Yantes Belcher

Yantes Belcher, 72, of Delbarton, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 18, 1931, in Elk Creek. She was the daughter of the late Floyd and Nancy Sheppard Runyon. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Belcher; brother, Willie Runyon; and son, Roy Jenkins.

Mrs. Belcher is survived by her son Robert Jenkins of Delbarton; brothers, Harrison Runyon of Logan, W. Va., and Joe Runyon of North Carolina; grandchildren, Donnie Jenkins, Johnny Jenkins, Creasy Adkins, Debbie Hunt, Leann Jenkins and Pam Jenkins; special granddaughter, Maria Brooke Jenkins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at the Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton. Burial will follow in the White cemetery at Elk Creek.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6.

Lena May

Lena Gaynell May, 70, of Gahanna, Ohio, died on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at The Ohio State University Medical Center.

Mrs. May was a member of the New Horizons Community Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alma Gaynell Powers; and grandmother, Lena Cole Mounts.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Jesse May; loving children, Yvonne Carol (Jim) Cupp, Brenda Sue Francis, Lena Cole Charles, Mary Ellen Robinette, Beverly Gail (Mace) Smith, Jessica Lynn (Mike) Bowen, Robert Matthew (Tammy) May; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, at the Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, with Pastor Joel Workman officiating. Interment will be in the Glen Rest Memorial Estates.

Louis Blankenship
Louis Blankenship, 68, of Rawl, died on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at his residence.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1934, in Jamboree, Ky., a son of the late Richard E. and Kathleen Mounts Blank-enship. He was a retired coal miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Julius "Shorty" Blankenship, Bobby Blank-enship and Franklin Blank-enship; and sisters, Augusta Hicks and Mandy Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Evans Blankenship; son, Orville (Donnetta) Blankenship of Rawl; daughters, Ruth (Jamey) Layne of Rawl, Betty (Orville) Basiden of Delbarton, and Maybell (Lester) Tibbs of Johns Creek, Ky.; brothers, Woodrow (Reba) Blanken-ship and James (Doris) Blankenship both of William-son; sisters, Shelby Hinsdale of East Bend, N.C.; Julie (Warren) Thistle of Homo-sassa, Fla., Patricia Hatfield of Red Jacket, Priscilla (Michael) Gooslin pf Blackberry, Ky., and Brenda Haynes of Walbash, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at the Rawl Church of God in Jesus' Name in Rawl with the Revs. Larry Brown and Ed Lockard officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, at the church with services at 7 p.m. nightly.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.

Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky., is in charge.

Thelma Rollins Canada

Thelma Rollins Canada, 100, of Little Rock, Ark., died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Pleasant Valley Living Center.

Mrs. Canada was born Sept. 28, 1903, in Cherokee, W. Va., to the late William Fletcher and Osa Anna Chandler Rollins.

Mrs. Canada had been a self-employed business owner in general merchandise and appliance sales in Williamson.

Her husband, William Edward Canada, preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Little Rock; Order of the Eastern Star; AARP and Shepherd's Center.

Survivors include her daughters, Clarice and husband Jim McGrew of Alexander and Wilma C. Diner of Little Rock; granddaughters, Leigh Ann and husband Kevin Mountcastle of Coppell, Texas; Amanda Lee McGrew of Alexander; Dr. Jamie and husband Jerry Coleman of Dallas, Texas, and Janelle D. and husband Larry Hildebrand of St. Paul, Minn.; grandsons, Dr. Brad and wife Debbie Diner of Little Rock and Jeff Diner of Phoenix, Ariz.; nephew, Dr. Andrew T. and wife Jean Canada of Efland, NC; and five great-grandchildren, Clint and Adam Russell, both of Seattle, Wash.; Jackson Diner of Little Rock; Claire and David Mountcastle, both of Coppell and Porter Coleman of Dallas.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday Feb. 9, 2004, in the Roller-Ballard Funeral Home chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association and/or Shepherd's Center/Life Quest.

Sheldon Justice

Sheldon Todd Justice, 32, of Baisden died on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at the Logan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at the Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert with the Revs. Jonas Trent, Learmon Mounts and John Thompson. Burial will follow in the Phil Cline cemetery in Baisden.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home.

Alice Riffe

Alice Riffe, 72, of Iaeger, W. Va., died on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Logan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert with the Revs. Michael Browning and Lowell Walls officiating. Burial will follow in the Willard Riffe Family cemetery at Lower Muzzle Creek, Ikes Fork, W. Va.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home.

Ruby Browning

Ruby Browning, 74, of Hanover, passed away Monday, February 2, 2004, at her residence.

She was born July 26, 1930, in Simon, W. Va., to the late James and Delphia Blankenship Kennedy.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5, 2004, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Adams and Rev. Louis Collings officiating. Burial will follow at the Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W. Va.

Friends may call Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 4, 2004, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va. is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Horn

Linda Sue Brewer Horn, 54, of Thurman, Ohio, died on Monday, February 2, 2004, at the Holzer Medical Center.

She was born on November 21, 1949 in Williamson, W. Va. to the late Bert Starr and Eva Runyon Starr, who survives her. Linda's first husband, William E. Brewer Jr. died in 1993. She was married to Eugene Horn on April 6, 1996, and he survives her. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Eugene Horn of Thurman; two sons, William E. (Lisa Ann) Brewer III and Richard Lee (Laura) Brewer, both of Thurman; three daughters, Tammy Sue (Brian) Harris of Bidwell, Nora (Timmy) Newsome and Brooke (Charles) Hensley, both of Delbarton, W. Va.; her mother, Eva Starr of Delbarton, W. Va.; sixteen grandchildren; one brother, Ike (Loretta) Starr of Tennessee; three sisters, Alice (James) Adkins and Lizzie (Jimmy) Thompson, both of Delbarton, W. Va. and Helen (Tom) Fisher of Sissonville, W. Va.

She was preceded in death by her father, her first husband, and one brother, Otis Starr.

Services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery, Rio Grande, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, February 5, 2004, from 6 - 8 p.m.

Benny Cline

Benny Hubert Cline, 48, of Iaeger, W. Va., died on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at his residence on Huff Creek Road, Hanover, W. Va.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at the Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert. Burial will follow in the Riffe cemetery at Huff Creek.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Mounts Funeral Home.

Recie Brewer

Recie Brewer, 77, of Lenore, W. Va., passed away Sunday, February 22, 2004.

Born March 15, 1926, at Belo, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Tilda Davis Hall. She was the widow of the late Rev. William E. Brewer Sr. of Trace Creek, W. Va. She was also preceded in death by a son, William E. "Bill" Brewer Jr.; one grandson, Roger Lee Brewer Jr.; four brothers; and five sisters. Mrs. Brewer was of the Church of God faith and was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons, John (and wife Donna) Brewer of Ohio, Roger (and wife Marie) Brewer of Rhode Island, and Allen (and wife Darlene) Brewer of Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Ray (and wife Leona) Hall of Beckley, W. Va. and Tennis (and wife Cleo) Hall of trace Creek, W. Va.; three sisters, Polly (and husband Lloyd) Sparks of Ohio, Maxell (and husband Marvin) Colegrove of Laurel Creek, W. Va. and Violet (and husband Buddy) Adkins of Hamlin, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at the Little Dove United Baptist Church at Belo, W. Va. Wednesday morning, February 25, 2004, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Roger Ooten and Elder Jimmy Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va.

Visitation will be at the church Tuesday evening after 5 p.m. with services starting at 7 p.m.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Barrett

Donald Ray Barrett, 65, of Naugatuck, W. Va., passed away Monday, February 23, 2004, at his residence.

Born September 2, 1938, in Stone, Ky., to the late Allen R. Barrett and Thelma Bilter Barrett, he was a retired self-employed painter. Mr. Barrett was of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Verlie Mae Barrett; and one son, Danny Jarvis.

Surviving are his sons, Hart (Jacqueline) Jarvis of Crum, W. Va., Donna (Lisa) Jarvis of Winco Block, W. Va. and Roy Lee Jarvis of Ajax, W. Va.; daughter, Norma Lee (Bill) Caroll of Ajax, W. Va.; brother, Darrell B. Barrett of Chattaroy, W. Va.; sisters, Penny (Jim) Kauffman of Norfolk, Va. and Patty (Charles) Kirby of Norfolk, Va.; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2004, 12 noon, at Pilgrim Home United Baptist Church at Maher, W. Va. with Brothers Earl White, Chris Hensley, Mitchell Elkins and Matthew Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Jarvis cemetery at Winco Block. His grandchildren and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held anytime Wednesday at the church with services at 7 p.m.

Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky. has assisted the family with arrangements.

Charles Drenner

Charles Edward "Charlie" Drenner, 96 of Logan, W. Va., formerly of Delbarton and East Lynn, W. Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Logan Center with his daughter, Beaulah at his bedside.

He was born June 3, 1907 in East Lynn, W. Va., a son of the late George and Almeda Davis Drenner. Charles was a coal miner for over 50 years, and a member of the East Lynn Church of God, where he was a trustee and Sunday school teacher.

His wife Myrtle Hagar Drenner of 68 years also preceded him in death, along with three sisters, Geneva Stapleton, Mary Lou Drenner, Ellen Drenner; four brothers, John, Richard, Pete and Verdie Drenner; a son-in-law, John Ooten.

Survivors include three daughters, Beulah Ooten of Delbarton, W. Va., Doris McCallister (Delbert) of Naples, Fla., Karen Bousson (Jim) of Pleasant Prairie, Wi.; a son, Charles Drenner (Eileen) of Pleasant Prairie, Wi.; two sisters, Josephine Russel of Huntington, W. Va., Mabel Callaway of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mitchell Bias, Rev. Ken Gore and Pastor Harold Newsome. Burial will follow at Elmwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Morris Funeral Home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Charlie will be greatly miss by, family, friends and the staff of the Logan Center.

Sandra Maynard

Sandra Johnson Maynard, 46, of Williamson, died on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, in the Skilled Nursing Facility of the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

She was born on June 27, 1957, in Williamson to the late Kathleen Johnson Blackwell. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, who raised her, George and Gracie Johnson.

She is survived by her stepfather, George "Daddy" Blackwell of Williamson; one son, Jason Johnson of Williamson; one daughter, Katelyn Maynard of South Williamson; one sister, Gina Blackwell Carter of Columbus, Ohio; one aunt, Virginia "Sis" Phillips of Williamson and several cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at the Hatfield Funeral Home in Toler, Ky., with Brother Josh Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Crabtree Cememtery at Road Branch.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Sunday until time of the services at the funeral home.

James Francis

James H. Francis, 74, of Williamson died on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1929, in Pike County, Ky., to the late Mont and Polly Francis. He was a former worker for the Williamson Sanitary Department.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Dale Francis; three brothers, Bill, Roy and Buster Francis, and one sister, Becky Francis.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Dimple Francis of Williamson; caretaker, Phyllis Gannon of Williamson and one son, Jerry (Dreama) Francis of Columbus, Ohio.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel in Toler, Ky., with the Rev. Freddie Runyon officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Maher.

Pallbearers will be James, Bubby, Anthony, Paul, James and Randy Gannon.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home.
