McCARTNEY, DIANE F.

Diane Ferry McCartney, 65, of Morgantown, died Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at her home. She was born in Clarksburg, the daughter of the late Ted and Evelyne Jones Ferry. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Morgantown, where she served as Deacon. She was an honor graduate of Moore College of Art and Design, Philadelphia. She also studied at Salem College, West Virginia University, Villanova University, and University of Pennsylvania. Her major art works include a religious mural in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Keyser; Morgantown Historical Mural, hanging in Mountineer Mall, which she was coordinator and a major contributor; and a sculpted bust of Perley Isaac Reed, which stands in WVU School of Journalism. A large portrait of her husband, exhibited last year in the Morgantown Art Association's Exhibit 60, won two awards: the Margaret Wheat Award and the painting most representative of West Virginia. She was a life member of Morgan-town Art Association and Girl Scouts of America, and member of Florence Stewart Book Club and Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Dr. Hunter P. McCartney, who resided in Calhoun and taught at Calhoun High School for several years; one son, James Hunter McCartney of Kingwood; three daughters, Deborah McCartney of Morgantown, Nancy Hannah of Raleigh, N.C., and Ali Kawashima of Greensboro, N.C.; and four grandchildren. Cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home, Inc. The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church, Morgantown, on Friday from 1 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Richard W. Fiete officiating.

McCORMICK, ELWOOD

Elwood A. McCormick, 78, of Tom's Run, Spencer, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1996, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division. He was born in White Sulphur Springs, a son of the late Orlando C. and Effie Stalnaker McCormick. He was retired from Island Creek Coal Co., Mingo County. He was a stockman and a farmer and attended Cedar Grove Church, Barnes Run. Surviving are four daughters, Barbara Daugherty of Trout-ville, Va., Loretta Morrison of Delbarton, Shirley Moore of Kermit and Darlene Cisco of Hardy, Ky.; three sons, Jimmy McCormick and Steven McCormick, both of Grantsville, and Walter McCor-mick of Mentor, Ohio; one sister, Bonnie Lee of Brook Park, Ohio; one brother, Ernest McCormick of Mansfield, Ohio; 17 grand-children; 18 great- grandchildren; five foster grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ayers McCormick; one sister, Aline McCormick; and one brother, Clyde McCormick. Services were held at Sinnett-Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Carroll L. McCauley officiating. Burial was in Hodam Chapel cemetery, Spencer.

McCOY, CLIFFORD

Clifford McCoy, 65, of Nicut, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 1996, at Roane General Hospital. He was born in Jackson County, a son of the late Holly and Ella Rose McCoy. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and had retired as an oil field driller. He was a member of Fairview Memorial Church, Nicut. Surviving are his wife, Tressie McCoy; two sons, Gilfford McCoy of Nicut and Daniel McCoy of Chloe; one daughter, Mylinda McCoy of Nicut; two brothers, John McCoy and Darrell McCoy, both of Freemont, Ohio; three sisters, Louise McCoy of Waverly, Ohio, and Rose McCoy and Stella McCoy, both of Racine, Ohio; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy McCoy and Foster McCoy. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in Big Run cemetery, Nicut.

McCUMBERS, ETHEL

Ethel McCumbers, 86, of Leroy, died Friday, April 26, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Nichols and Mauda Myers Nichols. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Warren McCumbers of Grantsvillle; two sons, Charles Nichols of Leroy and Ramond Nichols of Ravenna, Ohio; one sister, Essie Nichols of Leroy; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services were held at Mt. Zion Church, Gay, Roane County. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

McCUMBERS ONA M.

Ona May McCumbers, 87, of Nicut, W.Va., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 1996, at Americare Pine Lodge, Beckley, following an extended illness. She was born in Clay County, a daughter of the late Grover W. and Duck McCumbers Dickey. She was employed in the personal care of the elderly service in Jackson County for many years. Surviving are one son, Warren McCumbers of Grantsville; and two sisters, Tressie McCoy and Mable King, both of Nicut. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating. Burial was in Nebo Baptist Church cemetery, Nebo.

McDONALD, ASA R.

Asa R. McDonald, 79, of Pine View Convalescent Home, Harrisville, died Thursday, May 16, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Philip and Ruth McDonald. Services were held at Harrisville IOOF cemetery, with Rev. Carlton Wilson officiating.

McKINLEY, C. E.

C.E. "Butch" McKinley, 48, of Arnoldsburg, died Saturday, May 25, 1996, near Arnoldsburg as a result of a shooting, believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was born at Spencer, the son of Carroll E. McKinley, Sr., of Hollindale, Fla., and Nelma Stump of Orma. He was a graduate of Calhoun County High School and West Virginia Institute of Technology. He was a former employee of Dowell Corp. He was a member of Bear Fork Hunting Club where he served as president and a member of Arnoldsburg Southern Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his parents are one daughter, Julie Vineyard of Arnoldsburg; one son, Nick McKinley of Indiana; one sister, Patti Hicks of Chloe; one brother, Mike Stump of Chloe; two half brothers, Howard McKinley of Louisiana and Wesley Moss of Florida; stepfather, Vance Stump of Orma; maternal grandmother, Nell Jarvis of Chloe; and two grandchildren. Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Robert Shannon and Dr. Claude Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Minnora cemetery, Minnora. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday.

McKINLEY, VICKI LYNN

Vicki Lynn McKinley, 48, of Arnoldsburg, died Saturday, May 25, 1996, near her home following a shooting. She was born in Wood County, a daughter of Anna Lee Byers of Walker and the late George J. Hays. She was a graduate of Glenville State College and was a teacher at Minnora Elementary School for over 20 years. She had previously attended airline service school in Minneapolis, Minn., and was a former employee of Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, D.C. She was a member and treasurer of Arnoldsburg Southern Baptist Church, Arnoldsburg. Surviving in addition to her mother are one daughter, Julie Ann Vineyard of Arnoldsburg; two grandchildren, Victoria and Cole Vineyard, both of Arnoldsburg; maternal grandmother, Delma Knotts of Walker; and stepfather, Leslie Byers of Walker. She was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Hays. Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Elder Charles Fisher and Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Hays cemetery, Arnolds-burg. Visitation was scheduled Wednesday, 6 to 9 p.m.

METHENEY, ESTEL

Estel Metheney, 81, of Waterford, died Saturday, May 25, 1996, at Selby General Hospital. He was born in Chloe, a son of the late Selvey and Marcella Rae Metheney. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a medic, and worked as a timber cutter most of his life. He was a member of Beverly Fraternal Order of Eagles 3665. Surviving are five sons, Dennis Metheney of Norton, Gary Metheney of Waterford, Dale Metheney of Brimfield, Mark Metheney of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and Sidney Metheney of Wooster; three daughters, Judy Hart of Beverly, Sandy Stollar and Jean Alderman, both of Oxford, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Peggs Metheney; two sons, Norman Metheney and Jerry Metheney; five brothers; and one sister. Private services were scheduled at the family's convenience, with burial in Metheney Family cemetery, Chloe.

MILLER, EUGENE H.

Eugene H. Miller, 78, of Arnoldsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1996, in Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Division. He was born at Spencer, a son of the late Samuel G. and Alta Mace Miller. He was retired from Gravely Tractor Corp., Dunbar and Urichsville, Ohio. He was a member of Linden Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Hughes Miller; one son, Charles Miller of Huntington; two daughters, Janet Gainer of Columbus and Jessica Dawn Miller of Arnoldsburg; one step-daughter, Sandra Siers of Orma; one stepson, David Hughes of Arnoldsburg; six brothers, Frank Miller of Pinch, Earl Miller and Doyle Miller, both of Charleston, Otis Miller of Millstone, Paul Miller of Barberton, Ohio, and Walter Miller of Spencer; eight grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma Edwards Miller, and three brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Miller cemetery, Spencer.

MILLER, ROY

Roy Miller, 85, of Creston, died Friday, Nov. 30, 1996, at his residence. He was born in Joker, a son of the late Arthur and Minnie Kirby Miller. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired from Metal Seal Corp., Cleveland, and was a member of VFW Post 5959 of Grantsville. Surviving are his wife, Stella Metts Miller; one son, John Miller of Ashland, Ky.; six daughters, Mary Yoak of Waterford, Sue Ray of Creston, Lucy McCoy of Akron, Ohio, Genny Miller of Marshallville, Ohio, Darlene Lott of Williamstown and Tina Jones of Nobe; two brothers, Holly Miller of Creston and John Miller of Grantsville; two sisters, Edith Poe of Belpre and Goldie McMurray of Homestead, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Hoy Miller; and two great-granddaughters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Jean Keller officiating. Burial was in Goodnight cemetery, Big Bend.

MILLER, VIOLET S.

Violet S. Miller, 82, of Dalton, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Minnora, a daughter of the late Reubin and Mary Siers. She was a Glenville State College graduate and taught for 30 years at Plain Local Schools in Canton and in Calhoun County schools. She taught Sunday School for more than 20 years at Canton Baptist Temple and was a member of Rebekah Lodge, Spencer, and Canton Baptist Temple. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Guy D. Miller of Dalton; one son, Robert Siers of Tennessee; one nephew, Tom Mullins of Florida; two nieces, Shirley Siers of North Canton and Doris Bourne of Texas; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Brook Siers, and two sisters, Marcie Mullins and Hazel Siers. Services were held at Reed Funeral Home, Canton, with Rev. Delaney Young officiating. Burial was in Prudence Chapel cemetery, Minnora.
