Gertrude Beatrice Lester
Funeral services for Gertrude Beatrice Lester, 79, of Brenton, passed away Friday, August 8, 2003 in Welch Community Hospital.

Born October 7, 1923, in Blackey, Va., she was the daughter of the late Noah and Pearl Klug Blankenship.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home with Brother Butch White officiating.

Burial will follow in the Paris Lester cemetery, Ikes Fork, W. Va.

Crystal Canada
Crystal Canada, 9, of Saulsville, died Friday, August 8, 2003, at her residence following a long illness.

Born June 20, 1994 she was the daughter of Mackie and Sheila Derringer Canada of Saulsville.

Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2003 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with the Rev. Larry England officiating.

Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Services, Pineville.

Thelma F. Epperhart
Funeral services for Thelma Faye Epperhart, 80, of Fanrock, were conducted Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Brenton Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Knotts officiating. Burial followed in the Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.

William Hensley
William Russell Hensley, 42, of Chapmanville, W. Va. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Logan Regional Medical Center.

He was born October 18, 1962 at Sandusky, Ohio and was the precious son of Lottie Marie Farley and stepson of James T. Farley of Chapmanville.

William was preceded in death by his father, William Clayburn Hensley.

He was a member of the Greater Life Pentecostal Church at Stollings, W. Va., a graduate of Chapmanville High School, Southern WV Community and Technical College and WV State College. He was also employed with the U.S. Postal Service at Charleston.

In addition to his mother and stepfather, those who cherish his memory are his four sisters and their husbands, Janet and George Hardwick of Aberdeen, Md., Bernice Ellerman of Landisburg, Pa., June and John Peck of Delbarton, W. Va., Carol and Davy Dingess of Chapmanville; four brothers and their wives, Harold Hensley of New York, Ted and Tammy Hensley of Chapmanville, Fred and Sherry Hensley of Maryland and James and Kelly Farley of Chapmanville. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. William will be sadly missed by his family, friends and many loved ones.

Services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 12 noon at the Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor A.G. Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in the Farley-Hensley cemetery at West Fork of Harts.

Friends may call on Tuesday, September 20, from 6 - 10 p.m. at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Freeman Funeral Home at Chapmanville is in charge of the arrangements.

Eliott Goad
Eliott Drake Goad, our precious little boy went home to be with the Lord Saturday, September 17, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W. Va. He weighed 7 lbs.. He is the son of Wally and Machella McClure Goad of Huntington, W. Va.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Donnie and Amber McClure of Princeton, W. Va.; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Sheila Goad of Meador, W. Va.; maternal uncle, Donnie McClure Jr. of Princeton, W. Va.; paternal uncle and aunt, Jody and Kim Goad of Hurricane, W. Va.; and cousins, Autumn, Nick and Abby Goad of Hurricane, W. Va.. Also surviving are Granna Carol and Uncle Bruce of Meador, W. Va. and a host of other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 2 p.m., with Evangelist Bruce Murphy officiating. Interment will be at the Goad cemetery at Beech Creek, W. Va.

Stephen Fitchpatrick
Stephen Fitchpatrick, 49, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2005. He was the son of Willis and Maglene Fitchpatrick.

He is survived by his wife Ann; daughters, Ginny (Chris) Newsome and Rachel (Matthew) Dean; sons, Ryan (Michelle) and James; grandsons, Cameron and Hunter Newsome; and parents, Willis and Maglene Fitchpatrick; three brothers; three sisters; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call Thursday evening from 5 - 9 p.m. at the Novak Funeral Home, 4476 N. High St. (two blocks north of Henderson Rd.), Columbus, Ohio, 614-268-8811, and Friday after 5 p.m. at the Neeley Branch Baptist Church, Kermit, W. Va. His funeral will be at the church on Saturday at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Newsome Ridge cemetery.

Hazel Thompson
Hazel C. Thompson, 82, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Born May 16, 1923, in Worley, Ky., to the late Albert Reed and Sara Ellen Byrge Reed, she was retired from C&P Telephone Company where she worked as a chief operator. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Williamson.

She was a former volunteer with Bristol Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America (West Virginia Branch).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Thompson; three brothers; and two sisters.

Surviving are her brothers, Charlie B. Reed of Forest Hills, Ky., Hurstle Reed of Aflex, Ky., Jasper Cleo Reed of Williamson, W. Va.; and sister, Delores Mounts of Williamson, who was a loving caregiver to her sister. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2005, 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary Chapel with Pastor James Justice and Rev. Roger Tinnel officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Ky. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 2, 2005, 6 - 9 p.m. at the mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Williamson, 5th Ave. & Harvey St., Williamson, WV 25661.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson.

Glen Fullen
Glen "Buzzy" Fullen, of Matewan, died Friday, April 8, 2005 at Williamson Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Chambers Funeral Services of Matewan.

Howard Blankenship
Howard Blankenship, 70, died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Kobacker House.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was retired from Buckeye Stell.

Mr. Blankenship was a member of AMVETS 1312 and VFW 3424 and Groveport Masonic Lodge 240.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jettie Blankenship and brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his daughters, Diana Blankenship and Pamela (Tim) Benge; grandson, Nicolas Owens; sister, Gladys Lambert of McCarr, Ky.; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at O. R. Woodyard Co. Chapel, 1346 S. High St., Columbus Ohio, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday where the funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. Rev. Harold Dotson will officiate. Interment will follow at Obetz cemetery.

Funeral arrangements under the direction of O.R. Woodyard Company, Columbus, Ohio.

Lilly Mae Tackett
Mrs. Lilly Mae Mullins Tackett, 85, of Dingess, W. Va., was born September 23, 1919 at Logan, W. Va., a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Mullins. She departed this life on Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the South Williamson ARH-Skilled Nursing Facility in South Williamson, Ky.

Mrs. Tackett was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Tackett; one son, Donald Tackett Jr.; three brothers; and three sisters.

Surviving are one son, Michael (Brenda Sue) Tackett of Prichard, W. Va.; two daughters, Mary Ann (Larry) May and Earsie Tackett both of Dingess, W. Va.; three brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; and her extended family at ARH-Skilled Nursing Facility and two special friends, Phyllis and Wanda.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Evans Funeral Home at Chapmanville with the Rev. Joe Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, W. Va.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Larry R. May, Thomas Jason May, Michael May, David Dean, Luke Music and Randy Lackey.

Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. Saturday at Evans Funeral Home at Chapmanville, W. Va.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Evans Funeral Home, Chapmanville, W. Va.

Rush W. Runyon
Rush Willard Runyon, 58, of Delbarton, W.Va, passed away January 28, 2005 in the Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, W. Va.

He was born November 25, 1946 in Delbarton, W. Va.., the son of the late Elzie and Emma Baisden Runyon. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Viola Sexton.

His survivors include his wife, Stella Runyon; sons, Rush Eugene, Noah, Michael, Rush Willard Jr. and Daryl Runyon; daughters, Linda Coleman and Willa Maynard; brothers, John Runyon of Ragland, W. Va.; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Church of God in Jesus Name at Rawl, W. Va., Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Stafford cemetery at Delbarton, W. Va.

Visitation will be at the church Monday evening after 4:00 p.m.

Chafin Funeral Home of Delbarton is in charge of arrangements.

John Hammond
John Hammond, 84, of Varney, W. Va., passed away Saturday, Oct 9, 2004, at Williamson Memorial Hospital, Williamson, W. Va.

Mr. Hammond was born April 21, 1920, at Red Jacket, W. Va. He was a son of the late Frank and Bertha Williams Hammond.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Lisa Hammond; four brothers, Glenn, Tom Boots, Wallace and Fred Hammond and a sister, Nell Baisden.

He was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA, having worked for more than 30 years in the coal mines. He was also a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army having served in World War II and attended the Gospel House of Taylorville, W. Va.

Survivors include: His wife, Mildred Hammond; two sons, Larry (Gloria) Hammond of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Randall (Sylvia) Hammond of Sheffield, Ala.; three daughters, Dian Hammond and Sandra Ingram, both of Camden, Tenn.; Della (Tommy) Casey of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Frank (June) Hammond of South Williamson, Ky.; and Dan (Frankie) Hammond of Delbarton, W. Va.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton, W. Va., with brothers Willard and Nathaniel Gibson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Webb cemetery at Airport Bottom, Delbarton, W. Va.

Pallbearers will be Steve and Jeremiah Sammons, Robert Anderson, Mike Hammond, Burgess Dalton and Anse Belcher.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, with special services at 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chafin Funeral Home, Delbarton, W. Va.

Marietta Spaulding
Marietta Lowe Spaulding, 78, of Jennies Creek, W. Va., died Sunday Oct. 10, 2004, at her residence.

Born June 12, 1926, in Wayne County, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late John H. and Jenny Messer Lowe.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spaulding was preceded in death by a brother, Garrett Lowe and two sisters, Ova Lowe Salmons and Loda Lowe Muncy.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Christ.

Survivors include: Jesse Spaulding of Wayne County, W. Va.; five sons, Ronald (Novella) Spaulding, Garrett (June) Spaulding and Wynn D. Spaulding, all of Wayne County, W. Va.; and Tennis Spaulding and Jimmy (Alice) Spaulding, both of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Jenny (Don) Spaulding Jude of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Edna Lowe Dillon of Wayne County, W. Va.; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two on the way.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday. Oct. 13, 2004, at the Walnut Grove Church of Christ with Wayne Justice officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lowe cemetery at Jennies Creek, W. Va.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at the Warfield, Ky., chapel of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home and after 6 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Harold May
Harold D. May, 71, of Matewan passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the Skilled Nursing Facility of the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

He was born on Oct. 31, 1932, the son of the late Jerry and Jean Elizabeth Gooslin May. He was a retired factory worker for General Motors and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Gooslin May.

He is survived by Betty May; sons, Harold (Trish) May Jr., Jerry (Donna) May, Brian (Anita) May and David (Stacy) May; daughters, Sherry (Mitchell) Coleman, Pam (Robert) Alley, Linda (Todd) Stanley, Rhonda (Sidney) Norman, LaSondra (Roger) Staten, Debbie Lewis and Gwen Mayhorn; sisters, Carroll (Don) Horton and Retta Sue Pitre; brother, Charles May; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 3, 2004, at the Pentecostal Tabernacle in Jesus' Name in Edgarton with Pastor Ronnie Wolfor and Brother Johnny Gooslin officiating. Burial will follow in the Andersons Hatfield cemetery at McCarr, Ky. Military rites will be performed by the DAV Chapter 141, Belfry, Ky.

Visitation will begin Thursday, April 1, at the church with services nightly at 7 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the West Funeral Home of Justiceville, Ky.
