Etta Perry
Etta Rachel Perry, 89, of Justice, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at her residence.

Born January 1, 1916, in Verner, W. Va., to the late Leonard and Jane Browning Lester, she was a member of the Isaban Baptist Church at Isaban, W. Va., and served the Lord for 84 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Perry; one daughter, Essie Lambert; one son, James L. Perry; a grandson, Timothy Ray Perry; four brothers, Herbert Lester, Arthur Lester, Shelly Lester and Roy Lester; and four sisters, Algie Kennedy, Zina Browning, Lovicie Cline and Reba Lester.

Surviving are her five daughters, Lila Ellis of Donie, Texas, Judy (Edward) Watts of Justice, W. Va., Erma (Bill) Gadd of Thomasville, Ga., Flo (Michael) Berry of Decatur, Ill. and Diana (Ken) Williams of Thomasville, Ga.; four sons, Jerry (Ruth) Perry and Kistler, W. Va., Rev. Larry Perry of Justice, W. Va., Rev. Mason (Brenda) Perry of Justice, W. Va. and Sidney Perry of Orlando, Fla.; one special nephew, Omas Lester of Iron City, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; known by all as Great Ma.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27, 2005, 1 p.m., at Justice Tabernacle Church with Rev. Mason Perry, Rev. Joe Lester and Rev. Michael Browning officiating. Burial will follow at Davis cemetery, Justice, W. Va.

Serving as active pallbearers are Wayne Ellis, Sr., Joey Ellis, Terry Lambert, Jamie, John Pat, Jim Ed Perry, Larry Perry, Jr., Edward Watts, Jr., Perry Ratliff and Michael A. Berry. Honorary pallbearers are Horace Vance, Terry Hamrick, Rev. Conley Goad, Roger Lester and Elmer Webb, Jr.

Friends may call the Justice Tabernacle Church at Justice, W. Va. Saturday evening, February 26, 2005, from 6 - 10 p.m.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Hospice of Southwest Georgia of Thomasville, Ga. and the Dignity Hospice of Southern West Virginia at Logan, W. Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Archbold Memorial Hospital, Thomasville, Ga.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va. is in charge of arrangements.

Charlie Ferguson
Charlie Miles Ferguson, 84, of Coal Mountain, W. Va., passed Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at his residence.

He was born November 26, 1920, in Huff Creek, W. Va., to the late William and Dixie Paynter Ferguson.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27, 2005, 11 a.m., at Big Cub Missionary Baptist Church at Coal Mountain, W. Va., with Rev. Glenn Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Hatfield cemetery, Coal Mountain, W. Va.

Friends may call the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel at Gilbert, W. Va. Saturday evening, February 26, 2005, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Loftis Randle Steele
Loftis Randle "Randy" Steele, 61, of Newtown, W. Va., formerly of Beech Creek, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at Beech Creek.

Born August 20, 1943, at Meador, W. Va., he was a son of the late Bill and Lenora Steele.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Reba Steele.

He was a disabled coal miner and was in the Church of Christ organization and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He is survived by wife, Mary Steele of Newtown, W. Va.; son, Randy Blain (Kathy) Steele of Beech Creek, W. Va.; daughter, Amy Elizabeth (Mickey) Runyon of Belfry, Ky.; brothers, William (Daphene) Steele of Beech Creek, W. Va., and Craig Steele of Meador, W. Va.; sister, Rita Jackson of Tennessee; grandchildren, Morgan and Roman Runyon and Sasha Farley.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel, Toler, Ky., with Ministers Doug Curry and Archie Kevin Blankenship officiating.

Burial will follow at the Skeens cemetery at Meador, W. Va.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bear Cantrell, Leroy Cantrell, Mark Cantrell, Curtis Looney, Rick Hammond and David Bryant.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Katherine Steele

Katherine "Kathy" Steele, 44, of Beech Creek, W. Va., formerly of Thacker, W. Va., passed away Monday, February 14, 2005, at her residence.

Born March 9, 1960, in Williamson, W. Va., to Orville McGlothlin and June Selly McGlothlin, she was of the Holiness faith.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Michael McGlothlin.

Surviving are her parents, Orville and June McGlothlin of North Matewan, W. Va.; husband, Randy Blaine Steele of Beech Creek, W. Va.; daughters, Selinna (Jacob) Kitchen of Belfry, Ky. and Sasha (Zach) Farley of Nelsonville, Ohio; brothers, Jerry McGlothlin of North Matewan, W. Va. and Orville McGlothlin, Jr. of North Matewan, W. Va.; sister, Paula Collins of Nelsonville, Ohio; and grandchildren, Jordan, Alex and Donavan Kitchen of Belfry, Ky.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, 2005, 12 noon, at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Ray Messer, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Skeens cemetery at Meador, W. Va. with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 6 - 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Jerry Copley

Jerry Lee Copley, 45, of Dingess, W. Va., began his eternal life Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W. Va.

Born April 2, 1959 at Logan, W. Va., to the union of Ira and Marie (Deskins) Copley, Terry was a graduate of the class of 1977 of Lenore High School. Jerry was loved by many. He never met a stranger and could always make you smile. He loved working and was one of the best dozer operators until his illness no longer allowed him to work. He will be missed by all that knew him. He was of the Church of God faith.

Preceding him in death were his father Ira Copley Sr.; grandparents Lawrence and Nora Copley and Nathan and Nancy Deskins; and best friend, Charles Messer.

Left saddened to mourn his loss are his mother, Marie Copley of Dingess, W. Va.; his loving wife Cathy (Vance) Copley of Dingess, W. Va.; his children, Shane Copley of Hickory, N.C., Jerri Louise (Marshall) Copley of Columbus, Ohio and Jordan Vance of Dingess, W. Va.

Surviving are Barry (Sue) Copley, Jimmy Dale (Gail) Copley, Vella (Randall) Bartley, Ira (Debbie) Copley, Jr., Denise (Brian) Jude and Billy Copley, all of Dingess, W. Va.; a host of nieces and nephews, and best friend and cousin, Michael Wayne Browning.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2005, at the Cornerstone Christian Center at Dingess, W. Va., with Rev. Eddie Smith officiating.

A wake service will be held Thursday, February 17, 2005, at 6 p.m., at the church with Rev. Herb Winegard officiating. A private viewing will begin at 4 p.m. for immediate family members only.

Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Copley, Ira Copley, Jr., Jimmy Dale Copley, Bill Copley, Brian Jude and Randall Bartley.

James Funeral Home of Aracoma, W. Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Bishop Sr.
Donald Bishop Sr., 81, of Varney, W. Va., passed away Saturday, February 26, 2005, in the Appalachian Regional Hospital.

He was born July 25, 1923 in Wise, Va. to the late Ezra and Maggie Mullins Bishop.

He was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Veteran.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marvella Fowler Bishop and a brother, Edford Bishop.

His survivors include sons, Donald (Judith) Bishop Jr., and Randy (Kathy) Bishop, both of Varney, W. Va.; brother, Bill Bishop of Williamson, W. Va.; sister, Mable Louise Bishop of Varney, W. Va.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home, Monday, February 28, 2005, at 12 p.m. with the Rev. Darrell Davis officiating.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Monday.

Chafin Funeral Home of Delbarton is in charge of the arrangements.

Jack Jude Sr.

Jack Jude Sr., 67, of Justice, W. Va., passed away Saturday, February 5, 2005, at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

Born April 6, 1937, in Gilbert, W. Va., to the late John Sr. and Minta Simpson Jude, he was a retired coal miner and a veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, William P. Birchfield; two brothers, Roy Carlos Jude Sr. and John Jude Jr.; and one sister, Beulah Jude.

Surviving are his wife of 42 loving years, Norma "Bo" Jude of Justice, W. Va.; two daughters, Jeanette DeLong of Williamson, W. Va. and Tammy Birchfield of Madison, W. Va.; one son, Jack Jr. and wife (Jean) Jude of Justice, W. Va.; one grandson, Matthew Jude; four granddaughters, Stephanie DeLong, Cami Birchfield, Jaime Birchfield and Alyssa Jude; five brothers, Rex Jude of Parkersburg, W. Va., Sonny Jude of Justice, W. Va., Denny Jude of Gilbert, W. Va., Dexter Jude of Hanover, W. Va. and Jesse Jude of Wilkinson, W. Va.; and three sisters, Martha Adkins of Gilbert, W. Va., Naomi Harrison of Justice, W. Va. and Judy Simpson of Justice, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2005, 12 noon, at Justice Freewill Baptist Church at Justice, W. Va. with Rev. Butch Cobb and Rev. Eddie Isom officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn cemetery, Pecks Mill, W. Va.

Friends may call the Justice Freewill Baptist Church at Justice Tuesday evening, February 8, 2005, after 6 p.m.

Roy Browning
Roy Browning, 56, of Wharncliffe, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

Born April 15, 1948, in Wharncliffe, W. Va., to the late John L. and Callie Cline Browning, he was a timberman (logging) cutter and of the Church of God faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold Browning, Carl Browning and Kenneth Browning; and two sisters, Linda Browning and Ada Betty Browning.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Joyce Gibson Browning of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; one daughter, Ann (Kevin) Goad of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; two sons, Roy Jr. "Cookie" (Misti) Browning of Matewan, W. Va. and Carl "Bo" Browning of the home; two granddaughters, Kayla Goad of Wharncliffe, W. Va. and Destiny Paige Browning of Matewan, W. Va.; one brother, Roger Browning of Tennessee; five sisters, Adell "Bit" Simpson of Gilbert, W. Va., Idell Stanley of Wharncliffe, W. Va., Sadie Hatfield of Wharncliffe, W. Va., Rose Ann Browning of Varney, W. Va. and Mary Lou Smith of Wharncliffe, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, 2005, 1 p.m., at Wharncliffe Church of God with Rev. Eddie Compton and Rev. Danny Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Freelin Gibson Family cemetery, Glen Alum, Wharncliffe, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers.

Friends called Thursday evening at the Wharncliffe Church of God from 6 - 9 p.m.

Sandra Toley-Dempsey
Sandra Jean Toley-Dempsey, 61, of Logan, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at her residence.

She was born June 3, 1943 in Logan County, W. Va. to the late Ruby C. Hubbard Toley Bailey and Jack L. Toley.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, 2005, 7 p.m. at Sandlick Freewill Baptist Church, Bruno, W. Va. with Rev. Ronald McCoy and Rev. Steve McCoy officiating. Burial will be at the Browning-Grimmett cemetery at a later date.

Gladys Leshore-Harris
Gladys Leshore-Harris, 82, of Williamson went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 14, 2005, in Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born March 3, 1922, in Bankhead, Ala., she was a daughter of the late James and Charlotte Leshore.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Harvey Harris; son Jerome Cade, and sister, Grace Reed, all of Williamson.

Gladys was a retired school teacher. Her professional career, a labor of love, covered four decades of public service in the Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia educational systems. She was a faithful member and pianist of Christ Temple Church.

Her survivors include her son, Bruce (Linda) Branch of Yokota, Japan; grandson, Craig (Kellie) Warren of Williamson, W. Va.; granddaughters, Jacqueline (Clifton) Alexander of Fayetteville, N.C., and Dawn (Rick) Richardson of Mountain Home, Idaho; four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters; brother, Lether Leshore of Akron, Ohio; sister, Jean (Melvin) Magwood of Cleveland, Ohio; nephews, Ronnie (Renee) Washington and Chester High, both of Cleveland, Ohio; and Arva (Ronald) Reynolds of Williamson, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Christ Temple Church, Williamson, with District Elder Thomas Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2005, at Christ Temple Church.

Funeral arrangments are under the direction of Preston Funeral Home of Charleston, W. Va.

Henry McCoy
Henry McCoy, 79, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Select Speciality Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

Born December 2, 1925, at Kermit, W. Va., to the late James and Grace Webb McCoy.

He was the retired owner and operator of Deacon Cleaners and attended the Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Tony Webb, Robert A. McCoy, and James Edward McCoy; sister, Leona Taylor; and wife, Nancy Lambert McCoy.

Survivors include one son, Michael McCoy of Ashland, Ky.; sister, Gladys Best of Phoenix, AZ; two grandchildren, Michael J. McCoy of Maine, Megan McCoy of Ashland, Ky.; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary with the Rev. George Terlizzi officiating.

Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va.

Serving as pallbearers will be men of the church.

Visitation will be held Monday evening, February 28, 2005, from 6-9 p.m. at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.
