Willard Ross III
Willard "Sugarfoot" Ross III, 45, of North Matewan, W. Va., passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005, at Pikeville Medical Center.

Born September 6, 1959, in Williamson, W. Va., to the late Willard Ross Jr. and Anna Rose Thornsberry Ross, he was a disabled worker from Standard Concrete and of the Holiness faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew "Sweet Pea" Ross; and niece, Tracy Renee Ross.

Surviving are his wife, Connie Ross of North Matewan, W. Va.; son, Matthew Honaker of North Matewan; daughter, Kayla Ross of North Matewan; brothers, Tony Ray Ross of North Matewan, Ossie (Cindy) Ross of North Matewan and Michael (Wanda) Ross of Beech Creek; and sister, Melinda Hurley of North Matewan. Also surviving are three nephews, five nieces, one great niece and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005, 12 noon, at Cornerstone Church at Matewan, W. Va. with Jim Ed Whitt and Dave Stratton officiating. Interment will follow at Ross Family cemetery at North Matewan, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Friday evening at the church with services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

William Hall Jr.
William "Billy" Hall, Jr., 69, of Trace Creek, W. Va., passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005, in the Logan General Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Chafin Funeral Home at a later time.

Ronald Cline
Ronald Cline, 74, of Baisden, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at his residence. He was son of the late Emmett and Verda Cline.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at the Rosie Baptist church at Baisden at 2 p.m. Friends may call after 6 p.m. at the church on Friday.

Collins Funeral Home of Switzer is in charge of the arrangements.

Herbert Lester
Herbert Lee Lester, 83, of Baisden, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2005.

Born February 11, 1921, in Baisden, W. Va., to the late Dave and Lizzie Cline Lester, he was a retired coal miner and a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Full Gospel Church of God at Baisden, W. Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Cline Lester; one sister, Ester Davis; five brothers, Billy Lester, Hilden Lester, Mike Lester, Clyde Lester and Sherman Lester.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Margaret Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; mother-in-law, Marie Bishop of Ikes Fork, W. Va.; one daughter, Lesa (Robert) Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; two sons, Brian (Penny) Lester of Baisden, W. Va. and Ricky (Rena) Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; three grandsons, Wesley Matthew Lester of Baisden, W. Va., Tyler Chase Lester of Baisden, W. Va. and Trey Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; one granddaughter, Valerie Rose Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; two step-grandchildren, Debrina Hill of Baisden, W. Va. and Eric Hill of Baisden, W. Va.; one sister, Emmel Lester of Baisden, W. Va.; and four brothers, Jason (Emogene) Lester of Baisden, W. Va., Joe (Mollie) Lester of Baisden, W. Va., Leck (Marcie) Lester of Baisden, W. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005, 1 p.m., at Full Gospel Church of God at Baisden, W. Va. with Rev. Jonas Trent, Rev. James Cline, Rev. Clifford Trent, Rev. Albert Grimmett and Rev. Learmon Mounts officiating. Burial will follow at the Dave and Lizzie Lester cemetery, Baisden, W. Va.

Charles Tucker Morgan, 74, of Long Branch Hollow, Simon, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at his residence.

He was born September 19, 1930, in Simon, W. Va., to the late Ted and Mary Morgan Morgan.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005, 2 p.m. at Upper Room Jesus Name Church at Long Branch, W. Va. with Rev. Bill Goode, Rev. Brad Kennedy and Rev. Joe Toler officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan cemetery, Long Branch Mountain, Simon, W. Va.

Friends May call the Upper Room Jesus Name Church at Long Branch (Simon), Thursday, February 10, 2005 and Friday, February 11, 2005, evenings after 6 p.m.

Verlie Manuel

Verlie Ethel "Katie" Manuel, 89, of Wharncliffe, W. Va., passed away Monday, January 31, 2005, at McDowell Continuous Care Center at Gary, W. Va.

Born May 1, 1915, in Wharncliffe, W. Va., to the late Walter and Rebecca Stinson Cline, she was a homemaker. and a member of Wharncliffe Church of God at Wharncliffe, W. Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Manuel; two sons, Boley Trent and Eugene Trent; two granddaughters, Diane Trent and Jaquetta Trent; five brothers, Earl Cline, Hansford Cline, Walter Cline Jr., Charles Cline and Shirl Cline; and two sisters, Violet Compton and Lillian Trent.

Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca Cline of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; two brothers, Clifford and wife (Ider) Cline of Wharncliffe, W. Va. and Glen and wife (Rita) Cline of Delbarton, W. Va.; one sister, Lovis Hughes of Gilbert, W.Va, ; one daughter-in-law, Frances Trent of Gilbert, W. Va.; two sisters-in-law, Faye Cline of Wharncliffe, W. Va. and Truby Cline of Gilbert, W. Va.; two caregivers, Terri Cline of Baisden, W. Va. and Misti Dotson of Wharncliffe, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 4, 2005, 12 noon, at Wharncliffe Church of God at Wharncliffe, W. Va., with Rev. Eddie Compton officiating. Burial will follow at Beechfork cemetery, Gay Hollow, Wharncliffe, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Hazel Cline Elkins, 87, of Baisden, W. Va., passed away Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Baptist West Hospital, Knoxville, Tenn.

She was born August 26, 1917 in Gilbert, W. Va., to the late Howard and Maude Justice Hatfield.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2005, 11 a.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with Rev. Jim Nagy and Rev. Mason Perry officiating.

Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Godby Heights, W. Va.

Columbus Bradford, Jr., 52, of Wharncliffe, W. Va., passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington, W. Va.

Born February 24, 1952, in Welch, W. Va., to Columbus "Lum" Sr. and Bertha Prater Bradford of Wharncliffe, W. Va., he was a carpenter and of the Church of God faith.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Patty Bradford of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; his parents, Columbus "Lum Sr. and Bertha Bradford of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; one son, William (Randa) Bradford of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; two daughters, Tammy (Jody) Sutters of Maiden, N.C. and Bonnie (Wayne) Mounts of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; four grandchildren, Dustin Sutters, Zackary Sutters, Curtis Wayne Mounts Jr. and Kimberly Mounts; three brothers, Timmy (Joann) Bradford of Tennessee, Gary (Sandy) Bradford of Wharncliffe, W. Va. and Troy (Shelia) Bradford of North Carolina; three sisters, Michelle (Benny) Webb of Arkansas, Loretta (Virgil) Hatfield of Wharncliffe, W. Va. and Treva Dotson of Delbarton, W. Va.; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 13, 2005, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel at Gilbert, W. Va. with Rev. Danny Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Bradford Family cemetery, Wharncliffe, W. Va.

William Hall, Jr.
William "Billy" Hall, Jr., 69, of Trace Creek, W. Va. went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Logan Regional Hospital.

He was born March 4, 1935 at Scarlet, W. Va., the son of the late William and Leotia Runyon Hall. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ance and Nicholas Hall; and two sisters, Lovie and Juanita Hall.

Billy was a very dedicated member of the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church and a member of the UMWA.

He was a dedicated husband of 45-1/2 years to his beloved wife, Brookie Maynard Hall.

Other survivors include sons, Glen "Ace" and wife Debbie Hall of Belfry, Ky., William Richard and wife Sarah Hall of Caney, W. Va., and Andrew and wife Marcella Hall of Myrtle, W. Va.; grandchildren, Savannah, Wesley, Amy and Brandon Hall; four step-grandchildren, Debra Jude, Angie Evan, Sarah and Andrew McCoy; six great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth and wife Betty Hall and Teddy and wife Kathy Hall of Delbarton, Christine and husband Elmer Copley of Lenore, W. Va., Letty and husband Asa Dempsey, Genevia and husband Marvin Strunk, Elenora and husband Earnest Gilman, Polly and husband Darrell Mahon and Betty Mae and husband Clarence Robinette all of Delbarton, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at the Duncan Fork United Baptist Church Sunday, February 13, 2005, at 12 noon with Elder Eddie Layne and Pastor Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenore Memorial Gardens at Lenore, W. Va.

Visitation will be at the Chafin Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6 - 9 p.m. Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

George New

George New, 91, of Naugatuck, W. Va., passed away Monday, February 21, 2005, at his home.

Born February 22, 1913, in Wolf Creek, Ky., to the late Matthew New and Tinney Gauze New, he was a retired coal miner and of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Marie New; ex-wife, Lorraine New Deskins; son, George Conley New; grandson, Roney New; and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his sons, Tommy (Shirley) New of Naugatuck and Ernie (Ann) New of Naugatuck; daughters, Christine New of Naugatuck and Evelyn (Bill) Workman of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Douglas New of Nolan; and sister, Kathleen Sheppard of Naugatuck. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several-great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 24, 2005, 1 p.m., at Pilgrim Home United Baptist Church at Maher, W. Va. with Rev. Josh Hall, Rev. Clyde Miller and Rev. Earl White officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va.

Serving as pallbearers are Glen Marcum, Eddie Sheppard, Carl Sheppard, Johnny Caudill, Donnie Jarvis and John Jarvis Jr.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church with special services both nights at 7 p.m.

Eliza Gibson
Eliza "Pearl" Gibson, 94, of Lyburn, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 24, 1910, at Lyburn, W. Va., the daughter of the late Andrew and Lillie Mae Harless.

Mrs. Gibson was also preceded in death by her husband, Hayden Gibson, Sr.; one son, Gordon Spurlock Gibson; four sisters, Mae Wallace, Lola Harless, Eula Harless and Dove Burress; and two brothers, Hobert and Elzie Harless.

She was a homemaker and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Vivian (Tom) Trent of Smithfield, North Carolina and Kay (Homer) Smith of Louisville, Ky.; three sons, Larry Keith (Rhonda) Gibson of Lyburn, W. Va., Hayden (Liz) Gibson, Jr., of Killeen, Texas; and Eric (Corky) Gibson of Lyburn, W. Va.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at James Funeral Home in Logan, W. Va., with the Rev. Homer Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Mullins cemetery at Lyburn, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Surviving are her second husband, Leonard Elkins of Baisden, W. Va.; two daughters, Greta (Big Jim Hatfield) Owens of Gilbert, W. Va. and Brenda (Chuck) Hutzler of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, Jerry Raymond (Glenda) Cline of Baisden, W. Va.; seven grandchildren, David (Dana) Owens, Glenetta Owens, Robin Owens, Raymond (Sarah) Hutzler, Terri Lynn Hutzler, Matthew Hutzler and Angela Cline (Bryan) McComis; and five great grandchildren, Jerome Owens, Daniel Owens, Taylor Owens, Nathan McComis and Holly McComis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2005, 11 a.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with Rev. Jim Nagy and Rev. Mason Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Godby Heights, W. Va.
