Ruth Hatfield Picchione, 71, of Gilbert, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.

She was born December 17, 1932, in Hanover, W. Va., to Hallie Davis Hatfield of Mallory, W. Va. and the late Clifford Hatfield.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, 2004, 1 p.m., at Verner Community church with Brother Earl Lester officiating. Burial will follow at the Browning and Davis cemetery, Verner, W. Va.

Friends may call Verner Community Church on Friday, April 2, 2004, from 6 - 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Dalton Gibson
Dalton Cole Gibson, 5 days old, of Dayton, Va., passed away at his resident in Dayton, Va.

He was born March 23, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va. to Rodney Lee Gibson II of Buffalo Creek, W. Va. and De-brajean Church of Man, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held at Robinette Church of God, Friday, April 2, 2004, 1 p.m., with Rev. Michael Vannater officiating. Burial will follow at the Osborne cemetery, Buffalo Creek, Man, W. Va.

Friends may call Robinette Church of God on Thursday April 1, 2004 from 6 - 9 p.m.

Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert, W. Va. is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Johnson
Betty Hatfield Johnson, 79, of Grafton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at a nursing home.

Born February 24, 1925, in Mingo County, W. Va., to the late Henry D. and Mary Pearl Browning Hatfield, she was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Riley Johnson, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are her son, Donald L. Johnson of Grafton, Ohio; daughter, Linda Lazar of Wayne, W. Va.; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Donald S. Hatfield of Texas; and two sisters, Ethel Sewell of Georgia and Agatha Hatfield of Georgia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, 2004, 12 noon, at Dunlow Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Joe White officiating. Burial will follow at the Johnson Marcum cemetery, Crum, W. Va.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. at the Dunlow Freewill Baptist Church on Friday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Florence Robinette

Florence Ferrell Robinette, 89, a resident of Justice, W. Va., and a former resident of Stopover, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center at Phelps, Ky.

She was born July 9, 1914 in Majestic, Ky., daughter of the late Larkin and Dolly Steele Ferrell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ for 56 years.

Services were held at R.S. Jones and Son Funeral Home with Carl Fuller and Mr. Hall officiating.

Andy Ball Jr.

Andy Ball, Jr., age 67, of 578 Lexington-Ontario Road, Mansfield, Ohio, died Friday afternoon, October 3, 2003, at home following an extended illness.

Mr. Ball was born June 21, 1936 in Wayne County, W. Va., living in the Mansfield area since 1956.

He retired from Shaffer Valve in 1978. Mr. Ball was an active member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, NRA and an avid coon hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruby P. (Boyd) Ball of Mansfield; a daughter, Deborah Eckenfels of Mansfield; four sons and daughters-in-law, Andy K. and Cheryl Ball of Mansfield, Robert Ball of Mansfield, Benjamin and Rachel Ball of Mansfield and Donald Ball of Bellville, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren and their spouses, Andy K. Jr. and Mary, Jason, Michael, Mark, Donald Jr., Holly, Heather, James, Ryan, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Erin, Mason Ball, John Allen III, Jennifer and Cory Walker and Justin Miller; two great grandchildren, Jeremiah Kurtz and Ruby Jean Walker; three sisters, Arva Collins of Mansfield, Esther Mahon of Williamson and Ida Lou Sorrell, of Williamson, W. Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents, Andy Ball Sr. and Ruby Blanche (Perry); a brother, Ballard Ball; a sister, Letha Farley; and four nieces and nephews preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Monday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Mansfield Baptist Temple conducted by Rev. Dale Adkins. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Mansfield Baptist Temple or in care of the family.

Myrtle Hatfield

Myrtle Ferrell Hatfield, of Matewan, W. Va. passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003, in Tavares, Fla.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Chambers Funeral Services, Inc., of Matewan.

Clyde Dotson

Clyde Dotson, of Kermit, W. Va., passed away at Williamson Memorial Hospital, Williamson, W. Va.

He was the son of the late Wheeler and Louise McCoy Dotson in Phelps, Ky. He was retired and a veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Dotson of the home; sons, Timothy Dotson of New Jersey and Lundy Fields of Tennessee; daughter, Angelina Christine of Kermit, W. Va.; special best friend, Charley Canterbury; brothers, Troy Dotson of Phelps, Ky., Lonnie Dotson of Clay City, Ky., Clarence Dotson of Illinois, Herman Dotson of Wisconsin and Jim Dotson or Illinois; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2003, 1 p.m. at Warfield Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the family cemetery in Dingess, W. Va.

Visitation will be held beginning at noon for the family and at 6 p.m. for friends.

Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Perry

Ruth Perry, 78, of Taylorville, W. Va., loving mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord Sunday, October 5, 2003, at the Appalachian Regional Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born September 19, 1925, in Wayne Co., W. Va., to the late Lawrence and Vertie Justice Hollandsworth, she was a former sales clerk for more than 17 years at Taylor's Jewelry. She was also a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star Elizabeth Chapter #37 of Williamson, W. Va. She was a member of the White Shrine. She was a Christian of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ance Perry; a son, James L. (Jimbo) Perry; three brothers, Charlie and Dewey Hollandsworth and Burbage Curry; and two sisters, Pearl Farley and Pale Hollandsworth Reid.

Mrs. Perry is survived by a son, Charles Ance Perry and wife Kay of Huntington, W. Va.; three daughters, Polly and husband Richard Blackburn of Lexington, Ky., Violet and husband James Canterbury of Lenore, W. Va. and Alverda Perry of Lenore, W. Va.; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2003, with the Rev. Lewis Hall Jr. officiating at 11 a.m. at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Saul-Copley cemetery at Wayne, W. Va.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 - 9 p.m. with special services at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Blackburn, James Orville Marcum, Scott Perry, Shane Perry, Melvin Canterbury and James Welby Perry.

Chafin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Howard Spence

Howard Cecil "Hunkie" Spence, 77, of Conley Hollow, Delbarton, W. Va., completed his earthly journey early Sunday morning, October 5, 2003, in the St. Marys Medical Center in Huntington, W. Va.

His earthly journey began October 16, 1925 at Below, W. Va., the second son of the late Okey Ray and Audra Grace Davis Spence.

He is a 47 year veteran of the coal industry, retiring in 1992. Of his many talents, we the family are most proud of his service to God as a faithful member of the Caney Church of Christ where he served as a teacher of the teenage and adult Bible classes. He was eager to share the gospel of Christ, leaving his footprints on the hearts of many people.

His wife Ruth, a faithful companion of 58 years, bravely stood by his bed until his last breath. They were married April 30, 1945, at Little Dove by Minister Jeff Chafin.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis Jackson, Earl Charles and Donald Wade Spence.

He is survived by two sisters, Cleo Wiant and Wealthy Dillon of Ohio; his brothers, Willis Spence of Delbarton, W. Va., Danny Ray, Robert Joe, Mayo and Elmer Spence, all of Ohio; his son, Jack (Penni) who resides in Dayton, Ohio, and is the father of Jacqueline and Timothy Howard; his daughter, Donna (John) Edwards who resides in Greenville, NC, and her children, Caryn Edwards Reagan and John Christopher Edwards. He leaves behind seven grandchildren as well as a large extended family and many friends whose lives were touched by his life.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 - 9 p.m. October 7, 2003, at the Chafin Funeral Home with special services starting at 7 p.m.

Mr. Spence believed that a person preaches his own funeral by the life he lived daily. Because of that, there will be a private family burial Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at the Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va.

His nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mose Wright

Mose Allen Wright, 26, of Accoville, W. Va., passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003, at his residence in Accoville, W. Va.

He was born August 29, 1977, in Man, W. Va., to Mose and Betty Workman Wright of Man, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2003, 1 p.m., at Hunt Freewill Baptist Church, Greenville, W. Va. with Rev. Cecil Bartram and Rev. Baxter Toler officiating. Burial will follow at the Maynard and Spaulding cemetery, Madison Creek Hollow, Rita, W. Va.

Friends may call the Hunt Freewill Baptist Church at Greenville, W. Va. Wednesday evening after 6 p.m.

Elizabeth Noe

Elizabeth "Eliz" Noe, age 57, of Gilbert, died Thursday, Aug. 7th, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

A homemaker, she was born Sept. 14, 1945, at Pageton, McDowell County, a daughter of the late Martin and Nancy Emily Mills Sims.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar "Buddy" Noe, Jr.; one brother, Robert "Bob" Sims; and one sister, Ethel Joyce Noel.

She was a member of the Gilbert Creek Southern Baptist Church at Baisden.

Survivors include one son, Carl Honaker and wife, Pam, of Oceana; two brothers, Jesse Paul Sims of Glendale, Ariz., and Donnie Edward Sims of Baisden; one sister, Helen Josephine Abbey of Rose City, Mich.; one special cousin, Eugene Mills of Litwar; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert with the Rev. John Thompson and the Rev. Allen Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Sims Family cemetery at Bruno.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Ferguson

John Louis Ferguson Sr., 61, passed away in Northern Southwest Hospital in Louisville, Ky., with family and friends by his side at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.

He was a native of Williamson, W. Va., born on Sept. 25, 1942. He is preceded in death by parents Beulah York New and Tommy Ferguson; brothers Author Hatfield and Darrell Ferguson.

Survivors include wife Aline Ferguson and ex-wife Dorothy McCoy; daughters Brenda Lee Ferguson-Sebastian and Michelle "Micki" Hiser; sons John Louis Ferguson Jr. (Lori) and Cecil Ferguson; stepdaughters Cathy Morin, Teresa Zabouli and Pam Francis; brothers Rich-ard Ferguson, Tommy Ferguson Jr., Douglas Eugene Ferguson, Jimmy Stamperd, and Donnie New; sisters Becky Maynard, Ethel Spradlin, Sharon Mullins, Sheila Elkins and Cathy Cau-dill; grandchildren Ma-rinda Ferguson, Hanna Ferguson, Russell Fer-guson, Megan Ann Ferguson, Cecil Fer-guson Jr., and Tabbie Hiser.

Funeral services were held at Owens Funeral Home in Louisville, Ky., at 1 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2003 with following burial in Bethany cemetery.

James Richmond
James Lewis Richmond, 88, of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Logan, W. Va., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Doctors Regional Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 31, 1914, to the late Grover and Dixie Richmond.

He is survived by his wife Ruby E. Richmond of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sons, James Richmond, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Bruce Richmond, of Martin, Va.; one daughter, Mary Ann Hervey of Corpus Christi, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec.5, 2002, at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, Ky. at noon. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky.

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 5, after 6 p.m.

Maxine Shields
Maxine Justice Shields of Norwalk, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus on August 4, 2002 at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, W. Va., after an extended illness.

Born at Van Lear, Ky., she was the daughter of John F. and Elizabeth Justice, who preceded her in death. Her husband James, brothers Donald, John Jr. and Jimmy Justice and sisters Marie Whitt and Joyce Ann Benjamin also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Howard of Norwalk, Ohio, and Paul (Berneice) of Punta Gordon, Fla.; one daughter, Christa (Thomas) Atkins of Williamson, W. Va.; one sister, Dorothy Marcum of Norwalk, Ohio; and one brother, Ola (Minnie) Justice of Elyria, Ohio.

She leaves behind 10 beloved grandchildren, Rebecca, Greg, Gordon, Gary, Randy, Rick and Rod Shields, Terri Horvatich, Craig and Kenneth Atkins. She also leaves 11 great grandchildren.

A native of Mingo County, Mrs. Shields worked for the Department of Human Resources, the Mingo County School System and Hobbs Department Store in Williamson, W. Va. After moving from Red Jacket, W. Va., to Norwalk, Ohio, she was employed at Woolworth's until retirement. For the last five years Mrs. Shields made her home at The Commons of Providence, Sandusky, Ohio.

She was also a member of North Matewan Church of God for many years and a charter member of Norwalk Church of God, where she served as church clerk and was involved in many other activities of the church. She was a member of the Maple City Garden Club of Norwalk. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, reading and making crafts.

Pastor W.H. Valentine of Wooster, Ohio, will be preaching her going home celebration at 1 p.m. Thursday Aug. 8, 2002 at the Evans and Groff Chapel. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Norwalk. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, W. Va., 25311 or American Cancer Society, would be appreciated.
