Layton Gibson, 63, of Wharncliffe, WV, departed this life on May 17, 2007, at his residence. Born, September 17, 1943, at Iaeger, he was the son of Freeland Gibson and the late Ruth Cantrell Gibson. Layton was a retired coal miner and of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathern Mounts Gibson; 1 daughter, Ruth Gibson; 1 sister, Norma Bussey of Centersville, GA; and 3 brothers: Willie, William, and Clark Gibson all of Wharncliffe.
Survivors include his father, Freeland Gibson, 1 sister, Joyce Browning of Wharncliffe; 4 brothers: Robert, Alfred and Carl Dean Gibson all of Wharncliffe, and John Gibson of Belphre, OH.
Friends called at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Church of God, Wharncliffe, on Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 20, 2007, at 1 pm at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Church of God with the Rev. Denny May and Rev. Danny Ward officiating. Burial followed at the Gibson cemetery at Glen Alum. Family and friends served as pallbearers.

John H. Hall of Verner, WV went home to be with Jesus on May 15, 2007 at Logan Regional Medical Center. John was born on June 2, 1931 in Dry Fork, VA. John was a soldier in Jesus Christ and dedicated his life to serving Him. His faith and love has touched many lives. He was the heart and soul of his family and will always be loved dearly. He is survived by the following family members: his wife, Mary Hall of Verner, WV, with whom he celebrated 41 years of marriage; two sons: Mike (Josie) Hall of Oswego, IL; Bobby (Tam) Rose of St. Paul, VA; four daughters: Debbie (Earl) Pertell and Kathy Clifford all of Greenville, MO, Linda (Mark) Harper and Alicia (John) Seay all of Verner; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Chasity Pertell (Joseph, Victoria and Nova), Jeanelle Pertell, Shawna Richardson (Kelsie, Indica and Ledgen), Nicole Clifford, Deborah Hall, Marie Hall, Alicia McCowan, Bobby Rose, Aaron Harper, and Jeana Harper; two brothers: Raymond Hall of Mosheim, TN, and Richard Hall of Bulls Gap, TN; three sisters: Mavis Brickey of Gary, Ella Davis of Wise, VA, and Bonnie Uhl of Fredericktown, MO. John had a host of nieces and nephews. John was greeted at the Heavenly gates by the following family members who have already embraced eternal life with Him: four children: Terri Jean (Hall) Patrick, Jonnie Fay and Shirley Mae Hall, Dana Jean Hall; his parents: Lilburn and Hallie Hall; and two sisters: Pauline Hall and Bertha Bevins.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert, WV on Friday, May 18, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services were on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 3:00 pm. Pallbearers will be: Timmy McCoy, Mike Hall, Earl Pertell, Robert Patrick, Verlin Harper and Billy Minton. Graveside services will follow at the Dye-Lester Family cemetery at Verner, WV.

Martie Ray Kennedy, 33, of Simon, departed this life May 10, 2007, at his residence.
Born, November 26, 1974, at Man, he was the son of Virgil & Redith (Walls) Kennedy of Simon. He was preceded in death by his Maternal Grandmother, Dotty Walls and Paternal Grandparents, Jason & Velva Kennedy.
Martie was of the Jesus Name faith, and a 1993 graduate of Baileysville High School and the Wyoming County Vocational School as an auto mechanic and was employed with Domino Printing & Advertising of Gilbert as an auto detailer.
In addition to his parents he is survived by one sister, Michelle (Pete) Welch of Logan; 3 brothers: Jody (Deborah) Kennedy of Simon, Jeremy (Tiffany) Kennedy of Ikes Fork, and Eric Shawn Kennedy of Simon; Maternal Grandfather, Dallas Walls of Tamcliffe; 2 nephews: Micky Endicott Jr. of Logan and Jody J. Kennedy Jr. of Simon; 2 nieces: Brieanna and Britney Welch of Logan; and a host of family and friends.
Friends called at the Upper Room Jesus Name Church at Simon, on Saturday & Sunday, May 12 & 13, 2007, after 6 pm. Funeral services were held at the Upper Room Jesus Name Church on Monday, May 14, 2007, at 1 pm with the Rev. William Cook, Rev. Bradley Kennedy, and the Rev. Jerry Thomas Cook officiating. Burial followed in the Kennedy Family cemetery, Long Branch section of Simon. Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Boyd Ward Elkins, 73, of Gilbert, the beloved husband of Audrey (Blankenship) Elkins, departed this life on Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Logan Regional Medical Center. Born, November 24, 1933, at Gilbert, he was the son of the late Johny & Verdie (Harrison) Elkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Elkins, Jr, and an infant sister.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Bill (Sharon) Elkins of Hanover; a granddaughter, Stacey Blankenship of Hampden; a great grandson, Ryan Blankenship of Hampden; one brother, Jimmy Elkins of Oceana; and two sisters: Macie Harless of Oceana and Mildred Glover of Grove Port, Ohio.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm. Graveside services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at the Hatfield cemetery, Sharon Heights, Hampden.

Franklin Nickolas Thomas, 71, of Coal Mountain, the beloved husband of Goldie (Steele) Thomas, departed this life on Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, VA, after a long illness.
Born, November 7, 1935, at Landville, he was the son of the late Nick and Mary Thomas.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Ivy Hoskins; 2 brothers, Steven and Harry Thomas; and a brother-in-law, Jay Walls.
Franklin was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and a Veteran of the US Navy, having served for 8 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Melissa Thomas of the home; a son, Frankie (Denisa) Thomas; a special grandson, Tanner; a step-grandson, Deric; and mother-in-law, Dessie Steele.
Additional survivors include, 3 sisters: Milka Walls of Brair Creek, Elosie (George) Smith of Texas, and Edith (Freddie) Wallace of Rockview; 2 brothers, Paul (Linda) Thomas of Coal Mountain, and George Thomas of Oceana; and a brother-in-law, Harry Hoskins.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 11, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services were held at 1 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 12, 2007 with the Rev. Glenn Hatfield and Rev. Timmy Walls officiating. Burial followed in the Community cemetery at Coal Mountain. Friends served as pallbearers.

Cecil Ward, 81, beloved husband of Mary L. (Smith) Ward, departed this life on Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY.
Born, February 12, 1926, at Mealey, KY, he was the son of the late Harmon "Hi" and Lora (Jennings) Ward.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 1 brother, Prentice Ward and 3 sisters: Lottie Ward Lyall, Georgia Ward Hileman, and Jenkie Ward Lester.
Cecil was a Sergeant in WWII, serving with the Army 161st Infantry, May 30, 1945, an a Veteran of Foreign Wars of the United States. He was of the Protestant Faith. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to fish, garden, and watch over the town of Gilbert from his gazebo at home.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his children: Ina Lynne Ward of Stockbridge, GA, and Michael A. (Mitzie) Ward of Chief Logan State Park; Grandchildren: Johnathan C. (Stacy) Ward of Jacksonville, NC, Mary Francis Gibson (Anthony) Cline of Dahlonega, GA, Shasta R., Celia K. and Anthony J. Ward of Chief Logan State Park; Great Grandchildren: Claudia Nicole, Stone, and Damien Lee Blasiol of Dahlonega, GA, Kayleigh Cline, and MJ (Mary Jane) Ward of Jacksonville, NC.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, May 10, 2007, from 6 to 9 PM with the Rev. Bill Cresong officiating. As per his request, he was cremated.

John "Johnny" Luther Bryant, 49, of Justice, departed this life on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at his residence. Born, May 5, 1958, at Welch, he was the son of the late, John Bryant and Goldie Baker Bryant Cline.
In addition to his father he is preceded in death by 1 son, Jonathan Bryant; 2 brothers: Edward & Bunyon Bryant; step-father, Alderson Cline and special nephew, Dewayne Blankenship.
John was of the Church of God faith and a disabled Business Owner.
Survivors include his mother, Goldie Baker Bryant Cline of Bramwell; his wife, Kimberly Standifur of Justice; 4 daughters: Brittany Bryant and fiancée` Barry Browning of Wharncliffe, April Blankenship of Thomasville, NC, Kassie Bryant of High Point, NC, Crystal Hance of Statesville, NC; step-daughter, Jenny Carbaugh of Columbia, TN; 3 grand children: Kylie Faith Bryant of Mohawk, Allison Balnkenship of Thomasville, NC, Elijah Hance and an expected grandson of Statesville, NC; and one step granddaughter, Hannah Brooke Maynard of Columbia, TN.
Additional survivors include 3 brothers: David (Vicky) Bryant and William (Wayma) Bryant of Roderfield, and McGee (Beverly) Bryant of Justice; 4 sisters: Eleanor (David) Chambers of Bramwell, Sina (Ray) Lowe of Woodlawn, VA, Ann Branham of Princeton and Barbara Roberts of Big Fork, Montana; special nephews: Greg Bryant, Michael Coleman, Larry Bryant and Rex Branham; special friend, Regina Wilson; and a host of family and friends.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel, Gilbert, on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, after 6 pm. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 11 am at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clifford Rawls, Rev. Carl Wolford and Rev. William Bryant officiating. Burial followed at the Iaeger Memorial cemetery at Roderfield. Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Delno T. Conn, 61, of Long Branch, Simon, WV, departed this life on Monday, April 30, 2007, at Ansted Center, Ansted, WV.
Born May 5, 1945, at Coal Mountain, he was the son of the late John & Elouise Kenneda Conn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 infant sister, Shelba Jean Conn; 1 sister, Elizabeth Conn Barnett; and 1 nephew, Brandon Conn.
Survivors include 1 son, Jonathan (Miranda) Conn; 1 grandson, Jayden Conn; 1 step-daughter, Glenna Blankenship; 1 step-son, Jessie Dunford and 5 step-grandchildren, all of Taylorsville, NC.
Additional survivors include, 2 brothers: Joseph (Hazel) Conn and Addlee (Mary) Conn all of Long Branch; 2 sisters: Eleanor (Burns) Osborne of Long Branch, and Texanna (Carlos) Bailey of Glen Fork; 11 nieces & nephews and 16 great nieces & nephews.
Friends called at the Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church after 6 pm on Wednesday, May 2, 2007. Funeral services were held at 1 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Long Branch Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in the Conn Family cemetery at Long Branch, Simon, WV.
Pallbearers were: Kendell, Bradley, & Richard Osborne, Jerry Dale & Kelly Conn, and Adam Toler.

MaKayla LeeAnna Meadows, one day old, of Hanover, WV, departed this life on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at CAMC, Women & Children's Hospital, Charleston.
Born, April 27, 2007, at CAMC, Women & Children's Hospital, she was the daughter of Tina Cline and Shawn Meadows.
Survivors include her parents; 1 sister, Amber Bradford and 1 brother, Anthony Cline both of Hanover; Maternal grandparents, Jessie & Ollie Cline of Hanover and Paternal grandparents, John Meadows and Sherry & Felix Steele of Iaeger.
Graveside services were held on Monday, May 7, 2007 at 2 pm at the Cline & Meadows cemetery at Hanover.

Dennie J. 'Jake' Hurley II, 20, went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2007, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
Born September 26, 1986, at Logan, he was the son of Dennie Sr. & Tammy Brown Hurley of Hanover.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alda & Esther Hurley of Simon; grandmother, Garnet Brown of Marion, OH, and Floyd McCoy of Beckley.
Dennie was a 2004 graduate of Westside High School, a member of the Coal Mountain Community Church, a member of the Hanover Fire Department and a police officer Gilbert Police Department.
In addition to his parents he is survived by 2 sisters: Marlena (Aaron) Blankenship of Marmet, and Jennifer Hurley of Cedar Creek; Aunts and Uncles: Luke & Lisa Whitaker of Marion, OH, James & Linda Bowers of Manassis, VA, Dennie & Brenda Cline of Simon, Berty West of Ikes Fork, Billy & Murlene Hatfield, Arland & Judy Toler and Billy Hurley all of Rockhouse, Bennie Hurley of Bull Creek, Elkar & Randy (Babe) Hurley of Simon, Arnold & Beatrice Toler of Man, Bobby & Joetta Hurley of Tennessee, Vencil & Drema Walls of Simon, Arnold & Betty Ann Hatfield of Gilbert, Misty & Dougie Lester of Hanover, Lewis & Martha Brown of Coal Mountain, Jim & Helen Morgan, Ken & Betty Morgan, and Dale & Barb Wells all of Marion, OH; his girlfriend, Laura Hatfield of Simon, several nephews, nieces and a host of friends. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Friends called at the Coal Mountain Community Church, Coal Mountain, WV, on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 after 4 pm. Full Fireman's Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at the Coal Mountain Community Church with the Rev. Andy Bo Kennedy and Rev. Benny Hurley officiating and singing by the Praise Team.
Pallbearers were members of the Hanover Fire Department and the Gilbert Police Department. Honorary pallbearers were: Bernie Harper, Tracey Cline, Shane Christian, and Ronnie Toler, Sr.
He was escorted to the Hurley cemetery, Long Branch, Simon, WV, by the Firefighters and Police Departments.
