HICKMAN, EDITH

Edith Hickman, 87, of Parkersburg, formerly of Grantsville, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Noble Co., Ohio, the daughter of the late Otis and Lottie Elliott McEndree. She was a homemaker. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Selmon of Parkersburg and Mary Lewis of Quenfell, Canada; five grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, S.R. Hickman, and one daughter. Private family services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, with Glen Dale McEndree officiating. Memorials may be made to Calhoun County Library or Wood County Senior Citizens.

HICKS, LUTHER

Luther "Jarrett" Hicks, 60, of Statesville, N.C., died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville, N.C. He was born in Oka, the son of the late Iras Basil and Cora Francis Rinehart Hicks. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Milo Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Bernice Ruth Bailey Hicks; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia "Jenny" and Jose "Tony" Richards of Beech Road; one son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Patricia Vaughan Hicks of Statesville; four grand-children, Mathiew, Eva and Beth Richards and Eric Hicks; five brothers, his twin Gene Hicks of Crown City, Ohio, and Carroll "Buck" Hicks, Edward Hicks, Forrest Hicks and Donnie Hicks, all of Chloe; and five sisters, Francis Waldron of Parkersburg, Gwen Simmons of Beech Road, Sue Sampson of Mineral Wells, Patricia Siers of Chloe and Margaret Lantz of Mt. Clair. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Parsons. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Carl Marks officiating. Burial was in Bailey cemetery.

HILEMAN, EMAGENE

Emagene Hileman, 73, of Canton, Ohio, died Monday, May 31, 1999, in Mercy Medical Center. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America. Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Thurman "Pinkie" Hileman; one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Cindy Hileman of Massillon, Ohio; one sister, Jackie Robinson of Grantsville; one brother and sister- in-law, Tom and Emily Gainer of Sand Ridge; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters. Services were held at Don Williams Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger Kurzen officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.

HOLBERT, DOROTHY

Dorothy V. Holbert, 76, of Sandyville, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at ElderCare of Ripley. She was born in Wirt County, the daughter of the late William Luther and Evaline Barton Wigal. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Charles Holbert; six sons, C. Rodney Holbert of Elizabeth, Francis Holbert, E. Leon Holbert. H. Wayne Holbert and James Holbert, all of Sandyville, and Ralph Holbert of Mineral Wells; four daughters, Bonnie Trickett of Sandyville, Ellen Lockhart and Barbara Hunt, both of Parkersburg, and Peggy Sims of LeRoy; two sisters, Sylvia Atkinson of Big Bend and Jo DeVaughn of Sandyville; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Charles Wigal, Lawrence Wigal, Harley Wigal, Arley Wigal, Glen Wigal and Elvin Wigal; and one sister, Ruby DeVaughn. Services were scheduled Tuesday, 2 p.m., at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Jerry Eaton and Rev. Paul Palmer officiating, and burial in Limestone cemetery, Rockport. Visitation was scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

SNIDER, LETHA

Letha Holpp Snider, 82, of Fairborn, Ohio, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at Day-Spring Health Care, Fairborn. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late John Wesley and Arzana Haught Holpp. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Garden Club in Jackson, Ohio. Surviving are two daughters, Janet Swaim and Norma Wevurski, both of Fairborn; one brother, Aves C. Holpp of Wilks-boro, N.C.; three sisters, Zelda Stafford of Dover, N.H., Barbara Skogen of Brevard, N.C., and Melvina Anderson of Vienna; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Snider, and one brother, John Holpp, Jr. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

HOSKINS, EDRA

Edra Hoskins, 91, died Sunday, Apr. 4, 1999, at her home in Edinburg, Ohio. She was born in Mt. Zion, the daughter of the late John and Maggie Wood Crawford, and had resided in Suffield, Ohio, for 55 years. Surviving are three sons, William of Akron, Marlin B. of Suffield and John of Ravenna; five daughters, Erlene Evans of Mogadore, Emma Lou Cruise, Patricia Mettle and Beverly Persons, all of Suffield, and Nancy Long of Clover, S.C.; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Don; and two sisters, Tressie and Bea. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Disco; one son, Harry; and one infant son, James. Services will be held Thursday, 10 a.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, Mogadore, Ohio, with Rev. G. Rod Taylor officiating, and burial in Restland cemetery, Brimfield, Ohio. Memorials suggested to Suffield or Mogadore paramedics or Portage County Hospice.

HUFFMAN, EDITH

Edith Barr Huffman, 71, of Sistersville, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, in Sistersville. She was retired from Wetzel County Hospital and affiliated with Congregational Church, Belpre, Ohio. Surviving are three cousins, Rose Starcher of Sistersville, George S. Smith of Calabash, N.C., and Hunter Huffman of Grantsville. Graveside services were held at Bethlehem cemetery, near Grantsville.

HUSK, DEWEY

Dewey N. Husk, 93, of Jane Lew, Lewis County, died Thursday, Apr. 8, 1999, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Isaac C. and Rebecca Carpenter Husk. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Church, Kinchelo, and was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife, Bessie Bower Husk; three daughters, Gertrude Welsh and Sharon Titus, both of Jane Lew, and Madeline Lamp of Weston; three sons, Charles Husk of Tempe, Ariz., Pete Husk of Parkersburg and Foster Husk of Richmond, Va.; and 28 grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Betts cemetery.

JAMES, CLAVEL

Clavel B. James, 88, of SunRise Rehabilitation Center, Glenville, died Friday, August 13, 1999, at the Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. He was born in Normantown, the son of the late Elder Charles L. and Laura Wilson James. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was retired from General Motors Corp., Elyria, Ohio, and was a former employee of Gilmer County Board of Education. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Alltop James of Glenville; one daughter, Janet Kay Bailey of Charleston; one sister, Monnie Curry of Normantown; and three grandsons, Brad Cumpston of Conway, S.C., and Aaron and Jared Cumpston, both of Doddridge County. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Cumpston; two infant children; four brothers; and one sister. Services were held at Lower Steer Run Baptist Church with Elder Mark Minney officiating. Burial was in James cemetery, near Normantown.

JAMES, JACKSON

Jackson C. James, 55, of Glenville, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at his home following a long illness. He was a native of Gilmer County and was a musician. Surviving is his mother, Eva Richards James. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Dallas Frederick officiating. Burial was in Meadow Lane cemetery, Glenville.

JAMES, VURBAL JUNE

Vurbal June Westbrook James, 67, of Davisville, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Stinson, the daughter of the late Dwight Metz and Cynthia Metz Ellis. Surviving are seven daughters, Linda Forshey, Beverly Wallace and Debbie Moore, all of Parkersburg, Penny Yost of Walker, Kathy Anderson of Tampa, Fla., and Sheilah Jackson and Julie Peters, both of Davisville; two sons, Tim Westbrook of Washington and Keven Westbrook of Davisville; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Opal Burroughs of Belmont and Janice Morris of Clay; two brothers, Paul Metz of St. Marys and Dale Metz of Greens Run; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddy Westbrook; second husband, Jim James; one sister, Erma Greathouse; and one brother, Vinyard Metz. Services were held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, with Pastor Richard Smith and Rev. Lee Hammond officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North cemetery.

JARVIS, DONALD

Donald Jarvis, 71, of Atwater, Ohio, died Friday, Apr. 9, 1999, at his home after a short illness. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Tollie and Mary Hicks Jarvis. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary Lynch Jarvis; three sons, Wayne Jarvis and Robert Jarvis of Akron, Ohio, and Kenneth Jarvis of Atwater; two daughters, Margie Murphy of Kent, Ohio, and Linda Hammel of Alliance, Ohio; three brothers, Virgil Jarvis of Reedy, Eddie Jarvis of Decatur, Ill., and Freddie Jarvis of Mt. Zion; four sisters, Marie Vanhorn of Grantsville, Geneva McKee of Plainview, Ill., Dorma Ewing of Minnora and Evelyn Etling of Barberton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Services were held at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Atwater. Burial was in Atwater cemetery.
