Angela Maynard
Angela Rose Skeens Jordon Maynard, 37, of Turkey Creek, formerly of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Thursday, February 5, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born October 24, 1966, at Williamson, W. Va. She was the daughter of the late Nokia Nujuana Justice Skeens. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Luther (Hijack) and Matilda Justice and Thomas and Clara Mae Skeens and an aunt, Wynonna Clark.
She was formerly employed by Papa Johns Pizza in South Williamson.
Her survivors include her father, James I. Skeens of Delbarton, W. Va.; sister, Matilda Denise Thorpe of Delbarton, W. Va.; brother, James Robby (Lisa) Skeens of Matewan, W. Va.; and husband, Wallace Maynard of Turkey Creek, Ky. Her children, Charles Joseph Jordon II, Justin Jordon and Kimberly Dawn Jordon, all of the home; special child, Cecal R. Diamond II and special nieces, Linette Thorpe and Amber Thorpe, all of Delbarton; aunts, Betty (Jimmy) Spence, Novella (Thomas) Muncy, Gail Snodgrass and Dene (Bob) Ratcliff; ex-husband, Charles Jordon and a host of children she loved and cared for.
Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., February 8, 2004, with the Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins cemetery at Airport Bottom, Delbarton, W. Va. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be at the funeral home chapel from 6 - 9 p.m. Saturday evening.

John Horn
John Horn, 58, of Rockwood, Mi., passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2004.
He was the beloved husband of Dorothy; loving father of Kenneth, Charles (Karen), Sherry (Timothy) Campbell, Lisa (Curtis) Marcinkowski, and John A. E.; dearest son of Ellen and the late Charles Horn; dear brother of Joyce Lee (Virgil) Salmons, Haskel (Shirley), Albert (Charlotte), Paul (Mary), Richard (Brenda), Scottie (Tina) and the late Frank, Jessie and Virginia; loving grandfather of Brilynn, Leslie, Kori, Shelby, Amanda, Kennedy, Kaitlyn, Joseph and Timothy.
The body will be transported to West Virginia for services and then laid to rest at Spaulding cemetery. Mr. Horn was a long time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #1157, Rockwood, Mi.
Visitation will be held Friday and Saturday night, 6 p.m., at Little Yellow Church on Jennies Creek, W. Va.. Funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Little Yellow Church.

Mary Sparks
Mary Rose Sparks, 75, of Kermit, W. Va., passed away Monday, February 16, 2004, at Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born March 19, 1928, to Mabel Pope of Rockey Mount, Va., and the late Gilbert Pope and Mabel Pope, she was a retired employee of Inez Deposit Bank.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Sparks.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Clyde Sparks of Kermit, W. Va.; sons, Charles (Sue) Sparks of Kermit, W. Va., Jim (Robin) Sparks of Richmond, Va. and Bob (Sharon) Sparks of Kenova, W. Va.; brothers and sisters, Jim (Sue) Pope of Bedford, Va., Linda (Charles) Staten of Bedford, Va., Jean (Kenneth) Bevins of Salem, Va. and Patty (Larry) Hudson of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Bryan, Angela, Andrea, Jonathan and Elizabeth; and great grandsons, Kyle A. Sparks.; and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, noon, at Kermit United Baptist Church with Benny Kirk, Mose Brewer and Mack Sparks officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest cemetery, Kenova, W. Va.
Visitation will be held at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home Wednesday, from 6 - 9 p.m.

George Kennedy
George W. Kennedy, 85, of Beech Creek, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 16, 2004. He died at the ARH Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.
He was born on February 22, 1917 at Devon, W. Va., a son of the late Francis Marion and Rose (Hall) Kennedy. He was a retired coal miner and was of the Jesus Name Faith at Varney Fundamental Christian Church. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Marie Murphy; three brothers, Edison, Frank and Arthur Kennedy; four sisters, Helen Ratcliff, Cynthia Marcum, Minnie Jonas and Noreen Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Ocie Maynard Kennedy; two daughters, Georgia (Jimmy) Goad and Shirley (Willie_ Richmond, both of Beech Creek; four grandchildren, Ronnie Murphy of Beech Creek, Diane Stehno of Athens, Tenn., Gloria Goad of Williamson and Marcella Charles of Matewan; eight great grandchildren, Jody, Kaitlin and Tyler McCoy, Natosha Ledford, Eric and Kayla Murphy, Grant Charles and Ragan Marcum; two great great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Nicholas McCoy; and a host of wonderful friends and neighbors who loved him.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton with the Rev. Raven Fields of Ohio officiating. Burial will follow in the Kennedy cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2004 with services at 7 p.m.

Ronald 'Duke' Varney
Ronald "Duke" Varney, 53, of Varney, W. Va., went to be with the Lord February 26, 2004.
He was born April 15, 1950, at Kermit, W. Va. He was the son of the late Ray Varney and survived by his mother, Louise Meade King of Richmond, Va.
Mr. Varney was a retired coal miner having worked more than 28 years and a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He was also a member of the Pie Church of God.
His survivors include wife, Penny White Varney; daughters, Kimberly Varney, Kelly Varney and Ronni Sue Varney, all of Varney, W. Va.; son, Michael Ray and his wife Amy Varney of Varney, W. Va.; grandchildren, Amber Waldrop, Parker, Tori and Kylee Varney; brothers, Michael and wife Janice Varney of Lancaster, S.C. and Swanee and wife Joyce Varney of Laurel Creek, W. Va.; sisters, Janice and husband Everette Russell and Mary and husband John Varney, both of Rock Hill, S.C. and Cathy Williams of Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be held at the Pie Church of God Monday, March 1, 2004, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Varney cemetery at Varney, W. Va.
Visitation will be at the church after 6 p.m. Saturday and all day Sunday with services starting nightly at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Brandon, Michael, Terry, Troy "Rudy, " David and Thirl Varney and Brian Wellman and George Hatfield.

Francine Browning
Francine Simmons Koon Browning, 67, of Switzer, W. Va., died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at her home.
She was born April 22, 1936, in Usher County, W. Va., a daughter of the late Harry and Saddis Wolfe Simmons.
In addition to her parents, Francine was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey T. Browning; two sons, Davis Eugene Koon and Timothy Arnold Koon; one daughter, Sherry Lynn Chafins; four brothers, Ronnie Simmons, Donnie SImmons, Eugene Simmons and Dorman Simmons; one sister, Betty Joe Lambert and one granddaughter, Tabatha Lynn Keller.
She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include: her ex-husband, Rev. Orvis A. Koon of Buckhannon; one son, Raymond D. (Phoebe) Koon of Chauncey; four daughters, Naomi C. (David) Wren of Jacksonville, Fla.; Twila J. (Reather) Gillman of Chauncey; Sheila M. (Tom) Craddock of Lake and Tabatha D. Moss (Kenny Fleming, Jr.) of Switzer; two brothers, Dennis (Sue) Minor of Medina, Ohio and Rev. Benny (Carolyn) Simmons of Arbovale; nine sisters, Patricia Fisher of Scott Depot; Avis (Dixon) Allen of Ruther Glen, Va.; Eva (Edward) Perine and Etta Joe (Grover) Russell, both of Buckhannon; Cleo Mane of Arizona; Wanda Burr of Clarksburg; Beverly (Tim) Ashcraft, Virginia Beach, Va.; Merlene (Bob) Thompson of Texas and Beryl Dennis of Ormand Beach, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2004, at the Faith Tabernacle Church at Brushy Fork, Buckhannon, with Rev. Carlos Dingess and Rev. Jimmy lee Russell officiating.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. 9 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at the Collins Funeral Home Chapel at Switzer and two hours prior to the funeral at the church.
Services at the visitation will be conducted by Rev. Dicky Browning and Rev. Carlos Dingess.

Katharine Rhodes
Katharine Elaine Maynard Rhodes, 25, of Lenore, W. Va., passed away Saturday, February 7, 2004, near Ripley, W. Va.
Born May 11, 1978, in Huntington, W. Va., to Larry (Sammy) and Sharon Meade Maynard of Inez, Ky., she was a homemaker. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of Gospel Light Freewill Baptist Church and a 1997 graduate of Sheldon Clark High School. She was head majorette, led the color guard to its first Distinguished award and active in the youth choir.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Brian Maynard; grandfathers, Herbert D. Meade of Marrowbone, W. Va. and Ira Kirk of Kermit, W. Va.; stepgrandparents, Sherman Parsley of Lovely, Ky. and Nancy Maynard..
Surviving are her husband, Jeremy Scott Rhodes of Lenore, W. Va.; son, Jeremy Brian Rhodes of the home; daughter, Kaitlynn Denae Rhodes of the home; brothers, Michael Sam Maynard of Inez, Ky. and Steven Brooks Maynard of Inez, Ky.; grandmothers, Effie Spaulding Meade of Marrowbone, W. Va. and Mida Parsley of Lovely, Ky.; father and mother-in-law, Rodney and Linda Rhodes; sister-in-law, Carrie Rhodes Jude; and brothers-in-law, Shawn Rhodes and Steve Rhodes. She was blessed with a large and loving family and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2004, 1 p.m., at Gospel Light Freewill Baptist Church with Kenneth Allen, Ray Messer Jr. and Jack Small officiating. Burial will follow in the Brewer cemetery, Marrowbone, W. Va.

Mikey Butcher
Mikey Shawn Butcher, 19, of Ragland, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 1, 1984 at Williamson, W. Va., the son of Shirley Butcher Mullins and his step-father Wilburn Mullins of Ragland, W. Va.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Mickey Butcher; and a grandfather, Thomas "Macky" Butcher.
He is survived by brothers, Brian, Donald "Bear, " Andrew, Joey and Jamie Butcher and Noah Evans, all of Ragland, W. Va.; sisters, Teesha Mullins, Nicole Butcher, both of Ragland, W. Va.; special cousins, Shane, Jacob, Natasha, Summer Angel, Whitne and Katelyn Butcher and Cheyenne and Gene Kolffe; aunts and uncles, Cathy Perry Hatfield, Macky (Amy) Butcher, Renee (Jr.) Kolffe and Noah and Connie Evans; special friends, Christopher Spradlin and Billy Blair and a host of beloved friends.
Mikey was outgoing and loved life. He loved everyone and always made you laugh. He was loved so much and will be sadly missed.

Nesbith Goff Hankins, 97, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of the Pond Creek area, died Monday morning, May 31, 2004, in the Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home, Huntersville, N.C.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete but visitation will be from 1 - 5 p.m. and from 6 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Elmer Tingler
Elmer Tingler, 81, of Rt. 1 Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W. Va.
He was born November 26, 1922 at Parsley, W. Va., the son of the late Aaron and Elizabeth Evans Tingler. He was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Tingler was a graduate of Lenore High School. He was also a member of the Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist Church at Lenore, W. Va. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp., was a member of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII. He was with the Invasion of Okinawa.
After returning home, he went to work for Island Creek Coal Corp. for more than 30 years. He retired from Sycamore Mining Co. as an electrician. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America for 58 years in which he still belonged. Mr. Tingler was a member of the Masonic Lodge Kermit #167, Kermit, W. Va.; a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Charleston, W. Va.; and a member of the VFW 8001, Delbarton, W. Va.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy L. Tingler; one son, Elmer Aaron Tingler of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Lena J. and husband Marty Ferguson of Hurricane, W. Va.; a grandson, Derek Tingler of Hurricane, W. Va.; two granddaughters, Ashley Johnson of Hurricane, W. Va. and Melissa Tingler of Shreveport, La.; sisters, June Crigger of Ripley, W. Va. and Alice Preece of Ragland, W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Parsley Bottom Freewill Baptist church Monday, June 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Runyon and Rev. Ray Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va.
Visitation will be at the church after 6 p.m. Sunday evening with services starting at 7 p.m. with Elder Jimmy Maynard officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Dempsey, Rush Dempsey, Ance Curry and Cloyd Adkins. The Disabled Veterans will conduct graveside rites.

Patricia Brown
Patricia Ernestine Brown, 61, of Hollywood, Md., died at home on Wednesday, June 9, 2004.
Born on December 24, 1942 in Kimper, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Howard and Hazel Smith Chapman. Mrs. Brown worked in date entry for BA&E in government contracting.
She is survived by her husband, Charles S. Brown of Hollywood, Md.; children, Charles Brown, Jr. of Severn, Md., Bruce B. Brown of Chesapeake, Va., Cindy Brown of Louisville, Ky., Cathy Picard of Lexington Park, Md. and Melissa Oliveras of Hollywood, Md.; brothers, Dan Chapman of Canada, Ky. and Ralph Chapman of McAndrews, Ky.; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Faye Bassinger.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 11, 2004, at the Lexington Park United Methodist Church, 21760 Great Mills Road, Lexington Park, Md. 20653 from 4 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 - 11 a.m. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken Walker officiating. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Great Mills, Md. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Picard, Rick Carroll, Donald Strickland, Donnie Strickland, Larry Profitt, and Ronald Strickland.
