
Della Grizzle Lee, of Wellington, Ohio, formerly of Red Jacket, W. Va. passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in Wellington, Ohio.

Arrangements are incomplete.

Minnie Dean Rutherford
Minnie Dean Rutherford, 91, of Scott Depot, W. Va., passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at SunBridge Care Center at Scott Depot, W. Va.

Born June 20, 1912, in Freeburn, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Chapman Dean and Ella Ellis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Ruther-ford; a daughter, Alice Adams; and a grandson, Tony Varney.

Surviving are her son, Tommy Rutherford of North Matewan, W. Va.; daughters, Lois Powers (Don) of Dungannon, Va., Dotty Fellows of Melbourne, Fla. and Mary Varney (Emmet) of St. Peters, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, 11 a.m., at Chambers Funeral Services with the Rev. Lewis Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va. Her sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc., of Matewan.

Verna Masel Grace
Verna Masel Grace, 89, of East Kermit., died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at the home of Irene Williamson on Jennie's Creek where she was a patient.

Born Sept. 22, 1914, in Louisa, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Ray Haught and Bettie Thompson Haught.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Hoppy" Grace; sons, William Arthur Grace and Rodney Grace; daughter, Bettie Jo Grace; brothers, Jacob Haught, Thomas Haught and Mack Haught; and sisters, Erma Maddox and Gaye Dwyer.

Surviving are her son, Jimmie (Myriam) Grace of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; daughters, Jean (Boyce) Preece of Louisa, Ky., Mary Alice (Loyal) Marshall of East Kermit and Carol Sue (Paul) Dalton of Reynolds-burg, Ohio; sisters, Mary Weimer of Manassas, Va. and Shirley Weimer of Bealton, Va.; five grandsons, William Russell (Rusty) Preece, Ronald James Grace, Rodney Grace, Jr., Ray Grace and Richard Grace; and several great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Kermit Freewill Baptist Church, a homemaker, seamstress and avid gardener.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at Kermit Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Murphy cemetery in East Kermit.

Visitation will be held at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield, Ky., 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, October 11.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield, Ky.

James H. 'Jim' Vance
James H. "Jim" Vance, 82, of Justice, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at his residence.

Born Oct. 30, 1920, at Twin Branch Hollow, Iaeger, W. Va., to the late Elijah and Ruby Mae Justice Vance, he was a lifetime christian and attended the Justice Tabernacle Church at Justice.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Vance; three sisters, Evelyn Perry, Ida Jean Vance and Sylvia "Sib" Vance.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Brooke Vance of Justice; son, Jimmy and wife Linda Vance of Justice; two daughters, Linda and husband McCellan Riffe of Lugoff, S. C. and Conda and husband Larry Dotson of Justice; five grandchildren, Brett Dotson, Wesley Ellis, Joshua Vance, Harold Gene Brown and Terri Greer; five great grandchildren, Kamaelyn Ellis, Acie Greer, Dakota Greer, Chance Greer and Chase Brown; brothers, Harace and wife Gredith Vance of Justice, Harry and wife Helen Vance of Justice and Charles Vance of Justice; sisters, Janice McCrary of Lebanon, Tenn., Pricie Dunnigan of Hanover, W. Va., Carrie and husband Dan Wilburn of Abington, Va., Reba Ellis of Justice and Mary and husband Oscar Vanover of Justice.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert with the Rev. Ken Allen, Rev. Joe Lester and Rev. Randall Staton officiating. Burial will follow in the Justice cemetery, Justice.

Active pallbearers are Harold Gene Brown, Lee Hatfield, Terry Vance, Joey Ellis, Dwayne Walls, Daniel Britt and Chris Cohenour. Junior pallbearers are Brett Dotson and Joshua Vance. Honorary pallbearers are Harace Vance, Harry Vance, Charles Vance, Joe Blankensyhip, Clifford Hatfield, Billy Ferguson, Sr. and Drew Justice.

Friends may call the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Saturday evening from 6p.m. to 9 p.m.

Rev. Mack Bennett Jr.
Rev. Mack Bennett Jr., age 75, of Route 3, Blueville Community, Grafton, W. Va., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at his residence.

He was born in Point Pleasant, W. Va., on Sept. 23, 1928, and was the son of the late Mack R. Bennett Sr. and Gatha (Thornton) Bennett.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Jean (Hunt) Bennett who he married on Dece.4, 1948; three children, Shirley Jean Sever and husband Joseph Sever of Bridgeton, N.J., Michael Robert Bennett of Grafton, W. Va. and Pamela Sue Moats and husband Timothy Moats of Grafton, W. Va.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Matthew Sever, Sara Michelle moats and Ryan Timothy Moats; one brother, Robert Bennett of Point Pleasant, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Rev. Bennett was a retired United Methodist minister for 38 years serving Blueville United Methodist Church, Haymond United Methodist Church and St. Johns United Methodist Church in Taylor County, W. Va.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of Grafton and a member of the Grafton Masonic Lodge #15 A.F. & A.M.

The family will receive friends at the Donald G. Ford Funeral Home in Grafton from the hours of 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday evening, Oct.11, 2003.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at 2 p.m., at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Grafton, with Pastor Bert Coffman officiating.

Interment will be in the Haymond cemetery in Taylor County, W. Va.

Rev. Bennett will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. time of the services.

Warren G. 'Mutt' Earnest
Warren G. "Mutt" Earnest, 83, of Borderland, W. Va., went to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at his residence.

Born March 4, 1920, in Logan County, W. Va., to the late Glen Earnest and Mary (Huffman) Earnest, he was a retired miner from Cinderella Mining. Mr. Earnest was a Christian who attended the Philadelphia United Baptist Church at Borderland, W. Va. and he was a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Warren G. Earnest Jr.; six brothers, Clay, Bill, Ray, Clyde, Jack and Wilburn Earnest; and one sister, Lucille Cantrell.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Cochran Earnest; sons, Troy Allen Earnest of Laurel Creek, W. Va. and Ray Dean Earnest of Borderland, W. Va.; daughter, Lucille Clark of Borderland, W. Va.; brother, Charles Earnest of Hardy, Ky.; five grandchildren, Randy and Ray Clark, Scotty Earnest, Suzanne Newsome and Melissa Carey; six great grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron and Trace Clark, Trent Earnest, Zackary and Corbin Newsome.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2003, 1 p.m., at Philadelphia United Baptist Church with Harrison Baisden officiating. Burial will follow in the Earnest Family cemetery, Borderland, W. Va. Grandsons and brothers of the Philadelphia United Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.

DAV graveside services will be provided by Belfry Chapter #141.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening at Rogers Funeral Home with special services at 7 p.m. with Brothers Harrison Baisden and Homer Mayhew.

Body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral services.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky.

Dessie P. Thompson
Dessie P. Thompson, 81, of Holden, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at her son's home at Mitchell Heights, W. Va,

Born November 10, 1921, in Mingo County, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Joe Starr and Pearl Gilman Starr Dials.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Buster Thompson; one daughter, Gladys Marie; two sisters, Paree and Fannie Sheppard; and one brother, Minnis Starr.

She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother, and a member of the Central United Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Jimmy (Carol) Thompson of Mitchell Heights, W. Va.; two daughters, Patty (Jerry) Bolling of Huntington, W. Va. and Jackie (Tom) Tomblin of Mitchell Heights, W. Va.; one sister, Della (Fred) Goodwin of Logan, W. Va.; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2003, 1 p.m., at Central United Baptist Church in Logan with Rev. Glenn White Jr. and Rev. Randy Skeens officiating. Special singing will be provided by Davey Jo Kirkendall. Burial will follow in the Lawson-Thompson cemetery at Pigeon Creek.

Visitation will be held Friday from 6 - 9 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home in Logan. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Evans, Fred Goodwin, Tommy Marcum, Jean McCallister and Jess Collins.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Logan.
