Carolyn Smith
Carolyn Sue Smith, 62, of Columbus, Ohio, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, in HCR-Manor Care Facility in Westerville, Ohio.

She was born January 27, 1943, in West Virginia, to Mary Akers Brewer of Parkersville, W. Va., and the late Clyde Brown Sr.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include husband, Donald Ray Smith of Columbus, Ohio; son, Stephen Ray Smith of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Clyde Jr. (Ann) Brewer of Vienna, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2005, 1 p.m., at Lovely Freewill Baptist Church, with Lonnie Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, W. Va.

Visitation will be held from 4-11 p.m. at the Lovely Freewill Baptist Church on Monday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Lelia Small
Lelia Fay Small, 92, of Crum, W. Va., passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2005, in Martin County.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home Chapel, Inez, Ky.

Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial cemetery at South Point, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Crum Church of Christ.

Jimmie Johnson
Jimmie Johnson, 93, of Verdunville, died Friday, February 25, 2005, in St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, February 28, 2005, at the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville with Pastor Lonnie Gore Jr., the Rev. Mike Worf officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Honaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Logan.

Bobby Brown

Bobby Brown, 46, of Delbarton, W. Va., passed away Monday, February 7, 2005, at his home.

He was born August 13, 1958 in South Williamson, Ky., the son of Patsy Adkins. He was preceded in death by his stepfather George R. Adkins; his grandparents who raised him, Clifton and Rose Arwood Brown; and a brother, George R. Adkins II.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a step-brother, Charlie Adkins of Matewan, W. Va.; step-sister, Minerva Jo Moore of Ashland, Ky.; sister, Teresa Fessenden of Penhook, Va.; and a niece, Coleen Powers, also of Penhook, Va.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Thursday afternoon, February 10, 2005, at 1 p.m., with Bro. Neal Robinson and Rev. Bill Snodgrass officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferrell cemetery at Delbarton, W. Va.

Visitation will be at the Chafin Funeral Home from 6 - 9 p.m. Wednesday evening. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton, W. Va.

Wallace Farley, Sr.

Wallace Williamson Farley, Sr., 85, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Sunday, February 6, 2005, at Lexington Medical Center, Lexington, S.C.

He was born July 28, 1919, in Williamson, W. Va., to the late W. Howard Farley and Minnie Lee Deskins Farley. Wallace was born and reared in Williamson and was a 1937 graduate of Williamson High School where he was a charter member of the WHS Yahoo Club. He served in the United States Navy from 1941 until 1945 and was discharged with the rank of Storekeeper First Class. During his service, he was stationed aboard the USS Biscaine, USS Corvus and served in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean regions and was involved in the Invasions of Tunisia, Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Okinawa.

After the war, he returned to Williamson where he accepted employment with Williamson Supply Company.

After 27 years of service with Williamson Supply, he became employed with the Mingo County Board of Education, eventually retiring in 1981.

In earlier years, Wallace served on the Williamson City Council, representing West Williamson. Wallace was a member of First Baptist Church of Williamson and was actively involved in numerous ministries over the years.

He was presently an active member of the Board of Deacons. Wallace also presently served as a member of the Mingo County Circuit Court Condemnation Committee.

A noted Williamson historian, he was interviewed for a feature article in the 2002 Spring Edition of Golden Seal Magazine.

His photograph appeared on the cover of that edition, in which he spoke of the rich history of Williamson and the surrounding area.

Wallace was blessed to have enjoyed an active and full life.

He was an avid gardener in past years and loved the beauty of flowers. He was also an outstanding cook and continued to enjoy preparing favorite dishes for family and friends.

Wallace was a devoted and loving father to his sons Wally and Fred and spoke of them with great affection. He was also a proud grandfather of two, Joanna and Travis, whom he deeply loved and adored.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Viola Vass Farley who died on October 3, 1987; sister, Sara Southern; and brother, Bill Farley.

Surviving are his sons, Wallace W. Farley, Jr. and his wife, JoAnne of White House Station, N.J. and Fred Farley and his wife, Rita, of Lexington, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Joanna Farley of White House Station, N.J. and Travis Farley, 82nd Airborne, Iraq. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2005, 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Williamson, with Rev. Roger Tinnel officiating.

Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery, West Williamson, W. Va.

Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Williamson will serve as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Joel Anderson, Jack Blackburn, Lucian Brown, James "Tub" Farley, Woody Lovell, Melvin McCoy and Wallace Weddington.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, February 10, 2005, 6 - 9 p.m., at the mortuary.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson, W. Va.

Robert Parsley

Robert Lee Parsley, 60, of Lenore, W. Va., passed away Monday, February 7, 2005, at his residence, in the presence and comfort of his beloved family.

Born May 19, 1944, in Parsley, W. Va., to the late Raymond Parsley and Bessie Linley Parsley, he was a self-employed contractor.

Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather. After becoming a Christian in 1973, he dedicated his life to serving the Lord and his church.

He was a deeply devoted and dedicated member of the Laurel Creek Freewill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.

He was a helper to many in need and loved serving others.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Anna Shirlene Evans Parsley; son, Jerry Allen (Linda) Parsley of Lenore, W. Va.; daughters, Roberts Ann (Frank) Evans of Trace Creek, W. Va. and Patricia Dawn (Sean) Adams of Blackberry, Ky.; brothers, Howard (Shirl) Parsley of Canal Winchester, Ohio, William (Kathy) Parsley of Petersburg, Va., James (Frances) Parsley of Webbville, Ky. and Earl (Debbie) White of Nolan, W. Va.; sisters, Barbara (Joe) Dentro of Laurel Creek, W. Va., Carol (Irvin) Hensley of Borderland, W. Va., Mary (Tom) Mann of Louisa, Ky. and Norma (Mitchell) Elkins of Morristown, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Robert Franklin Evans, Joshua Earl Evans, Jerry Allen Parsley, Jr., and Jonathan Lee Parsley. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and his church family, all of whom loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 10, 2005, 12 noon, at Laurel Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Gene Goodman officiating.

Burial will follow at the Parsley-White cemetery at Benny Knob of Laurel Creek. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2005, 6 - 9 p.m., at the mortuary with special services at 7 p.m.

The family wishes to thank Dignity Hospice for their dedication and outstanding care.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson, W. Va.

Jack Stewart
Jack Carl Stewart, 77, of Matewan, W. Va., passed away Friday, February 18, 2005, at South Williamson Appalachian Regional Healthcare.

Born November 22, 1927, in Borderland, W. Va., to the late George W. Stewart and Alma Gamble Stewart, he was member of the United Methodist Church of Matewan for over 50 years. He worked for B&C Oil Company and the Sprouse Creek Processing Company for 18 years. He served in the U.S. Navy having participated in the Bikini Atomic Bomb Experiment in 1946.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, William Stewart; a sister, Cora Hatfield; and a great grandson, Tyler Matthew Williams.

Surviving are his wife of over 54 years, Joan Simpkins Stewart of Matewan, W. Va.; son, Gregory (Opal) Stewart of Matewan, W. Va.; three grandchildren, Jack Tyler Stewart, Lisa Jodale (P.J.) Scott and Charlotte Lynn (Jason) Williams; and three great grandchildren, Morgan Linville, Grace Leighann Williams and Amber Dawn Scott.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2005, 11 a.m., at Chambers Funeral Services' Chapel with Rev. Hal Hevener officiating. Burial will follow at Family cemetery at Blackberry City, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin Sunday, February 20, 2005, from 6 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Methodist Church of Matewan, W. Va. memorial fund or the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chambers Funeral Services Inc. of Matewan, W. Va.

Willia York
Willia York, age 87, passed away Friday February 18, 2005 in Columbus, Ohio. Born November 15, 1917 in Lenore, W. Va., she attended Fellowship Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mose York.

Surviving are her children, Jearline Farley, Jack York, Mose York Jr., and Janet Colburn; sisters, Sarah V. Hall, Mary B. Smith, and Lillie Nunn. "Grandma" York also had nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Friends may call Sunday 1-6 p.m. and Monday 1 hour prior to service at Evans Funeral Home, 4171 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, OH 43227 where service will be Monda, February 21, 2005, 11 a.m. with Dr. William Dinoff officiating. Interment will be at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens, Canal Winchester, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Teen Mission Trip to Brazil.

Gladys Hatfield
Gladys Hatfield, 90, of Hampden, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Born May 10, 1914, in Sarah Ann, W. Va., to the late Stewart and Belle Ferrell Brewster, she was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Alex Hatfield; one daughter, Melinda Sue Hatfield; one son, Kenneth Dayton Hatfield; six brothers, Foye Brewster, Mason Brewster, Jack Bragg, Joe Bragg, Sherman Bragg and Andy Bragg; four sister, Lucy Osborne, Millie Brewster, Vonnie Kennedy and Columbia Keagley; and an infant sister, Bernice Brewster.

Surviving are her two daughters, Geraldine (Michael) Smith of Cyclone, W. Va. and Eunice (Don) Stanley of Hampden, W. Va.; one son, Joe Alex "Mike" (Rachel) Hatfield Jr. of Bolt, W. Va.; seven grandchildren, Rick Smith, Dawn Marie Royer, Tina Maria Stanley, Bradley Hatfield, Todd Hatfield, Elizabeth Walker and Hollee Griffith; seven great grandchildren, Bethany Smith, Broc Smith, Hanna Hatfield, Conner Walker, Brooke Griffith, Justin Butterworth and Michael Royer; and two sisters, Gay Cook of St. Albans, W. Va. and Zanna Gilliam of North Manchester, Ind.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2005, 1 p.m., at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, W. Va., with Rev. Jonas Trent officiating. Burial will follow at Hatfield cemetery, Sharon Heights (Hampden), W. Va.

Serving as pallbearers are Larry Adkins, Brian Dowdy, Ray Carter, Okey Hatfield, Donald Hatfield and Sam Hatfield. Honorary pallbearers are J.B. Hatfield, Jerry Grimmett and Eddie Grimmett.

Friends may call the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert Thursday evening, February 10, 2005, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Candace Ashley Cochran
Candace Ashley Cochran, 17, of Brenton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at her residence. Born August 24, 1985, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of Debra Cochran Schollar of Brenton.

Candace was a 2003 Westside High School graduate and was a member of the New Life Community Church, Lynco. She loved computers and talking on the phone.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Willis Cochran Sr.; and step-grandfather, Charles William Schollar.In addition to her mother, survivors include her grandmother, Polly Cochran of the home; her stepfather, Charlie Schollar of Camp Creek; two brothers, Jeremiah "J.W." Schollar of the home and Charles William Schollar III of North Carolina; a sister, Amy Elizabeth Schollar of the home; her step-grandmother, Margaret Schollar of Parkersburg; three uncles, Everett Cochran and his wife, Patricia of Brenton; John Cochran and his wife, Kathy, of Brenton; Willis Cochran Jr., and his wife Mable, of Brenton; three aunts, Linda Evans and her husband, Tom of Kopperston; Ruth Maynor and her husband, Steve, of Brenton; Kathy Lefler and her husband, Robert, of Slab Fork.

Cousins, Michelle Cisco, Angela Grinsell, Dr. Carmella Evans-Molina, Michael Cochran, Cherie Morgan, Amanda Cochran, Steven "Eddie" Maynor, Heather Maynor, LeeAnn Maynor, Kimberly Taylor, Nichole Bradford, Willis Cochran III, Daniel Cochran, Kayla Cisco, Amanda Cisco, Rebecca Grinsell, Thomas Grinsell, Brandon Cochran, Justin Cochran, Britney Cochran, Joshua Morgan, Abigail Morgan, Austin Taylor, Mackenzie Taylor, Blake Parton, Victoria Maynor and Olivia Maynor.Services were held Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at the New Life Community Church, Lynco with the Rev. Tommy Knotts and Jay Morgan officiating. Burial followed in the Cochran Family cemetery, Indian Creek. Pallbearers were Eddie Maynor, Mike Cochran, Daniel Cochran, Willis Cochran III, David Thompson, Matt Acord, Josh Morgan, Brandon Ratliff, Ryan Blankenship, Ralph Breeding and Chris Stafford.

Vada L. Price Davis, 74, of Beaver, died Aug. 4, 2003, while in a Charleston area hospital following a long illness. Born March 8, 1929, at Matheny, she was the daughter of the late Rufus and Lou Vada Stewart Bailey.

Don Spears
Don Spears, 69, of Mullensville, died Tuesday Aug. 5, 2003, at his residence. Born March 17, 1934, at Harley, Ky., he was the son of the late Virgil and Hannah Spears.

Elizabeth 'Elig' Noe
Elizabeth "Elig" Noe, 57, of Gilbert, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2003, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born September 14, 1945 at Pageton, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Nancy Emily Mills Sims.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 11, 2003 at 1 p.m. from Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. John Thompson and Allen Blankenship officiating.

Burial followed in the Sims Family cemetery at Bruno.
