Billy Hatfield
Billy B. Hatfield, 62, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born October 21, 1942, in Ransom, Ky., to the late Glen "Giant" Hatfield and Lorene Runyon Hatfield, he was a retired fireman from the Williamson Fire Department where he served as a Lieutenant.

Bill was an excellent driver/pump operator and a good all-around firefighter. After retirement, he continued to serve the department as Chaplain before passing the torch over to fellow retired fireman Lt. Butch Beckett. Bill enjoyed visiting the fire station regularly after his retirement where he often bought lunch for the guys on duty and spent countless hours reliving past fires.

After being diagnosed with cancer, he became a great source of inspiration to all the firefighters by valiantly fighting the battle against the cancer and never giving up. Before joining the fire department, Bill served on the Williamson Police Department where he served as Chief of Police from 1974-1976. All together, he served the City of Williamson for 26 years.

Bill was an ordained minister and was an active trustee for the 5th Avenue Church of Christ. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason being a member of the O'Brien Lodge #101 and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine.

He served in the West Virginia National Guard where he worked the infamous Buffalo Creek flood disaster in the early 70s that killed so many innocent people. The one thing in life that brought him more joy and happiness was his wife Jo. He truly loved her more than anything on earth.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Hatfield of Williamson, W. Va.; son, Bryan Keith (Jennifer) Hatfield of Charlotte, N.C.; special son, Steve Kelly Bowen of Hatfield, Ky.; daughters, Amy Hatfield of Ceredo, W. Va. and Angie Hatfield of Ceredo, W. Va.; niece, Georgia Cisco of Charleston, W. Va.; nephew, Gaylen (Sandy) Cisco of Kenova, W. Va.; grandchildren, Weston Keith, Tyler Jacob, and Brayden Cole Hatfield, Gaylen David Cisco Jr., Elizabeth Kelly Bowen and Jaxon Bryan Kinder. Also surviving are a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 3, 2004, 2 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Minister William Waters officiating. Following the services, as per his request, his body will be cremated.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are the men of 5th Avenue Church of Christ. Active pallbearers are the members Williamson Fire Department.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

The family has asked that donations be made in Bill's honor to either the 5th Ave. Church of Christ Mission Fund or the Intermission on 3rd Ave. in Williamson.

Williamson Fire Department flags will be flown at half mast until 5 p.m. Friday in honor of Bill.

Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky., has assisted the family with arrangements.

Rudolph Slater, Sr.
Rudolph Slater, Sr., 76, of Williamson, W. Va., went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division, Charleston, W. Va.

He was born February 16, 1928, in Slaters Branch, Ky., to the late Oliver Slater and Hattie Lawson Slater.

He was a well known businessman and operated the Flowers Bakery in West Williamson. He began his career with Betsy Ross Bakery in 1948 and later joined the Flowers Baking Family. He retired after 45 years of service.

Rudolph served in the United States Army having enlisted with his twin brother Randolph, in 1946. The twins served in the Korean Conflict. Rudolph reenlisted in 1951 and was then stationed in Indiantown Gap, Pa.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, a 32nd Degree Mason, Beni Kedem Shriner, Williamson Elks Lodge #1408, Williamson Moose Lodge, Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce and he was a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Hubert, Billy and Randolph.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Jane Scott Slater; sons, Rudolph "Rudy" Slater, Jr. and his wife, Chris, of Williamson and Scott Slater and his wife, Kelly, of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters, Jane Williams Peebles, Ohio and Lakie and her husband Bruce Rosen of South Williamson, Ky.; brother, J.D. Slater of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Janice Maynard and Noka Olaker, both of Williamson and Ernestine Mounts of Thomasville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Tracy Kohari, Melissa and Tony Williams, Joshua Slater and Erica Rosen; and two great grandchildren, Mallory and Cameron Kohari. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rudolph's kind spirit and generosity will be greatly missed by his family and the community.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 5, 2004, 1 p.m., at Weaver Mortuary, with long time friend Rev. Mike Kohari officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va. Disabled American Veterans, Belfry, Ky. Chapter #141 will perform military rites.

Serving as pallbearers are his nephews, Steve Maynard, Marvin Slater, Doug Mounts, Gary Mounts, Harold Blair, Kevin Slater, Jeff Slater and Ricky Maynard. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Dearfield, Bill Gasperson, Richard Mayse, Fred Salyers, Bruce McCoy, Steve Cullop, Mike Cullop, Johnny Hatfield, Fuzzy Keesee, Tommy Bevins, Gary McMillan, Teddy Robinette, Tommy Preece, A.J. Ryan, Greg Jessie, Jess Maggard, Mike Slater, Jack Blackburn, John Weaver and Mark Colegrove.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, 5 - 9 p.m. at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson, W. Va.

Anthony Mullins II
Anthony Mullins, II, 35, of Red Jacket, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at his home.

He was born June 22, 1969 in South Williamson, Ky., the son of the late Maggie Coleman Mullins and his father who survives, Chester Mullins of Red Jacket, W. Va. He was a coal miner.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Kay Mullins; sons, Anthony Mullins III of the home, and Harold L. Mullins of Ritchie County, W. Va.; daughters, Heather Brook Mullins and Maggie Lynette Mullins both of Ritchie County, W. Va.; stepchildren, Adam Neil and Thomas W. White of Delbarton, W. Va.; brothers, Robert and Bill Mullins, both of Red Jacket, W. Va.; sister, Mary Beth Hatfield of Red Jacket, W. Va.; uncle, Harold Coleman; and two aunts, Jeanette Collins and Marie Ferrell.

Funeral services will be held at the Ragland Church of God Sunday, December 5, 2004, at 12 noon with the Rev. Glen Merritt and Nathaniel Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mullins cemetery at Meador, W. Va.

Visitation will be at the church Saturday evening from 5 - 10 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Harold Dillon, Robbie, Bill and David Bryant and Harold Coleman.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Burke
William Ralph Burke, 76, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Friday, December 3, 2004, at South Williamson ARH.

Born April 11, 1928, in North Matewan, W. Va., to the late Albert Burke and Mattie Steele Burke, he was the Protestant faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict/

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Zelta June Varney Burke; son, Robert Varney; and a host of brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his son, William Burke II (Linda) of Delbarton, W. Va.; daughter, Velma Dotson of Ransom, Ky.; brothers, Herbert Burke of Taylorville, W. Va. and Dewey Burke of Wisconsin; sisters, Emma Burke of Ellergy, Ohio and Ailene Burke of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a host of nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Connie; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services Monday, December 6, 2004, 11 a.m., at Chambers Funeral Services' Chapel with Revs. Dallas Rafie and Bill Snodgrass officiating. Burial will follow at Williams cemetery at Delbarton, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5, 2004, at the chapel from 6 - 9 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc. of Matewan, W. Va.

Amanda Gibson
Amanda Gibson, 26, or Wharncliffe, W. Va., died Thursday, December 2, 2004.

Born July 7, 1978 in South Williamson, Ky., she was a daughter of Clark Gable Gibson of Delbarton, W. Va. and the late Ada Pearl Gibson.

In addition to her mother, Amanda was preceded in death by her grandmother, Ruth Ann Gibson and an uncle, Donald Spence.

She was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith. Amanda was a graduate of Gilbert High School.

In addition to her father, survivors include: a daughter, Tesla Gibson of Delbarton, W. Va.; stepmother, Tammy Gibson of Delbarton, W. Va.; a stepsister Chelsea Robinette of Delbarton, W. Va.; one stepbrother, Russell Robinette, Delbarton, W. Va. and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2004, at the Mounts Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Danny Ward officiating.

Burial will follow in the Spence Family cemetery at Wharncliffe, W. Va. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 5, 2004 beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mounts Funeral Home, Gilbert, W. Va.

Geneva Hatfield-Loos
Geneva Ruth Hatfield-Loos, 64, of 2900 Reidville Road, Spartanburg, S.C., passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Wetzel and Liddle Margaret Lockhart Hatfield.

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 6, 2004, 2 p.m., at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Stribling Funeral of Duncan, S.C., is in charge of the arrangements.

William Burke
William Ralph Burke, 76, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Friday, December 3, 2004, at South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Lloyd Harlow, Jr.
Lloyd K. Harlow, Jr., 52, of Williamson, W. Va., died Friday, December 3, 2004, at Belo, W. Va. from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born September, 1, 1952, in Williamson, W. Va., to the late Lloyd and Helen Gallardo Harlow.

He was employed by Allegheny Power Co. for over 26 years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, David Harlow.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Tincher Harlow of Williamson, W. Va.; son, Brian (Pam) Harlow of Williamson, W. Va.; daughter, Shelly Harlow of Morgantown, W. Va.; brother-in-law, David (JoAnne) Tincher of Williamson, W. Va.; sister-in-law, Christine (Rudy) Slater of Williamson, W. Va.; two grandchildren, Ashley and Lindsay Harlow; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Emery Varney officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m., Monday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Amanda Gibson
Amanda Lou Gibson, 26, of Wharncliffe, W. Va., died Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Wharncliffe, W. Va.

Born July 7, 1978, in South Williamson, Ky., to Clark Gable Gibson of Delbarton and the late Ada Pearl Gibson.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by grandmother, Ruth Ann Gibson; an uncle, Donald Spence.

In addition to her father, she is survived by stepmother, Tammy Gibson of Delbarton, W. Va.; daughter, Telsa Gibson of Delbarton, W. Va.; step-sister, Chelsea Robinette of Delbarton, W. Va.; step-brother, Russell Robinette of Delbarton, W. Va.; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 5, 2004, at 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Danny ward officiating.

Haskel Williamson
Haskel Williamson, 75, of Holden, W. Va., departed this life on Friday, December 3, 2004, at the Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born March 15, 1929, in Mingo County, to the late Mose B. and Delilah Maynard Williamson.

He is preceded in death by three brothers; Garland, Archie, and Jim Williamson; four sisters, Sadie Williamson Perry, Nary Aldridge, Georgia Williamson, and Hazel Spaulding Dingess; three step-brothers, Lacy, Lloyd, and Landon Tomblins; four step-sisters, Roxie Bryant, Lona Sargent, Nettie Belcher, and Lena Christian.

Haskel was a retired coal miner working as a drill-operator and dispatcher along with the other jobs for the former Amherst Coal Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving on the front lines during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the UMWA. He was also a member of the Maryetta United Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gay Williamson; two sons, Bobby (Teresa) Williamson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Haskel Ricky (Pam) Williamson of Holden, W. Va.; four daughters, Oretha (Terry) Collins of Holden, W. Va., Sarah (Ernie) Stamper of Dandridge, Tenn., Dollene (Eugene) Bailey of Holden, W. Va., and Tina (Wayne) Fry of Stollings, W. Va.; a brother, Earl Williamson of Mudfork, W. Va.; a sister, Marie Sargent in Logan Park Care, Logan, W. Va.; one step-sister, Gladys Sutherland of Wayne, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren, Ben and Heather Collins, Tera Collins, Nathan Williamson, Jessica Williamson, Tara Dotson, Wesley Robertson, Claressa Stamper, Evan Stamper, Jeremy Bialey, Daniel Bailey, Blake Fry, and Ashton Fry, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2004, at 11 a.m., at the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville, W. Va., with Pastors Lonnie Gore, Jr. and Barney Goins officiating.

Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn cemetery at Pecks Mill, W. Va.

Friends may call Sunday from 6-9 at the church.

Pallbearers will be Ben Collins, Nathan Williamson, Wesley Robertson, Evan Stamper, Ricky Williamson, and Bobby Williamson.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Logan, W. Va.
