LYNCH, DARWIN "BUSTER"

Darwin "Buster" Lynch, 82, of Barberton, Ohio, formerly of Arnoldsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at Barberton Manor Care. He was born in Millstone, the son of the late Homer and Maude McCulty Lynch. He was a graduate of Calhoun County High School and was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army having served in the Pacific as an auto mechanic. He was retired from Stalwart Rubber Co., Bedford, Ohio, and was a Methodist. Surviving are three sisters, Nina Mendenhall, Helen Blanchfield and Leah Sturm, all of Barberton; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at Sand Ridge cemetery with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. There was no visitation.

LYNCH, ROBERT

Robert Lynch, 84, of Barberton, Ohio, formerly of Arnolds-burg, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at Pleasant View Healthcare Center, Barberton. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Homer and Maude McCulty Lynch. He was a 1935 graduate of Calhoun County High School where he played football. He spent four years in the South Pacific during World War II, and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, and World War II Medal. In 1945, he began working at Firestone Rubber Co., Akron, and retired after 28 years of service and returned to Arnoldsburg. He was a member and past president of Bear Fork Hunting Club and was involved in the Calhoun County Democratic Committee. Surviving are three sisters, Nina Mendenhall, Helen Blanchfield and Leah Sturm, all of Barberton; one brother, Darwin Lynch of Barberton; two nieces, Frances Downs of Pineville and Sharon Murphy of Williamstown; one nephew, Gregory Sturm of Barberton; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Robert Shannon officiating. Burial was in Sand Ridge cemetery.

MacDONALD, JOSHUA

Joshua Rodman John MacDonald, 19, of Mt. Zion, died suddenly Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born in Conestoga, Pa., the son of Kathy MacDonald of Mt. Zion and Rodd Shutt of Spencer. Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Etta Mac-Donald of Mt. Zion; aunt Pam and uncle Jim of Pennsylvania; uncle Chip of Florida; grandparents, Reg and Kate of New York; 52 cousins, aunts and uncles; and many friends and neighbors. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Glenn Dale McEndree officiating. Burial was at his home.

MARKS, REV. BLAINE

Rev. Blaine Marks, 84, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Louis Johnson Veterans Hospital, Clarksburg. He was born at Carbondale, Fayette County, the son of the late Morgan and Bertha Booher Marks. He was a retired United Methodist minister having served many charges in West Virginia. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II, having been awarded the Purple Heart for service in the South Pacific. He was a member of Eureka Lodge #40, AF&AM, Grantsville. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Greta Gainer Marks; two daughters, Lola and Jack Clark and Karen and Roland Boatright, all of Grantsville; one daughter-in-law, Jonalene Marks of Valley Fork; one sister, Velta Krafft of Richwood; five grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Gary R. Marks, five brothers, and two sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Brad McBee, Rev. Mike Worf and Rev. Donzel Wease officiating. Burial was in St. Paul cemetery, Grantsville. Masonic graveside rites were performed by Eureka Lodge #40.

MAY, MARY

Mary L. May, 94, of Gandeeville, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Miletree Health Care Center, Spencer. She was born in Oka, the daughter of the late Robert and Delilah Ellison Jarvis. She was a former Calhoun County elementary teacher and had worked in Akron, Ohio, in the rubber manufacturing industry for a number of years. Surviving are two sisters, Leverene Harper of Gandeeville and Maxie Ponn of Langsville, Ohio; and two brothers, Everett Jarvis of Grantsville and Leo Jarvis of Athens, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartley May; one brother, Walter Jarvis; and two sisters, Ruth Vida and Goldie Edwards. Graveside services will be held Thursday, 6 p.m., at Si Jarvis cemetery, Oka, with Rev. Clark Marks officiating. There will be no visitation. Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

MAZE, CLARENCE, JR.

Clarence Maze, Jr., 67, died in Petersburg, Va., on Saturday, Apr. 24, 1999. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of Nona Rose Maze and the late Clarence Maze, Sr. He held a bachelor's degree from Glenville State College, where he was honored as Alumnus of the Year in 1989, a master's from West Virginia University, and a doctorate from Indiana University. He served on the faculty and as dean of academic affairs at GSC, directed a business teacher education program through Ohio University in Nigeria, West Africa, and held a full professorship in the College of Education and the College of Business Administration at University of Tennessee before assuming the presidency of Richard Bland College, a branch of the College of William and Mary, which he held for 21 years before retiring in 1996. While president, he initiated and promoted the program in international education, was credited with increasing minority enrollment, promoting the professional development of the faculty and staff, and developing the college as a cultural center for Southside Virginia. He was a leader in civic and cultural affairs in Southside Virginia through such agencies as United Way, Red Cross, Community Concert Association, Petersburg Rotary Club, Association for Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Petersburg Art League, Fort Lee Advisory Committee, and Tourism Board. He was a member of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, where he served as vestryman, senior warden and lay reader, and was also on the executive board of the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Marlene Dotson Maze; two sons, Thomas and John; three sisters, Betty Krugman of West Virginia and Karen Richard and Connie Lahman of South Carolina; and one brother, Roger Maze of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy Dotson Maze, and one brother, Blaine Maze. Services were held at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. David Teschner officiating. Burial was in Memorial Garden at the church. Memorials may be made to Richard Bland College Foundation, 11301 Johnson Rd., Petersburg, VA 23805, Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 S. Sycamore St., Petersburg, VA 23805, or American Cancer Society.

McCOY, OTA CAROLYNE

Ota Carolyne McCoy, 56, of Ravenswood, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Victor and Alta Gainer. She was a homemaker and housewife. Survivors include her husband, Joe L. McCoy of Ravenswood; two daughters, Lisa Rowell of Beaufort, S.C. and Janet Belcher of Ravenswood; one son, Edward Anthony McCoy of Parkersburg; five sisters, Reva Owens of Petersburg, Lenore Warner of Elkins, Mary Kelley of Grantsville, Sue Richards of Cleveland and Phyliss Hathaway of Lost Creek; five brothers, Dale Gainer of Tennessee, Garrett Gainer of Grantsville, Ronzel Gainer of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Wendell Gainer of Canton and Darrell Gainer of Cleveland; four granddaughters; one grandson; and 39 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Geneva Protroski; and one son, Joe L. McCoy, Jr. Services were held at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, with Rev. Donald Balis officiating. Burial in Ravenswood cemetery.

McCUMBERS, BONNIE

Bonnie A. McCumbers, 71, of Nicut, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at her home following a long illness. She was born at Elmira, Braxton County, the daughter of the late Fred and Jane Elizabeth Cottrill White. She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, Nicut, and was a retired service personnel of Calhoun County Schools with 20 years service. Surviving are her husband, Charley McCumbers; one daugh-ter, Barbara Jane Wilson of Big Springs; one son, Jackie Lee McCumbers of Nicut; one sister, Dona Vaughan of Front Royal, Va.; and six grandchildren, Walter and Warren Wilson, and Russell, Josua, Charles and Rebecca McCumbers. Services were held at Beech Grove Baptist Church with Elder Charles Fisher and Elder Richard Westfall officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

McCUMBERS, EDITH

Edith Dawn McCumbers, 55, of Streetsboro, Ohio, formerly of Frozen, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Frances and Ina Minney Cottrell. Surviving are her husband, Tony McCumbers; one son, Martin McCumbers of Streetsboro; one brother, Vane Cottrell of Windom, Ohio; and two sisters, Neva Sears of Mount Run and Lela Cottrell of Ripley. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home with Elder Charles Fisher officiating. Burial was in Frozen Run cemetery.

McCUMBERS, WARREN

Warren McCumbers, 66, of Parkersburg, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg. He was born in Clay County, the son of the late Job and Ona Dlckey McCumbers. Surviving are two aunts, Tressie McCoy of Nicut and Mable King of Orma. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating. Burial was in Nebo Baptist Church cemetery.

McCUMBERS, WILLARD

Willard McCumbers, 63, of Arnoldsburg, died Thursday, Mar. 25, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Jesse James and Catherine Marks McCumbers. Surviving are his wife, Linda McCumbers; one son, Dennis Lee McCumbers of Grantsville; three daughters, Catherine Helmick of Nicut, Sharon Sue Rogers of Shock and Audrie McCumbers of Arnoldsburg; and one sister, Myral Taylor of Orrville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jesse James Mc-Cumbers and Eugene Stephen McCumbers. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Carl Marks officiating. Burial was in Mt. Run cemetery, Nicut.

McCUNE, BETTY

Betty McCune, 73, of Grafton, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at Southwest General Health Center, Middleburg Heights, Ohio. She was born in Stumptown, the daughter of the late Alva and Delphia Harris. She lived in Cleveland for 34 years before moving to Grafton in 1989. She retired from Kenny King's Restaurant, Cleveland, in 1986. She was a member of Christian Unity Church, North Eaton, Ohio, and former member of Harris Gospel Singers and Faith Freewill Baptist Church, Cleveland. Surviving are her husband, Roscoe McCune; two sons, Clem Lee Schoolcraft of Cleveland and Mark Schoolcraft of Brunswick, Ohio; one daughter, Dianna Hilaszek of Grafton; four grand-children; three brothers, Clarence Harris of Stumptown and Alva Harris and Sam Harris, both of Grafton; six sisters, Jean Lyons of Brunswick, Minnie Stalnaker of LaGrange, Ohio, Nellie Settle of Petroleum, Sue Morton of Harrisville and Lyda Harris and Lou Miller, both of Stumptown. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Oran Schoolcraft, in 1984; one sister, Wanda Harris; and one brother, Kenneth "Mike" Harris. Services were held at David Bogner Family Funeral Home, North Ridgeville, Ohio, with Rev. Denver Daniel officiating. Burial was in Brooklyn Heights cemetery, Cleveland.
