Grant Butcher, 84, of Wharncliffe, departed this life on Friday, October 19, 2007, at his residence. Born on July 21, 1923, at Glen Alum, he was the son of the late Edward and Chloe (Kennedy) Butcher. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Mounts Butcher; his three sisters: Evelyn Rice, Dollie McClannahan and Tina Butcher; and one brother, Willard Butcher. He was a retired coal miner, a veteran of the US Navy, and of the Church of God faith.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Grant are his son, David Butcher of Skiatook, OK; and his two daughters: Debra (Ricky) Browning and Katrina York both of Wharncliffe; and a host of family and friends.
There were no visitation or funeral services.

Leona C. Ferguson, 86, of Wharncliffe, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2007, at her residence. Born on August 10, 1921 at Hampden, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Zura Harrison. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Garland Ferguson; four brothers: James, Raymond, Amick, and Edward Harrison; and one sister, Melda Harrison.
Leona was a homemaker and a member of the Wharncliffe Church of God.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Leona are her children: Dorise (Joyce) Ferguson of Delbarton, Charles (Virgie) Ferguson of North Carolina, Clearisa (Hubert) Trent of Hampden, and Jean (Gary) Copley of Wharncliffe; her brother, Robert (Ina) Adkins of Dayton, Ohio; her grandchildren: Stephanie (Carl) Crawford of California, Rex (Amy) Ferguson and Angel Ferguson of North Carolina, Anthony Ferguson and Sabrina (Christopher) Wiley of Princeton, Zachary (Tammy Doin) Trent of Gloster, VA, Angie (Darin) Browning and Joseph Copley of Wharncliffe and Crystal (Kirk) Jordan of Coal Mountain; her great grandchildren: Mathew Ellis, Krista (Aaron) Dotson, Vanessa Beckett, Khrista & Megan Wiley, and Blake Doin; her great great grandson, Adam Dotson; a special nephew, David Harrison; three special neighbors: Jonathan and Rita Cline and Audrey Daniels; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel at Gilbert, on Sunday, October 21, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 22, 2007, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Diamond Carter officiating. Burial followed in the Hatfield cemetery at Sharon Heights, Hampden. Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Preston Cooper Poe, our precious baby boy, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born on February 22, 2007, at Thomas Memorial Hospital, he was the son of Tara Poe and 'special daddy' Joshua Grimmett.
Preceding him in death were his maternal great grandparents, Elmer and Ollie Browning, paternal great grandpa, Verner Poe, and special aunts and uncles.
Those left to love and cherish the special memories of Preston are his mother, Tara Poe; his 'special daddy' Joshua Grimmett; his big brothers: Noah Seth, Ian Phillip, and Carson Alan Poe; his grandparents, Verner 'Butch' and Dorothy (Browning) Poe of Verner; his great grandmother, Beulah Poe of Gilbert; his special Granny, Brenda Poe of Gilbert; his uncle Seth (Kelly) Poe of Roanoke, VA; his aunt Stephanie (Adam) Thomas of Roanoke, VA; and his cousins - including Derreck and Haley Oliveira, Brady and McKenna Poe, Olivia and Mitchell Thomas, all of Roanoke, VA; and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Friends called at the Verner Community Church on Friday, October 19th from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Verner Community Church with the Rev. Walter Grimmett, Rev. Tilly Walls, and the Rev. Jackie Grimmett officiating. Burial followed in the Davis/Browning cemetery at Verner. Pallbearers were: Seth Poe, Butch Poe and Adam Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers were: Paul Schoolcraft, Eddie Jones, George and Benji Wheatley, and Jarrod Mitchell.

Sally Mae Jessie, 88, of Copper City Bottom, Oceana, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, WV.
Born on June 26, 1919 at Cleveland, VA, she was the daughter of the late Roby and Rebecca (Ward) Dotson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Woodrow Jessie; four children: Roger, George Ernest, Kenneth and Linda Gale Jessie; two brothers: Hiram and Roy Lee Dotson; and one sister, Leona Ellis.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Fundamental Christian Church at Varney.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Sally are her two sons: Edward Jessie of Oceana and Dennie Ray Jessie address unknown; her three daughters: Mary Jessie of Atlanta, Georgia, Geneva Jessie of Delbarton, and Denise Jessie address unknown; her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brother, Charlie Dotson and a host of family and friends.
Friends may call at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 6 to 10 pm with church services at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Proffitt and the Rev. Danny Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Dotson cemetery at Wharncliffe. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Lena Fay Browning, 70, of Justice, departed this life on Sunday, October 14, 2007, at her residence.
Born on January 23, 1937, at Hampden, she was the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Corda (Smith) Browning. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Vonnie Hatfield.
Lena was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Lena are her two brothers: Manson Smith of Logan and William 'Bill' (Billie) Browning of Tennessee; her three sisters: Romaine (Jimmy) Sexton of Lorain, Ohio, Peg (Jim) Williams of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, and Norma (late, Jack) Jude of Justice; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Lena was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Friends may call at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert, on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Steele officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatfield cemetery at Sharon Heights, Hampden. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

P.J. 'Bud' Harless, Jr. 83, of Hampden, departed this life on Friday, October 12, 2007 at his residence.
Born on January 21, 1924 at Gilbert, he was the son of the late Pearlie Jackson and Elizabeth Trent Harless. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Allen Harless; one son, David Harley Harless; and eight brothers and sisters: Frank Harless, Milton Harless, Marie Harless Mace, Fred D. Harless, Mae Morrison, Francis Harless, Betty Jo Harless Collins, and Ray Harless.
Mr. Harless was a Nascar Driver and loved car racing as a hobby. He was an Army Veteran of WWII (Riflemen), a member of the UMWA, and of the Baptist Faith.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of 'Bud' are his loving wife, Ruth Ann Roberts Harless of Hampden; his children: Glenna Jean (Daniel) Woods of Bomont, Jeanne Lynn Harless of Gilbert, Joe (JoAnn) Harless of Hanover, Angela Harris of Gilbert, a special son-in-law that he loved as much as a son, Gary Harris of Gilbert, and a daughter-in-law, Connie Harless of Welch; his brothers and sisters: James H. 'Buck' (Hallie) Harless, Lucille Fortner, Marshall (Opal) Harless, Earl (Trula) Harless, all of Gilbert, and Jimmy Harless of Oceana; his ten grandchildren: Todd Lester, Barbara Musick, Ted Musick, Debbie Springfield, Preston Springfield, Charlene Woods, Amy Hollins, Brian Keene, Dana Harless and David Harless; his eighteen great grandchildren, his four great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Friends called at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Sunday, October 14, 2007, from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 15, 2007, at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clifford Rawls and Rev. Jim Nagy officiating. Burial followed in the Resthaven Memorial Park at Princeton. Pallbearers were: Ralph Trent, Rick Cresong, Glen Harris, Carlos Mounts, Jimmy Tiller, Ronnie Mounts and Alan Harris. Honorary Pallbearers were: Harry Ellis, Frank Rogers, Mack Lester, Junior Chapman, Gilbert Autry, Franklin Cox, Roger Dingess, and James Veal. Military Graveside Rites will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Council.

Lake Callaway, 91, of Wharncliffe, departed this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at Appalachian Regional Healthcare in South Williamson, KY.
Born on February 27, 1916, at Wharncliffe, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Dix and Lula (Smith) Browning. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B. Callaway; one daughter, Wanda Smith; one son, Jim Callaway; four sisters: Dorcus Trent, Sadie Ellis, Etta Mae May, and Juanita Toler; and three brothers: Paul, Silas, and Tabor Browning.
Lake was a member of the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church of God, a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Those left to love and cherish the memories of Lake are her children: Reita (Ray) Ball of Augusta, GA, Linda (Joe) Denton of Lusby, MD, Kathy Callaway of Chicago, IL, and Betty Callaway of Gilbert; her son-in-law, David Smith of Newburg, MD; her daughter-in-law, Lou Callaway of Wharncliffe; her sisters-in-law: Jackie Browning and Mildred Browning of Wharncliffe; her 16 grandchildren; her 26 great grandchildren; and a host of church family and friends.
Friends may call at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church of God on Friday, October 12, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church of God, with the Rev. Denny May, Rev. Roy Lee Lester, and the Rev. Danny Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Browning Family cemetery at Wharncliffe. Active Pallbearers will be: Jeff Browning, Chet Mudd, Robert Fowler, Jared Callaway, Tony Mudd, Ray Ball, Brian Denton, Davey Smith, Eric Callaway, and Larry Callaway. Honorary Pallbearers will be: James Smith, Billy Trent, Bud Chapman, Lonnie Patrick, and Earnie Gibson.

Buck R. Jones, 70, of Isaban, departed this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at Charleston Area Medical Center.
Born, July 4, 1937 at War Eagle, he was the son of the late Sidney and Ada Jones.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Vada Virginia (Hopson) Jones, and one daughter, Tina Woods-Chaffins.
Mr. Jones was a disabled coal miner and of the Holiness Faith.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Buck are his son, Buck (Deborah) Jones, Jr. of Isaban; one sister, Mary Cline of Mohawk; two special nephews: Hassell Robinette of Mohawk and Kendall Cline of Mohawk; three grandchildren: Derek, Chris, and Brandy Woods of Ohio; his companion of 11 years, Claudine Hagerman of Isaban; and a host of family and friends.
Friends may call at the Isaban Church of God, Isaban, WV, on Thursday, October 11, 2007, from 6 to 11 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 12, 2007, at the Isaban Church of God with the Rev. Tom Fife and Rev. Ronald May officiating. Burial will follow in the Four Pole cemetery at Mohawk. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Charles M. (Mike) Christian, 67, of Verner, went to heaven to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday, October 8, 2007, from Logan Regional Medical Center.
Mike was born July 7, 1940 at Verner, to the late Arden Lee Christian and Helen Christian Thompson Browning. Also preceding him in death was his stepfather, Charles E. Thompson; his paternal grandparents, O. V. and Bessie Christian; his maternal grandparents, Charles A. and Myrtle Harvey; and his aunt Betty Christian Smith.
Mike was a graduate of Gilbert High School, Marshall University and Radford University. He was employed with the Logan County Board of Education for 39 years. Mike was a teacher at Buffalo Grade, Man Junior High and Man High School. He was principal of Amherstdale Grade School before retiring in 1997. He also coached basketball, baseball and tennis.
Mike was a member of the Verner Community Church where he taught Sunday School, conducted Bible Study and served as a deacon. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Man Rotary Club where he served two terms as president. He was also a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship.
Those left to love and cherish his memory include his wife, Wanda Booth Christian; one son, Charles M. (Jodi) Christian II of Charlotte, NC; one daughter, Kelli (Mike) Dufresne of Cocoa, FL; five grandchildren: Christian Scott Dufresne, Jared Parker Dufresne and Sydnee Brooke Dufresne, Arden Beth Christian and Charles M. 'Chaz' Christian III; two brothers: Donald Ray (Peggy) Christian of Ocala, FL, and Terry Lee (Carole) Christian of Reynoldsburg, OH; one aunt, Genevieve (John) Spangler of Columbus, OH; one uncle, Eugene (Marty) Smith of Clarkesville, GA; his loving sisters-in-law: Betty (Ed) Kessler of Accoville, Donna (DJ) Gollihue of LaGrange, KY, Sandra Johnson of Princeton, Andrea (Richard) Thompson of Davin, and Alice (Jon) Perry of Man; stepfather, Tracy Browning of Verner; several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many, many special friends.
Friends may call at the Verner Community Church on Wednesday, October 10th from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, October 11, 2007, at the Verner Community Church with the Rev. Rodney Robinette and the Rev. Walter Grimmett officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Pecks Mill. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Mora Curtis Browning, 52, of Gilbert, departed this life on Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Gilbert.
Born, July 31, 1955, at Gilbert, he was the beloved son of Mora Lee and Virginia (Poe) Browning.
Mr. Browning was a disabled coal miner and of the Church of God faith.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Mora Curtis are his parents, Mora Lee and Virginia Browning of Gilbert; his three daughters: Mary Ann Browning Cline and Jennifer Nichole Browning both of Red House, and Rebecca Lea Browning of Gilbert; his granddaughter, Hannah Paige Cline of Red House; his grandson, Hunter Gaige Morgan of Gilbert; his sister, Sue Miller of Hinkley, OH; his six brothers: Fred Browning of Danville, David Browning of Ocala, FL, Terry Lee Browning of Gilbert, Danny George Browning of Ben Creek, Jay Browning of Gilbert, and Richard Browning of Ocala, FL; and a host of family and friends.

Active pallbearers were his brothers: Fred, David, Terry Lee, Danny George, Jay, and Richard Browning.
