Minnie Husk, 83, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 1996, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Hur, a daughter of the late Austin and Phoebe Tuttle Husk. She was a former inspector for General Motors, Parma, Ohio. Surviving are one daughter, Kathleen Riddle of Grantsville; one sister, Mary Bryner of Parkersburg; and one grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Husk; four sisters; and two brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Margaret Schmidt officiating. Burial was in Husk cemetery, Hur Community, Mt. Zion.
JACOBS, MICHAEL E.
Michael E. Jacobs, 44, died in Oak Grove Nursing Home, Deshler, Ohio, on Wednesday, Mar. 6, 1996. He had been in a coma since 1987 when he suffered a heart attack after playing in an amateur hockey game in Charleston. He resided in Oak Grove Nursing Home for six years. He was the son of Edward P. and Carole Jacobs of Toledo, Ohio. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School and was a member of the first graduating class of St. John's Jesuit High School in 1969. He moved to West Virginia in 1977. He was a journeyman printer, having worked for The Blade in Toledo, a print shop in Parkersburg, and in 1981 founded Red Clay Press in Grantsville. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Jeanne, of Grantsville; six daughters, Heather, Peace, Jennifer, Mary, Amy and Tara; two brothers, James T. and John J. Jacobs; seven sisters, Mary Richards, Tina Pozniak, Julie Weills, Lisa Jacobs, Barbara Wilson, Carole Dario and Donna Jacob; and one grandchild. A private funeral service was scheduled Wednesday, 8 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, Deshler, and Saturday, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Toledo. Joseph Clarence Jarvis, 81, of Bramblewood Village, formerly of Chapel, Braxton County, died Thursday, June 6, 1996, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston. He was born in Braxton County, a son of the late William H. and Mary Jane Richardson Jarvis. He was a retired dairy farmer. Surviving are one niece, Phyllis Taylor of Weston; and one nephew, David Jarvis of Arizona. Graveside services were held at Richmond Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, Chapel Route, Gassaway.

Margaret P. Jarvis, 76, of Minnora, died Tuesday, Mar. 19, 1996, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Clay County, a daughter of the late Anthony and Vesta Tawney Metheney. She was a homemaker and a member of Milo Church, Minnora. Surviving are her husband, Carl B. Jarvis; one son, Randy Jarvis of Parkersburg; two daughters, Anita Eagle of Mt. Zion and Beverly Harold of Chloe; one stepson, Lowell G. Jarvis of Ripley; one brother, Willard Metheney of Newton; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Jack Stump and Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Minnora cemetery.

Orvie R. Jarvis, 90, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996, at Worthington Manor Nursing Home, Parkersburg. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late George Warren and May Lance Jarvis. She was a cook and a homemaker. Surviving are one daughter, Dormal Hersman of Parkersburg; one son, Norvill "Bud" Batten of Phoenix; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, four sisters, and two brothers. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. John Bowen officiating. Burial was in Spencer Memorial cemetery.

Stephan C. Jarvis, 43, of Parkersburg Road, Spencer, died Thursday, March 14, 1996, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer. He was born in Akron, Ohio, the son of Claude and June Sharps Jarvis of Spencer. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a machinist in Dayton, Ohio. Surviving in addition to his parents are two daughters, Angel Jarvis of Akron and Stephanie Jarvis of Dayton; one son, Brian Jarvis of Dayton; and four brothers, Kevin Jarvis of Chloe, David Jarvis of Dayton, Ricky Jarvis of Spencer and Roger Jarvis of Akron. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Darrell Mollohan officiating. Burial was in Coen cemetery, Nebo, Clay County.

Jessie Irene Johnson, 74, of Parkersburg, died Friday, March 15, 1996, at her daughter's residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of Oma Roberts Slider of Belpre and the late S. J. Slider. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Surviving are one daughter, Carlene McCauley of Parkersburg; three sons, Arthur Johnson and Kevin Johnson, both of Parkersburg and Frances VanMeter of Boaz; one brother, Veon Slider of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. B. Johnson; one son, Robert VanMeter; and three brothers, Cleo Slider, Delbert Slider and Holly Slider. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial was in Evergreen North cemetery.
JOHNSON, KARL C.
Karl C. Johnson, 107, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, May 22, 1996, at Louis Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late William C. and Emma Westfall Johnson. He was a combat-wounded veteran of World War I, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a tool dresser in the oil and gas fields of Calhoun County and a farmer. Early in life he was employed by Ira N. Stump Funeral Home, as a teamster and drove a horse-drawn hearse, prior to the introduction of motorized vehicles, in the funeral processions in Calhoun and surrounding counties. He was a charter member of American Legion Post and VFW Post at Grantsville, a former member of Knights of Pythias Lodge, Grantsville, and the oldest member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Grantsville. Surviving are two sons, William J. Johnson of Grantsville and Herbert Dale Johnson of Berea, Ohio; one daughter, Genevieve Ullery of Walkerton, Ind.; two grandchildren; three stepgrand-children; one great-grandchild; and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Hayhurst Johnson; four brothers, Ray Johnson, Clyde Johnson, Clark Johnson and Glen Johnson; and two sisters, Carrie Johnson and Mavel Johnson. Services were held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery.

Levi Curtis Johnston, 67, of Belpre, died Sunday, Mar. 10, 1996, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg. He was born in Nicholas County, a son of the late John Edward and Melissa Bice Johnston. He was a carpenter for Hillcrest Builders, Little Hocking, Ohio. Surviving are his wife, Betty Halfhill Johnston; three daughters, Laura Lovely of Lawton, Okla., Sandra Shahan of Little Hocking and Rebecca McConaha of Belpre; seven sons, John Johnston and Earl Johnston, both of Cincinnati, Kenneth Johnston of Cleveland, Jamie Johnston of Grantsville, Bill Johnston and Fred Johnston, both of Belpre, and Steve Johnston of Parkersburg; one brother, Edward Johnston of Canton; two sisters, Geneva Snyder and Jessie Shirey, both of Parkersburg; 31 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Walter Johnston and Levi Johnston, Jr.; one daughter, Mary Boyd; four brothers; and one sister. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Spencer Funeral Home, Belpre, with Rev. Bill Angel officiating, and the body to be cremated.

Freeda Opal Woofter Jones, 90, of Glenville, died Monday, June 24, 1996, at her daughter's residence in Newark. She was born in Hurst, Lewis County, a daughter of the late Lewis C. and Emma Sims Woofter. She was a former educator in Lewis, Gilmer and Webster counties. She was a member of Gilmer County Senior Citizens, Kanawha Drive Extension Homemakers, West Fork Soil Conservation Wives, Gilmer County Farm Bureau, and American Baptist Women. She was a 1979 Folk Festival Belle for the W.Va. State Folk Festival and a Gilmer County 4-H leader.shewas a Sunday School teacher, women's Bible class teacher and member of the choir at First Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Tonabelle Turner of Newark, Deronda Richman of Williamstown and Wandalene Drake of Glenville; two sons, Lyndall Jones of Parkersburg and Randall -C. Jones of Mt. Zion; 22 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adren G. Jones; one son, Raymel Jones; one daughter, Wilodene Currence; 12 brothers; and one sister. Services were held at Glenville Baptist Church, with Rev. Fred Mulneix and Rev. David Carpenter officiating. Burial. was in Meadow Lane cemetery.

Jessie H. Jones, 66, of Rt. 1, Pennsboro, formerly of Mahone Community, Ritchie County, died Thursday, March 14, 1996, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. He was born near Grantsville, a son of the late James Talbert and Martha Landra Kirby Jones. He was a former employee of the Harrisville Water & Sewer Department and a former employee of the West Virginia Parks System at North Bend State Park. Surviving are his wife, Dollie W. Bell Jones; four daughters, Nancy Primm of Smithville, Martha J. Simmons of Grantsville, Wilma L. Keister and Brenda S. Jones of Pennsboro; six sons, Jessie L. Jones, Ralph A. Jones and Thurl W. Jones, all of Pennsboro, James O. Jones of St. Marys, Donald E. Jones of Grantsville and Gail R. Jones of Harrisville; one stepdaughter, Hazel Sheppard of Oak Hill; one brother, James P. Jones of Ravenna, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother; five sisters; and two grandsons. Services were held at Apostolic Church of Pennsboro with Rev. Frank Simons officiating. Burial was in IOOF cemetery, Harrisville.
