Stella May Schartiger, 78, of Shock, died Friday, July 19, 1996, at Roane General Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John W. and Zanna Tucker Lawson. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. Surviving are six sons, Arden Schartiger of Canton, Ohio, Ted Schartiger of Massillon, Ohio, Eule Schartiger of Shreve, Ohio, Kenneth Schartiger of Brewster, Ohio, Danny Schartiger of Arnoldsburg and Rodney Schartiger of Shock; two daughters, June Miller and Janet Hastewell, both of Shock; two brothers, Ray Lawson of Massillon and Denzil Lawson of Brewster; four sisters, Minnie Robinson of Harrisville, Cleo Newell of Orma, Zella Boone of Massillon and Helen Cottrill of Newberry, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Schartiger. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Lawson cemetery, Nicut.

Ada Pearl Shimer, 77, of Hesperia, Calif., died Sunday, Feb. 11, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Herbert and Lona Sampson Smith. She was a homemaker, and a member of Church of Christ. Surviving are her husband, James Shimer; one daughter, Deborah Susan Alvarez of Oxnard, Calif.; five sisters, Alma Bell of Tallmadge, Ohio, Dean Kaluza and Goldie Smith, both of Barberton, Ohio, Melvia Merideth of Columbus and Betty McCoy of Akron; one brother, Delbert Smith of Barberton; one stepson, Richard Shimer of Wadsworth, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Janice Stutler of Barberton; three grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Webb officiating. Burial was in Cooper cemetery, Creston.

Bill D. "Butch" Siers, 47, of Grantsville, died Friday, Sept. 6, 1996, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Grantsville. He was born in Spencer, a son of June Fogle Siers of Grantsville and the late Ermine Siers. He had attended Bob Jones University at Pontiac, Mich., for two years. He was an honorary deputy sheriff in Calhoun County. He was a member of Enon Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir. Surviving in addition to his mother are six sisters, Rebecca Whitlock of Powellton, Barbara Hamrick and Linda Peck, both of Grantsville, Shirley Allen of Toledo, Juanita Shafer of Cleveland, and Sharon Hendrickson of St. Clairsville, Ohio; six brothers, Kenneth Siers of Grantsville, Duane Siers and Dennie Siers, both of Cleveland, Gail Siers of Mineral Wells, Edsel Siers of Parkersburg and Eugene Siers of Wilmington, N.C. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Kenneth Heiney and Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Clyde Siers, 80, of Chloe, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1996, at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Burley and Savannah White Siers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was former owner/operator of Siers Grocery Co., Chloe, for 40 years. He was a retired postmaster at Chloe for 30 years of service and a former employee of Union Carbide Corp., Alloy. Surviving are his wife, Emma Metz Siers; two daughters, Sandra Murphy of Creston and Mary Sue Haas of Lost Creek; one son, Daniel L. Siers of South Charleston; and four grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Minnora cemetery.

Dortha L. Siers, 68, of Pleasant Hill, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Georgie Kelley Plant. She was retired from B.F. Goodrich, Grantsville, and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Susan Alloway of Belpre; three sisters, Carolyn Shaffer of Mt. Zion, Sharon Chadock of Cam-bridge and Elizabeth Shaffer of Walker; three brothers, Robert Plant and James Plant, both of Grantsville, and Roy Plant of Parkersburg; one grandson; and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Siers; and one sister, Hazel Stahl. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Carroll McCauley and Rev. Margaret Schmitz officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Willard Lee Siers, 68, of Spencer, died Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Walter and Dona Eismon Siers. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired truck driver. Surviving are two sons, Roger L. Siers of Clarington, Ohio, and Dennie A. Siers of Akron, Ohio; three sisters, Janice Parsons of Massillon, Ohio, Lena Nutter of Orma and Lorna Truman of Spencer; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four step- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Siers, Glen Siers and Randall Siers; and one sister, Lores Gallager. Services were scheduled Wednesday, noon, at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with burial in Minnora cemetery.

Ruth Simmons, 80, of Uniontown, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 23, 1996, in Stark County, Ohio. She was -born at Beech, a daughter of the late Grover and Stella Metheny Houchin. She was a licensed practical nurse and a member of Greentown United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Weldon Simmons; five sisters, , Opal Jett and Bernice Laughlin, both of Arnoldsburg, Eula Kerns and Madge McKown, both of Orma, and Marie McKown of Akron; two brothers, Clyde Houchin of Arnoldsburg and Grover Houchin of Orma; one granddaughter, one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one son, Ivan Simmons; one sister, and two brothers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Stanley Epling officiating. Burial was in Houchin cemetery near Arnoldsburg.

Dott Busch McFee Sims Blair, 84, of Elizabeth, died Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late William Robert and Lucinda Wilson Busch. She was a 1931 Parkersburg High School graduate and had attended Alderson-Broaddus College. She was a homemaker. She was a 50-year member of Wirt County Farm Women's Club and Elizabeth Homemakers Club. She was honored as Wirt County Belle to the West Virginia Folk Festival, Glenville, and was a longtime member of Wirt County Senior Citizens. She was a member of South Parkersburg United Methodist Church. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathy McFee of Elizabeth with whom she made her home; four grand-daughters, Stephanie McFee of Elizabeth, Carolyn Varlichi, Virginia "Brown" Crouser and Karen Murphy, all of Martinsburg; one grandson, Michael McFee of Elizabeth; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen McFee; second husband, Charles Sims; third husband, William Blair; six brothers, French B. Busch, Emory Ray Busch, John F. Busch, Eber N. Busch, Roscoe E. Busch and Robert Busch; and eight sisters, Mary Lusina Dawson, Blanche Ryan, Esther Snider, Emma Mason, Dorcas Gainer, Myrtle Snider, Jane Dawson and Belle Busch. Services were held at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. William P. Snider officiating. Burial was in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Elizabeth.

Albert E. Smith, 62, of Amoldsburg, died Sunday, July 7, 1996, at Roane General Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Okey and Lettie Price Smith. He was a well-known resident of Arnoldsburg and Beech communities. Surviving are one brother, Leon H. Smith of Orma; six nieces; one nephew; and several great-nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Carl Marks officiating, and burial in Smith cemetery, Beech Road, Orma.
SMITH, HILL
Hill Smith, 84, of Elba, Ohio, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 1996, at @Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, Ohio. He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late Floyd and Emma Moore Smith. He lived at Grantsville before moving to Elba in 1950. He was a farmer, worked in timber and operated a sawmil in Grantsville and Elba. He was employed at Clevite Corp., Caldwell, until his retirement. Surviving are two sons, David Smith of Elba and Gerald Smith of Macksburg; three daughters, Helen Stack of Elba, Jo Ann Cunningham of Marietta and Phyllis Mincks of Lowell; 20 grandchildren; 29 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clair Gainer, one son, Herman Smith; five brothers and sisters; and two grandchildren. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, with Rev. William Pickienpaugh officiating, #nd burial in Macksburg cemetery.
