Charles E. "Chuck" Bailey, 59, of Aqua Isles Trailer Court, Parkersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 1995, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of Evelyn Sears Bailey of Parkersburg and the late Charles G. Bailey. He was a retired barber from A Man's Place, Parkersburg. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Hilda Ruth Veon Bailey; one son, Charles E. Bailey, Jr., of Parkersburg; one daughter, Sheila Collins of Belleville; one granddaughter; five brothers, Frank Bailey of Tucson, Ariz., Buck Bailey and Dan Bailey, both of Parkersburg, Jack Bailey and David Bailey, both of Beaver Falls, Pa.; and five sisters, Wilma Vannoy of Elwood City, Pa., Karen Lutz of Beaver Falls, Mary Cooper of Washington, Sue Smith of Belleville and Gladys Linger of Weston. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Bailey and Iva Jean Bailey; and one brother, Roger Bailey. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Lynn Roush officiating.
BAILEY, PATRICK F.
Patrick Fleming Bailey, 93, of Parkersburg, died Thursday, May 2, 1996, at Worthington Manor Care Center, Parkersburg. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late James H. and Hattie M. McKee Bailey. He retired from Viscose, Parkersburg, after 39 years of service. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Stephenson Memorial United Church, Parkersburg, where he was the oldest male member. Surviving are his wife, Esta Cottrill Clevenger Bailey; one son, Walter Judd Bailey of Torrance, Calif.; two stepsons, Ward Clevenger and Hobart Clevenger, both of Parkersburg; one step-daughter, Patty Clevenger Depue of Parkersburg; 13 grandchildren; 28 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one stepson, Eugene Clevenger; two sisters; and four brothers. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. William Haynes and Rev. Richard Cottrill officiating. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery, Parkersburg.

David Archibald Bain, 26, of Magnolia, Del., died Sunday, July 21, 1996 near Grantsville. He was bom in Wood County, a son of Carroll Bain of Leroy and Mary Gayheart Bain Lynch of Magnolia. He was a carpenter for Rabeno Construction Co., Magnolia. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Angelia Nickhole Myer Bain; one son, David Tyler Bain, at home; two daughters, Brandi Nicole Bain and Emily Brooke Bain, both at home; three brothers, Thomas Bain of Dover, Del., Johnathan Bain of Magnolia and Jerry Bain of Elizabeth; one sister, Ruth Erhardt of Magnolia; and three stepsisters, Carrie Lynch, Jamie Lynch and Nichole Lynch, all of Elizabeth. Services were held at Burning Springs United Methodist Church, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Two Ripple cemetery, Elizabeth.
BARKER, THOMAS D.
Thomas D. Barker, 64, of Newark, Ohio, a retired U.S. Army master sergeant decorated in the Vietnam War, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1996, at Licking Memorial Hospital, Newark. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Thomas D. Barker, Sr., and Opal Sturm Summers. He retired from the Army after 25 years of service. He served in the combat engineers in Germany from 1961-1966 and from 1975-1977. He served two tours of combat duty in Vietnam from 1967-1968 and from 1970-1971. He was the owner of Tom's Liquor Store and Fountain Motel, Fountain, Colo. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, three Overseas Service Bars, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct and Marksman medals. He was a member of American Legion Post 0764, Hanover, Ohio, and a life-member of the VFW of Grantsville. He was a member of Parkersburg Moose Lodge 1118, Elks Lodge of Cripple Creek, Colo., Confederate Veterans of America, Huntington, Druids Club of Newark, Grants-ville IOOF, In Country Vietnam Veterans of Tempe, Ariz., Vietnam Veterans of America in which he was Ohio treasurer, and National Rifle Association. He was a former member of Fountain City Council. Surviving are his wife, Gail Warren Barker; two foster brothers, Richard Sturm of Ravenswood and John Sturm of Parkersburg; one foster sister, Marie Cheesbrew of Grantsville; one half sister, Joann Stull of Grantsville; two half brothers, Charles Summers of Waverly and Jack Summers of Elyria, Ohio. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. James Reed officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, Grantsville.
BARNES, GEORGE R.
George Rexie Barnes, 79, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1995, at Martinsburg City Hospital. He was born in Fairmont, a son of the late William and Adaline Cunningham Barnes. He was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, Glenville State College, and received his master's degree from West Virginia University. He was a veteran of World War II, and a retired social worker for Veterans Administration, Martinsburg. He was a member of Grantsville Eureka Lodge 40, AF&AM, and Beech Valley United Methodist Church, Big Springs. Surviving are his wife, Edda Bernice Roberts Barnes; two daughters, Linda Renee Arant of Kearneysville and E. Yvette Barnes of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, Fred Barnes of Grantsville and Shirley Barnes of Sistersville; one sister, Thelma Golf of Parkersburg; three grandsons; and one foster sister, Bonnie Brown of Marietta. He was preceded in death by one son, Terance Barnes; one daughter, Karen Barnes; and two brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Fred Basnett officiating. Burial was in Nobe cemetery, Nobe.
BARR, RICHARD H.
Richard H. "Dick" Barr, 60, of Elizabeth, died Thursday, May 23, 1996, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late French and Mildred Cowan Barr. He was a 1954 graduate of Wirt County High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from E.I. DuPont in 1988 with more than 30 years of service and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Selective Service Board, Wirt County Lions Club, and Elizabeth United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Janet Honaker Barr; one son, Greg Barr of Elizabeth; one daughter, Kelly Tanner of Eliza-beth; one sister, Wanda Edgell of Elyria, Ohio; one aunt, Dennie Dennison of Elyria; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three stepgreat- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jeannie Barr. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Michael E. Taylor officiating. Burial was in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Elizabeth, with military rites by American Legion Post 55, Elizabeth.

Gary Michael Bates, 15, of Big Springs, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, Jan. 15. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of Jeffery C. Richards of Big Springs and Robin Bates Greer of Newton Falls, Ohio. He was a ninth grade student at Calhoun County High School. Surviving in addition to his parents are his step-father, Coolidge Greer of Newton Falls; three sisters, Tamy Jo Richards and Heather Ann Richards, both of Big Springs, and Amy Lynn Bates of Newton Falls; one brother, Jeffery C. Richards, II, of Big Springs; paternal grandmother, Glenna Richards of Big Springs; and maternal grandmother, Rosalee Bates of Newton Falls. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jeramie Bates. Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Big Springs cemetery. Madeline Bednar, 68, of Grantsville, died Saturday, May 4, 1996, at Lake County Hospital East, Painesville, Ohio. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Carl and Anna Keller Eagle. She was a homemaker. Surviving are one daughter, Linda Freund of Madison, Ohio; three sisters, Ruth Dye of Big Springs, Omagene Williams of Big Bend and Wanda L. Miller of Cleveland; three grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. Services were scheduled on Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with burial in Goodnight cemetery, Big Bend.

Delbert C. Bennett, 77, of Spencer, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 1996, at his residence. He was born in Ravenswood, a son of the late William and Nellie Kidder Bennett. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was retired from Key Ford Auto Sales of Pensacola, Fla. He was a Baptist. Surviving are his wife, Hazel; six daughters, Emogene Hitchcock of Parkersburg, Mary Steorts of Marietta, Alice Plecker of Greenville, Va., Sandra Bennett and Pamela Cason, both of Grantsville, and Christina Hendershot of Lower Salem, Ohio; two sons, Ronald Bennett of Pensacola and Bruce Bennett of Spencer; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Bennett. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Hunt cemetery near Big Bend.

Kennard Betts, 76, of Harrisville, formerly of Grantsville, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 1996, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Ray William and Pearl Cain Betts. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired oilfield worker and a Methodist. Surviving are two sisters, Madeline Smith of Oak Hill and Mary Hosey of Garrettsville, Ohio; three brothers, Ray Betts of Cambridge, Ohio, George Betts of Harrisville and William Betts of Diamond, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Roberts; and two brothers, Harry Betts and Bernard Betts. Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, and burial will be in Betts cemetery, near Grantsville.

Vena Johnson Bickerstaff, 90, of Grantsville, died Monday, June 24, 1996, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. She was born in Index, Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Carl and Elizabeth Nester Vannoy. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Stumptown. Surviving are three sons, Rev. William L. Johnson of Caldwell, Clyde Johnson of Elyria, Ohio, and Frank Johnson of Grafton, Ohio; one daughter, Irene Price of Sandusky, Ohio; one sister, Delphia Vannoy of Grantsville; one brother, Glennard Vannoy of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Johnson; her second husband, Jasper Bickerstaff; and one son.
