Grethel Blankenship
Grethel Faye Norman Blankenship, 71, of the Mingo Manor Nursing Home, Williamson, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 31, 1933, in Thacker, a daughter of the late Landon "Doc" and Oma Warf Norman. She was a homemaker and a mother. She was a member of the Stone Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Blankenship; a daughter, Wanda K. Adkins; a son, Hollie Blankenship; three brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Blankenship is survived by two sons, Linville (Monique) Blankenship of Ohio and Marvin (Melody) Blankenship of Florida; three daughters, Wilma (Terry) Blair of Stone, Ky., Marilyn (Randy) Carter of Virginia and Sarah Jane (Jeff) Layne of Tennessee; three brothers, Henry Norman and Denver Norman, both of Illinois, and Landon Norman Jr. of Georgia; six sisters, Barbara Lester of West Virginia, Lora Lou Dotson of Freeburn, Ky., Patricia Norman of Ashland, Ky., Judith Norman of Texas, and Tina Peterson and Janice Snover, both of Illinois; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Pat Van of Stone.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at the Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry, Ky., with Robert Stevens of the Stone Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.

Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home with special services beginning at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.

Walter Jude
Walter Jude, 87, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born May 2, 1917, in Pike County, Ky., to the late Edmond Jude and Cloe Phillips Jude, he was a retired coal miner with 27 years of service with mine #25 at Ragland, W. Va. He was a member of the UMWA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Zella Amburgy Jude; brothers, Clifford Jude and Benjamin Jude; sisters, Reba McCloud, Ada Mae Preston and Marceline McClellan; and first wife, C. Lois Jude.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Lucille Ireson Jude; stepsons, Ernest (Sandra) Shull of Ashville, Md., Charles Benjamin (Rose) Shull of Grove City, Ohio and Lloyd Eugene (Nina) Shull of Crooksville, Ohio; stepdaughters, Georgia Louise (Merle) Williams of Cattletsburg, Ky. and Patricia (Charles) Smith of Delbarton, W. Va.; brother, Leo (Gaye) Jude of Barboursville, W. Va.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a very close and dear friend, Garnet Lockard.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 7, 2004, 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Gary Imes officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Friday evening, August 6, 2004, 6 - 9 p.m. at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Rhodes Ooten
Rhodes Ooten Jr., 75, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in the Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston.

He was born Feb. 20, 1929, at Bias, W. Va., a son of the late Rhodes Sr. and Pearl Farley Ooten.

Mr. Ooten was also preceded in death by three half-brothers, Jody, Sid and Ballard Ooten; one half-sister, Vada Ooten; and two brothers, Willis and Tennis Ooten.

Mr. Ooten was a retired school bus driver and minister. He was also the former owner of Ooten's Furniture and Appliance Store for more than 35 years.

He was a member of the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Farley Ooten; two sons, Rhodes (Vivian) Ooten III of Lenore and Kenneth Ooten of Delbarton; one brother, Noah Ooten of Bias; two sisters, Nancy Salmons of Columbus, Ohio, and Matilda Ferrell of Bias; two grandchildren, Brian and Brandon Ooten.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church with Elder Eddie Layne and the Rev. Don Stroud officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ooten cemetery at Duncan Fork.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at the Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton. Special services begin at 7 p.m.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Toler
Earl "Bee" Toler, 69, of Hanover, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 25, 1934, at Verner, W. Va., a son of the late Paris and Helen Toler Toler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert with the Rev. Diamond Carter, the Rev. Robert Walker and the Rev. Cesil Musick officiating.

Burial will follow in Grimmett & Browning cemetery at Bruno, W. Va.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of arrangements.

Boyd Gillman
Boyd Gillman, 58, of Delbarton, W. Va., died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.

He was born Dec. 15, 1945, at Scarlet Rd., Mingo County, a son of the late Allen and Nettie Dingess Gillman.

Mr. Gillman was a disabled coal miner and attended the Jesus Name Church.

He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Joann Gillman; one sister, Nettie Dempsey; one grandchild.

Survivors include one son, Michael Dale Gillman of Delbarton; six daughters, Lana (David) Crum of Chauncey, Joanne (Jerry) Wellman of Belo, Kathy (Juan) Trejo of Whitman, Melissa (Melvin) Lowe of Omar, Lavonne (Dehue) Dillon of Dingess, and Christina (Michael) Hall of South Carolina; 18 grandchildren, Jessica Crum, Kimberly and Misty Blevins, Timothy, Matthew and Jamie Goodson, Michael Runyon, Keith and Tina Blevins, Kandice, Cheyenne Trejo, Mellisa Blevins, Melvin Lowe, Richie Ooten, Kassie Ooten, Brandon Dillon, Jeremy, Brittany and Christopher Hall; two great-grandchildren, Hailey June Goodson and Kaylee Crum.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church at Rossmore with the Rev. Damon Murphy and Ted Hensley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Gillman Family cemetery at Scarlet Road.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at the church.

Grandsons Mathew, Keith, Michael, Jeremy, Melvin and Richie will serve as pallbearers.

Collins Funeral Home in Switzer is in charge of arrangements.

Oscar Dingess
Oscar Dingess, 66, of Dingess, W. Va., died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, in the General Division of Charleston Area Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 20, 1938, at Dingess, a son of the late Elmer and Lizzie Likens Dingess.

Mr. Dingess was also preceded in death by four brothers, Charlie, Roger, Willard and Milton Dingess.

He was a former district director of the Mingo County EOC and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Duane (Brenda) Dingess of Dingess; one granddaughter, Brittney Dingess; three nephews; and three nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at the Connerstone Christian Center at Dingess with the Rev. Eddie Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in Dingess cemetery at Dingess.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at the church.

James Funeral Home in Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.

Julia Meszaros-Toth

Meszaros-Toth, Julia, 74, of Lincoln Park, Mich., formerly of Red Jacket, W. Va., passed away Friday, August 13, 2004.

She is survived by her husband John; son, Jon; daughter, Judith; one brother; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2004, 11 a.m., at John Molnar Funeral Home, 14032 Northline Road, Southgate, Mich. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 15, 2004 from 5:30 - 9 p.m. and Monday, August 16, 2004, from 2 - 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Arrangements directed by Chambers Funeral Services, Inc., of Matewan, W. Va.

Joe Davis, Jr.

Joe Davis, Jr., 62, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Monday, August 16, 2004, in the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

He was born August 6, 1942 in Delbarton, W. Va. He was the son of the late Joe and Nora Marcum Davis.

He is survived by brothers, Ricky (Mary) Davis of Delbarton, W. Va., Jerry (Anna) Davis of Willard, Ohio and Julius (Jan) Davis of Clyde, Ohio; sister, Sandra (Mike) Peters of Belleview, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at the Lenore Memorial Gardens at Lenore, W. Va., Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. with Rev. Lewis Hall officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton, W. Va.

Joe Roberts

Joe Thomas Roberts, 73, of North Matewan, W. Va., passed away Monday, August 16, 2004, at his residence.

Born November 22, 1930, in Sharondale, Ky., to the late Virgil Roberts and Winnie Smith Roberts, he was a retired truck driver for Point Express. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Larry Roberts.

Surviving are special friend, Sylvia Roberson; sons, Delano Roberts of McAndrews, Ky., Thomas Edwards Roberts of Fort Walton, Fla., Timmy Roberts of Seiverville, Tenn., Benny Roberts of Seiverville, Tenn. and Wayne Roberts of Seiverville, Tenn.; daughters, Donna Dye of Martin, Ky. and Debbie Hyden of Ashland, Ky.; brothers, Curtis Roberts of Longview, Tex. and Jay Roberts of Williamson, W. Va.; sisters, Gertrude Collins of Durham, N.C. and Sally Blackburn of Williamson, W. Va.; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2004, 1 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with Ron Sanger officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.

Serving as pallbearers are Danny Collins, Damon Chafin, Sonny Dixon, Bobby Webb, Thomas Ward, Joe Kinder, Larry Smith, Robert Smith, Jr., Don Roberson, Rodney Cline, Jr., Ronnie Blackburn and grandsons.

Visitations will be held after 6 pm. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.

Juanita Koren
Juanita Koren, 84, of Lake Alfred, Fla., formerly of Williamson, W. Va., died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Life Care Center in Winter Haven, Fla.

She was born Oct. 27, 1919, at Logan, W. Va., a daughter of the late Cecil O. and Esther Austin Medley.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mike Koren; two daughters, Karen Koren and Duffy DePue.

She was a retired public librarian for the Williamson Public Library and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winter Haven. She also volunteered at Eagle Lake Elementary.

Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Koren of Lake Alfred, Fla.; one sister, Blanche Bowen of Lake Alfred; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven.

Burial will be Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. A graveside service with the Rev. George Terlizzi officiating will be held at 11 a.m.

Friends will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

George Stanley
George Stanley, 79, of Williamson, W. Va., died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Joe Roberts

Funeral services for Joe Thomas Roberts, 73, of North Matewan, W. Va., have been changed to 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004 at Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry is in charge of arrangements.
