Olive B. Nichols, 81, of Spencer, died Monday, Dec. 18, 1995, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Edward and Myrtle Wilson Parsons. She was a machine operator at Kellwood Co., Spencer and a member of Advent Christian Church. Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Hoskins of Spencer; one son, Steve Nichols of Morgantown; one sister, Grace Pursley of Spencer; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harland H. Nichols. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Mark Berkhouse and Rev. Roy Russell officiating, and burial in Hebron cemetery.
NORMAN, ROMIE
Romie Norman, 90, of Spencer, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 1995, at Roane General Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Edward E. and Nannie M. Suttles Norman. He formerly worked at B.F. Goodrich, Akron. He also worked as a timberman and a pipeliner. He enjoyed beekeeping. Surviving are his wife, Elva E. Smith of Clover; four daughters, Jackalea Ice of Spencer, Sharon Sue Scott of Williams Road, Va., Jean King of Parkersburg and Clara Knowles of Allegheny, N.Y.; three sons, David Norman, Larry King and Gary King, all of Spencer; three sisters, Gracie Bird and Hallie Trail, both of Akron, and Ocie Brock of Tice, Fla.; three brothers, Winnie Norman and Hugh Norman, both of Akron, and Elmore Norman of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; and one great- grandson. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Mildred Norman; four sisters, Tempie Chitty, Jennie Salisbury, Osvie Norman and one infant; and two brothers, Orland Norman and David Norman. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Evangelist Larry Haught officiating. Burial was in Eventide cemetery, Spencer.

Ota Jarvis Starcher Northrop, 91, of Ivydale, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John T. "Decker" and Lydia Alice Hensley Jarvis. She was a Glenville State College graduate and a retired elementary school teacher. She was a member of Big Otter Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Elva May and Mardell Nevans, both of Ivydale, and Lydia Gay Asbury of Jonesville, N.C.; two sons, Marlyn Starcher and Carol "Kayo" Starcher, both of Ivydale; one stepdaughter, Vesta Arnold of Arnoldsburg; 31 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruby Metheney. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Pat Greene officiating. Burial was in Sy Jarvis cemetery, Oka.

Ottmer W. Owens, 73, of Cabins, formerly of Ravenswood, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1995, at his residence. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Joshua Sewell Owens and Nellie Wright Owens Cain. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and retired from Kaiser Aluminum Corp., Ravenswood, in 1979. He moved to Petersburg in 1979, and was a member of United Steel Workers Local 5668 and Maysville Bible Brethern Church, having served as deacon and adult Sunday School teacher. Surviving are his wife, Reva Gainer Owens; two sons, Gary Ottmer Owens of Ravenswood and Cary Lamont Owens of Petersburg; three daughters, Donna Carron Sturm of Ravenswood and Velieca Carlene Raines and Manassa Valene Hyre, both of Petersburg; eight sisters, Vonda Widenhoft of Michigan City, Ind., Wanda Hudson of Dunbar, Jean Godfrey, Greta Richards and Joyce Roberts, all of Grantsville, Carolyn Preston of Belpre, Darlene Roberts and Sharlene Sadler, both of Parkersburg; seven brothers, Woodrow Owens and Joshua Owens, Jr., both of Ravenswood, George Owens of Columbus, Ronnie Owens and Charles Owens, both of Parkersburg, Roger Cain of Bridgeport and Dennis Cain of Grantsville; 11 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
PARK, JAMES D.
James D. Park, 74, of Newtown, Mingo County, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1995, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ken., after an extended illness. He was born in Creston, a son of Mabel Davis Park of Elizabeth and the late William Henry Park. He retired from the military after 20 years of service in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was a prisoner of war while serving in the Eurpoean Theater during World War II and also was a Korean War veteran. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Ilene Mitchell Park; two brothers, Charles Park of Newark and Marlin Park of Burning Springs; two sisters, Mary Bock and Marie Snyder, both of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Dean Ash and Rev. Edgar Cooper officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Groundhog, near Creston, with military rites.

Alice Parsons, 80, of Parkersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1995, at her nephew's residence in Williamstown after an extended illness. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John W. and Emma Lona Parsons Parsons. She retired from the State of West Virginia, having worked in the Capitol Building. She was a Baptist. Surviving are three sisters, Amanda Sims of Parkersburg, Roxie Cain of Sayresville, Ohio, and Dola Nichols of Orma; and several nieces and nephews, including Russell Taylor of Williams-town. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter; three sisters, Effie Metz, Virgie Hardway and Lucy Nichols; and one brother, Simon Parsons. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Perry L. Stewart officiating. Burial was in Clark Jarvis cemetery, Chloe.

Gretta Inez Parsons, 68, of Mt. Zion, died Monday, April 24, 1995, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born in Minnora, a daughter of Maude Arnold Parsons of Mt. Zion, and the late William Vear Parsons, Sr. Surviving in addition to her mother are two brothers, William Vear Parsons, Jr., of Orange, Calif., and Gorden Parsons of Downey, Calif.; two sisters, Evon Hawkins of Mt. Zion and Wilma Webb of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jennings Parsons, in 1985; two infant brothers; and one infant sister. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in King cemetery near Nicut.

Ica Schartiger Parsons, 92, of Fairborn, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1995, in Green Memorial Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John and Mollie Schartiger of Orma. She was a member of Fairborn St. Luke United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Vioma Lykin of Florida and Naomi Ruth Lykin of Fairborn; a son, Roma K. Parsons, Jr., of Fairborn; a daughter-in-law, Vernamae Parsons of Springfield; a brother, Charles Schartiger of Hartville, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roma Kaiser Parsons, Sr., ; two sons, Edsel G. Parsons and Clifford M. Parsons; a daughter, Mary Louise Parsons; four sisters; and a granddaughter. Burial was in Fairfield cemetery, Fairborn, Ohio.

Mary V. Parsons, 46, of Mt. Clair, Harrison County, died Wednesday, Mar. 15, 1995, at her home, following an extended illness. She was born in Oka, a daughter of Cora Hicks of Chloe and the late Iras Hicks. She was a 1968 graduate of Calhoun County High School and lived in North Carolina for many years. She was a homemaker and member of Gordge Savings Baptist Church, Spring Lakes, N.C. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Denzil "Jack" Parsons; three daughters, Joyce Stafford of San Antonio, Tex., Stephanie Collins of Fayetteville, N.C., and Beth Parsons of the home; a son, Ryan Parsons of the home; six brothers, Gene Hicks of Crown City, Jarrett Hicks of Statesville, N.C., Caroll "Buck" Hicks of Nicut, Edward Hicks, Donald Hicks and Forest Hicks, all of Chloe; five sisters, Francis Edwin of Parkersbirg, Gwendolyn Simmons of Minnora, Sue Sampson of Mineral Wells, Patricia Siers of Chloe and Margarett Lantz of Mt. Clair; and two grandchildren. The body was cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date with internment in Clark Jarvis cemetery, Chloe.

Kathryn Pauline Peninger, 87, of Vienna, formerly of Grantsville, died Sunday, April 23, 1995, at Worthington Manor, Parkersburg. She was born in Richwood, a daughter of the late Rev. Willie Dell and Ora VanHorn Burns. She was a 10-year resident of Vienna, was a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville, and served in various churches as a teacher and choir member. Surviving are one daughter, Eva "Bunny" Bennett Turner of Vienna; two grandddaughters, Sandra Hinzman Davitian and Reva Dyanne Alkire, both of Vienna; one step-grandson, Steven Turner of Dunedin Fla.; one step-granddaughter, Jane P. Kiger of Vienna; two great-grandsons; six step-great-grandsons; two step-great-granddaughters; one step-great- great-granddaughter; four nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Peninger; three sisters, Lela R. Mitcham, Maude Waldo Klabbatz and Eva O. Burns; and one step-great-granddaughter. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, with Rev. John Koemer officiating, and graveside services on Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Odd Fellows cemetery, Grantsville.
PETTY, CHARLES E.
Charles E. Petty, 57, of Massillon, Ohio, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 1995, at his home following a year long illness. He was born in Beatrice, a son of the late Frank and Mabel Morris Petty. He moved to Canton in 1950 and to Massillon in 1964. He graduated from Timken High School in 1956. He retired from Republic Engineered Steels in August, and was a member of Eagles 190. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Caroline "June" Clayton Petty; a daughter, Kelly (Christopher) Garlando of Massillon; two sons, Jearold Petty of Akron and Tim Petty of Massillon; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Petty; a grandson, Christopher Garlando; a sister; and a brother. Services were held at Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon, with Rev. J. Daniel Frost officiating. Burial was in Massillon cemetery.
